Pelosi: I don’t have the votes for Demcare (yet)

The latest aftershock from the Massachusetts earthquake: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just announced she doesn’t have the votes for the House to pass the Senate’s version of the health care bill. For now.
More to come…
Via The Hill:
The House lacks the votes to pass the Senate’s healthcare bill, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday.
Pelosi threw cold water on the idea that the House could muster enough support to pass the Senate’s health bill, which includes a number of provisions liberals in the House find distasteful.
“I don’t see the votes for it at this time,” Pelosi told reporters during her weekly press conference. “The members have been very clear.”
…”We have to get a bill passed. We know that,” Pelosi said, adding that “unease would be a gentle word” to describe House members’ attitude toward the Senate legislation at the moment.
Yes, “unease” is too gentle. Try dyspepsia, nausea, revulsion, phobia, panic.
Yes, panic fits nicely.

I didn’t think she came out of her dirt-filled coffin during daylight.
WOOOO-HOOOOO!
This is just the beginning Nan’…come November…
All that brown in their fancy pants and pantsuits is evidence.
This fate was sealed when the Senate Dems didn’t go for the House’s amendment on abortion. If they had seen the Brown catastrophe coming, maybe they would have capitulated… you know that now they wish they had.
Delightful. I think that even San Fran Nan is finally beginning to wake up.
Well, maybe. But this is an encouraging sign.
She likely did not have the votes for that BEFORE the election. Both right and left in the House had no time for the Senate version.
Not having the votes has never stopped the Democrats before. Just steal a few.
No you don’t.
bu.bu.bu.but.but…i thought it was full steam ahead with the bill.
can’t trust a word these dems speak.
It’s over. They are not going to say much about it, then you won’t hear anything about it.
They won’t say ‘we lost’. They’ll just start talking about something else.
In a couple of months, they’ll make a random comment on it, and everyone will remember, oh yeah. . . what about health care.
I am amazed that so much attention has been given to such a boring topic for so long. The administration had to figure that the media and people would be bored and stop talking about it after a month or so. 8 or 9 months later and it’s still in the news. I’m amazed.
Nan baby, there is probably a bunch of your Dems in Congress breathing a sigh of relief that Brown won and took the heat off.
I confess to liking the phrase — it has more than one possible interpretation regarding Demcare.
But more to the point, what will they do next? I agree with Steyn and a few others that the dems are determined to pass something. So my guess is that they will A) check with Snowe/Collins to see what they support (the usual bribes to sugar-coat the deal), B) remove what the House liberals won’t support, then C) go for it. Really, they can do it. They won’t be happy, but it will still be a huge game-changer and the odds the republicans will unites to repeal it post-2010 or whenever are slight. Looks like we can still be screwed.
absolutely correct. But for them it is a nighmare because THEY ARE ALREADY ON RECORD VOTING FOR IT!
Every D senator was the DECIDING VOTE for cutting Medicare, raising taxes, increasing unfunded mandates to their state. They are on record with these votes. IT could not be worse for the D’s. They are on record voting for it, and they still didn’t get it.
The R party couldn’t have planned it any better if they paid consultants hundreds of millions of dollars.
Nancy sounding honest with her admission that she has no votes? I say look closer to see what she’s really up to. I don’t trust her regardless but I agree with ThakerAgency that it’s over.
They’d be fools to keep going. Maybe they get that we are going to continue to cling to our bibles and guns… and are fully prepared to do whatever it takes to keep America out of the hands of marxists and socialists.
Excellent point! The Brown win would lend them a semi-reasonable excuse to let HCR go w/o their losing too much face before average voters.
Why?!?!
DemCare/Nancy Pelosi and such Liberals remind me of “The Night of the Living Dead” or perhaps crabgrass; you cut, pull and poison but it keeps coming back.
Never rest.
“The Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for unemployment insurance rose last week by 36,000 to a seasonally adjusted 482,000. Wall Street economists expected a small drop, according to Thomson Reuters.”
“Dems propose another 1.9 Trillion debt increase”
These are the Progressive Socialist vermin at their best. And Pelosi keeps on and on -
