“Green Jobs” = SEIU/Union Jobs
As if you needed more evidence of the boondoggle-ishness of the Green Jobs racket, two items for your file:
1) Via Inside Charm City, Maryland’s Democrat Senators dole out green job funding to an SEIU partnership…
Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes funding for job training in renewable and energy efficient industries in Maryland through the Department of Labor (DOL).
This $4.6 million ARRA grant has been awarded H-CAP, Inc to provide enhanced skills training to job seekers and entry-level environmental service workers for new and emerging green jobs in the healthcare industry. The project will operate in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Prince George’s County in Maryland, as well as counties in New York, California and the District of Columbia.
“This Partnership is funded with recovery dollars and it is an investment in our future – a future in which our state and nation will become more energy efficient and independent and one that will create new, green jobs that will help grow our economy,” said Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Budget Committee.
“This funding is exactly what the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act is all about – creating and sustaining jobs today and preparing for the jobs of tomorrow,” Senator Mikulski said. “This grant will give Marylanders the opportunity to get the training they need to find and keep a job, while also helping to make sure that health care in Maryland is environmentally friendly.”
H-CAP, Inc. will partner with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in Maryland as well as Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), a coalition that promotes environmentally-friendly healthcare practices, to train approximately 3,000 job seekers. The project will also develop new curricula that will cover the role of environmental service workers in green healthcare, the development of cross-industry green jobs and green career pathways for entry-level workers.
2) Via Morgen at Verum Serum, a closer look at the latest round of Big Labor’s green pork grant recipients:
Yesterday the Department of Labor announced the release of $100M in grants funded by the stimulus bill to “support green job training programs to help dislocated workers and others, including veterans, women, African Americans and Latinos, find jobs in expanding green industries and related occupations”.
This is only a portion of the $500M total allocated by the stimulus bill for such purposes. Back in November an initial $55 million in grants were released, the bulk of which went to state-run job training programs, with relatively small amounts going to community job training programs.
However, the primary recipients of the latest $100M in grants are a little more noteworthy:
* UAW Labor Employment and Training Corporation – $3,200,000
* 1199SEIU Family of Funds (disguised as “HCAP, Inc.”) -$4,637,551
* Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), AFLCIO – $4,993,922
* International Transportation Learning Center (whose board consists almost exclusively of union leaders) – $5,000,000
* International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association – $5,000,000
* Institute for Career Development (aka United Steelworkers) – $4,658,983
* Blue Green Alliance (whose members consist largely of unions) – $5,000,000
* Communications Workers of America – $3,969,056
* Thomas Shortman Training Scholarship and Safety Fund (SEIU) – $2,802,269

The national discussion about health care is coming to some local pulpits.
Religion leaders at some area churches plan to preach or otherwise advocate this weekend about the need for health-care reform.
Dubbed the “Reverent Call to Health Care” Sunday, the effort is organized by Indiana Change that Works, the AFL-CIO and the NAACP. Change That Works, which is now a separate non-profit advocacy organization, originally was created by the Service Employees International Union to gain support for President Obama’s health care reform plan and other initiatives.
Sunday’s event is an interfaith effort designed to bring attention to the need for reform, a group of ministers announced today at a news conference at First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
“We stand united in the cause of human advancement in the area of health care,” said the Rev. Timothy Rouse, the church’s pastor. Rouse, a Democrat, also is a member of the South Bend Common Council.

Yes, I worry that the jobs of tomorrow will be entry-level service jobs…
all of them soon to be outsourced to china or other 3rd world country as a cost saving strategy by which ever company gets the gooberment contract!
What??? What the heck is a green healthcare job? Is it some know-it-all who will try to make patients and doctors aware of how the operation could impact CO2 and climate change? Does it involve educating people on how overpopulation is hurting mother nature—>encourage abortions/euthanasia,…? This kind of designation: “Green Healthcare” makes no sense.
Well this is good to get about 100 people hired with all that money! That is how our wonderful dc bunch gives taxpayers money out with such great numbers of jobs to show for it. This money is going into the checking accounts of unions to help get the d’s re-elected.

The phrase “green pork” made me feel like throwing up, and then I thought about what it metaphorically means (government “pork” for “green” union jobs) and the feeling just got worse!
Green Healthcare = operating in the dark? Goodbye to disposable needles, gloves, medical supplies,…? One thing I am certain of: the only true green thing about these jobs is the green dollar river flowing into the pockets of politicians and their friends.

I remain puzzled over what someone could mean by combining the words green and healthcare. So I did a google search with this word combination. I found the site which essentially repeats many of Obama’s talking points about global health, green energy,…blah blah blah. Aside from these meaningless slogans, there is very little in terms of what specifics these groups advocate. I found a picture of an electronic thermometer with the slogan; “Moving towards a mercury free health care.” So I said: Ok, these idiots don’t realize that Mercury in thermometers is not absorbable and they probably don’t consider the environmental cost of batteries. But there is very little specific information about what such a group would actually do. There is, of course, a very evident button titled “DONATE NOW.” The term: “Green Healthcare” is meaningless. I bet this is just another slush fund where taxpayer money is being diverted. Another posiblity is that this is a scam website set up to take money from good intentioned idiots. I am not sure if there is all that much of a difference between these two choices.

Michelle, when you equated green jobs=siue/union jobs this already meant to you that this is some sort of a scam operation where no actual jobs would be created. If this is the case forgive my ignorance. If not, then please develop this story further. There is no such thing as a “green job healthcare sector.” The website advertising global health and safety initiative is an obvious scam. If this scam reaches into the White House, the MSM will never expose it. Please dig deeper into this story.

Green healthcare jobs involve eliminating CO2 emissions from patients. It’s also called ObamaCare.
That would entail everyone stop exhaling CO2. I vote the liberals try it first and then if it works, us doubters can try it. But if the greenies all stop breathing and it doesn’t help AGW, those of us left can look for other solutions.

Seems to me that there is a current job description that would equate to ‘green healthcare worker’. It would be someone trained in the science of the sorting, removal, and recycling of medical components in a manner consistant with caring for the environment. Currently we refer to these people as ‘sanitary engineers’.
Well, well, well…isn’t this just typical? All the Maryland jobs go to areas which are Democrat strongholds.
Meanwhile, the agriculture industry which places like the Eastern Shore depend on – TRUE green jobs – gets the short end of the stick once again.

I’m not sure that it rises to the level of propaganda, as it doesn’t really promote any particular idea.
All it really does is to disguise — very slightly — some of Red Hussein’s handouts. To pretend that they are somehow useful to the country at large.
The people we have in DC now are largely plain criminals.
