Pre-Jan. 19 Obama: Scott Brown is an ogre. Post-Jan. 19 Obama: Hey, Scott Brown’s just like me!

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 20, 2010 03:16 PM

Yep, that was the spin out of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs’ mouth this afternoon.

Just a few short days ago, President Obama was up in Massachusetts mocking Brown’s truck and casting him as a fat-cat crony of Wall Street.

Today? Gibbs asserted with a straight face that the same kind of “anger” that brought Obama into office also buoyed Brown’s candidacy.

See? Brown’s voters are just like Obama’s. Brown’s win is Obama’s win. Black is white. Up is down. Ignorance equals strength.

Oh, yeah: And elections have consequences.

Since the president is also stricken with paralysis, maybe he should go back to the Illinois state senate and let someone with actual governing experience become our president. They may lie quiet for a very very brief time, but they will try another power grab soon. This was not a rebuke of health care, this was about Americans telling the government to back off. Now is not the time to back off and let the socialists regroup. KEEP THIS PARTY GOING!!! All the way till we rid ourselves of these would be dictators and usurpers.

Let’s count the ways in which Brown differs from Obama:
    1. He’s Republican

    4. His Selective Service records are available
    5. His birth certificate is (probably) available, but not in doubt
    6. He owns a truck
    7. He owns a house he didn’t have to buy with aid from Dem bundlers and shady real estate developers under investigation
    8. He received campaign donations from within the United States
    9. He did not campaign on vague platitudes, nor race, nor religion, but rather a very specific promise to solidly defeat one of the worst bills to ever be brought forth from the US Congress
    10. He did not campaign in “all 57 states”
    11. He demonstrates humility and servitude to the people of his State
    12. His State Congress records are available
    13. He’s voted more than just “Present”
    14. He believes that terrorists are evil, and not merely “misunderstood devout Muslims
    15. He has not written two autobiographical books nor alluded to past drug use as a means of connecting to “the People”

I’m sure you fine folks can come up with a few more great differences too. Why should I have all the fun? LOL

Actually, there is an element of truth to that. Quite of few of Brown’s voters were in fact Obama voters just 14 months prior.

Many of those voters are angry with “business as usual” in Washington, D.C., and they voted for “CHANGE” both in Nov 2008 and Jan 2010.

Those voters want open, transparent, and accountable government.

The problem isn’t with the voters. The problem is with Obama’s broken promises.

Those of us who saw Obama for what he is – a Marxist revolutionary a la Saul Alinsky and Bill Ayers – before the election never expected him to keep those promises. But those voters who innocently believed those promises are now P.O.’d at Obama and are throwing their same innocence into Scott Brown’s promises.

Here’s to hoping Brown keeps his promises.

The “same kind of anger” seems to me implies some kind of equivalence relating to the impetus among voters for Barry’s election and Brown’s. That’s how I took the statement when I heard it as well. If so, it implies some kind of relationship between Brown’s success and Barry’s. No logical stretch here. Sorry.

Naaah…I’ll keep the bar low and just say a lot smarter than you.

You may be “smarter” than everyone here, but all that tells me is that your intelligence is wasted on the dogma that you have chained yourself to. I mean, if you cannot see the insanity within today’s liberal agenda, then no amount of “smart” on your part can save your intellectual integrity.

Einstein said something to the effect that “insanity is repeating the same actions over and over, while expecting different results.” THAT describes liberals in Washington, DC precisely. Everything they have done has made the lives of “common” Americans worse, but they keep exacerbating the problem by doing the same thing over and over again, because they say if they do it enough, it will fix everything.

One of three things drives your favorite politicians’ agendas–insanity, idiocy, or diabolical evil. Either way, your “smart” is wasted in attempting to justifying any of it.

Or do you mean the anger over Bush not passing Health Care reform?

Or do you mean the manufactured anger over weapons of mass destruction?

Or the anger of troops in Iraq in 2008 & again in 2009?

Or the anger over financial institutions failure due to Democrats meddlng in those industries?

Or the anger over the incumbent President’s policies (real & perceived)

Only that last one has anything to do with Scott Brown. Hard to tap into the actual anger event. It makes me angry.

It took a lot more than 8 years and a single party to destroy our economy. This started 50+ years ago and has been a bipartisan effort.

Saying that two sets of voters were angry is very different from saying:

    1. Obama is like Brown;
    2. Obama voters are like Brown voters (except in the very narrow and very uncontroversial sense that voters are often angry);
    3. Brown’s win is Obama’s win.

chapoutier, my initial reaction was the same as yours. Overall, I think MM has overstated her case, but I think I understand what’s going on.

I think many conservatives are demanding that a distinction be made between the angry 2008 voters and angry voters yesterday.

