Nanny State Gone Wild: Defining dependency up
My column today builds on this post about the slacker mandate in Demcare — and examines how the chief architects of the government health care are openly achieving single-payer-by-proxy. Listen to the final self-congratulatory paeans to “health care as a right” this morning and you’ll understand exactly what I’m talking about and exactly what they are achieving.

Nanny State Gone Wild: Defining dependency up

The greatest gifts you can give your children can’t be boxed and bowed. Consider the timeless gift of self-sufficiency – a stubborn thirst to leave the nest, make it own your own, and live as a free-willed adult. It’s a concept that Big Nanny Democrats are sabotaging at every legislative turn.
Several times during the sneaky weekend debate on the government health care takeover bill this past Sunday, Democrats hailed a provision requiring insurance plans that cover dependents to provide benefits to children up to age 26. Democrat Sens. Ben Cardin and Tom Harkin both specifically championed the unfunded mandate in their floor statements.
This manifestation of the Nanny State is especially galling given the massive levels of generational theft that the Democrat majority has presided over the last year. If they truly cared about the physical and financial well-being of young Americans, they’d stop piling on expensive regulations that simply put affordable health insurance out of their reach. I propose a new symbol for the Democrats. Out: Donkey. In: A giant adult pacifier.
I can tell you what most fiscally responsible parents are thinking when they hear the feds “taking care” of everyone else’s adult “children” for them by confiscating their tax dollars and forcing private companies to comply: You’ve got to be kidding me. Yes, Virginia, there are still some of us left who believe our children shouldn’t depend on a government-manufactured umbilical cord as they approach their third decade on earth.
Nonetheless, there are now an estimated 20 states that have already passed legislation requiring insurers to cover adult children. The slacker mandates cover “kids” ranging in age from 24 to 31. And it’s these very government health care mandates that are driving up the cost of insurance. Health policy researcher Nathan Benefield of the Commonwealth Institute reported that in New Jersey, Nanny State peddlers claimed the adult kiddie protection law would help 100,000 uninsured young adults. “Yet in two years, only 6% of that estimate has been realized. The primary reason—health insurance is still too expensive.”
Wisconsin has experienced similar results. “Whenever you insure somebody whom you didn’t insure before there’s some additional risk,” insurance expert James Mueller told the Milwaukee Sentinel-Journal. Mueller points to the premium increases that have followed over coverage mandates on employer-sponsored plans. “The problem with all these good ideas is there’s funding necessary,” Mueller said. In Wisconsin, adult children are not only covered, but also the children of those “children” if they live in single-parent homes.
As he rammed this mandate and the mountain of other government regulations buried in Demcare, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid promised on Sunday: “We are reshaping the nation. That’s what we want to do.” Indeed, this defining dependency up phenomenon is part of the larger push for single-payer-by-proxy. The other universal health care Trojan Horse signed into law this year – the expansion of SCHIP (the State Children’s Health Insurance Program) – welcomed more non-“children” into the government insurance fold.
Both political parties have advocated federal waivers to use SCHIP funds for adults, including parents of Medicaid/SCHIP children, caretaker relatives, legal guardians, and childless adults. According to the General Accounting Office, SCHIP-funded expenditures on adults nationwide “totaled about $674 million in 2006.” J.P. Wieske of the Council for Affordable Health Insurance notes that the bennies incentivize parents to drop their private coverage in order to take advantage of free or discounted health insurance for their children. “It has become a program for the middle class at the expense of the poor.”
This is the engine that will power the Demcare architects’ most naked, radical ambitions: “Health care as an inalienable right,” as Sen. Harkin put it. How? By breeding a massive permanent culture of dependency and bottomless debt in the name of the “children” from birth through quarterlife — and beyond.

What I can I do to fight the exteme depression I have over what is being done to our country?
I sent my worthless senator Blanche Lincoln many e-mails, made phone calls and reminded her office that Arkansans voted 58% for McCain, and 64% of them wanted no part of the senate health care bill.
The result was, of course, she voted for it anyway, at least up to now. The final straw would be if she votes against the bill in the final vote today in which only 51 votes are required for passage, and the bill passes. The old, I didn’t vote for it when it didn’t matter trick for senators who are up for re-election in 2010.
