Rallying against Gitmo North

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 23, 2009 11:22 AM

When no one else will fight for your national security, you have to D-I-Y.

Do it yourself.

Defend Our Defenders continues to step up to the plate. Here’s the latest on the citizen backlash against the Obama administration’s Gitmo North plans at Thomson Correctional Facility.

And details of a potential lawsuit:

GITMO LAWSUIT COULD BLOCK THOMSON PRISON TRANSFER TO FEDS

GOP Comptroller candidate Kelly’s Attorney Planning to File Class Action Suit for Public Endangerment

(STERLING, IL) – This afternoon, protesters from Band of Mothers and Illinois Tea Party gathered in Sterling, IL to protest the move to transfer the Gitmo detainees to Thomson Prison. Among them was William J. Kelly, the GOP candidate for comptroller. Kelly is planning to file a lawsuit to block the transfer of the Thomson prison site to the federal government to house the Gitmo detainees. Kelly’s attorney, Greg Johnson, is exploring the merits of a class action suit on the grounds of public endangerment to prevent the prisoner transfer. “The public risks associated with the continued detention of war prisoners should not be forced upon the citizens of Illinois without sufficient public input and acceptance,” said Johnson.

Kelly, who deeply opposed the plan had this to say: “They say this is about jobs. This is not about jobs. The State of Illinois is better off cutting taxes so that businesses can actually stay in Illinois and create real jobs. Only bankrupt tax and spend politicians would view Al-Qaeda as a jobs program.”

“I thought the reason we fought the war in Iraq was to keep Al-Qaeda in Iraq and in their caves and not on our soil. This move by President Obama represents one of the greatest threats to homeland security in the history of the United States of America,” continued Kelly.

Kelly will be speaking about this potential suit in his statement at Gov. Quinn’s public hearing today at Sterling High School in Illinois. It is the only public hearing on the plan.

More information will be forthcoming. If you need to get in touch with him for comment, please contact Laura Grock at (312) 943-1106.

For information, visit www.friendsofwilliamjkelly.com.

Kelly is running on a platform to be Illinois’ first activist comptroller. He is the former executive director of the National Taxpayers Union and was recently profiled by the Washington Times. He ran in 1994 against Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) and exposed the congressman’s more than $50,000 in back taxes, child support, and parking tickets. Kelly is a successful entreprenuer with an Emmy award-winning TV production company and currently produces and hosts the multi-state sports show, “Sportsaholic.”

Not to quibble with someone who appears to be fighting the good fight, but the much greater threat to our security and sovereignty is the wide open borders letting any and all in without even checking for syphillus.

The people of Illinois should stop worrying-Obama will protect them by reaching out to the jihadists and asking them to not make a big deal out of this. He is a citizen of the world after all. That there is an Illinois Tea Party is a hopeful sign. If only Illinois could overcome Chicago and the Lake Counties corruptocrats they might have a decent state.

That citizens need the state’s permission to own a firearm says little good about Illinois.

When discussing the directive to purchase and outfit the prison in western Illinois, I heard Robert Gibbs say some nonsense about this decision to move those at Gitmo will not affect their legal status.

So, if that’s the case Mr Gibbs, why move them?

They are in a purpose built facility that already suits the needs of prisoners and military. The facility is in perhaps the best location in the world for such a prison. If the prisoners manage to escape the detention facility, where are they going to go? If they manage the not insignificant miracle of escaping the prison, they are in the middle of a US Navy base full of sailors and Marines, not to mention the soldiers at the detention facility itself. Where exactly can they go?

The prison facility at Gitmo is purpose built to house the scum of the earth. It’s already paid for and has been in operation for years. But Mr Gibbs, you would have us believe its perfectly reasonable to buy an older prison facility in Illinois to house those that want to destroy this nation? Then pay to retrofit that prison to make it suitable to the kind of prisoners you plan on housing there?

And all this supposedly comes with no change in the legal status of the prisoners? So, again, why move them in the first place?

Don’t waste your time trying to convince them with facts. They are on a mission to protect Comrade Obama’s (PBUH) stupid promise to close GITMO and end the cause of the Jihadi’s attacks on our innocent civilians. A little “collateral damage” is acceptable to them. Stupid is as stupid does.

A BESLAN style attack on an Illinois school–with a simultaneous attack on the Jihadi prison–may be coming. There is a big Islamic “fifth column” building up in the U.S.A. now. I pray this never happens–but this is how our enemy thinks.

It was an interesting day in Sterling on Tuesday. Nice to see a large number of average, hard-working folks show up to the hearing to voice their concerns. Exactly the ‘dog and pony show’ that every clear thinking person around here was expecting.

Do that once a week, anywhere, and they would have us all running around like Keystone Cops. And they don’t need Gitmo North as a pretext. These cretins are inbred throwbacks capable of anything. As far as an attack, I don’t personally think it’s any more likely than at Gitmo. By and large, these “sleeper cells” aren’t the best and the brightest. They’ll either show their hand prematurely or be taken out quickly should they try an escape. It’s the Fort Hood style jihadist that worries me. It requires little intelligence, causes too much damage and is difficult to defend against.

    Speaking of 72 virgins…………..

I notice that the number of suicide bombings have dropped dramatically since Susan Boyle has put out her CD.

Maybe they think that virgins aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be.

Just listen to her CD the same way you

California is even more differnet than most as it is basically 2 states in the first place and could easily be turned into North and South California. I lived in San Jose for 12 years and my wife lived in Santa Cruz (how she ended up being a Conservative still boggles my mind).

I attended UCSC (affectionately known as Uncle Charlie’s Summer Camp) between 1973 and 1976. If anything, associating with those radical leftists made me the conservative that I am today. I eventually transferred schools and graduated with my bachelor’s degree elsewhere, but one notable UCSC graduate who is conservative is Victor Davis Hanson.

Back on topic: when the Thomson prison was built, it likely went through public hearings and an environmental clearance. My guess is that what was originally anticipated for that prison was not the housing of Gitmo detainees; I would wonder if there would be potential legal challenges for violation of whatever environmental finding was made.

Illinois has such a great record on keeping normal felons in jail. Like this time. Can’t wait to see what hardened and trained terrorists do. Especially right by a nuclear power plant. Oh, and all those jobs for Illinois residents people like Durbin were bragging about? 99% will probably go to out-of-state federal employees and Iowa residents.
