Every Senate Democrat voted to raise debt limit to $14.3 trillion
Every Senate Democrat voted to raise the debt limit to $14.3 trillion. The vote was 60-40 on straight partisan lines.
Let me repeat that — and let it be repeated loudly and often:
Every Senate Democrat voted to raise the debt limit to $14.3 trillion.
That’s $45,000 per American.
Here’s the roll call vote:

Can’t say it enough: There is no such thing as a “moderate Democrat” in the Senate.

Question: Why is Democrat MA Sen. Paul Kirk still voting?
Reader D. Russel e-mails:
Michelle:
An idea to focus the whole country on the continuing insanity of the Democrats. Energize citizens to send their Democrat senatorsan invoice… a bill to pay them back for deciding to place every man, woman and child in the US an additional $45,000.00 [in debt]. Better yet, make the invoice cumulative since the initial stimulus bill of Obama.

Someone PLEASE take away the credit card!
I have a question, why is kirk from MA still voting? I thought he was barred from voting now that Scott was elected even if Scott has not been seated in the senate yet.
L
When does Kirk leave the Senate? They’re dragging out his replacement.
What happen to waiting for Brown to be seated before taking any important votes?
Dems: We really need to get spending under control! For the sake of the Children!
Chairman: All those in favor of raising the debt limit?
Dems: Aye!
Dems: I feel better now.
All you need to hear this morning is Pelosi saying about healthcare reform that nothing will stop its passage. She said the Dems will fight, climb over, jump over, pole vault over, or parachute over all obstacles until it is on Obama’s desk this year…
Guess the Scott Brown victory really was about the Dems not pushing hard enough after all.
It seems we are going to have to yank it from their hands. Its hard to get an addict to cooperate, so I guess its up to us, seeing that it is OUR money they keep throwing away!
This is just another campaign pamphlet for conservatives in November. I’m really disappointed in Lieberman. I thought that he was a man of character. I guess that the Virginia and Pennsylvania governor elections weren’t much of a wake up call for their Senators.
The Dems should start packing.
So I guess “the time has come” and “let me be clear” and “me, me, me, me, me…”, once processed through the baloney machine, translates to “debt as far as the eye can see and then some.”
Very good point letget. This vote was illegal. Therefore, the supreme court has the duty to disqualify this particular vote and fine or imprison Kirk for impersonating a senator. Reid is an accomplice and should also face fines/prison.
Dem: Hi, My name is Richard Cranium and I’m running for the Senate! Not only am I soft on National Security but also on Fiscal Responsibility! The heck with a chicken in every pot or pot to go with your chicken, we’re the Big Screen TV People! Vote for me and your Super Bowl Party will be the envy of all your ghetto neighbors!
Lest we forget, The Empty Suit wants to freeze discretionary spending after it was raised 25% to save money – this is a hoot. But, you can sleep better tonight that Obama the Blame caster is part of an administration that has authorized the re-importation of Haggis.
Praise be Obama the Blame Caster, harbinger of Haggis.
Another fraud impersonating a senator is Franken. Damned felons.
That’s strange – McCain voted no. Must be another trick of his. Because as we all know, he’s constantly conspiring to stab republicans in the back, to betray us at every turn, raise the debt limit – why, he’s more of a democrat than all of the other democrats. How dare he trick us all like this – He really wanted to vote the other way.
He sure is deceitful and conniving, that evil McCain (D) democrat.
MSNBC: “Mr. Cranium, do you now, or have you ever, had a Negro Dialect?”
What happened to Kirk couldn’t vote after the election – I thought that MA law kicked him out after election day was over. Guess they changed that, too.
I see Sen. Bayh voted in favor, despite his recent much-publicized cautionary words to fellow Dems on spending and the deficit.
Talk is cheap.
I just sent this link to both my Senators (Murray/Cantwell WA ST)
I told them they may want to check themselves into the program.
Especially when its directed at the lowly class of non-government citizens.
This action proves that the SOTU was nothing more than cheap theater.
Reid has always said that Kirk kept all voting rights. Nobody has questioned it. I don’t understand why Kirk is still voting either.
I think they are taking these votes to prove to the House that they could have passed it before Brown was seated. But when Webb said he wouldn’t let them do it, it was over.
I doubt Brown will make a big deal about it because he doesn’t want to make waves. . . but he should be contesting the votes until he is seated IMO.
But with him there, it pins down Dems as being the single deciding vote. . . EVERY dem was the deciding vote to raise the debt ceiling rather than cut spending. Sounds like a campaign issue to me.
