Screw up, move up: Bernanke re-nominated

The final vote in the Senate on the Federal Reserve chairman’s re-nomination this afternoon was 70-30.
Among the Republicans supporting Ben Bernanke: Alexander, Barrasso, Coburn, Cochran, Collins, Enzi, Graham, Gregg, Hatch, Kyl, Lugar, McConnell, Murkowski, Voinovich, and Snowe.
Seven Senators switched their votes after voting for cloture (the procedural vote was 77-23).
Via The Hill’s Jordan Fabian, they were: Boxer, Franken, Harkin, Dorgan, Kaufman, Whitehouse, LeMieux.
I’ll post the roll call as soon as it goes up on the Senate website.
Meantime, how about revisiting the witlessness and un-wisdom of Bernanke?

Sen. Jim DeMint tweets: “By confirming Bernanke, the Senate rubber-stamped a failed economic policy. Bernanke’s easy-money policy fueled the housing bubble and his push for Wall Street bailouts made things worse.”
Obama inherits Bush policy — and keeps it.

I’ve changed my mind about this guy. He is weak for sure.
Just when I think my two Senators (Barrasso, Enzi the accountant) are starting to get it, they pull this crap.
Re-elect no one 2010, 2012.
The bankers were complicit in the financial debacle, too. And, they have maintained employment, as well.
Shaking head.
Forget, “I could have been a contender” (“On the Waterfront”) Heck, I could have been a banker.
Good. This is how it should be.
We gotta get this straight; either we don’t believe in Keynesian theory (most conservatives don’t) and therefore shouldn’t worry about B’s reappointment, or we believe strongly in Keynesian theory and should have a Keynesian like B in place. The only thing that worries me is that BO likes him.
I’m not that worried because I don’t see the central bank being that powerful, and he’s doing more to disrupt traditional economic thought than any Nobel laureate.
I wonder how the traitor voted.
For him, I’m sure.
More proof that Wall Street orgies have bipartisan support. Follow the campaign money.
I guess kirk from MA voted again? So much for the law!
L
I can’t believe that Coburn voted for this guy. Just when I was thinking of moving back to Oklahoma.
Eh, what else is new? The Senate has always been “all talk, no walk”.
DeMint is my hero.
Is it any surprise that particular handful of RINOs WOULD support that bonehead?
Were there any other applicants? Who is stupid enough to relieve the watch on the Titanic?
well at least he broke the record for no votes for a renomination…the previous was 14 I believe…cowards!!! bernake and geithner should both be behind bars…
don’t let that stop you…we have some things brewing here for the new legislative session…
That’s typical of government employees. The incompetent keeps their job.
I had a thought today….last night, during the SOTU, if aliens had transported the Capitol building to the other side of the universe, America would have woken up today and probably been better off.
Just a thought.
man, you can sure tell which rino senators are up for election this year. the big talking chest thumping weasels who, if reelected, by next january will be screaming can’t we all just get along. mccain needs to go to arizona, and devote his time to trying to convince his wife and daughter the virtues of conservatism, and the folly of liberalism.
Unbelievable
What are you celebrating exactly, Chap?
Well, Thomas, why don’t you contact the traitor, as you put it, and find out?
77-23 represents the lowest support of any Fed Chairman in history.
Screw-ups = promotion? It’s Thunderdome!
What do the following have in common?
Edward Smith – Captain RMS Titanic
Joseph Hazelwood – Captain Exxon Valdez
Ben Bernanke – Chairman Federal Reserve
*End the Fed and bounce Bernanke; It will happen once enough people with the right stuff occupy D.C.!
Well, did anyone think the idiots in the Senate who are complicit in this financial meltdown wouldn’t vote for Bernanke?
There were a couple of surprises but with 59 left-wing Marxists and about a baker’s dozen idiot GOP occupying space in the Senate there was no way Bernanke wasn’t going to get confirmed.
Firing him would have exposed Geithner and others so they had to keep him on. I won’t be surprised if he resigns before completing his term though. But, I do expect the shredders at the Fed will be working overtime the night before his term is up.
Another vote that seat warmer Paul Kirk had no business making.
Once again the DemocRATS have ignored the voice of the people. You know, the voice that Teddy said was so vital be heard – oh, never mind; that was back when he wanted to stop a RePUBlican [their enunciation] from appointing a successor to his seat [not!].
Now that we the people have spoken, as usual they’re ignoring us.
Do they really think we’re not paying attention? That we’re stupid?
Scratch that – we know that they do. OB said so in so many words.
BTW I realize that Kirk’s vote wasn’t decisive in this instance. that doesn’t alter the injustice being perpetrated against the voters of Massachusetts.
Coburn? That’s strange.
I was surprised by that one also.
Stuck on Stupid!
Did you hear what the traitor said during the SOTU speech in response to one of many of Obama’s ‘it’s not my fault’ moments? “Blame it on Bush”. I bet he was secretly bashing Bush, not defending him. What do you think?
I can see Snowe, Collins, Voinovich, and Gregg voting for it. But COBURN!?!?
Did he get confused or something?
Then again, the other side of this coin would be to boot Bernanke – Then Dear Leader appoints another Van Jonesesque Ivy League socialist economist which the silly senate would happily confirm.
Compared with who The One et al would come up with, perhaps Bernanke doesn’t look that bad.
