Lockerbie bomber: Lost and found
He was supposed to be near death…four months ago.
Yesterday, he “disappeared” from his home and hospital, via the Times of London:
Mystery surrounded the Lockerbie bomber last night after he could not be reached at his home or in hospital.
Libyan officials could say nothing about the whereabouts of Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi, and his Scottish monitors could not contact him by telephone. They will try again to speak to him today but if they fail to reach him, the Scottish government could face a new crisis.
Under the terms of his release from jail, the bomber cannot change his address or leave Tripoli, and must keep in regular communication with East Renfrewshire Council.
Politicians on both sides of the Atlantic and relatives of the 270 people who died in the 1988 bombing expressed anger about al-Megrahi’s disappearance. Richard Baker, Labour’s justice spokesman in the Scottish Parliament, said the whole affair was turning into a shambles and putting Scotland’s reputation at risk. “This flags up just how ludicrous it is that East Renfrewshire Council, a local council thousands of miles away from Libya, is responsible for supervising al-Megrahi’s conditions of licence,” he said.
Eliot Engel, a New York congressman, said: “I think it was a tremendous mistake to let him out in the first place. I don’t think a convicted terrorist has any integrity to abide by any type of agreement.”
Today, they “found” him:
The Scottish authorities charged with supervising the Lockerbie bomber said they had contacted him in Tripoli on Wednesday, following concerns about his whereabouts.
Under the terms of his release from a Scottish jail on compassionate grounds in August, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi cannot leave Tripoli or change his address and must keep in regular contact with East Renfrewshire Council.
They were unable to contact the Libyan on Tuesday, while The Times newspaper could not track him down at either his house or the hospital where the terminal prostate cancer sufferer has had treatment.
“We have now spoken to Mr Megrahi, who is in his house. There is no cause for alarm, he is in his house,” said a spokesman for East Renfrewshire Council in western Scotland.
“He wasn’t able to speak to us yesterday but he was able to do so today. We have spoken to him and we don’t have any concerns. He is definitely at home in Tripoli.”
The council’s next scheduled call-in to Megrahi is next Tuesday.
Anyone else find this phone tag game with a murderous jihadists completely insane?

Monitoring convicted terrorists (sorry, “alleged man-caused disaster initiators”) on the honor system — What could possibly go wrong?
Perhaps we could put KSM up in a small flat in NYC with an ankle bracelet?
<blockquote“We have now spoken to Mr Megrahi, who is

… when they will again activate the call forwarding.
There was a time when the Scots knew how to treat invaders.
We should take a page out of his play book, and strap a bomb to him. If he leaves his house, he explodes. At least it will take care of his cancer; that is if he really has it.
Under the terms of his release from a Scottish jail on compassionate grounds in August, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi cannot leave Tripoli or change his address and must keep in regular contact with East Renfrewshire Council.
So a man who slaughters men, women and children with no qualms whatsoever will actually abide by the terms of his release?
‘Scots, wha hæ wi’ Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome tæ yer gory bed,
Or tæ Victorie!
‘Now’s the day, and now’s the hour:
See the front o’ battle lour,
See approach proud Edward’s power -
Chains and Slaverie!
‘Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha will fill a coward’s grave?
Wha sæ base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!
‘Wha, for Scotland’s king and law,
Freedom’s sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stand, or Freeman fa’,
Let him on wi’ me!
‘By Oppression’s woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!
‘Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty’s in every blow! -
Let us do or dee!’

Eh … strap him to the back of a Tomahawk missile and send it through Ahmagaynutjob’s living room window.

Not a problem. Spec Ops can find him…
Is that before or after he blows up his next target?
RedDog, Who’s house would you like that target to be?
Or what – the soft pillows?
Spaceycakes #8: I have never read Burns, & I can see that is an unforgivable error on my part. Those words are so inspiring, I was getting chills just reading them. If only all Americans would read them & act with courage & conviction to preserve America, as those Scots were willing to do so long ago. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t you read the poems on the back of the Haggis box during breakfast?
Haggis & a Guiness. Now that’s a breakfast that will stick to your ribs.
Nothing to worry about he was just out at the US conulates office getting his student Visa for the US…..
It sounds like a Monty Python sketch. “Ah, yes. Good! He’s definitely at home. And by ‘home’ I’m, of course, referring to the general vicinity of his domicile. He’s definitely there. His whereabouts are almost entirely known. And by ‘entirely known’, we mean ‘have a good idea’. Carry on!”
No True Scotsman would have released a known terrorist in the first place.
Sure they would have…..right over the middle of the Atlantic.
That’s true, John Deaux. I have kept up with the news out of Scotland? It’s an embarrassment the way the society has changed, like England.
In DC as part of the Obama administration?
This is what happens when the socialist left put their trust in Allah.
…this just in…. When asked where he disappeared to yesterday, al-Megrahi answered, “Oh, just strolling down to the airport – I like planes, you see.”. Frequent calls to al-Megrahi’s phone were greeted with the message, “Hi – you’ve reached al. I can’t come to the phone right now, but I’m home cuz I’m seriously ill! Seriously – I’m home!”.
No, I find it quite in line in dealing with this sort. So the lad decides to skip-what are the Brits going to do-send a Man-o-War to Tripoli? The Brits sold their soul for oil deals and can dance to Tripoli’s tune. And what will Barack Hussein Obama do? He will congratulate the Colonel for a game well played.
Eric Holder can send a Letter of Concern and give the Libyans a good laugh. Most of the victims were Typical White People-maybe Little Eichmannns- so it really does not matter.

