Damage control in 30 seconds: Ben Nelson’s CYA ad

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 30, 2009 01:40 PM

Cornhuckster sellout Sen. Ben Nelson will grovel before Nebraskans in a 30-second political spot airing tonight during the Holiday Bowl game.

Can you disguise the taint of Demcare bribes and beclowning with half a minute of folksy chatter?

Methinks not:

As a fresh poll measured the political cost of Sen. Ben Nelson’s health reform vote, he prepared Tuesday to take his case directly to Nebraskans during Wednesday night’s Holiday Bowl game.

Nelson will air a new TV ad in which he attempts to debunk opposition claims that the Senate legislation represents a government takeover, and he makes the case for health care reform.

“With all the distortions about health care reform, I want you to hear directly from me,” the Democratic senator says in the ad.

Nelson, dressed in an open-necked shirt and sweater, speaks directly into the camera during the 30-second ad.

The message will be launched during the Nebraska-Arizona football game and continue to air statewide for an undisclosed number of days.

Nelson, who isn’t up for re-election until 2012, is banking on voters’ short memories to save him from cratering Rasmussen numbers.

Don’t count on it, buster. Corruption stinks — and sticks.

BTW, traditionally, the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl has been the best of the pre-New Years bowls. Tonight’s matchup between two Top 25 teams, the Nebraksa Cornhuskers and star defender Ndamukong Suh, who almost ruined Texas’ perfect season, and Mike Stoop’s Arizona team that beat USC and ASU, and took Pac-10 champ Oregon to overtime, promises to be an action packed and exciting game!

As far as schooled. We taught him last year that Dems were cool and Repubs were evil losers. What could we expect?

I didn’t realize he had 3 years to go. Thats why he did it. He has 3 years and a committment by Reid to give him lots of cash from the DNC for reelection.

He probably thought he was in the pink until his poll numbers cratered more than he or Reid anticipated. Nows he’s doing damage control to keep it from being too bad as he will have 3 years to fix it up, but doesn’t want too big of a hole. Speaking of holes…

He also is using the Dem playbook on this. Confuse, condemn, castigate, and claim that the bill is not what it is. They all know the bill will change so it’s not a lie right? It’s the opponents who are lying. He is a Dem in Dems clothing.
