Ok, just so y'all know - that was the APOD image for April 1, 2005

Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is originated, written, coordinated, and edited since 1995 by Robert Nemiroff and Jerry Bonnell. The APOD archive contains the largest collection of annotated astronomical images on the internet.

This is certainly one of the most essential web sites to visit for anyone interested in astronomy - especially kids.

It's good to know that even though NASA wastes billions of dollars on the AGW hoax, they still do a few good things here and there.

Alaskans always seem to strip away the B.S. and get right to the point. And when it is dark much of the day, you need something to distract and amuse, and politics are followed almost like a sport. LoL! Having had lived in Fairbanks for almost 2 decades, I love this story. Both the Compeau and Gavora families are well known and long time residents. I see a number of weather related comments here and I just looked at the Fairbanks weather forcast. It is 15 degrees there right now. Weather trivia: When it is unusually cold here in the Lower 48, it is always warm (By local standards anyway) in interior Alaska. Al could last in front of Thrifty Liquor until March before taking on the appearance of a Salvadore Dali-esque appearance and finally being reduced to a puddle.

It's 2 degrees right now on my patio. We usually get about one week of single digit temps in January on the eastern slope in Colorado. Except that we had a week like that in Dec. and also Nov., now that's unusual.

1) create an enemy: global warming
2) Pass laws, taxes and restrictions to combat enemy, to "look like they care".
3) People, too late, realize the loss of liberty/freedom, with the enemy still present and government all powerful.
