Damage control in 30 seconds: Ben Nelson’s CYA ad

Cornhuckster sellout Sen. Ben Nelson will grovel before Nebraskans in a 30-second political spot airing tonight during the Holiday Bowl game.
Can you disguise the taint of Demcare bribes and beclowning with half a minute of folksy chatter?
Methinks not:
As a fresh poll measured the political cost of Sen. Ben Nelson’s health reform vote, he prepared Tuesday to take his case directly to Nebraskans during Wednesday night’s Holiday Bowl game.
Nelson will air a new TV ad in which he attempts to debunk opposition claims that the Senate legislation represents a government takeover, and he makes the case for health care reform.
“With all the distortions about health care reform, I want you to hear directly from me,” the Democratic senator says in the ad.
Nelson, dressed in an open-necked shirt and sweater, speaks directly into the camera during the 30-second ad.
The message will be launched during the Nebraska-Arizona football game and continue to air statewide for an undisclosed number of days.
Nelson, who isn’t up for re-election until 2012, is banking on voters’ short memories to save him from cratering Rasmussen numbers.
Don’t count on it, buster. Corruption stinks — and sticks.

My boss, who went to high school in Nebraska, was telling me last year how Nelson was different from other Demonrats.
I gotta go find Mark Steyn’s description of Nelson, something like “grotesque zombie”.
Perfect fit.
“You’re not gonna get re-elected.”
BTW, traditionally, the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl has been the best of the pre-New Years bowls. Tonight’s matchup between two Top 25 teams, the Nebraksa Cornhuskers and star defender Ndamukong Suh, who almost ruined Texas’ perfect season, and Mike Stoop’s Arizona team that beat USC and ASU, and took Pac-10 champ Oregon to overtime, promises to be an action packed and exciting game!
So sorry ben, it is not gonna help! People have long memories who has been good and who has been bad.
L
This is not a smart move at all. Does he not realize that the last thing that Cornhusker fans are going to want to see during the game is a political adverstisment.
I’m your top prime cut of meat, I’m your choice
I wanna be elected
I’m your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce I wanna be elected
Kids want a savior, don’t need a fake
I wanna be elected
We’re gonna rock to the rules that I make
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
I never lied to you, I’ve always been cool
I wanna be elected
I gotta get the vote, and I told you about school
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
Hallelujah, I wanna be elected
Everyone in the United States of America
We’re gonna win this one, take the country by storm
We’re gonna be elected
You and me together, young and strong
We’re gonna be elected, elected, elected
Respected, selected, call collected
I wanna be elected, elected
-Alice Cooper
We ALL need to make darn sure of that, for all of the sellouts on all of the ’09 ‘selling of America bills’.
Glad your keepin’ track Michelle, we will be as well.
The commercial will be a great back-drop for his 2012 opponent’s campaign ads.
There’s a heckuvalot of things these dems became unaware of during their most recent legislative effort. They’ll be getting schooled this new year.
Senator ‘Ben Neelin’ of NE ben outed.
Errah, I’ll trade ya one Ben for a Mikulski . . .
Correct me if I am wrong but, not only did Ben sell out his right to life crowd who helped him get elected he also set the ground work for s simple majority vote of 51. True?
It would appear Ben has hit rock bottom and started to dig.
Oh ya, Ben, keeping yourself at the forefront of the discussion right now is REALLY SMART.

I live in Nebraska and this guy is done. I and many many others contacted him before the vote to compel him to vate against it. He did not follow what we his bosses wanted and will not be retained. He has also heard that many times and is already trying to save his political hide 3 years before he is up for election.
Michelle, I hope you got a nap since this morning.
How in the heck can the Constitution allow for all US taxpayers to pay for the medicare benefits for Nebraska? Seems like there is a violation of the spirit of Federalism if not the actual law.
There are multiple violations of the constitution in this bill, including CA Red’s equal protection clause concerns. Lawyers will be working on this for years….
Okay….somebody ‘splain me. I live in Colorado and I will be MANDATED to help pay Medicare/Medicaid for the citizens of Florida and Nebraska? This is good for me how?
It doesn’t.
How in the heck can the Constitution allow for all US taxpayers to pay for the medicare benefits for
Nebraskaanyone? Seems like there is a violation of the spirit of Federalism if not the actual law.The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
.
Lyin’ Ben was on KFAB yesterday and actually claimed that special interest tv ads swayed Nebraskans’ opinions of his actions re: the bill. He still doesn’t get it. He is a disgrace.
That is exactly what at least 7 state AG’s are looking at right now (I am proud to say that my AG here in WA ST is one of them).
The fact of the matter is the overwhelming majority of his constituents know what a disaster this bill is. His only defense is Nebraskans won’t get screwed quite as bad as the rest of the country. Not exactly a very convincing argument.
“With all the distortions about health care reform, I want you to hear directly from me,” the Democratic senator says in the ad.

