NBC’s “Law and Order” putting conservative media on trial?

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 9, 2009 01:22 PM

Reader Alex e-mails: “During the finale of ‘The Biggest Loser’ last night, NBC aired a promo spot for an episode of Law and Order where a conservative talk show host is put on trial for murder based on creating a ‘climate of hate.’ I know you’ve covered this aspect of the census worker story…”

Indeed. I’ve written extensively on how the Left convicted prominent conservatives of the Kentucky census worker “murder” — which turned out to be a suicide and botched insurance hoax.

Now, it appears NBC’s “Law and Order” is going to use the case for its on infotainment purposes — right down to the “FED” in ink scrawled on a dead body. Yep, this grim case and the criminalization of conservatism that it prompted will now be Hollywood fodder.

I certainly hope unhinged hanging judge Andrew Sullivan was not a script consultant.

Here’s one of the promos for the show posted on the “Law and Order” website:

Unfortunately, the History Channel is getting weirder and weirder, and the Discovery Channel is garbage now.

I used to watch VH1 back in the ’80s and early ’90s when they actually played music videos all day and night. Unfortunately, they are dominated by Reality shows now and asinine Hip-Hop music.

Fortunately, with about 160 channels I can always find leftover Benny Hill or Twilight Zone re-runs.

I’m also going to point out that I have long found Darkwing Duck refreshingly free of claims that robbery is justified. (We also have a positive portrayal of adoption, which is nice.) Disney does not seem to participate in Hulu, but Darkwing Duck DVDs are out. We may have a children’s show safe for children and entertaining for adults at the same time here.

The movie Serenity and the series it was based on, Firefly, are also very good, and feature Adam Baldwin. However, I am only recommending that series and movie for adults, maybe 17 plus. I’m probably highballing the age a little, but for goodness’ sake don’t show it to a young kid.

The A-Team, featuring Dwight Schultz, had a whole cast of sympathetic/heroic Viet Nam vets and is available on Hulu. (Some eps did have a certain amount of “whoever was writing the show,” but the A-Team were the heroes, and shown to be particularly sympathetic to vet one-shot characters.)

On Babylon 5, too far into the future for anyone today to still be around, Sinclair, Sheridan, and Garbibaldi, all main characters, were vets of the Earth-Minbari war and treated sympathetically. One-shot vets of the same war were treated sympathetically. That war does not appear to have been controversial, but it could still be a break for some from the “all military is evil” bit. Earthforce doesn’t come off as being today’s military, but, unlike Star Trek, nobody is attempting to claim the outfit is not military. Words like “soldier” and “military” are actually used.

Do I even have to go into how sympathetic the series Major Dad was to the military, including Viet Nam vets?

I’m going on like this in case people are looking for less noxious alternatives to the series being complained about.

I’m afraid it will take another terrorist attack or a revolution to turn things around.

I personally would like to see the middle and southern states all secede from the union. Now, those of you on the coasts are welcome to come here. But we need to form a union of patriot states that follow the founders and the constitution. The progressives think we are only good for flying over anyway. So they won’t miss us, right? And we can elect our own President, one who follows conservative principles and fiscal responsibility, small government, you know, the opposite of liberalism. The only problem will be that the libs will want to sneak across our borders to a better life once they destroy their own states. Then again, we will probably be able to build a border fence quite quickly, as we will have great motivation.

TV “programming” pretty much sucks these days. I haven’t watched NBC shows for years and the one time I did watch NBC was to catch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The rest of what NBC touts as “programming” can go hang as far as I’m concerned.

And it’s not just NBC. Ever notice that political/PC/sexual overtones color everthing that’s on TV? Anybody watch Dollhouse on Fox? It’s an interesting show but last season pushed my buttons when Echo, the main character, remarks how things are “different” now that we have a black president. I’m a borderline fan of the sci-fi show to begin with but that was over-the-line.

CBS and ABC have very little to contribute in terms of really good shows anymore. How I Met Your Mother, with it’s constant Barney obsession with banging chicks and past references to marijuana use isn’t amusing. It’s directed to the Gen Y’ers and even the Gen X’ers like myself but they’re just beating a dent drum . It’s a show on the bubble of cancellation. Then there is a show like Big Bang Theory that is more original, funny, and has more chemistry than shows like How I Met Your Mother or Two and a Half Men and still interest/challenge the viewer with new plot and characer interactions than you get from the other two shows. Yes, I’m a “big” Big Bang Theory fan.

Then there are shows like American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance that should be about talent but instead become putrid love fests for politics or the latest cause de jeur. Who needs that? It’s just back door indoctrination that uses promising talent to deliver a PC, politically acceptable message.

The networks, and I mean all of them, have changed. Most of the time, except for occasions when I watch shows I can still stomach, I watch cable. I never used to be enthralled with science until after college and I got to learn at my own pace (which you don’t get in a public school setting). I’ve learned so much about the world, and still feel entertained by that education, just by watching Animal Planet, History Channel/International History Channel (when they’re not going on and on about UFO’s, Nostradamus, Life After People, etc), Nat Geo, and the Sci Channel. Most of what’s offered on tv these days is drivel.