It’s bad enough that the government wants me to “mommy” my employees, now I have to be Grandma as well?
Bob, vote her out next year and vote in someone who’s values are closer to yours, namely a conservative. That is the best cure for your (and my) budget buster blues.
2010 is when we can start to do something about this crap, and a whole lot of us are feeling the same way you are.
Next door to you I’m in Tennessee, where there are also some encouraging signs of late.
Two long time House Democrat Blue Dogs are throwing in the towel already.
John Tanner (D-TN 8 ), my Representative, and Bart Gordon (D-TN 6). These two will most likely be replaced with republicans, and fairly conservative ones at that.
The Democrat that switched to GOP, his district is the Huntsville, Alabama area, not far from where I’m sitting in Western Tennessee.
We here in the South can help destroy Pelosi’s majority by targeting these phonies, like Heath Shuler (D-NC).
I’m growing more optimistic that the tsunami of public resentment these liberals are generating will hit DC next year hard, toppling Queen Plastico I off her throne.
Keep hope alive!
A few words of hope, and change.
That’s right. 2010 is coming.
We are going to put such a beating on House and Senate Democrats, plus Governors and State Legislatures that the DNC will need a truckload of bandages and Neosporin for election night.
I can’t wait!
Just “kicking them out” is after the fact now. The donkey has left the barn and the damage is now in place. Unless this program can be repealed, simply “kicking them out” is just a feel-good retaliation move. That’s why Dems are so happy; Health Care is the vital toehold to later illegal immigrate legalization (to “humanely take care” of those within our borders) and ultimately Universal Free Housing (not apartments or flats but real homes). I rather see our energies devoted to countering this program than simply throwing out Dems while the country is becoming addicted to Nannycare.
Have a Merry Christmas in the last one of a truly non-socialist America.

Of course the Democrats are trying to prolong childhood for as long as possible. They know that when people grow up they realize it would be in their best interest to vote for conservatives.
I’m no longer contributing to the Democrat’s view of utopia called S-CHIP. When Obama doubled the cigarette tax to pay for this boondoggle, I stopped smoking. And haven’t started back, nor do I ever plan to.
a dead thread on a dead blog while the senate is voting?
:::::sigh:::::
Foxnews.com has a “Bringing Home the Bacon” section – could someone show me in the constitution where bacon distribution is a legitimate federal activity.
Rus,
The Constitution no longer exists.
Get it yet?
Thanks bansharia…sometimes I forget.
Rus,
It is what it is my brutha.
This too shall pass after much bloodshed.
Thanks, MM, for this quote (and so much more). This is one worth remembering and passing along, depressing though it is.
Ig,
shame there was no live blogging as dear harry said alot more than that this morning vs 5 days ago. But all the rightwing blogs punted this morning.
Option 1 – 2010 elections
Option 2 – 2012 elections
Option 3 – Civil disobedience

Anybody who is not already sufficiently depressed should take a look at the video of Obama’s interview with Jim Lehrer from yesterday’s News Hour.
Obama expressed his very pissy irritation that the procedures of the Senate are making it more difficult than it should be for him to impose his authoritarian, socialist agenda. It was Chavez-like ominous; his mind was clearly toying with how the fundamental rules of our legislative process could be changed to eliminate any meaningful opposition to his agenda.
All authoritarian rules come round to this sort of thing sooner or later.
(Among the consolations of advancing age is the realistic appraisal that one no longer has as much to lose. That gives one a certain freedom of action in taking a really strong stand against oppression.)
The larger point is that this legislation represents a philosophy that will make children of all of us.
We are destined to become wards of the state, supplicants rather than citizens, in a queue waiting for Nanny to bestow on us our “fair share” of health care.
Obama, Reid et al boast of their plans to “change America” to our faces. It’s one of the few times that they speak the truth.
If we want this to happen we need to get to work:
We need to start the day after Christmas
We need to inform
We need to promote a free market alternative to government
We need to emphasize our goal is the EXPANSION of freedom
We need to educate the young, especially 18-30
We need to support the most conservative candidates
We need to show concern for all Americans
We need to expose ALL corruption
We need to neuter ACORN and the SEIU
We need to insist on integrity in the voter registration process
We need to be unapologetic
We need to understand the MSM will not help us
We need to do everything we do with a smile on our face
Ig,
thankyou for heads up I will wacth it now and here is link for anyone so interested:

The MSM, of course, also considers us children. Thus, they tell us fairy tales. They are afraid that if we knew the facts we might not react in way that they think suitable. Thus they have been largely complicit in the fantastic accounting fraud being perpetrated by these people. Completely Orwellian. I fear that they are going to have to be responded to in the strongest terms.