I’d rather sit through Nashville than watch another SOTU. Or even Popeye.
What was that? I thought I heard something? Must’ve been a fart in a whirlwind.
The dirty little secret of this:
“The Senate has approved tough new budget rules to make it harder to run up the deficit with new tax cuts or federal benefit programs.”
“The Democratic-backed plan would make it more difficult to permanently extend some tax cuts that expire at the end of this year and renew health care subsidies for laid-off workers.”
“The idea passed by a 60-40 party-line vote. It attempts to curb the spiraling budget deficit by requiring spending increases or tax cuts to be “paid for” with cuts to other programs or tax increases. If the rules are broken, there would be automatic cuts to programs like Medicare, farm subsidies and veterans’ pensions.”
Hopey Changey Libtards?
Here is a copy of the letter I sent to my senators (feel free to use it):
I’ll take a RINO over a Democrat any day
I know this get a lot of flack, but we simply cannot trust the future of America to any Democrat
When this country goes down the tube we’re going to grab these bums by the ankles and drag them down with us.
Congress being in control of the debt limit is like a shopaholic controlling their credit limit.
Thomas,
Would your real name be Meghan McCain?
It’s time to hammer the Socialist Dems on this crap and make sure the label sticks.
From now on it’s the Obama-Reed Debt Limit.
From now on it’s the Obama Stimulus Act.
From now on it’s the Obama-Holder Rights for Terrorists.
as gomer would say: surprise…surprise…surprise…NOT
can’t claim this one but…..
rope…tree…politician…some assembly required…
***
It’s great to see the “democrat” / liberal / socialist / statist / marxist / communist Senators vote to support continued fiscal responsibility by raising the debt “limit” again–second time in a few months.
***
After all they are only “hepping us out” by putting more taxpayer money in the bank they are about to rob again.

May they feel the bite in November. No other words I can say and not be banned.
Along with “moderate Democrat” there is no such thing as a:
principled Democrat
free thinking Democrat
courageous Democrat
truthful Democrat
responsible Democrat
However, they are all “consistent” Democrats.
Well, we all heard The One say last night that cuts in spending will have to happen next year.
So much for fiscal responsibility.
Once a thief, always a thief.
I doubt the DNCmediacomplex will dwell on this story much.
So Temp Sen Kirk illegally voted as well? That’s them Dems, lie cheat and steal.
Macy’s just announced more jobs cuts. More people to stand in the unemployment line thankful that Obama’s jobs creation programs are working.
BTW, who is going to make the most money with Obama’s high-speed train program ($48b in LA alone)? France. We are not competitive in that industry. Are we going to be imposing import duties on all of the this imported equipment?
I’m with everyone else here questioning why Kirk is still voting! Technically, he is not a Senator anymore.
Heh,
No amount of joking from you can hide the fact that McCain is THE WORST … PERSON … IN THE WORLD!!!!
And the same goes for his gay loving wife.
And their plus sized little piggletttt.
Let me add to the chorus of “Why the Hell is Kirk still voting?” While I’m at it, I’ll also question why we aren’t hearing a big stink about this from Republican leaders in the Senate?
Paul Kirk’s ability to vote in the Senate ended the day after the election in Massachusetts. Why aren’t the Republicans shouting this from the mountain tops?
You mean that you know of any in the House?
Thomas said:
That pegged the ole tension meter at 10 there dude.
In the last special election in Mass, Niki Tsongas was sworn in on October 18, 2007. Guess when the election was held. Go ahead, guess! October 16, 2007. Yep, 48 hours went by before they got around to swearing her in. Where is the Repub leadership on this?!
They are “employing every action possible to defeat the bill” according to Senator Jon Kyl–got in writing so it must be true!
I just sent a note to Lugar and Bayh. Not that either of them will give a rip, but I am soooo angry with the whole lot of them, Rs and Ds alike.
************
Why is Kirk still in the Senate and casting votes? Every legal opinion I’ve read says he was finished at the close of election day. Is the US Senate above the law? Do laws not apply to US Senators?

Why is Kirk (D-MA) still voting?
Why is Kirk (D-Ma) still voting
If Kyl said it, it must be true (har-har-har!) They are employing every action possible (that won’t disrupt the traditional commity and good fellowship of the Senate. That would draw a stern rebuke from McCain (D-AZ).
What else will they stick us with before Brown is seated?
Kirk in Kennedy’s seat. Laws do not apply.
Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment
Not to that seat. Just ask Mary Jo Kopechne.
