Brown picks up Boston Herald endorsement, $626,000+ $1 million+ raised online today; C-SPAN airs debate tonight

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 11, 2010 05:17 PM

The Boston Herald urges Massachusetts taxpayers to vote for hope and change:

Sometimes one vote can make a difference – especially if it’s one vote on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

If you love what’s going on in Washington, well, then by all means vote for Martha Coakley. She’s a perfectly nice person, and she won’t make a dime’s worth of difference in the balance of power in Washington.

But if you’re not happy with the status quo, if you think the way business is being conducted on Capitol Hill today is a disgrace and an affront to taxpayers, then you probably agree it’s time for a change.

Scott Brown can single-handedly deliver on that kind of change and the Herald is pleased to endorse his candidacy in the race for U.S. Senate.

Brown talks about being the “41st senator,” adding to Republican ranks and depriving Democrats of the “supermajority” which has allowed them to ride roughshod over the nation’s agenda. But he would go to Washington as his own man – and as ours, beholden to no one, except Massachusetts voters.

The Brown campaign’s online moneybomb fundraising effort that I mentioned this morning has surpassed its $500,000 goal and had crossed the $625,000 threshold late this afternoon.

C-SPAN will air the final debate between Coakley and Brown tonight at 7pm Eastern. Go here.

As @golfer6266 tweets: “Scott Brown makes a point of it not being Ted Kennedy’s seat but the People of Massachusetts’ seat.”

True that.

***

Darn, no reverse Midas touch: “Obama has no plans to campaign for Coakley.”

Update: Wow. Brown’s final online fundraising tally today — $1 million+.

The Herald endorses Republicans all the time. It endorsed McCain in 2008 and Bush in 2004.

I really think there is a chance… Romney won a statewide election there; its not impossible. And winning in Mass. isn’t too much more of a stretch than winning in New Jersey – and the NJ Gov. election wasn’t really even all that close.

$693k, up $8,000 in the time it too for me to write this post. Good luck at becoming the 41st vote, Scott!

Perhaps. I don’t know. All I am saying is that they seem to have a history of endorsing Republicans. Which is fine. But don’t let yourself get too worked up about interpreting an endorsement from The Herald and S.P.A.M. as a sign of changing political tides in MA.

AG Coakley is a criminal-coddling, Democrat mouthpiece, tax-and-spend liberal lemming in the truest sense of the word. She smiles, but look at how her eyes betray her. There is literally N.O.T.H.I.N.G. about her candidacy that has been truthful or compelling. Someone in her sanctum told her, “Look, just close the windows, shut the doors, and keep quiet and this seat is yours!” And that is exactly what she has done throughout this entire campaign (her self titled “coronation” tour). The disrespect she has shown the thinking voters of this state is astonishing. Yet, she’ll still probably win. A thought that literally makes me sick to my stomach.

She also brushed aside criticism that she has been trying to run out the clock in the campaign by being less visible as a candidate.’
