Mike Pence decides not to run for Senate…would “give consideration” to 2012 presidential run

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 26, 2010 11:54 AM

I’m disappointed, but understand his reasons. Erick Erickson at RedState has the full scoop:

January 26, 2010

Open Letter to Friends and Supporters

As many of you are aware, I have been approached about running for the United States Senate in 2010. Karen and I have been humbled by the outpouring of support and encouragement which we received from across Indiana, especially since there are several capable and qualified candidates already seeking the Republican nomination.

After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to remain in the House and to seek reelection to the 6th Congressional District in 2010.

I am staying for two reasons. First because I have been given the responsibility to shape the Republican comeback as a member of the House Republican Leadership and, second, because I believe Republicans will win back the majority in the House of Representatives in 2010.

One year ago I was unanimously elected chairman of the House Republican Conference, the third ranking position in House Republican leadership. I accepted that responsibility because I believed that if Republicans returned to their conservative roots, they could win back the confidence of the American people. And I see it happening every day.

Onward, upward, rightward.

12:20pm Eastern. Pence is speaking at the Heritage Foundation Bloggers’ Briefing. You can watch on UStream right now here.

He says he would “give consideration” to a presidential run in 2012.

I don’t see a lot of speculation. It is clear why he chose to do what he chose to do. bills concerning money are generated from the house. maybe pence can actually start CUTTING gubment departments of redundancy department. try a 10% cut of every department each of the next presidents term, including the ss, medicare, gubment pensions, and state medicaid payments. THE ONLY WAY TO CUT GUBMENT SPENDING IS TO CUT SPENDING. everyone knows all gubment programs are absolutely necessary and every dollar spent is wisely spent on the people’s behalf. SO START WITH FRIVOLOUS CRAP, U.N., NPR, DEPT OF EDUCATION, AID TO ANYONE OTHER THAN AMERICANS, DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION, SUBSIDIES TO AGRIBUSINESS, DEPT OF FORESTRY, EPA, ETC.

Personally, I’m relieved Mike Pence isn’t running for these reasons:

    1) His position in the House is a key position that will enable him to ensure House Republicans will return to their conservative roots when they take over in 2011
    2) His entry would’ve turned the primary race into a zoo; there’s already at least five and maybe as many as seven in the running for the nomination
    3) I’m already a supporter of one of those candidates (Marlin Stutzman) and believe he is a good choice and will make a good U.S. Senator

Does anyone have a running list of authentic Conservative candidates running for the House and Senate??? Us MM readers need one of those “THE LIST” so we can start supporting with our money and volunteer time. The GOP is continuing to financially support rotten apples. We need to start our work now by finding qualified Conservatives.

I don’t think there’s any skeletons in Pence’s closet, or they would’ve come out during his tenure in the House already–especially by the lame-stream media whose sole purpose in life is to mock, defame, and slander all conservative politicians, but especially those associated with the Tea Party movement which Pence assuredly is. So the question is: stay in the House where he’s getting seniority or start all over as the “junior” senator? I’d opt for the former myself.

As a side note, I was driving home from Tucson, Arizona this morning and heard a McCain ad (while listening to Rush, ironically) attacking JD Hayworth who hasn’t even “officially” announced his candidacy for senate here in Arizona, yet. Blows my mind how McCain doesn’t hestitate a moment to attack a fellow conservative who “may” challenge him in the primary, but couldn’t say a word about Obama palling around with terrorists (Bill Ayers)and racist, Marxists (Jeremiah Wright).

McCain, Specter, Reid–all need to retire. I will NOT support McCain.

Hayworth for Senate, and Jesse Kelly for Congress, AZ 8th district!!

For your edification, it is not “speculation” to say that Pence is staying in the House because he expects the GOP to win back the majority. It’s not speculation because Pence himself told us that.

Yes, that is stated in the excerpt.

    That is NOT speculation.

Who said it was speculation that he was third in line?

I said, referencing your post #10, maybe he will, maybe he won’t, become Speaker. You suggested thinking of Rep Pence in terms of becoming Speaker.

That is a fact though you obviously don’t know the difference.

The difference? Between being third in line and possibly becoming Speaker? Yep, it could happen, but I don’t want to speculate.

And it is painfully obvious that there is nothing between your ears!

Too funny. You should try reading comprehension.

Being on the short list for Speaker and suggesting he will rise to that position is speculation. Rising to speaker is not a frequent flyer program, or awarded for being present.

Third in line or not, Rep Bachmann (MN) can become Speaker. Yep, that is speculation. Should she be re-elected and throw her hat into the ring and win. She would become Speaker in a Republican majority House.

    Do you comprehend that?

And Pence mentioned his role in House Leadership specifically as a reason for staying put.

Yep, I acknowledged that, saying his reasons stand.

    Again, fact and not speculation.

Again, who said it was speculation? It’s in the excerpt.

You need to consult a good dictionary.

You need to gain an understanding of reading comprhension.

For the record Rogue Cheddar got it in post #7. I cut and pasted exactly what I wrote about DEL AG Biden on the thread discussing his not running for the US Senate. Rogue Cheddar cut and pasted the same response to my comment there on this thread, well minus the last four or five words.

Haven’t seen what you said about Biden on the other similarly themed (someone choosing not to run for their own reasons) thread, though I will look.

I am consistent, and you just need reading comprehension.

Who said it was speculation for his reasons to stay in the House?

You too, can use a few lessons on reading comprehension.

I was taken to task for speculating, yet the poster who did so, speculated themselves. See post #10. In saying that Rep Pence is on the short list to become Speaker, suggests an interest in, or speculates that, he might become spekear.

What IS speculation is your inane babble abour “other shoes dropping”.

Nope. It is about being consistent.

I said the same thing about DEL AG Biden on the thread addressing his not running for the US Senate.

I will go back and read if you had a problem with me saying that about AG Biden.