Thanks for posting the link, bansharia.
flyover has it right. That is a great to do list fly….
I continue to be dumbfounded at “conservatives” who think we have lost and they are convinced that we have lost, try to convince others we have lost, by describing how bad this bill is. All they are doing is making it clear how much work we have to do.
Can you imagine those same folks sitting around in the 1700′s? “Well George, the King has all those Germans he can hire. And they have all those ships…..”
Yes there is work to do. Yes it is an uphill battle. But we have not “lost” and it is time to get busy. Not get depressed. WE control our destiny. Quit letting the left define YOUR future.
The left wants you to believe you have lost and it is hopeless and there is nothing you can do to change and undo what they have done.
The LEFT wants you to believe that.
It is not true.
America is its people, not its government.
People, get busy.
jsmiddleton4,
I wrote my State Senator who seems like a sincere, honest, reasonable man and told him, while I appreciated his efforts, I would not support him any longer.
I mentioned the Healthcare Bill and said after seeing how the Democrats conducted themselves, I would not vote for any Democrat. I told him if he eneded his association with that Party I would support him in a heartbeat.
Tip O’Neil has it right. All politics is local. Get busy locally and rot their foundation.
fly and jsmid,
Good list, fly!
jsmid, as dejected as I am, I recognize that you are absolutely right in pointing out that this battle is not over…it is far, far from over.
I was quite annoyed at headlines and ledes (including Fox) that spoke as if the Senate action was passing the bill into law. People are not paying close attention. If this bill were not still in big trouble, the Dems darn sure would not be contemplating putting if off until after the State of the Union, thus denying Obama the opportunity to crow about his greatest “achievement.”
It was hard to mount opposition when the bill remained only a rumor. Now, the Senate version presents an amazingly target-rich context in which to have this argument. It is filled with corruption, is wildly fradulent, accounting-wise, is very unpopular with the public, and the Dems are in serious conflict among themselves.
This thing was brought to dead halt in August. There is no reason whatsoever why that can’t happen again. All the Dems will have plenty of cover for changing their vote; our task is to make them desperate to distance themselves from this thing.
Yes indeed they do.
Katie Couric: ‘I Feel Like Right Now in Many Ways, We’re a Very Angry Nation’
Peter Jennings telling us we threw a Temper Tantrum for NOT voting his way:
“Some thoughts on those angry voters. Ask parents of any two-year-old and they can tell you about those temper tantrums: the stomping feet, the rolling eyes, the screaming. It’s clear that the anger controls the child and not the other way around. It’s the job of the parent to teach the child to control the anger and channel it in a positive way. Imagine a nation full of uncontrolled two-year-old rage. The voters had a temper tantrum last week….Parenting and governing don’t have to be dirty words: the nation can’t be run by an angry two-year-old.”
– ABC World News Tonight anchor Peter Jennings in his daily ABC Radio commentary, November 14, 1994
BINGO! Wait until they do their tax returns and find out they are not going to get that fat check back because it was eaten up by a penalty for not having insurance they could not afford. We will be in that catagory – sadly.
Christmas Eve Greetings Mrs. Malkin,
Let me raise my mug of green tea in a toast to your clear, sharp, tireless voice in the service of American freedom. Trite to say but so true: your replacement of Thomas Nast’s donkey with the pacifier is priceless. Thank you for your diligence and discipline in the service of our country.
The socialist ethos spun-out-of-control rampant in Washington brings to mind the frantic last portions of Maurice Ravel’s music: Bolero or Pavane for a Dead Princess.
Thank you again for tending well the campfire in this our Valley Forge.
All these nanny state laws are plainly unconstitutional. As you know the congress-critters use the words “general welfare” to justify everything they do. In keeping with Flyoverman’s suggestion to “inform” people here are some quotes to use in teaching people about what is constitutional, and what is not:
“Thomas Jefferson explained in a letter to Albert Gallatin, “Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.”
