Paying tribute to the Navy Corpsman
You’ll notice I haven’t pounded on President Obama’s mispronunciation of “corpsman.”
I guess I’m all gaffetastic-ked out this week.
Instead, let’s use the opportunity to spread the word about the great work the Navy Corpsmen do.
Milblogger Herschel Smith at Captain’s Journal pays tribute here. Read the whole thing. He concludes:
“Navy Corpsmen are worth their weight in gold, and even if the Commander in Chief isn’t smart enough to know how to pronounce their billet, we have the utmost respect for them.”

Secondly, we know he didn’t know he spoke wrongly because he spoke wrongly THREE times during the same speech. That means he either didn’t know (ignorance), or he knew and was deliberately insulting.

Frankly I do not have the time. In fewest words you ignore the obvious there is not a whole lot to say. How many examples of tax cheats (Geithner), radicals (Jones), and incompetents (Napalitano) do you need to be convinced about Obama’s ability to find good appointees.
He clearly knows NOTHING of military affairs. If you do not recognize the examples, you never will. Example, cancelling the missile shield in Europe then finding out two months later Iran can now put a missile right in the engagement envelope. OOOOPS!

In terms of how Federal Administration works in places like the VA, I have seen government organizations at 50 percent staffing and things still got signed. They may have not gotten done, but never through lack of a signature.
If you cannot see what Obama is by now, you won’t, investing time to make you see the obvious has no ROI.

Get out your map and see for yourself if placing the missile defense system in Poland would be effective against Iran. Would it be more effective in Turkey? Greece? NATO members, mind you? Is it more effective to shoot down Iraninan missile on their way up, or on their way down?
We were told that the missile defense defense was to deal with Iran, but the criticism has been because Pres Obama considered Russia’s concerns. How does the missile defense protect Turkey and Greece from Poland?

Yes. Enemy combatants are given the right to not self incriminate. That does not eliminate the enemy combatants from incriminating or providing information on others. Do you understand the difference?
On this issue we disagree. The correct people have to sign the documents. The VP cannot sign a bill into law. Yes, or no? Look at it this way. Although there are “Czars” advising the President on any number of issues, they cannot sign anything with regard to the Agencies they advise him on. There is a specific requirement for Presidential nominated and Senate approved individuals to do specific tasks, like sign documents.
What I see in this thread is that he mis-pronounced the word ‘corpsman’. You making more of it, in the face of a Senator putting 70 nominees on hold, and accepting that, says more about you then it can ever say about Pres Obama.

What’s all the fuss about corpseman? Last kuh-ni-get, Call-O-Nell Oliver North was talking about it. That’s just mean. We all kuh-no that Obama is brill-i-ant and not dum-bah like Bush. Besides lots of immigrants have problems with silent letters in English.
Whenever the Federal Government can’t get things done, it is so much better for us.
Obama’s shine is lack luster now. I believe his approval numbers are way higher due to people terrified to say they do not approve with the possible thought that a phone operator may think they are RACIST!! No way this guy would top 40% of a vote today. I used to cringe when George W. had to speak publicly, but despite all of his gaffes he was much better at the job than what we have now.
Why is it every 25 years or so Americans seem to want to flirt with socialism, then when they get it they run away? Seriously 52% of America, did you really think you had it that bad? When it comes down to it, I think there are only about 15% of you who will never be happy and will always be looking for some type of change. Hopefully some of you will realize not all change is good.

