Happy New Year to you Michelle and all the patriots on this blog. I pray the good Lord will pour out his blessings on all of you and your families in 2010. I am thankful that Rush will back to spread the truth about this great nation and the need to preserve it. Keep up the good work all.

Geez! I thought I was ‘broke down’ after 1,430 jumps (maybe a few more I forgot to log) and eight broken ankles.

Have you ever tried using a parachute? ;)

    UH-1 is officially retired now.

OH NO!!!! No Huey’s and wearing black berets? The Army has officially gone to hell. :)

While she was a good bird in her time. The Blackhawk has almost 31 years TIS to her credit. She’s proved faster, quieter, more survivable and carries a bigger payload including more heavily armed and armored troops than UH-1 was ever designed for in climates and altitudes that Huey doesn’t perform nearly as well in. I know some hot pilots in either or both birds, and while there were only a couple of pilots who could loop a Huey, many more can do so with the Blackhawk. She’d get you there.

As to the black beret thing, that’s Shinseki’s doing he was wonderful at fashion statements and other than a couple of times just as lousy at Army CoS as he is as head of VA.

The next thing you’re going to tell me is they took the Tabasco out of the MRE’s. ;)

Not exactly. They’ve added more condiments to all of the MREs. Here’s a sample of the 2009 menus with my son’s and my comments.
    Entrees:
Chili w/beans (2 thumbs up), Pork Ribs w/Potato Cheddar Soup (My son likes, I say its so-so), Beef Ravioli (2 thumbs up), Country Sausage, granola, blueberries and milk (My son likes, me – meh), Chicken Breast w/Cornbread Dressing (2 thumbs up), Chicken w/Noodles and cheese spread (2 ok if you add in the cheese spread), Beef Brisket (2Xthey need a better BBQ sauce like ‘sissy sauce’), Meatballs in Marinara sauce (Son likes, me – So-so), Beef Stew w/Mashed potatoes (2 ok – we’re spoiled), Chili Mac (tolerable good), Vegetable Lasagne (Ok, edible), Veggie Burger and BBQ sauce (ok if you can heat it up), Cheese Tortellini (OK, I recuse myself), Penne Pasta w/ Vegetarian sausage (Good, I recuse myself), Beef Enchilada w/ Frijoles refrites (2X thumbs up taste like frozen dinner), Chicken Pasta (thumbs up, I say add the cheese sauce and tobasco),Sloppy Joe (2XThumbs up pretty much like manwhich),Buffalo Chicken (So-so), Chicken and Dumplings (must be eaten hot), Beef Patty (Loves it me it tastes exactly like the old canned C-Rat beef patties I wonder if they’re still made by Alpo?).

    Fruits/Desserts:
    Both of us like these,
Raisins, Dried cranberries, Applesauce, Raspberry Applesauce, Mango/Peach Applesauce, Pears, Pineapple chunks, peanuts, almonds, vanilla or chocolate pudding, cheese pretzels, cheese crackers, cheese and crackers,

    Breakfast Bars:

Pop Tarts (or reasonable facsimile), ‘Ranger Bars’ (caramel apple, chocolate covered chocolate chip and cran-apple), ‘First Strike Bars’ (Chocolate, Apple Cinnamon),
    Beverages:

Powdered Milkshakes (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Strawberry-Banana (only good if ice cold water available), Apple Cider, Orange, Lemon Lime, Fruit Punch, Lemonade and raspberry drink mixes (some include electrolyte and carbs), coffee, mocha, cappucino.
    Candies:
Skittles, M&Ms (or facsimiles) fruit disks (like fruit rollups only smaller), chocolate covered coffee beans.

That’s just some of what’s in current MREs. All in all not bad and much better than the originals or even the Desert Storm ones.

You know, I heard that works better. :-)

Seriously, the old T-10s caused most of my injuries early in my career as they weren’t made to hold a 180lb man carrying 125-140lbs of gear. The later MC-1 and MC-1B chutes were better and the MT-1 was an improvement too. Later the MC-5, CT-6 made other improvements, but still, jumping in full battle rattle is not exactly gentle, but then neither is fast roping or Aussie rapelling. All will get you there but a lot depends on the tactical situation. For instance a helicopter insertion would have been foolhardy in Afghanistan on 22 Sep. 2001. But a parachute insertion made perfect sense.

Thanks, Michelle, for all you do.

May God bless and protect our country, and always watch over our troops this year.

    Thanks for the update.

The best thing about a UH-60 was the ability to haul an intact squad with all of the extra things you describe. Made C&C much cleaner at the DZ/PZ.

Other than the Chicken ala King (god awful) even the pre-Desert Storm MRE’s were good (I eat most anything)and the changes post DS were excellent.

However, today’s selections sound like a marked improvement over even those. Good, as food is important for much more than nutrition.

Thank your son for his service. He obviously has good blood lines. :)

    “But a parachute insertion”

You can insert a parachute? Is that more effective than water boarding?