“[Congressional jurisdiction of power] is limited to certain enumerated objects, which concern all the members of the republic, but which are not to be attained by the separate provisions of any.” – James Madison, Federalist 14
“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined . . . to be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce.” – James Madison, Federalist 45
“If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions.” – James Madison, 1792
“The Constitution allows only the means which are ‘necessary,’ not those which are merely ‘convenient,’ for effecting the enumerated powers. If such a latitude of construction be allowed to this phrase as to give any non-enumerated power, it will go to every one, for there is not one which ingenuity may not torture into a convenience in some instance or other, to some one of so long a list of enumerated powers. It would swallow up all the delegated powers, and reduce the whole to one power, as before observed” – Thomas Jefferson, 1791
“Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.” – Thomas Jefferson, 1798
“This specification of particulars [the 18 enumerated powers of Article I, Section 8] evidently excludes all pretension to a general legislative authority, because an affirmative grant of special powers would be absurd as well as useless if a general authority was intended.” – Alexander Hamilton, Federalist 83
Just who the he!! do these tyrants in DC think they are? How can a handful of ideological nutcases completely transform a beautiful, free republic they way they are doing? What gives them that right?? And don’t tell me they were voted in by the majority. We all know that is not true. Some of the elections were rigged (Al Franken for one), and some of these creeps were appointed, not elected. This was not done by a representative congress!!! My ancestors died in the cause of liberty and freedom, and in less than a year these things are being stripped from us. The Will of the people doesn’t matter to them. These few disgusting moonbats are destroying the best country on the planet and they are congratulating each other for doing it. I don’t want to just kick them out of office…I want them behind bars and on trial for treason. They have totally violated their oath of office to defend and protect the Constitution. They took that oath while believing it is nothing but a bunch of words without meaning. I hate these liberal traitors so much I am seething today. Not a good way to feel on Christmas and I don’t know how to stop.
P.S. My darker thoughts don’t relate so much to HCR, on which I am fairly optimistic. They relate to the larger drift of affairs. Of course, if we can win HCR, then that would be a game changer. Obama’s political capital would be spent/squandered and not just 2010 but 2012 would begin to come into view.
On the downside, a meaningful HCR victory for the Dems is a game changer in the bad direction. It would reinvigorate this rogue (sorry, Sarah) presidency with all its evil schemes for silencing opposition and creating a one-party, Chevez-like, socialist state. That’s where I begin seriously to look at my full range of options to resist.
The healthcare bill just passed in the Senate. Dear God, help us.
I’ll be real blunt, Arizona: I am glad that Peter Jennings is dead.
They were ~all~ rigged, Happy. When the MSM and the public schoos are propaganda arms of one side, how can you have fair elections?
And that brings me to another issue. The MSM must be brought down!! The Tea Party needs to gather at the TV stations and make a HUGE statement! They need to make so much noise that the MSM will not be able to ignore them any longer. DO NOT watch MSM!! They must be boycotted. I don’t care what is on those stations that you like. DO.NOT.WATCH. Destroy their ratings. Put them out of business. They are directly responsible for Obama being elected. That, and the dumbing down of the people in this country by the government-run schools. Take back our children and take back our country, whatever it takes. If we don’t get very very busy now, the next step will be Crap and Tax, then the Censorship Doctrine. They can do it and they will. This has to be stopped and quickly.
It is very much the case that we have work to do. Yes. Most certainly. It is NOT the case that whatever is done today, or any day for that matter, by politicians is forever. If we allow the left to define our power as citizens and the nature of our struggle then we are giving away what our forefathers earned for us.
Yes this current bill sucks. Yes the left is the left and wants socialism. No we have not lost and no the future is not fixed.
Seems to me folks want to not be bothered with getting involved AND want matters to go the way they wish.
The very good news about Obama and all that Obama is for us and the country is folks are waking up and realizing the mistake in their belief that they can ignore government and politics and their lives will go along as they wish.
I am so excited about 2010 and 2012 I can hardly wait.
This is a great time to be an American!
Stop letting the left define you, your citizenship and your future!
Anyone else notice that, as the dangerous, evil deliberate insanity being wrought by the socialists increases in amount and severity; that, on numerous recent threads here at MM.com, we hear less and less, and still less, from our resident socialist, adolescent trolls?