Well Benny boy, how many Hunters did you here from? Didn’t you hear directly from them? Did you listen?
OT! anyone else missing the do-dads from above the comment box?
The Jokster has three years to spin his tale, or tail, there by helping the economy of the TV station in Nebraska. Dig Benny dig and let us hope the people of Nebraska have long memories.
We are hoping he comes to Arizona next year to campaign for his good friend and fellow elitist El Presidente Wannabe McCain. Constitution? What Constitution-these people don’t need no stinkin’ Constitution.
How could a DEMOCRAT get elected in a state like NEBRASKA anyway?
How do hard working farmers, and small-town good old Americans elect one of these liberal, stupid Demonrats anyway?
Nevermind! Browser malfunction.
Geez, I hope the rest of the country isn’t subjected to this crapweasel.
Make that an Andrew Jackson and take both of the idiots from Maryland.
pu pu pu please!!!
Nelson obviously believes Nebraskans are morons.
Riiiiight. And Max Baucus wasn’t drunk. Got it.
BTW Ben…You’re Fired!!
This is a strategy by the Dem’s to poll test various strategies to sell Obamacare. The right to life groups, as well the gop should be out front countering these ads. Do not let them get traction or try to “frame the debate”. Nelson is lying in the ad, call him on it asap…full page ads can’t cost much anymore, right?
Methinks it is time for toady, rumpswab Senators (and reps) to hear directly from us. We’ve heard too much from them already. Actions speak louder than lies, I mean, words.
Nelson aside, I want to see how Nebraskans handle this now that this has been dumped in their laps.
Will they accept the goodies given to Nelson in their name or will they either vote him out in 2012 or recall him?
Can Nebraskans be bought?
Can Nebraskans’ memories be erased by goodies?
Sure hope not, time will tell (but I’m pullin for em).
I wish that Oklahoma’s senators could be cloned, and sent throughout the Senate and House.
My state’s Sen. Inouye will probably die in office rather than turn over the reins to someone else. He has one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel.
*Nelson can CYA all he wants, but come 2012, both he and P-BO will be out pounding sand; I’d be willing to bet that Nelson will not run in 2012 as he is already the equivalent of the stuff they shovel up in the feed lots of Nebraska!
*That Suh guy is good; He’ll be the Lions’ #1 pick!
*Never forget that Nelson has 59 other partners in crime, and that the “Death to America” party, the Democratic Party, must be stopped for America to prevail; It is that serious!
Bawney Fwank, no one is talking to you….
I now feel safe in placing Nelson in the same cesspool as Pelosi, Reid, Murtha, Pbo and all his czars and czarinas. Mrs Barry O is close, but she is just a criminal milking the situation for all it’s worth.
We need a first lady like Carla, Mrs. France!!! And lest hustle up JaNaps transition back to unemployed moron in Arizona!!!
This speaks volumes for the collective integrity of the people of Nebraska. Idiot Nelson thought that he could buy them, and that they would sell-out, for a few Medicaid bucks.
If only the northeast and west could show the same strength in character and integrity.
What’s he wasting the air time for? Most of these criminals we will put out to the curb in 2010 will turn around and make more money as lobbyists anyway. They DON’T CARE about losing their next election, they’ll be long gone making more money elsewhere before Deathcare hits full swing.
Urge your state legislature to collect your citizen’s income taxes on behalf of the Fed. Then send only your fair share (cost / population) for those things allowed only by the enumerated powers (e.g. military (common defense). Provide for the rest by yourselves and refund the difference. If your politicians are honest (mileage my vary) you will get a healthy refund. It should be very educational if done correctly.
Not necessarily, there are a lot of good players coming out this year. (Plus I hope the Bucs get him- I would settle for Ingrahm however)
I don’t have much confidence in voter’s memories based on th losers that get reelected every time (I mean Ted Kennedy for Christ’s sake). I would rather see states recall their reps and fire them. It is up to each state to handle their own reps. How much integrity and fortitude do they have?
WE don’t want her back…Send her to GITMO.
‘The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals …
it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government …
it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen’s protection against the government.’
–author and philosopher Ayn Rand (1905-1982)
How did Nelson get elected?
Like most Demonrats from anywhere but college towns, gay meccas and inner cities.
By lying their a$$es off and claiming not to be Marxists.
A lot of chips and popcorn will be thrown at the tv during this ad.
As far as schooled. We taught him last year that Dems were cool and Repubs were evil losers. What could we expect?
I didn’t realize he had 3 years to go. Thats why he did it. He has 3 years and a committment by Reid to give him lots of cash from the DNC for reelection.
He probably thought he was in the pink until his poll numbers cratered more than he or Reid anticipated. Nows he’s doing damage control to keep it from being too bad as he will have 3 years to fix it up, but doesn’t want too big of a hole. Speaking of holes…
He also is using the Dem playbook on this. Confuse, condemn, castigate, and claim that the bill is not what it is. They all know the bill will change so it’s not a lie right? It’s the opponents who are lying. He is a Dem in Dems clothing.
Only thing is he probably doesn’t care much if he’s not re-elected. He’s got his golden parachaute, “pension”(?), $$ book tours, and his name forever in the history books for supporting the 1st black president.
Even sadder, what good would voting him out do now? The (his) damage is already done — unless it can be repealed.

