Thursday night delight: Patrick Kennedy not seeking re-election; Update: Farewell video added
Scroll for updates…

Patrick Kennedy decides not to wait and see whether there’s another Scott Brown in the wings.
Via Boston.com:
A Democratic official says Rep. Patrick Kennedy has decided not to seek re-election for his seat representing Rhode Island in the U.S. Congress.
The official spoke to The Associated Press only on the condition that his name not be used because he was not authorized to speak ahead of the official announcement.
The decision by the eight-term congressman comes less than a month after a stunning Republican upset in the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat his late father, Edward Kennedy, held for almost half a century.

Flashback: Patrick Kennedy: Scott Brown’s candidacy ‘a joke’
The writing on the wall, via Ed Morrissey last week:
If the voters in Massachusetts can close out the Kennedy legacy, apparently so can the voters in Rhode Island. Patrick Kennedy has held his Congressional seat for eight terms of office, clinging to his office even an embarrassing revelation of addiction a few years ago. However, Kennedy may not be able to withstand the anti-incumbent fervor in what has been a state almost as reliably blue as Massachusetts (via JWF):
John Loughlin is not named in the poll, but he may have fared far better than the elected officials who were.
Nearly 6 in 10 registered voters in the First Congressional District would consider another candidate or vote to replace Loughlin’s opponent, U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, according to a WPRI-TV, Channel 12 survey released Thursday night.
The poll offers a snapshot of an abysmal political climate for Democrats that could present serious problems for the eight-term incumbent Kennedy, according to pollster Joseph Fleming.
“It looks like it could be a very competitive race, which we haven’t seen in many years,” Fleming said, noting that Election Day is still nine months away. “I think people, right now, are really looking at who’s in office, and they’re considering somebody else.”

That one needs rehab
I sometimes wondered if he ever wanted to go into politics or if the family just sent him to Providence College to set him up for politics. Without Teddy, perhaps he said, “Screw this.”
He’s wasted so much of his life and the taxpayers’ money. Maybe he’ll get a real job, but it’s more likely he’ll end up in one of the family foundations.
Buh-bye, Patches! I’m not sorry to see you go!!
*Here’s hoping he dedicates the rest of his life to finding Mary Jo’s killer!
I knew there was a reason why I stayed up so late (at least for me). Seeing the end of Camelot is worth the lack of sleep.
Being in office interferes with his drug use. He has enough money to supply himself for awhile. Besides the voters might be getting suspicious.
Don’t let the door hit you in the arse on your way out!
The sooner this corrupt political/family dynasty is over, the better for the republic as a whole.
Actually very interesting to hear Kennedy won’t seek reelection. Is Rhode Island too liberal a state to elect a conservative candidate? Is there anyone on the radar that could have a chance of winning there? Could the Tea Party movement find someone to endorse and organize an effective campaign for his seat, the people’s seat?
Questions I have, answers I don’t.
Camelot, G.F.Y.
Prick.
Just attended a tea party meeting in Virginia and I think we are challenging all liberals in the state house and senate. Most of these are gerrimandered so it is hard to find people to run, but I think they are coming out of the woodwork. Even the Dems must be getting the hint that you can’t unring a bell.
{Ding, ding. Ding, ding.}
1MC:“AFK, Departing.”
DooooooWHEEEEEEEEoooooooooooooWHEEEEEeeeeeeee
I think this arrogant and spoiled brat is upset that Scott Brown won his Dad’s seat in Massachusets.
He is likely to move back to Massachusetts and fulfil the residency requirements (for the Senate run in 2012) so that he can contest for his Dad’s seat.
Is there a law that says all Kennedys must have the same silly surfer haircut?
Off topic, but did anyone else see that Biden is claiming that Iraq is, “could be one of the great achievements of this administration.”
Talk about delusions.
I hope the Republicans are smart enough to run an actual conservative.
I’m not holding my breath.

A few years ago one of the junior Kennedy’s–this guy?–came to Las Cruces, NM on a globull warming jihad–in February. He stood in the almost dry Rio Grande riverbed and told the assembled press that global warming was causing severe water shortages. Then he got on the big bird in El Paso and went back to the Beltway.
***
His brief “fact” finding mission was on the evening news. Then a local farmer stated that of course the river was nearly dry–at this time of the year most of the water was being stored in the two man-made lakes a hundred miles upriver so it could be used during the growing season! The farmer’s report never made the T.V. news.
***
I hope this is the same guy–since he is leaving.