I wonder why.
Breathe deep. Remember the world is a vicious place and there are always slimy people wielding power. Courageous statesmen are the exception, not the rule.
We live in good times. Our bellies are full and our homes are warm. Count your blessings. Pray. Be thankful.
There is a time to live and a time to die.
Don’t let a lowlife slimeball like Harry Reid ruin your celebration or your happiness. Don’t give him that power.
Meanwhile, the Obamas are enjoying their Mao ornament, Hedda Lettuce ornament and Mt. Rushmore/Obama ornament. He’s pretty confident he has all the power.
Excellent reminder.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you, and to all.
For the record:
I think the Democrat Party mascot is perfect. It is the party of the jackass. No question about it.
Thank you both for your words of wisdom. You are right, of course. If we give up, they win. I won’t let them. I am a “seasoned citizen”, and I pray I live long enough to see those people pay for this, each and every one. In the meantime, I will continue to fight them…For my kids and my grandkids sake.
Obama is a one-term potus. He will be defeated in 2012, if not before!! We MUST take back Congress so his power is diminished.
Amen to that, too.
I have noticed that too. You would think they would be gloating right now. If they even try to gloat, I hope their comments are deleted and I hope they are banned. That is the last thing MM should allow right now as we all mourn another loss of liberty.
All,
I have given this a lot of thought. How do we approach this argument? How do we be “principled” and not be called mean spirited?
We have all danced around the issue, but this whole dispute with the left comes down to one issue that EVERYONE will understand…….
FREEDOM
You want to end poverty? Provide Universal Healthcare? Keep the fiancial markets solvent?
Fine we’ll talk, but we will not support or entertain any solution that diminishes FREEDOM.
Let the other side try and demonixze that. We will not accept a Healthcare solution that diminishes FREEDOM.
We need to focus on that principle like a laser beam. We are not the Tea Party Movement, we are the Freedom Movement.
FREEDOM is the key issue and the key to our articulating our ideas.
My opinion.
Khrushchev once said, “We will bury you.” So far, it seems to be working. We didn’t realize it was an internal “burying”.
I have noticed.
Although I am one who does not link Chap with that description (troll), he has less and less to say about many of these threads. Much of the time he plays the redirect card. I can only assume he is not happy though he has never led me to believe so. I would love, just once, for Chap to come right out and say that the left if giving this country an enema and he is not happy about it.
Don’t forget – he himself has no power – nothing at all.
It’s the power of his string-pullers that must – must – be broken…that must be totally destroyed.
I caught the last part of our Liar-n-Chief’s telepromter speech about how grateful we are going to be when it all kicks in. And then, as he was leaving some asked if he had anything to say to the troops. I bet bho hates not being the center of it all.
Now to work on getting these clowns out of public service permanently! One of my senators is up for reelection. I’ll personally buy his ticket to Cuba.
I think that the nation has every right to be angry, especially since CBS News keeps trying to ram Katie Couric down the nation’s throat, refusing to believe that, after over a year, she is still running dead last in the ratings. I would, however, give her first place in drunken dancing, fetching champagne for White House state dinner party crashers, and overuse of makeup. Another example of the left’s uncontrollable habit of rewarding losers for their lack of constructive accomplishments.
Some individuals, unnecessary to name, post virtually nothing else but mocking, ridiculing, noncontributory comments, in a lame, predictable, boring, adolescent-male-display-way of attracting attention and demonstrating the cleverness that they wrongly believe that they have, but that they longingly wish that they had…because they actually have nothing meaningful nor substantial to say.
Yes! And that includes freedom to stop paying taxes and starve the beast. I am hearing that more and more lately. If we stop funding this boondoggle, maybe we can slow it down. They are feeding off our hard-earned money. Don’t give it to them!
Speaking of this longer-term optimism and assuming that we take only a limited hit on HRC*, then amnesty seems to me the next big threat.
I am concerned about the issues that have the potential to permanently change the political landscape. The continued importation (I realize that it has slowed, for now) of large numbers of low-skilled, poorly educated people from countries with little tradition of democracy will doom our Republic. They will overwhelmingly vote Democrat and they will swamp the public services that they will demand and that the Dems so eagerly provide. Demography is destiny.
