The Hill reports this morning that the Dems have formally agreed to bypass the formal conference committee process to ram the government health care plan through for Barack Obama: “Aides said the agreement was reached during a Tuesday evening meeting at the White House with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the top two Democrats from each chamber…After huddling among themselves at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, House leaders will return to the White House for a 2:30 p.m. meeting with the president and Senate Democratic leaders.” Behind closed doors. It’s the Vampire Congress way.

Meet the Beltway bloodsuckers. They convene in the dead of night, when most ordinary mortals have left work, let their guard down, or are lying asleep in bed. Pale-faced and insatiable, the nocturnal thieves do their nefarious business in backrooms and secret chambers. Their primary victims? Taxpayers, the free market, and deliberative democracy.
Democrat leaders have been promising the most ethical, transparent, open, and engaged administration for years. Instead, they have delivered a bleak and creepy legislative environment that could double as a Twilight movie set. House Democrat leaders forbade debate on all but one amendment not authored by themselves. Skulking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rammed the government health care takeover package through under cover of darkness before Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Senate Finance Committee killed a GOP amendment that would have required Demcare to be available online for 72 hours before the committee voted. Reid and his Volterra–style henchmen cut last minute Cash-for-Cloture deals behind closed doors.
And now House and Senate Democrat leaders are reportedly preparing to cut dissenters out of the reconciliation process by bypassing the formal conference committee.
In Hill parlance, this legislative short-cut is called “ping-ponging.” A better game analogy: Dodgeball. With mounting opposition from both conservative Republicans and progressive Democrats, President Obama’s water-carriers must use every trick in the book to speed the final merging and passage of the bill before the end of the month.
The hypocrisy reeks stronger than rotting garlic. In 2006, House Democrats asserted that “House-Senate conferences are a critical part of the deliberative process because they produce the final legislative product that will become the law of the land.” That same year, Harry Reid railed on the Senate floor against informal deal-making that circumvented the conference committee process – and he attacked the use of manager’s amendments to avoid public scrutiny:
“Of course, nobody can see the managers’ amendment. It is composed of over 40 amendments. How could anyone vote for a piece of legislation such as that — a managers’ amendment with 42 separate amendments? Now, these amendments were not put in a conference committee. People complain about that. But at least in a conference committee, you have people working together, sticking things in…Here, you have one person making a decision as to what is going to be in the managers’ amendment. There is no way to know what is in it.”
But four years later, it was Reid who snuck his 383-page manager’s amendment – stuffed with payoffs, special breaks, and concessions on health care – into the Senate hopper on the Saturday before Christmas break. Four years later, it is Reid stifling the open, collaboratively conference committee process he so fiercely championed.
Where’s Barack Obama? As a candidate, he promised repeatedly to broadcast legislative negotiations on C-SPAN “so that the American people can see what the choices are” and “so that the public will be part of the conversation and will see the choices that are being made.” But the most transparent presidential administration ever is shrugging its shoulders. On Tuesday, White House spokesmen Robert Gibbs pooh-poohed C-SPAN’s request to allow electronic media coverage of the Demcare negotiations.
Instead, Gibbs thinks Americans should be grateful for what they got last month: “The Senate did a lot of their voting at 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning on C-SPAN.And I think if you watched that debate — I don’t know — I wasn’t up at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning for a lot of those votes, but I think if the American public had watched…you’d have seen quite a bit of public hearing and public airing.” And if you missed the middle-of-the-night broadcasts, tough noogies.
Team Obama’s contempt for meaningful transparency has been on display from Day One. A year ago this month, President Obama broke his vaunted open government pledge with the very first bill he signed into law. On January 29, 2009, the White House boasted that Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act had been posted online for review. Except: Obama had already signed it – in violation of his “sunlight before signing” pledge to post legislation for public comment on the White House website five days before he sealed any deal.
From the stimulus to the health care takeover to holiday bailouts for bankrupt financial behemoths Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, it’s been all backrooms and blackouts ever since. The Prince of Darkness at 1600 Pennsylvania is perfectly happy with his Vampire Congress. Wraiths of a sunshine-evading feather flock together.

If Progressive, Liberal, Blue Dog, whatever democrats are truly so upset with the process, as they say they are, then they have the simple expedient of voting No on the bill. What could be easier? But in fact, they are only complaining so that they themselves can get some goodies just like everybody else. That’s it. So there is no effective opposition anywhere to this monstrosity. None. Even if a sufficient number of democrats were found to block passage, it would be trivial for Obama to gather enough RINOs to do the job. I wish 2010 marked the last of the BOHICAns, but it’s not. The BOHICAns always win.

But the most fascinating thing is it isn’t just ‘delete’. More importantly the concept of ‘ignore’ means that nothing ever happened anyway (like the town hall protests in August).
Who cares what anyone says. If I disagree, delete and ignore. It’s how this country was founded.