Errah San Fran Nan and Stimpy Hoyer must of finally pulled out the ole abacus. On a similar note the Grim Reaper was seen picking up copies of the bill at the Rayburn Bldg this morning! They’ll have to go to the death by papercut route with pieces of the bill to get this past the american public now.
The dems are a joke. Here they are trying to pass health care that is supposed to work across the entire nation yet they won’t even talk about allowing insurance companies to sell policies across state lines. That they can’t see the hypocrisy of just that one concept shows you this is NOT about health care or reducing costs for same.
The Pope and Nancy Pelosi are on stage in front of a huge crowd.
The Pope leans towards Mrs. Pelosi and says, “Do you know that with one wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but it will go deep into their hearts. And for the rest of their lives, whenever they speak of this day they will rejoice!”
Pelosi replied, “I seriously doubt that with one little wave of your hand you can do that. Show me.”
So the Pope slapped her.
The Despercrat implosion could (repeat: “could“) be a major blessing in disguise; as in: It might bring us a Mike Pence or Tom Coburn type in the Oval Office come 2013.
A whimsical fantasy, I know. But then, so was Ronald Reagan back in the late 70′s.
I’m sure SanFranNan is familiar with the ‘brown catastrophe’…she has attended the Folsom Street Fair.
bcat, LOL. THE DEMS WILL NEVER GIVE UP SOCIALISM. last night dennis miller was great on o’reilley when he said dems are great when they are far from power, like headcheese, people may tell you it’s nutricious lunchmeat, so you give it a whirl, and up close you say i’m not eating that crap.
Stating the obvious and admitting the morinic denial she has been perpetuating for two days. But it definitely ain’t over yet. To steal MM’s analogy…toe fungus: Disgusting, persistant and just when you think you have it beat, it is back with a vengance.
Vigilance!
babiesgrandma–beee-KAWZ they have gots lots of babies to abort on your dime!
If they only aimed their sights on lowering insurance rates by erasing the state lines, which would also allow families to carry their insurance wherever they move, they would have passed this last year.
But then, it was never about improving things for them- just a power grab.
That’s what I’d like to know – the uninsured in this country are a small minority who still have access to quality health care, thanks to numerous state-local agencies and private charities. There’s no valid reason water-down everyone’s insurance and access to quality health care, just so Democrats can carve out a new voting bloc of dependent voters.
I know it’s spiteful, but I just love the fact that Nasty PelNazi and Harriet Reid are now seen as abject failures, and retain their strong disdain for each other to boot!
A radio host made a wonderful comment that other day: “It’s appropriate that Reid comes from a town called ‘Searchlight’, because he’ll need one to find his approval numbers”!!!
So delightful.
I don’t consider it Schadenfreude when the object is people of such ilk as the two America-haters you refer to above.
It couldn’t happen to nicer folks….
This is good news. It seems the voters have gobs of the dc bunch running scared! They should be. They don’t listen to those who put them in office. Reading all the d’s up for election in Nov. they are in big trouble with R’s getting more votes as of now.
O/T-this bho will be going to NV in March to ‘help’ dingy! I hope this bho goes to every d state to ‘help’ them. He has done such a bang up job so far!
L
hey nan..start getting used to NOT using that luxury plane on the taxpayers dime…come November you’ll just be another libtard/progressive either on the hunt for a new job or back in the gallery with the few dimocraps that remain in the house…maybe you can take early retirement to your vineyard without the illegals you probably have hanging around….
Ain’t nuttin’ a few more $100 million bribes won’t fix.
Hopefully that won’t be true anymore.
It must be driving the Despercrats out of their skulls that all their clandestine BS — which they thought they were keeping a secret — has escaped into the light of day.
In the end, their “closed-door” sesssions turned out to be the exact opposite.
What a well-deserved fate. Thank heavens for alternative media!
What with the Supremes reinstating the First Amendment (or at least starting)…
this scene really does seem miraculous!
Wow.
“The morning breaks; the shadows flee…”
Even a 55 gallon drum of Kaopectate won’t cure the trots thats got them filling their diapers these days!
Hey Bela Pelosi!
Just wait until we’re done with you folks after the mid-term election. You won’t have the votes to choose pizza over Chinese food for lunch.
Funny!
Errah
Hope he hits all 57 of em!