Let me see If I can figure this out:
It probably costs close to a million dollars to run a Senate campaign. That’s if you have a no name running against you.
So everyone who backed you is saying don’t vote for it.
You vote for it.
Ben I hope you have a bunch of money of your own laying around.
As ron white said “You can’t fix stupid”
I see 13 state AGs are threatening legal action to remove the Nebraska bribe. I hope more threats are made and followed through to stop this corruption.
I wonder if he’ll spend any of his precious 30 seconds defending the honor of Omaha Steaks, whose reputation apparently has been sullied by some who used the company’s name to describe his acceptance of a bribe.
That’s how he spent most of his CSPAN face time in order to justify his dastardly vote (while an inebriated Max Baucus expressed outrage that Ted Kennedy’s name was invoked by someone who wasn’t a Democrat).
He wasn’t inebriated. He was drunk of his a$$. He was lucky he was talking that trash in the Senate chambers. In a bar, he’d have been thumped or ejected or both.
ECS
…drunk OFF his a$$.
I need a new keyboard. It doubles some letters and misses others.

“How does a Democrat get elected in Nebraska?”
By sounding as conservative as the moderate Republicans , then voting with the radical socialists in D.C.
Sen.J.J. Exon was carried to election by pro-life folks over a pro-choice GOP moderate, then joined the lynching of Pro-Life Judge Bork.
Sen. Bob Kerry was a ‘fiscal conservative’ who called Clinton “a remarkable liar”. His vote saved Clinton’s tax hike.
Now Nelly joins the parade of Nebraska Dem senators who talk like Reagan, and vote like Lenin.
All three were former Governors, as well.
With Nelly, Nebraskans of mediocrity have representation in the Senate!
At least the Cornhuskers won.
How do these self-serving, smarmy bastards get elected to office? Have we citizens been asleep at the wheel for the last 25-30 years? Looks that way. So long Ben. Don’t let the door hit you in the ar$e on the way out.
Term limits, term limits anyone?
I give you Lincoln and Pryor as examples. Most voters don’t think.
Thirty seconds to go the bathroom, get my drink refreshed and mute the television while I’m away. What an idiot.
HIs arrogance is beyond the imagination. It’s a shame that he has three more years but I hope Nebraska voters will not forget.
nebraska has several big industries other than the oracle of omaha. insurance and mastercard are both big omaha bribers, and to the uninitiated the farmers bribery consortium is also very powerful. it takes price supports to allow farmers in the upper midwest to live november to march in the southwest. these bribes are most often given to congress critters with d behind their names.