I believe a huge part of the answer to your question is that so damn many of those who vote for the socialists are tax eaters – including members of multigenerational welfare families, and immigrants and their descendants who refuse to assimilate; why the hell should they care if taxes go up and up and up? So many of them do not, and never will, pay income tax.
The socialists’ voters also include the very wealthy elite, who have so much goddamned money that they don’t have to blink an eye at tax increases. Remember: it is mainly income that is taxed; wealth is not taxed, except in property taxes and death/inheritance taxes;
where, again, the elite rich either don’t have to care (property taxes are a piddling number to them), or they are able to spend not inconsiderable chunks of money for accountants and attorneys to navigate the maze of tax laws and avoid/minimize wealth transfer…ever wonder why attorneys and accountants lobby against tax system simplification?
We suckers in the middle, the workers, the producers, the taxpayers, whether middle class, or upper-middle-class “Henrys” (High Earner Not Rich Yet – AKA “The Wannabe Rich”, get screwed paying the bulk of the taxes extorted from us – ultimately, at the point of a gun – by big government.
As Jesus said and Lincoln referenced, Mark 3:25 – “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”

Is there a site where we can check/support the legal aspects of repealing or defanging this monster, and will the Tea Party consider supporting a National Tax Strike? Simply voting Dems out after they’ve already made such (unrepairable?) damage is not enough. If a government absolutely refuses to be accountable to the people, and defeat legitimate democratic elections through fraud or outright repression, than the people at some point must choose either slavery or armed rebellion.
Diluting the native population, like Labour did in the UK, or like all Demonrats and more than a few Republicans are trying to do here, because the native population has a tradition of freedom and liberty, is one way to attempt to prevent armed rebellion.

Obama is a liar. He lies during the campaign to get votes. He lies as President to confuse the electorate. He lies straight to our face and the media barely challenges him because they want his policies to succeed. In this case, they support socialized health care and will not undermine the process by exposing the lies.
How is it that allowing liars to lie on a grand scale is good for the public good?
Pelosi lies about the CIA, Reid lies about his payoff to Senators for votes. Obama lies about the health care bill.
These guys fully expect the economy to rebound right in time for the November 2010 election. They have stimulus money available to spend and prop up the country so they can claim their policies are working. Another lie. Another deception. Business have already tanked and slimmed down for these bad economic times as much as they possibly can. The only way left for most that have retrenched is to go out of business or to grow a little bit. Obama will claim the credit for any improvement but takes no responsibility for the decline.
If I take a business with 1000 employees and layoff 200 leaving 800 employees, then I hire 100 back so I have 900 employees, how is that a success again? 100 people or 10% are still out of work.
Nancy Pelosi is beginning to look like she could be a back-up drummer for the Rolling Stones. I’d like to see someone gifted with Photoshop do that picture.

C-SPAN ought to set up a camera on Pennsylvania Ave with a static shot of the White House and broadcast that for 24 hours with the subtitle “Live Coverage of the Health Care Takeover.”
Of course, they could/would change the subtitle, but I think the message of a silent, static shot of the White House from the street would be a good one.

At least you didn’t make a movie that depicts his “theoretical” assassination; since it’s him, you would be investigated as a potential threat, unlike the people who made that movie about bush. I believe that you:
(1) Know Obama lies blatantly and repeatedly.
(2) Support the Rule of Law
(3) Believe the President is not above the law.
(4) Are against Amnesty.
(5) Expect the law, especially the law established during the 1986 Amnesty, to be fully enforced and not ignored.
So please help me understand why then you don’t seem to care about enforcing the Immigration Reform and Control Act (signed by President Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986)?
Why don’t you seem to care about requiring Barack Obama to meet the requirements of that law?
Why don’t you expect Obama to produce the legally required documentation for a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification?
You will note that neither a newspaper birth announcement nor public statements by Dr. Fukino qualify as acceptable proof of identity and employment authorization.
You know Obama lies. So why do you trust the COLB that was produced at and by the Obama campaign headquarters? That COLB was never shown to any government official and was never authenticated by the State of Hawaii.
Dr. Fukino’s statements were carefully parsed, and reviewed by the Hawaiian AG. Since the conclusions of the AG’s opinion were used to make a public statement, Hawaiian law requires that the AG’s opinion also be made public. Yet that opinion is kept secret. Doesn’t that seem a bit “fishy” to you?
Why do you trust Obama on this issue? Why don’t you expect due diligence and respect for the rule of law? Obama must produce the documents required for an I-9 form. He hasn’t. He is breaking the law… specifically the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
This isn’t a “tinfoil hat” issue. It’s a legal issue.
And beyond that, even if Obama were to release an original birth certificate from the Hawaiian Department of Health, there is still the Constitutional question of whether someone born a subject of another country (Obama was, due to the fact that his father was a British subject) can be considered a “natural born Citizen” of the United States of America. That issue will likely have to be addressed by the judicial branch via a Quo Warranto case in the D.C. Circuit.
Again, there are two separate issues:
1) Enforcement of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
2) Clarification and enforcement of the Constitutional requirement that the President be a “natural born Citizen”.
Please help me understand, Michelle, why you don’t seem interested in either of these two issues.

No sense pushing Michelle on this. Most public figures see conspiracy theories as a sure way to lose credibility. That does not mean they don’t believe some of them.
I just state it this way. The Democratic Party is a conspiracy. They have a STATED goal of being the ONLY political party running the US for the next 20 years. You can bet they will do ANYTHING they can to make sure they will not have to run for office in 2010 or 2012.

How much more of this crap are the American people going to put up with. It is time to take our country back from these thieves. If these politicians can’t live up to their oath of office they should be put in jail. When I join the military I took an oath, and if I didn’t live up to it I would be put in the brig, it’s time we did that to these corrupt politicians.

Why should Obama be allowed to break the law? He shouldn’t.
