Da bomb: Brown reportedly raises $1 million a day this week; Cook also moves race to “Toss-Up;” Update: New poll: Brown-50, Coakley-46

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 14, 2010 06:20 PM

Well, this sure takes some of the sting out of that thorough waste of national GOP money dumped into Big Labor Republican Dede Scozzafava’s NY-23 bid!

Who needs Beltway Republicans to decide where best to send money? Do. It. Yourself.

Alex Pappas of Tucker Carlson’s new Daily Caller reports:

Knowledgeable sources in Massachusetts tell The Daily Caller that Republican candidate for Senate, Scott Brown, has raised at least $1 million dollars every day this week, most of it online.

Although Brown’s campaign touted Monday’s money-bomb fundraiser that brought in $1.3 million dollars, the campaign declined to confirm totals for other days this week.

“I can’t comment on figures,” said spokesman Felix Browne.

I can: WOW.

***

Following in Rothenberg’s steps, the Cook Political Report has also now moved the race to the “Toss-Up” category.

***

Update: From the Boston Herald tonight…more WOW…

Riding a wave of opposition to Democratic health-care reform, GOP upstart Scott Brown is leading in the U.S. Senate race, raising the odds of a historic upset that would reverberate all the way to the White House, a new poll shows.

Although Brown’s 4-point lead over Democrat Martha Coakley is within the Suffolk University/7News survey’s margin of error, the underdog’s position at the top of the results stunned even pollster David Paleologos.

“It’s a Brown-out,” said Paleologos, director of Suffolk’s Political Research Center. “It’s a massive change in the political landscape.”

The poll shows Brown, a state senator from Wrentham, besting Coakley, the state’s attorney general, by 50 percent to 46 percent, the first major survey to show Brown in the lead. Unenrolled long-shot Joseph L. Kennedy, an information technology executive with no relation to the famous family, gets 3 percent of the vote. Only 1 percent of voters were undecided.

Paleologos said bellweather models show high numbers of independent voters turning out on election day, which benefits Brown, who has 65 percent of that bloc compared to Coakley’s 30 percent. Kennedy earns just 3 percent of the independent vote, and 1 percent are undecided.

Given the 4.4-point margin of error, the poll shows Coakley could win the race, Paleologos said. But if Brown’s momentum holds, he is poised to succeed the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy – and to halt health-care reform, the issue the late senator dubbed “the cause of my life.”

Yet even in the bluest state, it appears Kennedy’s quest for universal health care has fallen out of favor, with 51 percent of voters saying they oppose the “national near-universal health-care package” and 61 percent saying they believe the government cannot afford to pay for it.

The poll, conducted Monday through Wednesday, surveyed 500 registered likely voters who knew the date of Tuesday’s election. It shows Brown leading all regions of the state except Suffolk County.

    Did you see this:

Most of the 16,000 contributors who are responsible for Republican Scott Brown banking $1.3 million in campaign bucks on Monday for his Massachusetts Senate campaign came from grass roots donors averaging $77.89 a donation, his campaign said.

Obviously some were much smaller, and some much larger, but the average is a good indicator of the number of individual donors.

    1) contribute to the Scott Brown campaign

    2) volunteer at the local call center

    3) do stand-outs, holding up campaign signs in town centers and outside the polling places on day of the election

I get GREAT feedback from people driving by, honking, waving and giving the thumbs up!

You can tell the Coakley drivers – they try to slink past without making eye contact, looking ashamed.

Same with making phone calls to get out the vote: Brown supporters are enthusiastic and eager to tell me they are supporting Scott. The Coakley supporters almost all say that they are undecided and need to think about it some more – at this late date in the election. Almost no one says they are voting for her – like the drivers they seem ashamed. Just my 2 cents.

RWR, consider something; for decades here in Massachusetts many [ if not most] seats, from the local level on up, have been held by Democrats who are uncontested in the elections.