*If Obama wins big on HCR — something we should be able to prevent — I believe we will probably have lost our Republic although it would not put me in a war-like frame of mind in the way that an Obama assault on the internet or talk radio would…those things truly would be acts of war. I’d wait for the consequences of HCR to play out for a few years before judging the full consequences. But my guess is that that single measure would so enlarge the government’s role in our lives and our economy that we would move from being predominantly a free-enterprise nation to being predominantly a socialized state completely dominated by an authoritarian government. There would come a time, then, that patriots would have to put it all on the line to throw off the hand of tyranny.
Katie Couric is a worthless tool. Another one is Martha Stewart. I just saw her on TV this a.m. talking about this Senior Citizen residence she is building in honor of her late mother. She wants senior citizens to have good lives in their twilight years. Unfortunately, Martha, you are another idiot liberal moonbat who doesn’t realize that senior citizens will be destroyed by this bill. What is wrong with these supposedly intelligent people?? In honor of her Mother, she should have been fighting against the very legislation that will form death panels. Hey Martha…read the bill, you moron!!
Any chance of that actually happening? I would suggest that if you routinely get a tax refund, immediately adjust your withholding so that you come out even, or perhaps even need to pay at the end of the year.
As long as money is endlessly printed as wanted out of thin air, not sure how effective a “tax strike” could be.
I can’t see people not paying the taxes they are required to pay in large enough groups to matter.
Just logged on to say that even in these dark days I hope Michelle and all of her readers have a very Merry CHRISTmas.
As far as the subject of the article is concerned,I’m too disgusted to make any comment that would be printable.
Again,Merry CHRISTmas.
Well, some people have said they are going to stop paying altogether. But a better idea is to increase your dependents so that the government can’t use your money until the last minute. At least it will slow them down…maybe.
Whatever happened to Ragspierre???
happy, Martha Stewart represents an aspect of the assault on our Republic that I have increasingly thought about recently: It is a war of the lower classes and the elites against the middle class.
Everyone expects those at the bottom to be Dems. But the top income earners support Obama just as fervently as do the bottom earners. Many people who have their personal prosperity assured beyond any possible threat, seek to feel righteous and generous by forcing the economic and social merger of the lower and middle classes.
Martha Stewart will always have access to world class medicine, no waiting. Martha Stewart has so much money that she can laugh at the doubling of taxes, the tripling. No one with a housing voucher and a drug habit will ever move out of public housing and next door to Martha. Martha’s grandchildren (?) can always go to Sidwell Friends and such places (with the Obama girls). If they are bad students, they can still go to an elite college. Martha will never stand in line at the grocery store or ride the subway or much expose herself to the general jostling of an increasingly aggressive, lower-class-behaving culture.
But even with all Martha’s money, she will not pay for the new socialist state. The middle class will pay, because that’s where the money is. The rich may be loaded individually, but there aren’t so many of them. At the end of the day, the socialist state will be built on the backs of the middle class.
But Martha and Streisand and all the Hollywood types and elites who are pushing all of this and financing the Dems will never feel the slightest inconvenience. They will continue to enjoy their estates and their cocktail and dinner parties and limos and private jets, etc. And they will feel good about their part in making America a more virtuous country.
Does the provision that this bill can never be repealed bother any of the liberal senators? Does it bother any of the congressmen? It made a lot of jaws drop in our office when we heard this mentioned!
Sen. Snowe, for once, made her view clear when she voted no to the bill, re: statement in her MSNBC interview
http://www.breitbart.tv/snowe-health-bill-deals-earn-no-vote/
I hope she does not backtrack!
Voting in Conservatives in 2010 and 2012 won’t allow us to repeal this monstrosity, if this bill passes. It is unconstitutional and should be labeled as such now! Shouldn’t there be a challenge in court for all that this administration is trying to pull?
Flight 93:
Promptly 8 years too early.
All the while, mocking the very capitalist system that allowed them to amass their wealth. The liberal hypocrisy lives on.
There’s a coup d’etat in Washington, going on, right now, and many Americans don’t even realize it and probably don’t care. Oh, they will care once they see their paychecks lessen and they’ve been denied coverage for a treatment. Too late then.