Haggis & a Guiness for all!
I’d trade all my Golly-tokens for a pint o’ Guinny, but I’m still at work.
In a sniper ‘scope, I hope.

They found him at home? Darn, I was hoping he would turn up in the morgue.
Only months to live? My grandmother was told she only had months to live due to a heart problem. Her doctor even warned her not to go through with her wedding plans. Eleven children and 72 years later the doctor turned out to be right. She only lived another 864 months after his diagnosis, but the doctor was no longer around to take credit for it.
For every day he is MIA, there should be a sortie of F-111′s dropping some bombs on various government buildings in Tripoli. The F-111′s are for “Old Times Sake”.
They shouldn’t have released him in the first place, although technically speaking going from the hospital to home isn’t a “change of address.”
So if he’s to be believed in his claim that he really is playing Domesticus — his say-so seems good enough for the Scots — there’s no point getting upset at him for breach of contract.
Aardvarks? You’re dating yourself, man. Are there any of those lying around at Davis-Monthan, in between the F-4s and the A-7s?
They’re still there. They can still do things that no other aircraft can do. A favorite memory is looking down at an F-111 running on TFR from my tank cupola in Germany with a condensation shockwave around it.

Those cruel Scots are making life so hard on the people at The Onion. How can you come up with parodies when they’re pulling this stuff?
Maybe the Scots ought to do something about this on “compassionate grounds”.
I hear he had been out camping with his kids. They were making s’mores somewhere out in the woods and he lost track of time.
Next time they can’t find him, I hope it is because he has finally arrived in hell.
what, no housecalls from the chickens**t scottish authorities to see just how sick this (_*_) is now that he’s back in the land of sheep “herders”.
Saw one land at Hickam this year. Oz may still be flying them.
Not to stray too far OT, but our Australian friends are the only ones still flying the Aaardvark. We retired the last of ours in 1998.

That wasn’t an F-111, it was a Fokker Dr.1…
Maybe he was out shopping for stuff, you know, it’s not like you can just order a bunch of bombs through the interwebnets.

HI ELM CREEK SMITH–#30. Long ago I was in an instrumentation van at White Sends Missile Range when an F-111 made full speed low altitude runs on our Hawk site. Our entry door was open so we could watch the runs from our recording equipment racks.
***
On the first pass we could see the dust kicking up behind the plane where the shock wave was hitting the desert. Total silence as it streaked towards us at probably Mach 2. The shock wave rocked our van over to one side–desk drawers flew out, equipment hit the floor, and the water bottle fell out of the cooler. Then the van rocked the other way and we fell down. The shock wave tripped the circuit breakers on our radar since the G.I.’s had left the side door open so they could check for faults.
***
On pass 2 everything was “buttoned up” and the missile system operated properly. The boom was still impressive–with the van door closed.
***
Pass 3 was aborted before the plane got close due to the very high fuel consumption during “on the deck” full speed runs. The aircraft “bingoed”, climbed, slowed down, and flew home.
***
I still remember these tests when we go by the Tucson, Az. Kolb Road “boneyard”–there are a lot of what look like flyable F-111′s mothballed there. A truly impressive aircraft.

As I said months ago, there is no reason to think that he would be dead anytime soon. Although, it would be appropriate that on compassionate grounds he should be executed. It’s strange that there is no compassion for his victims.
Where are Conner and Duncan MacLeod when you need them…
Idiot Europeans. There will come a day when they need someone to bail them out of another national crisis, much like WWII. Will anyone help?
What’s the Arabic word for “suckers?”
I bet Megrahi is living it up on the beach with a bunch of belly-dancing babes, smoking a hookah, and laughing at the Euroweenies who bought his fatal cancer story.
