Obama to bring Reverse Midas Touch to Australia, Indonesia

The White House Blunder is headed Down Under.
Aussie reader Ruth e-mailed me tonight to flag President Obama’s upcoming visit to Australia. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s “popularity is sinking slowly” in an election year, Ruth writes, and “his almost evangelical support” of man-made global warming theory “is going to be the weighty millstone around his neck.”
Reverse Midas Touch powers, activate! Via the Courier Mail:
THE world’s most powerful man and his family are expected to bypass Brisbane when US President Barack Obama makes his first official trip Down Under. But Premier Anna Bligh is mounting a strong case to encourage the global political star to Queensland. Mr Obama and his entourage are expected to follow the lead of other high-profile visitors, such as Prince William, and not venture north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs yesterday said Mr Obama’s wife, Michelle, and their children, Sasha, 8, and Malia, 11, would join the US President on his trip. Details of the Obamas’ itinerary are a closely guarded secret.
Mr Rudd, who yesterday welcomed Mr Obama’s visit to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Australia-US diplomatic relations, was tight-lipped when asked which cities the US President would visit. “I don’t have an answer to that . . . and the reason is, it’s subject to continued discussion between ourselves and the White House,” he said.
Mr Obama will, however, be invited to address a joint sitting of the Australian Parliament in Canberra. “This is the way in which we respect the leaders of a great democracy and the United States is one,” Mr Rudd said. This could mean a scenario where Parliament is recalled in late March for Mr Obama’s visit.
The article notes that Obama is also scheduled to visit his childhood home in Indonesia…to save that statue, no doubt.

Well, it is good to see that Obama is not just content on wrecking America. I hope the Aussies appreciate everything he does to them. Otherwise, they will be called raaaacist…
Just one queston…won’t the smoke eminating from the “shrimp on the barbie” open a bigger hole in the O-Zone?
*I do wish P-BO and the first family a safe trip; I also wish he would take Thomas Sowell along for some helpful mentoring, but enough of such wishful thinking.
I smell freedom coming to Australia.
Who is this powerful man with a family that is bypassing Australia when Obama is there?
Hide your money mates…the cash vacuum is coming!
Crikey! The Barryfest World Tour continues.
Leaving the country again?
Must mean another “bad-news-for-the-country-obama-says” announcement or edict coming out of Washington before the end of the week that he won’t be here to answer for.
I would like to be the WH chef. No work. The Obamas are rarely home. On the other hand, being a secret service agent has to be a nightmare.
These guys don’t even get enough credit. They’ve really had their work cut out for them in the last 13 months.
*I smell a document dump or a firing on the horizon(Holder?)
*If P-BO were the Prime Minister of Australia, would they call him the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under?
Wonder if he will bow to the Prime Minister?
This lacks context without explaining in more detail Premier Bligh and Brisbane. Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with Australian politics.
Anyone care to provide more details?
OK, PM Rudd believes in man made global warming.
He went to pick-pocket kangaroos.
I didn’t realize America needed to apologize to Australia. After all, it is England who dumped all the convicts down there. One can hardly blame America for that…
Is Obambi going to bow to the Aussie PM or does he just do that for despots and mayors?
Couldn’t be that the “Courier-Mail” is a newspaper in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. No, that couldn’t be it. Besides, that would take much too much effort to discover that little detail. And I am guessing somebody isn’t too familiar with Aussie geography or the google search engine either…
…or both.
FIFY
The issue is not about geography. It is about why foreign visitors do not ‘venture north of Sydney Harbour Bridge’ as was stated in the excerpt provided by MM. Did you read what MM wrote?
There is the hint of something political going on here that is unclear on the surface. If you do not know, then say so, and let someone else provide some background on Australian politics and why foreign visitors do not visit Brisbane.
Cheney?
Sharks, Alligators, Snakes, Spiders…it’s just like being home in Chicago.
Really – it’s a Brisbane newspaper, and they have discussions like, “Why Do the Royals Snub Us?”
This video may have something to do with Obama’s phobia of Brisbane, Australia. I believe it brings back bad memories from his Indonesia childhood Madrasah days.
Snort! Thanks, MM, for the laugh!
wiggy ziggy,
I read what she wrote. The difference is that I understand what was written and you don’t. Do you see “dead people” too?
Remember, “entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem” is usually the best bet…
When does the POTUS not travel all around the world on our dime for
town hallcampaign stops. All this form the same man who criticized Corp. execs for flying on private jets they own.
For a president who claims to put a high value on education, he seems to take Sasha and Malia out of school quite often for these tax-payer funded vacations around the world. Nancy Pelosi seems to be doing the same with her grandchildren at taxpayer expense.