Let’s buy SanFranNan a nice 1973 Pinto for her trips to / from D.C–American made, and economically “green” to boot. And it will have a much lower carbon “footprint” than her taxpayer provided executive jet.

Errah
I’d be willing to take one for the team and rear end her!
So Obama can claim a political victory and help his political career or so peoples lives can be improved?
Unfortunately, its for Obama not the people. We know that.
Our fervent and constant prayers are being answered by the hour. Thank you, God, for giving us another chance. Let’s not blow it this time!
Given Teddy’s sexual proclivities, that set up a truly ugly visual.
Now I am temporarily blind…
You can bet that ObamaCare is dead. Obama today changed subjects to banking regulation and did a good thing. Glass-Steagall was a very effective regulation and it looks like much of it is going to be re-instated. Paul Volcker was standing just behind him to his right which is a good sign.
Try this fix for your “we gotta act now” attitude. Pass a 2 page or less bill that limits lawsuit damages for any case involving doctors, hospitals, or any other medical professional who pays medical malpractice insurance. Require something more than just a stamp to file such a lawsuit. Make the losing party and the losing party’s lawyers in medical malpractice suits have some “skin” in the game.
Our health insurance premiums should drop immediately. More people could afford health insurance.
I’m sure you were referring to her Lexus and your Volvo.
No, you don’t. There is no ‘crisis’ in healthcare you have to fix. But, if you MUST pass a HC bill, it must include:
* Tort reform!
* Competition across state lines!
* Reduction or elimination of mandates!
I’m sure there are many more…
American Pie. Dear Leader sings “The Day Obamacare Died.”
“Would you be interested in a healthcare co-op?”
Pasadena Phil,
If this rain keeps up, you won’t be able to see your shadow in a couple of weeks.
I saw part of Obamas speech this morning and the main thing I took away is more political posturing by him. He really is a loser. He started by saying the economic problems are 2 years old which infers it was Booosh. Then he blamed everything on the financial meltdown which he made clear was due to policies of Booosh. Then he said the first stimulus was done by Booosh. Then he said that Chris Dodd and Barwney Frwank were going to fix the problem.
Well, I thought Dodd and Frank were the real problem to begin with. Therefore he was just deflecting the truth and blaming Booosh but praised the people who really played a huge role in creating the mess as our potential saviors.
If he can not identify the real problem, he can not fix anything. All he is doing is blaming Bush and claiming Dems will fix the problem that Booosh created. That is not leadership nor will it fix the problem. It’s all about political posturing. Standard Democrat strategy.
Sad.
All that Botox has left her paralyzed from the neck up.
Yeah, we’re suffering out here. Will this winter never end? Pray for us.
Rear ending happens in San Francisco more often than you would like to think about!
BTW, what do you think of Scott Brown taking your seat and killing your dream of universal health care?
I saw the vid of her interview and she looks like she’s lieing through her teeth
I am sure that his reasons for today’s announcement were political but that is what politicians do. The important thing is that this addresses one of the main root causes of the financial meltdown, too big to manage, too big to regulate, too big to fail banks. This will help jobs by freeing commercial bankers to return to their main business: community lending. It was a colossal mistake to put investment bankers in charge of our banking system.
I really don’t care about Obama’s motivations to do this. It is the right thing to do. I hope he will now nationalize Fannie and Freddie in order to squeeze them out of business.
My take on the financial crisis was that Dems in Congress forced banks to change their lending practices for home mortgages so that unqualified “poor” people whose plight is championed by Dems could have a home. I heard Barwney Frank say it was a right for them to have homes. Dodd and Frank worked to get Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to back those mortgages with guarantees which are then essentially backed by guarantees of the Federal government as they are pseudo government entities. The banks made these loans to satisfy Dems in Congress. They did so by giving these “poor” people variable rate mortgages so they could afford the monthly payments. When interest rates began to rise, so did the monthly payments and the poor people could not absorb the increased payments and defaulted on the loans. Variable rate loans are risky for just this reason and the risk came home to roost.
When a bank makes a loan that is not paid back, they lose money. If they take the property, they can not get the full loan amount back when sold because so many people defaulted the market for homes was glutted. Supply and demand brought home prcies tumbling which rippled through the economy. When the banks lose money , they don’t have money to lend to new business ventures or even car loans, etc so people buy less, and more jobs are lost and the cycle begins.
The “poor” people lose the houses they probably couldn’t afford anyway and as more jobs are lost, more homes are defaulted. My tax dollars are then taken from me to give to the banks to keep them solvent. All investors in banks and taxpayers forced to now invest in those banks bear the burden of those losses. The “poor” person may actually keep their homes in some cases but most of them lose their investment (equity) as well. And it’s all just the change in market value of the home.
Therefore I end up paying for all this home devaluation where people default on mortgages they should never have had in the first place. Those like me that still have a job and with a fixed rate mortgage can pay their monthly payment. They just watch as their equity shrinks but they also have the ability to recoup that when the markets go up. Home devaluation does not affect me unless I lose my job because of the cycle.
Those who can’t pay their increased variable rates or lose their jobs in the cycle lose everything.
I don’t see any of this as Bushs fault. I see it as Dodd and Franks fault in their misguided attempt to help “poor” people get houses. Also known as gevernment meddling in social engineering projects.
Or was it all just greedy rich people like investment bankers? I don’t see it that way. The solution seems all too simple. Lower taxes and people will have more money to spend. Jobs will be created, supply and demand will right itself, and keep government out of the process.
Beware progressives bringing salt.
I guess us stupid teabagging racist radical extremists were right all along.
The best I can say is that congress has wasted so much time on this massive exercise in futility, that they couldnt do more damage to the world than what they have already done.
Now…. like we told you since last summer, put this out in in public view, include real debate and fix whats broken – dont change the system.
You’ve used/wasted/squandered your political capital with the amercian people; so if we ever slightly trusted you before, we never will again.
actually, she’s been pulled so many times that she’s lying through her sternum.
Most recent photos of Nancy indicate she is lacking in the Botox vitamin. She looks stressed, poor hag.
Why not? She’s allready been tea-bagged!
‘I have to get my botox injected with a firehose. I know that.’

PS: Nan and Babs are toast here in California. Oh, and Barbara Lee may have some toadies crawling up her leg from her days of being tax cheat Ron Dellums’ emissary to an enemy of the state down in Grenada when they were fudging the picture of how an airbase was/was not a threat to US national security. Orange jumpsuits for all.
I can only hope that nancy and reid and hoyer and the rest of of usual suspects have emergency gall bladder surgery performed by the M.D. that did murtha. May they RIP