Have you forgotten, or just choose to ignore, the fact that nearly every Republican in the Senate voted to lower the marginal tax rate for the highest earning americans from 35% to 25% last year, which would cause the the debt to skyrocket like nothing the Democrats have proposed or enacted?
Get serious.
Have you forgotten that taxbreaks create jobs (just see the Reagan years). Not to mention tax revenues tend to go up when more people have more money to spend and are actually working?
I know shocking isnt it?
Yeah, and as usually happens when you lower the marginal tax rates, tax revenues went up. Laffer curve and all that. Even JFK and WJC knew that.
So are you okay with this vote to raise the debt limit?
Have you forgotten, or just choose to ignore, the lowering of tax rates spurred the country out of the last recession and collected more in taxes because of prosperity. Just as it did when Jack Kennedy was president. The rates do not directly reflect intake.
Now go back to your 9th grade class and tell your teacher. It is obvious you learned nothing there yesterday.
Kirk is channeling the wishes of Teddy until Brown takes over, which I figure will be after Brown gets re-elected.
Poor RSS. He still believes in the fairy tale of Keynesian economics. And probably the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny too…
This lady called into Rush yesterday and said, “Imagine if the money wasted last year on TARP, the stimulus, and increased government employment had been returned to the economy in the form of tax cuts and credits.”
Obama should have just printed the money and had a huge bonfire for all the good it did.
Oh well, at least the Chinese got a good ROI on Obama’s plan.
LOL! That’s the name I use when I’m in the studio and I have the ol’ MacBook play, for example, a bass part. No one ever gets it. (Sad face)
new black panther voter intimidation was a crime and look how that turned out…nothing will be done unless odumbo ticked off the court just a little too much last night…I hope he has…
Debt?
What debt?
A trillion here and trillion ther, soon you’re talking real money…………..
We’re already bankrupt, nobody has the guts to say so.
Dear Dem’s,
Let me thank you now for this gift we will capitalize on next November.
Signed,
Republican Challengers Everywhere
Hey, wait a minute!
I thought Obrainless said there was going to be a spending freeze. How can you freeze spending if you raise the debt limit, hmmm?
Or is that hmmm-hmmm-hmmm…
Yeah, so much for Evan Bayh raising a red flag.
He is soooo gone come November 2010.
Loss of revenue does not put one in debt.
Spending money one DOESN’T HAVE puts you in debt.
Repeat as necessary until you get it.
Geez! And I just paid off my other bills! I guess I’ll let my youngest daughter start paying our share first. Let’s see, $45,000 over 60 years is $750 a year or $62.50 a month from now until she is 70. Of course that doesn’t cover the interest fees.
I’ll call the White House and see where she can send her piggy bank…
*Don’t be fooled by any moderate talk from a Democrat between now and November, whether in the Senate or the House; They must all be targeted for removal from office; The GOP may not have the guts to say it, but I will continue to say it: The Democratic Party is the “Death to America” party, plain and simple; Please let’s not stay on the sidelines any longer; We must fight these progressives tooth and nail!
*Advice for the GOP: Saddle up the Fair Tax horse and ride that sucker until further notice; If you can’t do at least that, you will remain nothing more than Democrat lap dogs!
What’s this Laffer Curve I keep hearing about? Is it new?
Seriously, to hear y’all talk you’d think it was called the Laffer Line where tax revenues go up infinitely the lower taxes are (.00000000001% being the lowest tax rate practical, which would be so much revenue that the government could give every American a beach house).
Alas it’s the Laffer CURVE, which means that revenue peaks at a certain tax rate and goes down whenever that rate is higher or lower than that magical G-spot. And while economists have had different findings on what rate generates the most revenue, NO ONE puts it even close to as low as 25%.
Meaning Jim Demint et al. were more than eager to cripple our kids with debt far more than Nancy Pelosi.
Information on the Laffer Curve: http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/bg1765.cfm
In fact, the article notes that Laffer didn’t invent the concept but trace it back to a 14th century Muslim philosopher. It certainly isn’t “new.”
There is no indication that additional reduction in marginal tax rates would not increase tax revenues. Historically, it has happened every time it has been tried this century. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/images/chart.gif
Keep in mind that as of 2009, the USA has the 2nd highest corporate tax rates in the Industrialized World and the tax rate is much higher than the average OECD rate.
http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2009/08/us-corporate-tax-rate.html
Only Japan has a higher rate.
If we all promise to play nice in the sandbox, they could really jumpstart the economy by just dividing up the loot and giving every man, woman, and child the money.