Now the conservatives are energized, encouraged by this one amazing race to take the senate seat that the Dems persist in referring to as the Kennedy seat (remember it was held by JFK, and a seat warmer was put there to hold it till Teddy could come of age to run for it).

We’re hearing now of conservatives who are planning to run against other entrenched Democrats – some of them ‘conservative’ enough even for you. ;-)

That’s what we’ve been praying for, a real awakening among the voters, and among potential candidates.

Then you can trust that the Dems will steal money from those who work for it, so they can give it to you. Oh,…. and keep a sizable chucnk for themselves. Sufficiently laundered of course.

They will hear – loud and clear.

    Still doesn’t mean they’ll listen.

Maybe. Senate will not seat without certification. Mass. can’t certify until 15 days after election. And that is only IF there is a clear cut winner (though the recount rules in Mass. definitely favor Brown).

Apparently a deal on the HCR bill will come today. They will send it to the CBO to be scored, so…they could have the cloture vote within a couple weeks. It would be close.

RWR, consider something; for decades here in Massachusetts many [ if not most] seats, from the local level on up, have been held by Democrats who are uncontested in the elections.

I’m not saying this is a bad thing.

What IS a bad thing is the way this guy is being portrayed as the second coming of Ronald Reagan when he’s nothing of the sort. This is not a good thing. Conservative voters are in for a huge disappointment if they think Scott Brown is going to act like a conservative once he gets to DC.

I do want him to win, but my reasoning lies in the weakness of the Libertarian and the liberalness of Masachusetts in general. I sincerely think Scott Brown is the best Massachusetts is going to do. I do not think Croaky will bring about the kind of vigorous Constitutionalism that Obama has (and boy has he ever – Thank God!). She’s just too small a voice. Not that it’s impossible, but your chances of moving Massachusetts to the right are much better with Scott Brown.

Now the conservatives are energized … We’re hearing now of conservatives who are planning to run against other entrenched Democrats – some of them ‘conservative’ enough even for you. ;-)

Good, but only in the sense that conservatives are energized for their own good as opposed to the good of the Massachusetts voter. If conservatives can finally make some moves as a result of Scott Brown’s candidacy, great. I’m all for it. I do see this, and it’s part of the reason I support Scott despite the huge reservations I have about him once in office.

You know the old saying: a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Indeed it does. Make sure it’s a sober and sure step, though.

And we’re taking it with our eyes wide open.

This part I can’t honestly say I agree with. What I see is this step being taken blindly by people who want us to believe that the LOTE vote is right in and of itself – that you should vote for Scott Brown even if you think Joe Kennedy or Martha Croakhead is better for the job. I moved on from this thinking when I realized that capitalist progressivism is just as bad in most ways as fascist/socialist progressivism. The point isn’t how to finance your progressivism, it’s the progressivism itself. It is wrong for America and needs to be stopped, regardless of its means.

Get all excited and energized, by all means, but don’t pervert the Tea Party movement by pretending Scott Brown is part of it or some great conservative. He’s neither.

soap, I missed your link to the update earlier; thanks. I’ll pass that along. I’ve already heard back from friends that they’ve made donations, and I know that they’re praying.

Our pastor has sent out an e-mail to our congregation about the special collect we’ll be taking Sunday; we work most closely with World Vision, which has people on the ground there in Haiti too.

But as important as the money, we will be praying together as a congregation for everyone there in Haiti, and for those who have loved ones there.

    Blessings.

That is a bald faced lie; no one has said any such thing.

Ironically it’s the Democrats that are portraying Scott as a die-hard conservative.

…don’t pervert the Tea Party movement…

Who’s perverting it? For the record, libertarians [or 'constitutionalists' - however you care to define them] don’t own the tea party movement.

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s been American citizens of every political party – or some who claim no affiliation – who have mobilized to put a stop to the massive government screw-job that’s going on in Washington – and on Beacon Hill.

That’s the tea party movement. Scott’s as much a part of that as any of us.

Just when I though you might be a bit of alright, you had to go and make statements like those. Sheesh.