As a retired Naval Officer, and a former Corpsman, HM2 from 68-72, I’d rather be called Devil Doc from the Marines I served with. In reality, Obama’s mispronunciation of Corpsman is too common to waste much time on.
It is not just mispronunciation of this word, last week in Ohio, he pronounced wreaking as wrecking. Either the Teleprompter had the wrong word, or he doesn’t know the correct pronunciation (a smart person would have recognized the spelling error and corrected for a misspelled word). If he were truly as brilliant as some in the MSM claim, he would not make such elemental mistakes.
While I personally don’t care about these mistakes, it does point out that he isn’t as smart as claimed, and it only highlights the hypocrisy of the MSM.
Look at the feeding frenzy they had about Dan Quayle (and “potatoe”), and the uproars they all had over “Bushisms”. A co-worker even had a 365 page a day calendar that had some error or garbled sentence spoken by Bush on each day. Will we ever see something like this for Obama? I doubt it – even though he makes gaffes like this at about the same rate as Bush did (check out his nonsensical comment about peace in the Middle East).
It is just like so many other liberal patterns – record heat waves are a result of global warming, while record cold snaps are just weather. Garbled sentences or words are proof of stupidity, but only if spoken by a Republican. Stupid comments by a Republican are racist or mean, but racist or demeaning comments by a Democrat are just stupid, and should be excused.

When Bush spoke off the cuff he was pretty good, Obama on the other hand is a train wreck. Obama has a hell of a lot more gaffe’s than Bush ever did and we are just getting started. I am sure his handlers cringe everytime Obowma speaks off prompter. I wondered why Obowma never holds press conferences. I think it’s pretty obvious why.
How about “New Pennslyvania”? Or a “breathalizer”? Or 57 states? Oh I could go on but you get the idea. Obama off teleprompter makes Dan Q or Bush look pretty damn good. Obowma’s pronunciation of “Corps” is just one of many many stupid things that have came out of his pie-hole.

Now having gone through the thread, I agree with most posters that this “misspeak” is symptamatic of a larger problem. As we’ve been told by the MSM, He’s a super smart guy. So, why can’t he read?
As for a particular poster I have a question. You say you have 20 years of Federal service. Were you at work when you made all of these posts? I ask because I’m pretty sure you have to live by a Code of Computer Ethics. If you are posting from a work computer, you are in violation of that code.

I just read through this thread, as I have been gone for a while. I was going to mention the “breathalizer” gaffe, but see it has already been covered. To me, that was really really a stupid remark. Not just the breathalizer word, but the whole statement about not wasting a hospital bed on a kid with asthma when it could be avoided by just giving him a “breathalizer”. My daughter has asthma, and so do my husband and I. I assume Obama doesn’t, but chances are, he will get asthma later in life if he continues to smoke. Maybe then he will understand what it is like to have trouble breathing and possibly need a hospital bed. If they want to give him a breathalizer for his asthma and send him home, that is fine with me. But I would rather use Albuteral, or Symbicort, and if that doesn’t work, I would like them to take care of me at a hospital. And I would love to have a bed while I am there and not sleep in the hallway.

You could be on to something there. zzzzzzzzzzzz started out as appearing to lean right, but as time has progressed, he is showing more and more he is a leftie, and someone who continually tries to get us off track. I have fallen for that many times because it is so easy to want to respond to stupid remarks! I do think LGM was a bit nastier, but zzzzzzzzzz will probably get there in time. I have to say I was more shocked by this “corpsman” blunder than most anything to date. I don’t see how they can excuse or minimize their way out of this one. It’s obviously a lot more significant than a simple pronunciation problem–it demonstrates appalling ignorance and/or disregard of even basic military terminology by the commander in chief. I don’t think any of us could have imagined such a glaring example.
Me corpsman with Marines from 1972-1976. Obama can say the word however his little head and heart wants. Does not matter to me.

This is symbolic of where our government is going — zzyzzg wants to know why 70-odd appointees are on hold by some Senator. Well, perhaps we DON’T need another Deputy Assistant Undersecretary to the Deputy Assistant Secretary to the Deputy Principal Undersecretary of Defense or Veteran Affairs or Transportation, or Education, or Energy or State, etc, etc, etc, ad infinitum. We have WAY too many government officials now and I would argue they are no more efficient with that many — perhaps we should just fail to fill everything below Secretary of …. and let them earn their keep, stay at home and justify their existence by producing for the people, not just signing pieces of paper and campaigning for the POTUS by extolling all the good work they are supposedly doing.
I was a NAVY Corpsman during the Viet Nam War and I would like to discuss how his error in pronunciation made me feel. I will not, because this zzigy guy rambles on and on. I would like him removed from this site. Michelle, would you please consider it?