When you’re broke, stop spending. If you’re in a hole, stop digging. It’s really very simple.

That chart in the second link only tracks tax revenues in the 1980s. Correct me if I’m wrong, but taxes and revenues were both higher in the 1990s. Typical of Heritage not to even mention the Clinton years because it doesn’t prove the point they’re paid to make.
Perhaps the 90′s was not used as most economists will tell you that it is hard to figure in the .com bubble of the 90′s into the equation.
To be fair, citizen’s in a state with a Senator that voted for this should be required to cough up the cash right now to cover the delta debt increase. If both Senator’s voted yes, then that state gets a 100% allocation, if only one, then a 50% allocation. That will curb the stupidness real quick.
I am persuaded, this vote was illegal. So where are the right-wing lawyers (let’s drop “conservative” for the time being) filing depositions and all that, storming the capitol, holding press conferences? Perhaps their alarms failed to go off.
The democrats will keep doing this until we call them on it. In a way, you have to hand it to them. They never quit, they never give up, and like rust they never sleep. If our representatives had half their (insert rude expression here) attitude, we could win. Obamao made it quite clear last night. He is not going to reach across the aisle.
It might be more effective to dock half their pay if one of them one votes for the debt limit increase, and dock their full pay is both do. After that, go after their retirement and health benefits.
Blue Dog Democrats, who pretend to be Americans, are really a mirage. Birds of a feather.
Ha, what a coinkidink, I play bass.
RSS,
There is no arguing with some basic facts.
1. High taxes are a disincentive.
2. Wealthy people are infinitely more likely to use their money to create jobs than poor people.
3. If a potential new business that would employee 30 people will only provide a 1% return due to high taxes, an investor is not likely to consider it.
4. If that same business could provide a 10% return, the investment would be made and 30 jobs would be created in the private sector.
5. Liberals would bemoan the fact that the rich are getting richer despite the fact that an additional 30 people are employed.
So do I.
Kucinich (D) wants older workers to collect social security at age 60 and leave the workplace..like you can live on social security. Cavuto is giving him heck…
ex bass player myself….
More Treason.
What happened to voting on this extension of the debt ceiling before the SotU speech? Way to get rolled again, McConnell.
TAX AND SPEND, THEN SPEND AND BORROW.
Exactly!
Senate precedent is that Kirk’s role as Senator ended at the end of the day on January 19th… the day the election was held to fill the seat.
Wow! I fish for bass. What a small world!
This inquiring mind wants to know why too.
BTW-Why hasn’t Scott Brown said anything about it?
My thinking on why the rinos in the senate have not said anything about kirk is, they want the same thing the way the vote went, but being they are up for relection letting kirk vote makes them all warm and fuzzy with the voters. This whole thing stinks more than a skunk!
L
More than likely, they didn’t object because this way the debt ceiling gets raised and the Dems take 100% of the blame for doing so.
Indeed. The Weekly Standard researched this before the election.
“But based on Massachusetts law, Senate precedent, and the U.S. Constitution, Republican attorneys said Kirk will no longer be a senator after election day, period.”
Precedent: “Strom Thurmond was elected senator from South Carolina in 1956, succeeding an appointed senator. A resolution introduced by then-Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson established his Senate term to have begun the day after his election, weeks before his certification.”
From Give Us Liberty “A CRS report notes that “[p]revailing practice is for state governors to fill Senate vacancies by appointment, with the appointee serving until a special election has been held, at which time the appointment expires immediately.”
Why aren’t the Republicans, or anyone, challenging this vote? This is deeply weird.
This after Obama chastised them for being partisan. Ridiculous.
I don’t see any way out now but intentionally devaluing the currency, screwing the Chinese and other bond holders, and really putting the hurt on people living on fixed income.
Zimbabwe/Weimar Republic type devaluation.
Thousand dollar gallon of gas, five grand to see a movie kind of thing.
We’ve been burning up the phone lines here in Massachusetts, asking that very question.
Staying tuned….
Are there any Investigative Reporters left in Massachusetts who might be just a wee bit curious about why Kirk is still voting?
This should be headline news in every newspaper and on every TV and radio station in the state!
This is the people’s seat, and former Senator Kirk needs to get out of it!
Are they making good on the threat of delaying Senator Scott Brown’s oath-taking? The press says the Massachusetts Secretary of State is not certifying results until all the absentee ballots are accounted for.
Watch out everyone. They might do some black magic. Those in Mass., please check… be on the lookout!
