Dem leader who compared Republicans to slavemasters referred to “light-skinned” Obama and “Negro dialect;” Obama accepts apology, praises Reid on “social justice”

It was just last month that Dingy Harry Reid likened Republicans who oppose the government health care to proponents of slavery.

Who’s the real RAAAAAAACIST?

The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate apologized on Saturday for comments he made about Barack Obama’s race during the 2008 presidential bid and are quoted in a yet-to-be-released book about the campaign.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Barack Obama as “light skinned” and “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” Obama is the nation’s first African-American president.

“I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments,” Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic.

Go ahead. Blame Bush for this, buddy. Go right ahead.

Tea Party-basher Janeane Garofalo and her ilk spent the last year lambasting conservatives as racists. Where are they now?

Time to rethink that pledge not to pull a Dodd, eh, Harry?

After hitting a new low in a state poll, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid dismissed speculation that he would pull a Dodd — and follow in the footsteps of Democratic colleague Christopher Dodd, who announced his retirement this week in the face of a losing re-election bid.

After hitting a new low in a state poll, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid dismissed speculation that he would pull a Dodd — and follow in the footsteps of Democratic colleague Christopher Dodd, who announced his retirement this week in the face of a losing re-election bid.

“I am absolutely running for re-election,” the Nevada Democrat told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which commissioned a new poll that found more than half of Nevadans are unhappy with his performance.

“These are difficult times for Nevada and as the majority leader of the Senate, I have been able to take action to address those challenges,” he said Friday in a statement. “But I know there is more work to do to turn our state’s economy around and create jobs and I am committed to seeing it through.”

Famous last words?

Question 1 : Will the Washington Post devote as much ink to Reid’s racial comments as they did to George Allen’s “Macaca” moment?

Question 2: Trent Lott resigned his leadership post over his birthday party pandering in praise of Strom Thurmond’s racial segregationist presidential platform. Many conservatives (myself included) put pressure on him to resign. Where are the “progressive” Democrats who will apply the same standards to Reid?

Via The Hill: Obama accepts Reid’s apology.

Obama said in a statement that he accepted Reid’s apology.

“Harry Reid called me today and apologized for an unfortunate comment reported today,” Obama said. “I accepted Harry’s apology without question because I’ve known him for years, I’ve seen the passionate leadership he’s shown on issues of social justice and I know what’s in his heart. As far as I am concerned, the book is closed.”

Good point via Allahpundit: “Obama’s already accepted Reid’s apology. How come he didn’t accept Imus’s?”

Remember how quick Obama was to condemn the Cambridge police for “acting stupidly?”

As for a man attempting to speak “woman,” in my home any man who attempts to speak “woman” gets an A for effort and is nicely rewarded.

In May 2007, the rev-rend al Sharpton said, (among other slurs about Mitt Romney & Mormons) “What is bigoted about asking . . . about a denomination based on racism?” Well, rev-rend al Sharpton, Harry Reid is a Mormon also, and according to your viewpoint – Harry Reid & all Mormons are Raaaaacists!

Dem hypocrisy – there’s nothing new under the sun!

This whole thing bothers me. I don’t think Reid is a true racist. Yet we are all over him for making 1 comment, and doing the exact thing many of us condemned the left for doing (ie finding racism in every comment). We are perpetuating and encouraging more of these ridiculous thin-skinned “racists” charges. Yea, the left are a bunch of hypocrites. That will never change. But I am sick of the race card being thrown out on everything. Stop being so thin skinned, and at a minimum minorities should have to live by the same race rules as whites.