@ rocketman: heh.
does anyone remember when Al Gore’s people had a river level raised by releasing dam water so he could make a photo-op trip on a raft for campaign purposes???
These people are such utter frackin phonies!
Amazing. Just like that. They’re skittering into the ether. Good bye Kennedys. We knew ya, alright; and it’s wasn’t good.
it’s=it
They’re dropping like flies!
Let’s raise a toast to Kennedy’s departure,
…hiccup…stumble…sway…
Cheers!
I guarantee this is not the last we’ve heard of him.
He’ll get arrested again for drunk driving.
Bump Bump Bump, Bu-dumpa-dump Ba-dump!
Bump Bump Bump, Bu-dumpa-dump Ba-dump!
Another one’s gone!
And another one’s gone!
Another One Bites The Dust!
Whack whack, whack-whack a-wacka-wacka!
Whack whack whack, a-whack-whack a-whacka-whacka!…
He’s moving to Mass, fulfilling the residency requirement, waiting for the sheople to go back to sleep, then he’ll run to get “Teddy’s seat back” once Brown gets the big-head and forgets why he was elected.
The Kennedy’s will never get out of politics, it’s their gold-mine that’s kept them in power for a hundred years. They’re merely pausing to let the wave of retribution pass.
But we can all hope.
I’ll drink to that.
So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, good-bye…
Let’s just hope he never emerges from his cave to run for another election of any kind.
These creepy libs have a way of making comebacks…..like they have been reborn into something more fantastic than they used to be. It wouldn’t surprise me for him to show up again. He has no conscience and he thinks very highly of himself.
Maybe we will see him on the next season of “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew?
Is this how Cambodians felt when they got rid of Pol Pot?
Been fun, P-trick. Peace out.
Errah AMF, Jackhole!
So is he gone or are the people of New England stuck in a re-run in “The Night of the Living Dead”?
The people of Africa have locust
Asia has Cholera
South America has Army Ants
We have Kennedys
Goodbye, Rhode Island. Hello, Massachusetts!
Michelle:
From your words to God’s eyes.
How fast the rats jump from the sinking ship….winds of change, oh, they are a’blowin…bout dang time too!
Keep praying, we may get our country back after all! All I can say is “God’s speed!”
Dems dropping like flies! I hate to say it but we all owe a debt of gratitude to our Dear Leader as none of this would have been possible without his bold yet nuanced leadership (plus a shout out to his team of best and brightest and smartest person in the room blah, blah blah… as well). I think we need a name for this phenomenon, maybe the Obama Effect.
I bet it was his equally useless cousin RFK, Jr. – the one who predicted a few years ago that there would never be another snowy winter in Washington, D.C.
Maybe. Liberalism on parade, and no longer hiding it anymore.
Excellent! “the Obama effect.” He want’s to go down in history, let that be his legacy!
This news is almost too good to be true – DC will be Kennedy-free? I wouldn’t have thought this possible a few years ago. I figured that as long as New England remains part of the US, there would always be Kennedy’s polluting the halls of Congress.
The Kennedys and Bidens of the Progressive snake world are not quitting, they are just beating a calculated retreat until things “quiet down”. Then they’ll slip back into the bird’s nest and resume eating the eggs at their leisure. They may be wicked but they’re not stupid.
State by State…….
Bye, Bye Libs!
Agreed.
As you and other posters have said, this may likely be merely a short-term tactic as part of his overall, long-term strategy.
We must remain ever vigilant.
Has any of these rich – meaning that they never have to work for a living – Kennedys ever held an actual, real job?
Do they know how to do anything else except draw a nice paycheck for “public service”?
“the Obama effect” was jsr’s, not mine.
Not just Obama, but all of them collectively. Obama just happens to be the main puppet with the most exposure.
Sure are a lot of Dems choosing not to run for re-election.
The Dems may end up with a cleaner house than the Republicans.
(If you catch my drift.)
This is the kind of “Change” Obama has brought to his Party. Well done, Mr. President.
Another Tea Party victim. We are purging the system bit by bit. The ones who insisted on self-service until death are dying and others are simply quitting in the face of adversity.
It’s great being us.
The Kennedy’s are a curse on this country. Is the day finally at hand when we have seen the last of them and their baleful influence? One can only hope.
I’m surprised the twit didn’t blame global warming for his leave-taking. GFR.
We can also
thankhimblame him for adding mental health coverage mandates to the TARP.Yes, my premiums went up this year because of government-mandated health insurance included in the TARP bill. They are trying to destroy the private health insurance market.
Perhaps all the snow in D.C. was the final straw for the global warmer warrior.
why are my posts not taking…hmmmm
maybe he can get a job with some sleep aid company…lol
When Obama said “hope and change” he meant it…BWWAAHHAAAAA!!!!
Think of it as welfare for drunks.
The Kennedys have a sense of entitlement about being big shots in Wash, DC. They are “grooming” the next generation, since this group has been such a dismal failure. Rest assured, “they’ll be back.”
Good one! Kennedys, please go now.
Errah can someone please pack that crapweasel Kennedy wannabe; Jim Moran’s (D)VA bags and get him on the next Amtrak to Boston? Amtrak high speed rail to DC just expedites liberal jackholes to Congress/DC and takes back bags of taxpayers cash on the return leg of the trip.
At long last… No Kennedy’s in American politics. This is like getting rid of Herpes.