You’re better off watching an old movie on AMC or TMC to see what class and values used to look like before our society became cheapened by the infotainment era. It’s pretty sad.

In the end, the white woman was arrested for keeping the illegal immigrant in bondage – and the illegal immigrant was found a place to live and given an education. My guess is that the real motivation was actually the white woman dissed the CSI agents.

It is getting tough to find any television that isn’t trying to make some type of politically correct point now that we have the obamanator in charge.

I stopped watching Law and Order some years ago. As a native New Yorker I understand that Rikers Island is not filled with White Christians from the South yet it seems Law and Order thinks so. Even the Bernie Madoff episode failed to mention once that Madoff and most of his victims were Jewish. Imagine if they were Catholics?

Yes. I stopped watching after an episode about a test lab bombing, wherein the show moralized about abortion – as in, don’t criticize people who abort their child because of prenatal testing (even when the tests are WRONG), but we must do everything in our power to prevent people from aborting children who test positive for the “gay gene”. And, of course, one of the first suspects was an abortion opponent and radical Christian.

So basically, the Kentucky census worker case didn’t work out the way liberals wanted it to, so they had to MAKE it fit their world view on tv. Classic.

There is always some twist to Law and Order cases. It will not end up being a conservative that murdered the federal employee. The set up and ads are just a way to get more people talking about the show.

That being said, the series is written by loony-toon leftists. They will get their shots in on the talk show host. He’ll probably be shown to be a phony blowhard or something.

The reason I watch LO SVU is I have a little crush on Jayne Mansfeild’s daughter, Mariska Hargitay.

Precisely. As Ann Coulter has said, far-leftists like to create works of fiction such as TV shows and movies because they can create a world that actually is what they believe it to be.

Anyone else see the episode about the beautiful blonde conservative commentator who was shot at during a speech? (Speaking of AC). There actually was an interesting exchange between the Ann Coulter-like character and Fred Thompson about their different approaches to expressing and promoting the conservative point of view, also, at one point, after the Israel/Palestine issue came up, a Jewish college student told the detectives, “It’s funny, the Christians here care more about Israel than most of the Jews”, or something to that effect.

That being said, I’ve lost interest in L&O since their episode about prosecuting Bush and/or members of his administration; I’m just too sick of hearing them (Bush and Cheney in particular) being called “criminals” and accused of “war crimes” for doing what they believed they had to do in the wake of 9-11. My father, who believes they may have stepped over the line as far as interrogation techniques, also believes that they acted out of what they felt was necessity.

I missed that L&O episode, but I caught the SVU one last night.

It was an outright slur against Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin et al….

The bad guy was an ex coast guard, dishonorably discharged who watched the conservative talk show host because he couldn’t find a job.

He kills three kids who are anchor babies because he has become convinced that “immigrants” are a danger to this country after hearing that line over and over from the talk show host.

In the beginning it was obvious who they were accusing all talk show hosts of hate speech and inciting violence.

At the end they just come right out and say it. The bad guy claims that the talk show host is a “great American” and the John Larroquette character actually names Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity when talking about how good people can get swept up into doing evil.

They are gunning for us make no mistake. It is important to not laugh off as liberal blather these shows that millions watch.

I haven’t watched L&O and its offspring since…ever but it’s been a long-running joke that wherever there’s a crime, the white male Christian conservative did it.

If the left really believed that it could strip those who disagreed with its agenda of their property and their liberties and get away with it right now, it would do so in a heartbeat.

I was wonder if anyone else who’s watched this tripe of a crime series ever noticed:

Ever since the beginning of the series, almost 98 percent of the stories in L&O seem to revolve around murders, rapes, and child abuse. Hardly any of the plots seem to have much to do with muggings, kidnappings, robberies, aggravated assaults, or even carjackings, if at all. Or, more to the point, almost none of them seem to feature plots that don’t involve murder and rape.

For all it’s worth, is this really that great a series if it’s going to make its focus that narrow? Most other TV crime series of the 60s, 70s and 80s usually had a wider focus than that. In L&O, the writers seem to be pretty bankrupt if they can’t come up with anything simpler than murders and rapes.

What then was ever so great about L&O?

I watched the show and accept that it was ripped from the headlines and artistic license is used.

What was most compelling was that the left wing lawyer played by John Laroquette ended up recognizing his mistake and took a life. That was far more damaging than how the right wing was portrayed.

It showed the duplicity of the left wing.

Don’t know if you will see this but had to respond.

Please, John’s character killing the deranged right wing nutjob was not more damaging to the left wing. What planet do you live on? Most liberals and dupes watching that were probably cheering that he killed him. It was justified.

The inference underlying the whole episode was meant to undercut the whole array of conservative commentators and that was all it was meant to do. If you can’t see that, then you are blinded by ideology.
