The revolt against individual health insurance mandates

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 2, 2010 09:43 AM

Last month, I told you about the state uprising against federal Demcare insurance mandates in Colorado and elsewhere.

The revolt continues to spread. Virginia’s Democrat-controlled Senate is the latest to reject the coercion:

Virginia’s Democratic-controlled state Senate passed measures Monday that would make it illegal to require individuals to purchase health insurance, a direct challenge to the party’s efforts in Washington to reform health care.

The bills, a top priority of Virginia’s “tea party” movement, were approved 23 to 17 as five Democrats who represent swing areas of the state joined all 18 Republicans in the chamber in backing the legislation.

The votes came less than a week after President Obama implored Democrats in Washington not to abandon their health-care efforts, urging them in his State of the Union address not to “run for the hills” on the issue.

But the action in Virginia, a state that backed Obama in 2008, could indicate that the president is failing to reassure members of his own party that current reform efforts remain worthwhile. The votes also suggest that Democrats on the state level fear that supporting health-care reform could be politically damaging, and their action could put pressure on members of the state’s congressional delegation who have been behind the effort.

Who’s the Party of No now?

If the Feds want programs fine. They can fund them. This passing the burden to the states needs to end five munutes ago.

Someone who is an extreme liberal idealogue (Obama) scares the crap out of me because no matter how much uproar, he’s going to press on.

One type can be persuaded to know when they’re wrong. The other only gets more adamant even when overwhelming evidence proves them wrong.

This is the one aspect that I think frightens people the most about Obama.

The only hope of averting some truly awful possibilities is for the states to rein in the federal government. The states need to remind the federal government that the states created the central government and ultimately hold the power in this nation.

This is a good step. The TEA Party movement and the 10th Amendment movement are other good steps. A really good next step would be to vote Marxists and “fellow travelers” out of office in November.

I am so glad they feel I am expendable and thank God the states are beginning to see this power grab for what it is and are putting a stop to it.I might even live through the Obama administration.

After living in MA for a few weeks, she got a “ticket” from the State of MA for “failing to have health insurance coverage”. The fine was over $400! She had not accessed any healthcare services during that 30-day waiting period. She cost the government nothing. She cost the people of MA nothing. She had to pay a fine for living in MA for 30 days without health insurance.
First of all: How did they KNOW she was there and that she did not have healthcare coverage? Maybe she had COBRA from her prior job?
Secondly: Is this REALLY how we want our “law enforcement” spending their time??

But as Glenn Beck said, the Saul Alinsky Progressives will accelerate their hell bound agenda when they are in trouble. Obama’s team, though incompetent, definitely have plans to control our lives should something major happen to our financial system. Rahm “dead fish” Emanuel is scheming should there be a terrorist action domestically or a trigger mechanism to crash the stock market. The Republicans couldn’t stop the bill in the House or Senate, and with Reid not swearing Brown in for another nine days (why Brown isn’t suing or the Republicans aren’t howling, I don’t know) the Democrats could pass any legislation they wanted without a Republican vote.

Of course, mandates to buy insurance probably wouldn’t pass Constitutional scrutiny, unless Kennedy or one of the Constitutionalists dies and is replaced by another activist communist.

Georgia’s taking it a step further than Virginia. State senator Seth Harp has introduced a Constitutional amendment to exempt Georgians from health care reform. This covers not just the insurance mandate, but the whole steaming Obamacare turd pile, and would not just be a law, but placed in the state constitution! It has a good chance of passing.

This would bring a direct constitutional challenge to Obamacare that could even kill it in SCOTUS.

Those would be my exact thoughts too. TX or FL. This state is full of left wing hate-filled liberals. Too bad we don’t have a real conservative voice in this state. Michele Bachmann has her hands full with D.C. I’ve stopped rolling my eyes and walking away when liberals (even RINO friends) try to convince me Conservative politicians and their ideas are bad for MN. I’ve educated myself on the facts, news from Malkin’s blog and stand my ground until they walk away in disgust or realize the faults of their beliefs. I don’t care if there are 100 liberals in the room, I stand my ground. The movie 300 has nothing on us minuscule Conservatives in Minnesota. Challenging liberals has become a trap shooting sport for me.

My 66 year old mother had a lung transplant 1-1/2 years ago. She had private health care insurance on a limited pension and savings. Hell, I gave up time from business, personal time and my finances to help her like a REAL MAN and like a family member is suppose to. Under Obama, she would be forced to take a pain pill and die. I recite that quote directly from Obama when anyone says ObamaCare is good for the country and the people. The seriousness of my voice and stare of my eyes usually puts a surprise look on their faces. I also note NO ONE IS DENIED MEDICAL CARE right now. Hit the emergency room and you get care. Otherwise get off your rear and call around for Health Insurance Quotes. MOST people CAN afford it… you don’t need your expensive cell phones, cable tv, fancy cars, overpriced residences and maxed out credit cards used for frivolous purchases. As Malkin has noted numerous times, the people Democrats use as examples of those who claim to be denied medical services actually have financial assets or free access to health care. Lies Lies Lies.