Good riddance.
Once upon a time…
If an expose of the original Camelot were to be done, undoubtedly King Arthur would be found to have a drunken sleazy brother who’s kid rode to power based solely on the accomplishments of his uncle. The Kennedy Camelot “dynasty”, if it really ever was one, ended in 1963.
The End
I disagree with those of you who think this loser or any other Kennedy will continue to plague us in the future. We really are witnessing the Fall of the House of Usher. It’s slow but it is happening.
The Kennedy Mystique(TM) is a product of the mid-20th century and its only real remnant is in a Boomer-controlled MSM. As robo-Kennedy voters in the NE age and move away to Florida or die, younger voters left behind are looking for something else. Gen Xers and Yers don’t venerate the Kennedy clan. We’re not fascinated with them. None of us remember “Camelot.” John John’s been dead for 11 years. He was the only real last hope of that family. Otherwise you have a bunch of entitled addicts and brats.
The beginning of the end was Kathleen Townsend, who later became Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, losing her shot at governor of Maryland to a Republican. Then came Caroline
SchlossbergKennedy’s failed attempt to get appointed to Hillary Clinton’s seat. She lost out to an unknown pol from upstate. Then God imposed His term limit on Ted Kennedy, and a Republican got elected to take his place. Now this guy has read the writing on the wall and is bailing out. Sure RFK Jr. will continue to annoy us for a while and the family still has its wealth built on Grandpa Joe’s bootlegging and on foundation money, but the days of the Great Kennedy Political Dynasty are coming to an end.It all starts with a law degree…
Actually it starts with family and connections that get you into Harvard Law.
Then family and connections that get you through Harvard.
Then a law degree.
Bye-bye! Without his father around, he was finally doomed. May others follow in his foot steps and resign before anymore unconstitutional legislation gets passed.
So one of the many Obama legacies will be the demise of the Kennedy Crime Family legacy?
Liberation Day!
Back in Nov. my husband said to let the “darn” Dems have EVERYTHING!
When they totally screw up our country, hopefully the true Americans can take it back and repair the damage.
I’m married to a very smart Patriot!!!
I cheered when this popped up on Fox last night! I am so happy that the swimmers spawn is finally admitting he is grossly incompetent and – no wait he never admits that now does he??? I am bummed – he is such a boob that we will miss him – to kick around.
Here in Rhode Island they will cry a river as the old poops loved patches – he brought home the pork and that was all that mattered to some.
Absolutely agree. The cumulation of the lot of them does not measure up to JFK. Yes, he had his flaws and had policies I disagreed with.
But JFK was an American first, a patriot, and someone who knew evil when he saw it. No Kennedy who followed him could be described in those terms.
If GW Bush had given some of JFK’s speeches the Left of today would have declared him a reactionary war monger.
Without regard to politics his death was as dark a day as this country has ever had. I pray we never see it again. I still think that the day he died so did the respect for the Presidency. From that day to now, Presidents have been vilified in ways that do our country no good. It is not a good thing. That attitude in a large part gave us Obama.
It’s great that he’s quitting. He’ll be able to concentrate on what he does best. Doing drugs and driving while he’s drunk.
Patrick Kennedy is essentially a tragic figure. He is a lightweight intellectually and never had a real job in his life. The Kennedys did not know what to do with Patrick so they bought him a Congressional seat in Rhode Island. His first opponent in Rhode Island was a physician who demolished Patrick in the one debate they had. But this is Rhode Island after all so Kennedy money and adulation bought him the seat. Patrick was plainly bored and disinterested in his work. Yes, it did beat carrying a lunch box but Patrick never cared much for the job. He was not much of a gladhander and a terrible public speaker. But it is what the Kennedys ask their young to do. Patrick would probably have been happier tending bar in Boston and yukking it up with the drunks.
Is that it? No more Camelot Commies to get rid of?
Driving over a bridge? Wouldn’t that be justice.
LOL this guy is the pimple on the bloated ass that was the latter and most awful half of the Kennedy empire. talk about a lightweight. now I’m sure he’ll ruin some foundation or something.
it’s like a weird alternate Austin Powers; as soon as Dr Evil dies, Mini-Me heads for the hills LOL
or would Patrick be Scott Evil? hmmm, I shall ponder while I’m cracking open the champagne and watching all the global warming covering DC, TX and FL.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Keep that neckbrace handy, you know the one that keeps popping up in Kennedy photos.
I have my Dad’s handkerchief, Patrick has Ted’s post-dwi-photo-op neckbrace.
I just read my retired RINO Republican Jim Ramstad of Minnesota lay down a Valentines Day smooch to Kennedy on one of our local tv news sites. The GOP was notorious for keeping this liberal in Republican clothing elected for over 20 years. The GOP leadership is still a disaster.
KSTP.com,
Un-Freaking-Believable! I assume Dole, Gingrich, McCain, Graham and all the other old RINO dinosaurs will attend Kennedy’s going away parties.
A contradiction of terms.
Ends with a whimper. Can’t these lying liars who lie tell the truth EVEN ONCE before they ride off into the sunset? Good riddance creep.
