My Predictions for New Year’s Day:

I will spend most of the day taking down Christmas decorations.

I will say and repeat: Where does THIS go?

I will say and repeat: Where did I put THAT?

I will say and repeat: Never again will I eat two cheese balls, one box of Ritz crackers, a whole Summer Sausage and one pound cake at one sitting. I have SAYING IT down pat.

Happy New Year good people. Stay Brave, Stay Free.

Just got back from food store. Wife can’t resist black-eyed peas on sale. We decided that some hot beef stew and homemade biscuits would be good for dinner tonight. Got the fireplace going and waiting for the Ohio State game. Not a fan, but my son-in-law and 2 good friends are enthusiatic fans, so I have to watch, of course. Wishing you all a good New Year…profitable and free. Most of all I’d like to thank Michelle for a great news site. Keep up the work in telling the truth.

I,m looking forward to January 4, 2010. Early results from the Kepler Telescope mission will be announced at the 215th national meeting of the American Astronomical Society. The Kepler Mission is designed to observe 100,000 stars simultaneously, using a NASA space telescope designed to discover Earth-like planets.

There is nearby planet that orbits a red dwarf star. Astronomers suspect it may be a waterworld.

I don’t believe the pundits have it right this time when they say that, should the economy improve, which it won’t, then the healthcare bill recently crammed down our throats will be better accepted.

This is our personal lives at stake. So, I plan to do my best to take part in the political slaughter of those who’ve chosen to be enemies of America.

Most guys my age have very limited body control, They can’t stop running without crashing into something, don’t change direction very well and can’t jump straight up and down. And then there are the ever flailing elbows as they try to maintain their balance.

I don’t play much basketball anymore, very rarely with guys over 40 and only if I know they can play. Injuries are the bane of staying in shape at my age (56). It is especially irksome getting injured because of incompetent dog owners or guys can’t accept that they just can’t play anymore.

Speaking of thanking retired military, I had the honor of spending the first four days of this week with 15 of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen and their families (part of my Tournament of Roses duties). Great bunch of guys and they were the best of the best in their day too. Too bad it took 60 years to give them the recognition they deserve.

I might post something on my until now once-used blog this weekend if I can make it interesting enough. Pictures included. Stay tuned if interested. It might be the first installment of my “Living in the Reflected Glory of Other People” series.

Nope. There are lots of great stories about these guys including being POWs in Germany. I got a good one from one of them that I’ll be posting about (if I post).

Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous New Year. Blessings to all and especially our military serving around the world. Best wishes for your retirement DocFlash. :)

Have eaten black eyed peas and cornbread since I was a kid on New Year’s Eve. That hasn’t worked out so well lately – changed over to tamales, rice and beans this year! I miss the black eyed peas!

We’ve come a long way since my first wife made her seventh year of survival.

God be with you throughout your battle and make the treatments effective and hold you in his mercy. I hope and pray too that your family and friends will support you throughout and that you emerge victorious in this battle.

UH-1 is officially retired now. But I’d rather jump than fly anything where if the rear wall of the pax compartment isn’t wet and pink, you’d best kiss your sweet self goodbye unless you’ve enough altitude to autorotate (never in most tactical situations).
I like the Blackhawk, but sometimes she’s not the way to get into somewhere really hot and nasty.

Besides, a long time ago before Reagan, the $55/mo or later $110/mo made life tolerable for a Soldier and kept his family barely off foodstamps.

    ssnark,

Just found the article on the Huey’s retirement in October 2009.
    Times change.

If the guy in the left seat had a patch on his right shoulder and it was a Huey, I never gave a thought to my safety. That combination could fly in and out of an LZ through anything man or natire could throw at it.

I am sure today’s soldiers feel that way about the UH-60.