At least with Obama, we can vote him out of office after 4 years. But, unless we live in San Francisco, we can’t vote against Pelosi. Her use of Federal funds for travel and expenses amounts to taxation without representation. Her congressional district should have to foot the bill for her expenses since they voted her into office and are the only ones who can give her the boot.
Papa Louie said
yeah. my support if you get something going about this.
FOX News just showed a clip of Obama lecturing on healthcare with a football analogy. He said we are in the “red zone”.
That’s the first honest thing he has said in years even if he didn’t realize it. We are in the Communist Red Zone. Comrade Obama, you are no longer fooling anyone. Your days as president are swiftly fading.
Hey, time to fire up Air Force-One again. Better put in an order for a few more airplanes because at the rate he is going, metal fatigue is sure to set in pretty soon. I guess Global Warming takes a back seat when it comes to Barack, Michelle and the kids going on a nifty shopping trip to Australia. The Nobel “Flying Your Ass Off” prize goes to Barack Hussein. Also honorable mention for “Most speeches given in any measurable time unit known to man”.
Speaking of Obama, looks like he got himself banned from Las Vegas:
Anyone know if this is another historical first for a President or have others been “banned” from a US city?
Very well, this is from the excerpt -
Mr Obama and his entourage are expected to follow the lead of other high-profile visitors, such as Prince William, and not venture north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Why do high profile visitors not venture north of Sydney Harbour Bridge?
Is it geography, political, or some other reason?
Ah… Indonesia… one of his three birth-places.
Maybe the community organizer will organize the aboriginals….
Well, it looks like it’s time for a nice trip to Australia, isn’t it. Nothing like relaxing with the family “down-under” while celebrating the announcement of your world-record economy-busting deficits. Eat a shrimp for us, Barack.
Maybe since it’s “reverse Midas” we should just start calling it the Sadim touch.
Sounds muslim to me…
Elaine: “Maybe a Dingo ate your baby!”
Just before he apologizes for the way Tom Cruise treated Nicole Kidman.
Maybe this guy’s advisors should have let him know we’re a Republic.
So the new & improved Whitehouse is now hyper-focussed on the economy and jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. Got it.
Did we mention jobs? So we’re going to Austrailia and Indonesia to talk up Global Warming and visit Dear Leader’s home town.
Cost of trip? +/- $150Mil
Carbon Footprint? POTUS fleet consumes +/- 50 tons jetA/hour x 30 hr round trip – 1500 tons
Jobs saved or created? Between 0 and 5000 (Subject to variable data input and analysis and the alignment of Mars and Neptune at solstice)
Hypocrisy level? Incalculable.
The mayor of Las Vegas calling out our illustrious captain of the ship of fools just about convinced me to change my mind about visiting Vegas – but aren’t many of the major hotel employees members of SEIU?
It’s odd he’s taking those children out of school again to flit around the world when everything he’s worked to do is hanging in the balance here at home? A Friday night dump or is his thieves in sheep’s clothing going to go for a big vote on sumptin that’s going to generate a lot of flak?
wiggy ziggy,
I think you have finally found your life’s calling and quest. Venture forth and tarry not and bring your peculiar intellectual gifts to bear on this question. I expect we shall have an answer around the time the universe reaches maximum entropy…
Walterc that is flipping hilarious!!!
If you can’t or don’t know the answer to a question, just say so.
The issue is that I know the answer. You clearly don’t know the question…
LOL.
I can no longer take you seriously.
Did you check my link? The article follows on the general discussion of being snubbed by Royals, and the general thread is that Queensland sucks so no one wants to go there.
War Eagle clearly understood, and gave you the answer….
BTW, I have been to Brisbane, and cannot recommend the Gold Coast highly enough.
Well, I haven’t taken you seriously since your first post.
Now off to Brisbane! I’ll contribute to a one way ticket as long as you promise not to come back…
My apologies, I missed your post #18. I search for my screen name to address comments directed at me. Had your comment contained my screen name, I would have responded sooner. This does not mean that I only respond when I see my screen name, it just makes it easier.
Your answer in the form of the link provided is excellant. Thank you. It provides the context, background and information that was absent from what MM posted.
The reason foreign visitors do not venture north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge is because Brisbane is considered a backwater, despite it’s strong support of the Monarchy.
Really? Cut and paste War Eagle’s answer to the question about why foreigners do not venture north.
Nope. Only you and you alone provided an answer. And, as I said an excellant one.
That is good to know. I would one day like to travel to Australia, and should that happen, I will make every effort to include Brisbane.
Thanks again for answering the question.
Like I said, wiggy ziggy, we understood the answer while you were struggling with the question…
