Yes:

In what was described as an act of terrorism, a Nigerian passenger attempted to ignite an incendiary device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Friday as the plane began its approach for landing, federal officials said. The plane landed safely shortly before noon local time.

The suspected would-be bomber suffered burns as the result of his attempt, and two of the other 277 passengers reported minor injuries, authorities said. FBI agents were investigating the incident, which a White House official said was believed to be terrorism.

“He was trying to ignite some kind of incendiary device,” said a federal anti-terrorism official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. “He lit himself on fire and he’s suffered some burns.”

The official did not reveal the nature of the explosive device and said it was too early to say how potent or sophisticated it was. The passenger has been identified as a Nigerian who began traveling from Nigeria and caught the flight in Amsterdam, the anti-terrorism official said.

I don’t think you buy this at WalMart–or make it from stuff you can buy at your local beauty supply store! The passengers and crew really dodged a bullet on this attack.

That’s the stuff alright, and no you don’t get it at WalMart, but except in the USA, in a lot of places it’s used in lieu of bulldozers and chainsaws. So, not too hard to get a hold of if you know where and how. But the amount he was carrying would have been more than enough to breach the plane’s skin. However, given his seated position, the location of the explosives (in his underwear) and the tamping factor of his body most of the explosion would have been directed upwards and a hull breach unlikely. Still, this should not be taken lightly.

A voice separate from partisan politics that has led us astray from the ideals of our founding fathers.

I agree with you about most of us not being in denial and would have used the term like wingnuts for the descriptor of Democratic Underground people.
Ok, convince me that most of those here want to kill all brown people. I’ve spent most of my life (some 30 years all told) defending this country and perhaps understandably resent the implications of your post.
As to Mr. Obama, he doesn’t need bashing, he regularly and routinely bashes himself with his own words, broken promises and paralysis of action except where it comes to bullying weak kneed, lily livered, spineless, pusillanimous, morally and ethically bankrupt fellow politicians in this country. I might add that I’ve not read a single threat to the life of Mr. Obama here which parenthetically makes you someone whose veracity is dubious at best.

Now we learn that there were all sorts of red flags around this nut job and our gov couldn’t seen to have the time or inclination to have his name added to the no fly list. As a result of an office glich, all passengers will need to go to airport for a strip search and be duct-taped to the seat. I disagree. That would be the lazy conclusion. This occurred due to years of “progressive” efforts to diminish the truth and common sense of a complacent public.

The Lame Stream Media (starting with Hollywood, then Advertisements, then the News) and our educational system have been the forerunners of the cause.

If we purge our Educational system of political lies and indoctrination, then require “honest” news reporting, then eliminate communist organizations (i.e. ACLU), we may be able to recover from this cancerous “sickness” called communism and return the USA back to the greatest country on the planet.

Either you trust Americans in general will do the right thing or if folks can’t do the right thing for themselves you by default need to have a government which controls those drooling imbeciles.

    Which is it?

Somebody explain to me how anyone in their right mind can say “the system worked”.

The only thing that “worked” here was the terrorist’s inability to get the explosive device to “work”.

I agree. One flight I take usually lasts 1 hour 20 minutes. I guess anyone needing to use the restroom must do so within that first 20 minutes.

50 million procto exam gloves, 10 million tubes of K-Y jelly

…only 1 in every 5 will get lubed?

Maybe even less than that since Bawney Fwank would become a frequent flier just for the generous cavity searches before the flight.

Congress needs to hold hearings into this immediately, and this damn fool needs to be one of the highlights.

Do you have a link to an article? I’d like to see what other asinine comments she made….like how she could claim any system that allowed a jihadi bomber to light his bomb and a landing aircraft worked. Or how a civilian could take him down instead of a Federal Air Marshall could possibly be construed as working.

This kind of stupidity ensures a plane will be going in.

It’s amazing/appalling the hoops that a small bunch of fanatics has this country jumping thru! Instead of accommodating them we ought simply covertly ferret and WIPE THEM OUT! Do the Israeli (Sword of Gideon?) assassination route stealth style! One bullet one hit! Neighbors won’t even know our SEALS/Delta/ Berets/X-Force were even next door snuffing out the bastards.

“The American Voter is a drooling imbecile, or hadn’t you noticed?”

Sorry but I disagree. Are some voters mindless? Yes. ALL voters? Let’s hope not.

A couple of you seem to have misconstrued the meaning of my comment.

I used the singlular: “The American Voter.” This means I was speaking of the average, the election result, not every individual in the class. I was speaking of the class of people considered as a whole.

If you think the election results in 2006 and especially in 2008 are not proof positive of the ongoing imbecility of that class of people, then perhaps you belong to that class.

However, I figure you just misunderstood my meaning. I am inclined to think there are very few people who comment here who don’t realize just how incredibly stupid the American Voter was in 2006 and 2008.

I agree with you completely the only real hope for the world is still the American Voter.

    Consider that truth and pray.

Same thing can be said of Obama’s legitimacy to run for President.

What would make anyone think that a Democrat controlled Congress would give a rat’s a$$ about doing their job? They haven’t yet, at least on the left side of the isle.

Thanks bjc. I see our gracious hostess has added a separate post on this…as it should be since this needs to go in the permanent memory file for when the next attack occurs.

    Sheeesh. Even I do it.

It should have read: “If you think the election results in 2006 and especially in 2008 are not proof positive of the ongoing imbecility of that class of people as a whole, then perhaps you are one of the members of the class that make it so imbecilic.”

Of course we both belong to that class (the class of American voters). We are among the people in that class who do not represent the class, since the class does not choose to elect the kind of leadership we think it should.