Off topic…Here in Bloomington, Minnesota, we are receiving over a foot of global warming for Christmas this year. Our Christmas has been postponed until this weekend. Christmas Eve will be Sat. with my husband’s relatives and Christmas Day will be Sunday with my side. So today and tomorrow, we are snowed in. My husband will spend the day plowing out the driveway between storms, and I might make a snowman…or at least some snow angels. Ooops…can I do that? Oh, I guess it is on my own property, so angels are not yet banned there. Sigh. Anyway, we will still celebrate our Savior’s birth tomorrow by praying, listening to caroles, thanking God for sending His Son so we have true hope, not the kind the evil ones are trying to dish out. A blessed Christmas to all of you patriots out there and keep fighting for God and Country! I have read the Bible and I know the good guys win.
To paraphrase Tiny Tim: God help us, every one.
happy, I don’t think that a bit of Christmas chatter is out of order. Merry Christmas to you and to all!
I’m off to make those snow angels. God bless all of you. Later.
I agree, Ignatius. Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope Happy makes some great snow angels.
CBO refutes Obama’s claim that they confirmed that the Senate bill reduces costs. Of course, he wasn’t lying (even his soul buds Fidel and Hugo as well as Danny Glover have said he is liar). He is just being stabbed in the back assuming the CBO would lie for him.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas indeed. Still lots to feel blessed about.
Here in S. Florida (75 degrees at the moment) we are left with making sand angels. Works for us though!
The last time I made a snow angel was after jumping out of our hot tub… on a dare. Have fun!
I’m off to drink another beer and write my name in the snow! Merry Christmas everyone! You too Zero! (hic)
Sretan Bozič!
Frölich Weinachten!
Merry Christmas!
P.S. I have discovered that making snow angels in this depth of snow is impossible! If I fall back into the snow, I will be buried and not found until spring!

I’m watching some GLOBULL WARMING (aka snow) melting off the 8000 ft. high mountains near my El Paso, Tx. home. I read the first 2 chapters of Luke after morning prayers–the real Christmas Story.
***
I got my GOING ROGUE book–”free” after a donation to Sarah Palin’s PAC. The first chapters speak a lot about this woman’s character–strong independent values taught by her good parents and family. And the INNER TOUGHNESS that Michelle Malkin writes about in this article. The Sarah’Cuda sure sounds like the real American on our political scene.

SARAH PALIN for POTUS, JOHN BOLTON for VP. The real AMERICA FIRST ticket. Let’s hand Comrade Obama (PBUH) and his congressional ilk their pink slips in the 2010 and 2012 elections–our Christmas present for them. Maybe they will enjoy FunEmployment–make it happen.

Merry Christmas all. Making ice angels here in Northern Indiana. Too dangerous to venture on the road. I’ll take the gingerbread to mom tomarrow.
Will try to lighten my mind of the awful turn of political events. Live to fight another day!
LOL. I had the same thought b-cat. What donkeys!!!
Merry Christmas Michelle, and all the Malkinites! The battle has just begun. I am glad that MM is on our side.
Unfortunately, the GOP mascot, the elephant (never forgets), is not as good a match as they keep forgetting fiscal discipline, less government is better, Constitutional principles, etc.
I’d vote for the male African Lion: they look good and sound impressive, but are basically lazy, and let the females do the hunting (thank you Sarah, Michele, Ann, Laura and Michelle!).
I guess nothing can shock me anymore about these Marxists, but to be so bold as to stick ornaments on your Christmas tree with the face of Mao Zedong, a drag Queen, and your face shellacked onto Mt. Rushmore really just about says it all about this wackjob ego- maniacal leftist President and the traitors in Congress.

“Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance….. Feign disorder and then crush him.” Sun Tzu 514 B.C.
Slaves have to get theirs you know. They love Marxism, as do the Demorats.
We no longer live in a Constitutional Republic. We now live under tyranny!
When the democrats are done we will be living in a fascist country.
As Thomas Jefferson said;1787 Nov. 13. “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”
Unless we the people revolt, we will have to endure this communist take over of the USA.
Who is with me?
In many respects this is “deja vu all over again”. In the 1930′s the FDR administration attempted to regulate business under its NRA wage/price controls program, which was struck down decisively by the Supreme Court as going well beyond the limited powers granted to Congress and the Executive under the Constitution.