Obama clearly attempted to homogenize the two clearly different angers by saying:

People are angry and they’re frustrated, not just because of what’s happened in the last year or two years, but what’s happened over the last eight years.

Surely you can admit that Obama’s statement is disingenuous, right? He is actually suggesting that anger over the last eight years (which is how many would characterize the anger which got him elected) is partly responsible for Brown’s victory yesterday.

I do think it’s laughable and worthy of a blog post albeit a more tempered one.

    No WarEagle,

Those estimates were not pure speculation. They were based on people that had half a clue as to what they were talking about, which clearly you did not. It was based on people that probably had some notion of the fact that a 7.0 is 213 times stronger than a 5.4. Which I politely pointed out to you. But, yet again, you were more interested in being e-tough than listening to facts.

And curiously, that “pure speculation” has, sadly, pretty much proven to be true.

Yep, what Gibbs said is true. In fact, people are more likely to vote against someone than they are willing to vote for that person’s opponent.

I mean isn’t that part of the reason for negative campaign ads? To get you to dislike the opponent? Obama railed against Bush feeding the anger in the electorate. And, Brown railed against Coakley (Obama) feeding the anger in the electorate.

If irrational exuberance exists, then irrational dementia must also exist. Each is a reason to vote, . . . both for and against.

    Yep, Gibbs is correct.

No, Chappy, you abject moron. People were bandying around figures of up to 500,000 people dead just a few days after the quake before any relief teams had arrived on location.

Over the last two days I have seen figures between 40,000 and 200,000.

As of today, nobody knows how many people have died. Last week people were engaging in unfounded speculation. They didn’t know because they couldn’t know.

And if you will notice, even the original estimates of the quake have been revised. It appears now to have been a 7.2 on the Richter scale which is in fact 636.96 times greater than a 5.4 on the Richter scale. Do your math again if you can count that high on your fingers…

And your source indicates that a 5.4 quake is the equivalent of a 150KT bomb in terms of energy released. Which, again as your own source says “can cause major damage to poorly constructed buildings over small regions.” And that surely describes Manila not that you would know. But I am sure you are a highly trained physicist in addition to a “brilliant lawyer” and spend all your days waiting for ambulances to arrive at the ER calculating such things.

I’ll say it again. Last week people were not even certain of the size of the quake, much less the casualty figures. A week later we still have wildly varying estimates on the horrific loss of life there.

You’re a putz and an arrogant, presumptuous one and a lying, Marxist, ambulance chaser who thinks there are too many people in the world to begin with and doesn’t care if a quake takes out a few of them to reduce their carbon footprint. That is the compassion the people of the world have to look forward to if the like of you ever get in power…

The defeat of the somnolent Martha Coakley was a sure sign that the voters don’t want a health care plan designed by the same trial lawyers who funneled so much campaign money into the Obama campaign and now are rewarded with one federal judgeship after another. Contrary to the cries of the Boston Globe today, the Obama/Dodd health care plan did not curtail costs in any way. It has provisions that make it even easier to sue doctors. The bill just about ensures that any medical malpractice lawsuit will be decided in favor of the plaintiff and that of course raises the cost of health care exponentially. One of the most disingenous things that Obama has done was to state in his speech to Congress that he has designated Secretary Sebelius to design a pilot program for a malpractice reform plan. That is a pathetic joke and insulting also. He didn’t tell anyone that Sebelius was a career employee of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association and would never favor any tort reform at all. Chap, I think you would have to admit that if there is medical malpractice reform, the cost of health care will actually go down and the Obama plan can only result in massive increases in medical malpractice insurance premiums. And Coakley thought we are fools who will buy a pig in a poke.

    Who bandied about that number?

And in any case, in the original thread, you know…the one you were replying to… no one mentioned anything close to 500,000 (except you).

It appears now to have been a 7.2 on the Richter scale which is in fact 636.96 times greater than a 5.4 on the Richter scale.

No, they haven’t. But curious you would admit to being even more wrong than you initially were.

Over the last two days I have seen figures between 40,000 and 200,000.

Ummm…they’ve already BURIED more than 70,000. So your soruces obviously suck. Of course the exact count is not known, but the estimates are not THAT wildly varying, at least not official sources.

Which, again as your own source says “can cause major damage to poorly constructed buildings over small regions.” And that surely describes Manila not that you would know.

Tell me where I disputed that major damage to poorly constructed buildings in Manila occurred. But surely you have caught a glimpse or two of the fact that catastrophic damage to even well constructed buildings (like the palace) over a very large area have occurred in Haiti. Again, you show you have zero sense of scale….Or you are trying to downplay what is obvious to even a numbskull like you in order to try to score points against me.

You’re a putz and an arrogant, presumptuous one and a lying, Marxist, ambulance chaser who thinks there are too many people in the world
