The soap opera of John Edwards; Update: Silky Pony rehabs image in Haiti

He already admitted he had lied repeatedly about his affair with Rielle Hunter. Then in August 2008, after admitting he had become “increasingly egocentric and narcissistic,” he told the press he “will have nothing more to say.”
Then came “Game Change” revelations published in the New York this month by journalists who belong to the MSM clique that scoffed at the tabloid story for so long:
“As for Elizabeth Edwards, she is reportedly now urging John to accede to Hunter’s demands and take responsibility for his paternity of Frances Quinn—a dramatic and no doubt painful turnabout from her position eighteen months ago. Confronted then with the Enquirer photo of her husband cuddling Hunter’s baby, she insisted to Palmieri that she still believed he was not the father. ‘I have to believe it,’ Elizabeth said. ‘Because if I don’t, it means I’m married to a monster.’”
The “monster’s” admission comes this morning to NBC News:
“I am Quinn’s father. I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves. I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace.
It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me. I have been providing financial support for Quinn and have reached an agreement with her mother to continue providing support in the future.
To all those I have disappointed and hurt these words will never be enough, but I am truly sorry.”
As usual, the confession is as calculated as an algebra exam. Edwards is preempting the publicity wave that will hit next month when a tell-all book by Andrew Young, a longtime aide to Mr. Edwards, is released. Young participated in a distraction ruse claiming he was the father of Hunter’s baby.
Like sands in the hourglass, these are the prolonged days of Edwards’ lies.
Yawn.

Edwards must be having a difficult time being out of the limelight. The time to own up to being the child’s father has long past. Does anybody really care now?

No. Can we talk about something else now? Surely there are more important issues at hand, like how Scott Brown’s win is having a ripple effect in just about every race coming up this November. Democrats everywhere, even in local elections, are twisting themselves in knots over the MA nuclear explosion, and conservative candidates are shouting words of taking back America to her conservative roots, the rule of law, and the Constitution.
There was a time, not so very long ago, when a man did things that were so completely awful, so monstrous and hideous that they permanently dishonored not only himself but those around him, that there was a societal expectation made of such a person.
The expectation that he would have at least enough decency left to take a loaded revolver down to a deserted beach at low tide and “do the honorable thing”.
Nowadays, such losers just ‘lawyer up’, go on Oprah and cry a little or pretend to forget about it and hope it will go away.
Or, if they have enough money, they buy everyone off and try to minimize the damage.
With all of Edwards’ money, there is one thing that he cannot buy, and that’s the respect of others. Everyone on Earth knows his face and knows that he is total trash, and that is something that he will take to his grave. That is his legacy.
The “egocentric and narcissistic” says it nicely although I am more inclined to the blue collar: rat, hound dog and whore.
My only sympathies are for the child born into this vulgarity. The Edwards and the whore are not the best role models for her. Were these vulgarians Hollywood or athletic stars the child would be no less cursed but there would be the wink and nod. May God’s Grace be with Frances Quinn.

People like Edwards live in a world of situational ethics and moral relativism. I’d be willing to bet that to this very day John Edwards still doesn’t understand why everyone is “picking on poor, pitiful me”.
Given a “reasonable” period of rehabilitation and contrition their are more than a few leftists. progressives, liberals, or whatever you want to call them, who will flock to a future Edwards campaign foe elective office. There are even current districts and municipalities that would elect tomorrow if he ran for office in those locations
What about the double standards of conservatives who for so long whined that the mainstream media wasn’t following the Enquirer’s coverage of Edwards, then pretended that the Enquirer never reported that Sarah Palin had an affair with her husband’s business partner.
Edwards had his reasons/excuses/delusions, as to why he got into the affair in the first place. I won’t judge those.
I do, however, find it “instructive” that Edwards’ “admission” makes no mention of the fact that it was wrong for him to have been involved in the affair in the first place–only that it was wrong to have denied his paternity of the child.
Sad, very very sad…

If Edwards truly “gets this” then better late than never.
The adults can fend for themselves, but the kids, who are blameless, need care and protection.

I don’t entirely disagree, but they’ve broken more news stories in the past 30 years than the ‘real’ media. Combine tabloids with the bloggers, and it is easy to see that the MSM hasn’t contributed much to journalism since the S&L Scandal in the ’80′s.

Elizabeth needs to take this ‘monster’ to the cleaners. Hit him where it hurts: his wallet. Divorce, division of assets, alimony as long as she lives, and an iron-clad Will to make sure he doesn’t get any of it back.
The nonperformance of my local fishwrap (The News and Observer) on this story raises a serious issue of media conflict of interest: Local reporters, who have unique access to emerging presidential candidates, have their own fortunes closely tied to those of the candidates. Reporting that diminishes the candidates’ prospects is strongly against the interest of the reporters.
When candidates without big national reputations surge in the primaries, the world turns to the local reporters who have covered them. Those reporters have many connections to the campaign and may not be as critical as they should be. If a guy on your beat gets elected president, you become a fixture on political chat shows and are sought after by all of Washington. Your reputation is made; likely, you write a biography of your man; you might even become his press secretary. You career is ~made~.
Obviously the N&O had this kind of access and history with John Edwards. So how could the N&O have been among the last to know that the guy was a scumbag? You just have to suspect that the newspaper and the reporters involved were looking to feather their own nests. Why mess it all up by bringing down the goose that lays the golden eggs?
The alternative explanation of why it takes a supermarket tabloid without local connections and with no real strength in political reporting to uncover this kind of story is that the local boys were completely incompetent.
I just don’t believe that were incompetent. I have to believe that they were in the tank for Team Edwards. Great reporting, guys!

I cannot speak for Michelle, but I believe her point is when you see something like that in a tabloid like the Enquirer, while you should not blindly report it, but if it seems to have some merit you should investigate it.
If you want to investigate a Palin affair, fine, knock yourself out. However, do not ignore the Edwards allegation and pursue the Palin report.
RSS, when you are dealing with the office of The President, the man with his finger on the red button, it is totally irresponsible to not look fully into his past. You should not accept ANY STONEWALLING of information about his past unless the inforamtion is classified.
Birth certificates and academic records are hardly classified and for the MSM to give ANYONE a pass is inexcusible.
I want to know if Palin had an affair. I also want to know that Barack Obama has a valid birth certificate, he did attend Columbia University and that every aspect of his life is confirmed LONG BEFORE election day 2008.
The MSM can have their preferences, but they also have an obligation to be professional journalists and not be enablers of any coverups.

Errah Silky Pony’s probably been down there a long time and just recently climbed out from under his rock. It makes no difference what Pony and the HO do with their lives, the child will forever be branded as not being worthy of declaration of paternity. Did he claim her at birth with his last name and declare she was his child? No.
Please do the child a favor and place her with parents that will love and cherish her. Pony and the HO have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt they only care about themselves. The child is only something to be used as collateral between the plaintiff and defendent in a future lawsuit for some very big dollars.