Even the most liberal Supreme Court member would recognize that giving plenary power to the other branches of government would make THEIR branch superfluous. These “health bill” individual mandates, as well as the severe federal regulation of the insurance industry, are thus ripe for constitutional attack.
Can anyone imagine even a Sotomayor buying the argument that (a) health insurance is a “right”, and (b) it is lawful for the feds to fine or imprison a citizen who chooses not to exercise that “right” by opting not to buy insurance from government-authorized private parties?
Can the feds force private insurance companies, which are set up to manage risk for profit, to take on all applicants, even if their aggregate risk will make the enterprises unprofitable?
That’s not just legal incoherence — it is the arrogant expression of tyranny. The successors to John Marshall, Frankfurter, Holmes and all the other Supreme Court greats will never allow this, as they understand they will be gutting their own power and authority.
If the RNC was smart they would spearhead the lawsuits at the supreme court that all of these legislative efforts are unconstitutional and sue them one by one.
I think you are right that the Supreme Court would overturn these unconstitutional laws.
Absolutely, I can. And if you don’t think so, then you are desperately naive. There are whole law faculties at prestigious universities who believe in “positive rights” alleged to be inherent in the constitution as opposed to the constitution being merely about restraints and limitations. As a matter of fact, Barak Obama is a former lecturer at just such a university who holds this view. He has plenty of company, including on the SCOTUS, although probably not a majority YET.
Michelle, the binky is inspired! Every GOP ad in 2010 should feature the image, and we should start calling all the traitors by that name: Binky Reid, Binky Pelosi, Binky Nelson.
Meanwhile, a blessed and merry Christmas to everyone! God’s purposes will never be defeated.
Good gawd! If we count on that we are truly going to be socialist by 2010.
We give “children” the right to vote now? I have become Pro-choice- I choose to opt of the federal government. Come and get me.
I didn’t believe the ornament thing until I saw it with my own eyes!! It seemed like a silly rumor. How could he have the audacity to put ornaments like those on the official White House tree?? That is the People’s House, dammit!! How dare they do that??? A Mao Christmas ornament hanging on our tree?? Can this POTUS be so blind that he doesn’t understand what Mao actually did?? Or maybe his education was so poor, he didn’t study the truth about Mao. Maybe Obama actually thinks Mao was a good person!! Is that possible? Can he be that stupid? No, I think he knows exactly what he is doing. Talk about thumbing his marxist, communist nose at the people AND at Christianity!! And to disrespect our house like that is truly disgusting. He will live to rue the day he gave us the finger…I swear he will. I will watch that Benedict Arnold being led away in cuffs, and put behind bars forever. Treason is the worst offense you can commit, and Obama is a traitor. If I was at the WH right now, I would find a way to take down those ornaments and destroy them, as they deserve. Folks, the President of the United States is a muslum communist! It is true. There is no longer any denying it. We have really done it this time!! We thought Jimmuh Cahtah was bad? You aint seen nothin yet!
I am praying that happy doesn’t get her hands on Obama. We’ve got Biden and Pelosi waiting on deck.
Don’t get me wrong…and to those secret service people reading this blog…I only want to destroy the ornaments, not harm the people. I do want them in jail, but I mean them no physical harm. Got that?? However, if thinking made it so…never mind.
Didn’t mean to get you in dutch…you were perfectly clear about your rage being entirely within legal bounds. Good to clarify for the SS, though.
On the floor before the vote, Majority Leader Harry Reid said, “We’re going to hear an earful, but it’s going to be an earful of wonderment and happiness that people waited for for a long time.”
Yes, he really is that delusional. And when the people rise up against him and this crap bill, he will be stunned, stunned I tell you! It is not possible! Everybody wanted this bill! Everybody!! /////
(I sure hope Obama doesn’t slip on an ornament shard after happy smashes them and fall on the debris in just the wrong way so that so that he severs his freakin’ carotid artery. Those glass shards can be mightly slippery on a parquet floor. )
Speaking of the RNC, HERE is their big plan to stop the bill. There site is just sad. No plan to do anything with the exception to get you to donate. That is the biggest thing I am left wth when I visit. NOT a plan to take back the WH and Congress. Nope – none at all.
Fittingly, they want to redirect you to the Republican Action Network – RAN as in from the fight.
I wasn’t worried, Ig!
