Demcare and the race hustlers: It’s not just about ACORN
The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack reports tonight that Illinois Democrat Sen. Roland Burris is claiming credit for inserting a provision that may benefit ACORN.
But it’s not just the ACORN angle that’s scandalous.
It’s the race hustler shakedown.
Why, oh, why do we need to be funding massive new federal bureaucracies to create separate “Offices of Minority Health” in six separate health care agencies:
The provision [Burris] cites, found on pages 240 through 248 of the manager’s amendment, requires that six different agencies each establish an “Office of Minority Health.” The agencies are the “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.”
According to page 241 of the amendment:
In carrying out this subsection, the Secretary, acting through the Deputy Assistant Secretary, shall award grants, contracts, enter into memoranda of understanding, cooperative, interagency, intra-agency and other agreements with public and nonprofit private entities, agencies, as well as Departmental and Cabinet agencies and organizations, and with organizations that are indigenous human resource providers in communities of color to assure improved health status of racial and ethnic minorities, and shall develop measures to evaluate the effectiveness of activities aimed at reducing health disparities and supporting the local community. Such measures shall evaluate community outreach activities, language services, workforce cultural competence, and other areas as determined by the Secretary.’’
According to a Senate legislative aide, the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now could qualify for grants under this provision. ACORN would also qualify for funding on page 150 of the underlying Reid bill, which says that “community and consumer-focused nonprofit groups” may receive grants to “conduct public education activities to raise awareness of the availability of qualified health plans.”
As I pointed out in July, there are more race-based fiefdoms created by the Demcare architects:
New bureaucracies always have old special interests to appease. The Bureau of Health Information will house its own “Office of Civil Rights” and “Office of Minority Health.” The information czar will be required to collect health statistics in the “primary language” of ethnic minorities – and thus, the need for a new “language demonstration program” to showcase their efforts. Obamacare will also ensure “cultural and linguistics competence training” and establish “a youth public health program to expose and recruit high school students into public health careers.” The government health care juggernaut must be fed and staffed, after all.

I think America is finished. We will never overcome this onslaught. The dumbing down of students at all levels has left us generations who cannot think.

“Offices of Minority Health.” It almost takes you back to the bad old days of the Democrat separate, but equal policies of the old South. The party of slavery just can’t stand to have any of their welfare dependents run off the plantation.
I’m beginning to feel apathetic to both parties. Why? McCain was on Mike and Mike in the morning on ESPN 2 this morning, and while I didn’t catch the beginning of the interview at the end he was promoting a book about boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. He said it was a wonderful, great book, but then at the end of the conversation he admitted he himself had not read it, but it was getting great reviews.
I am just about to put thevinced that both parties are lazy, and not willing to put in the real hard work for the country.

It sounds to me like Sen Burris is trying to say that the clinics that serve “white people” are not good enough for the “minority people”. Should there not be a legal challenge based on the fact that the Supreme Court has already struck down seperate but equal?
Senator Burris may have a point there. ObamaCare will not do as it suggests it will do. Burris is telling us that his side of the skin will need real healthcare when the beast takes over 1/6 of the economy.
How about:

The Constitution does not provide for the public purse to be used as a cookie jar for this kind of nonsense much less for racist criminals like Burris and the CBC extortionists. Enough is enough. If the corrupt Fed bureaucracy won’t prosecute then the states need to bypass the Feds and take action themselves.

remember when the industrial age was decimating the farming economy and the song was “how you going to keep them down on the farm once they’ve seen the city.” that same question is now “how you going to keep them in business in the u.s. once they’ve seen the world.” these (_*_) politicians can pass any laws they want, pass any taxes they desire, and hope the change won’t drive the economy into permanent 3rd world status. employment taxes pay about 60% of gubmint budget, but a permanent 10% unemployment ala europe will put a hole in that. business taxes pay about 40% of gubmint largess, and a falloff of 20% of that could not just cripple, but kill the economy. it’s one thing to pass great society packages like universal healthcare, retirement guaranties, and free education for all, right up until you have to pay for that. ask anyone who has tried, the “need” always exceeds the “have”

The claim that ACORN and its associated-splinter groups were in line to receive 5 billion dollars of stimulus was never legitimately disproved.
And as someone who has co-written a number educational grant applications, I assure you that some apps are placed on the fast-track for approval based on the agency/org and its PERCEIVED reputation for providing a valued community service.
There are other factors at play then weighing the demonstrated need of competing agencies is the only criteria in determining grant approvals.

I imagine this is a stupid question, but has the notion of grants from the government ever been challenged? What is the basis of non-government organizations handling government funds?
It’s all good. The bigger and more complex this government structure of federal bureaucracies get, the more epic the ultimate failure.

IF this is such a great bill as Obama, Pelosi and Reid would have people believe, why are there exemptions?
First off, of course, are the members of Congress – exempt. Other government officials and Federal employees – exempt. State of Nebraska’s Medicare, by virtue of the haggling Senator Nelson did, – exempt. There are others.
Who knows what else?
