Snort of the morning

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 11, 2010 09:28 AM

Vice President Joe Biden credits his boss — the poster child of the post-achievement era — with securing Iraq and calls it “one of the great achievements of this administration.”

Not the soldiers, not the architects of the surge that the commander-in-chief opposes, not the Bush administration that listened to surge advocates and changed course.

Gall, via Andrew Malcom at the LAT:

Now, the Obama-Biden pair that opposed the Iraq war and its tactics and predicted their failure is prepared to accept credit for its success.

It seems that Biden, who’s from Delaware when he’s in Delaware and Pennsylvania when in Pennsylvania, is certain now that Iraq will turn out to be one of the Obama-Biden administration’s greatest achievements.

No, really.

Here’s how Biden put it to Lar:

I am very optimistic about — about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You’re going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You’re going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

I spent — I’ve been there 17 times now. I go about every two months — three months. I know every one of the major players in all the segments of that society. It’s impressed me. I’ve been impressed how they have been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences.

Biden did not elaborate on what all the administration’s other “great achievements” were so far.

What you inherited (as the saying goes) in Iraq from the previous administration was the job of boasting about a job well done by Bush and Cheney. A task that everyone hated them for and not many here at home helped them. Only the troops stood by them. Of course we know when it comes to boasting—–no body messe with Joe!

No. Bidden is correct. Obama-Biden measures major success by what major campaign promises succeed, come hell or high water.

They’ve released the Iranian-backed terrorists that kidnapped and murdered 5 U.S. soldiers in Karbala in the name of reconciliation. Meaning, to hell with justice, just achieve the campaign promise of withdrawal. By way of thanks, that same group turned around kidnapped a U.S. civilian contractor in January.

President Barack Obama said only this about Iraq, during his State of the Union Address:

“As we take the fight to al Qaeda, we are responsibly leaving Iraq to its people. As a candidate, I promised that I would end this war, and that is what I am doing as President. We will have all of our combat troops out of Iraq by the end of this August. We will support the Iraqi government as they hold elections, and continue to partner with the Iraqi people to promote regional peace and prosperity. But make no mistake: this war is ending, and all of our troops are coming home.”

Was that a loss, win or tie? If someone won, which side, and who and what made victory possible? America won, our coalition won, and the people of Iraq won. Together, we won by force of arms and staying the course, despite the mistakes made — as they are always made — in the fog of war, growing political opposition (including by Obama and Biden) at home, and enemy opposition on the battlefield.

It was our military victory, paid for with American blood. Obama-Biden will pat themselves on the back while uttering ‘I’ and ‘we’ (meaning them alone) statements after trying to undermine a military victory. They can’t claim it and will never honor it.

I think they already have. I can’t find the exact quote, but I remember reading how Reagan, when he heard donks talking about “How we won the Cold War” retorted, “Who’s this ‘we?’”

After all, if Hope-a-Dope had stuck to his original schedule, we’d have completely bugged out of Iraq months ago and left it to al Qaeda. And you just know who they’d be blaming for that “Last chopper out of Saigon” reprise.

It really must be nice to live in an alternate universe, where “history” begins when you get out of bed in the morning, “intellectual consistency” is a phrase that draws blank stares and no matter which way things go, you are always right in the end.

Well, it looks like they let Biden out of his office on his own (or did he climb out a window) and he blew it again. It’s back to solitary confinement for another 3 months for you Joe.

Meanwhile that bonehead Gibbs can’t answer the question about the fact troop withdrawls were already decided upon before Obowma was elected. But now the Obowma admin wants to take all of the credit. That is laughable, but also disgusting. I certainly haven’t forgot all of the hand wringing and defeatism on the left!

    Typical liberal behavior.

Bush signed off on $700 billion TARP fund. So Bush is blamed for the TARP deficit.

But Obama and his minions are running around claiming that they are the one who stabilized the big banks and the financial markets.

OBAMA: We cannot impose a military solution on what has effectively become a civil war. And until we acknowledge that reality, uh, we can send 15,000 more troops; 20,000 more troops; 30,000 more troops. Uh, I don’t know any, uh, expert on the region or any military officer that I’ve spoken to, uh, privately that believes that that is gonna make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.

    10 JAN 10

BIDETN: am very optimistic about — about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You’re going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You’re going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

The surge in Iraq isn’t “gonna make a substantial difference on the ground,” but the surge in Afghanistan is going to do wonders.

    This bunch is pitiful.

The nice thing about Biden being VP is that he has no power. All he has is the President of the Senate office. He can’t even participate in debates or vote, unless it’s tied. Thinking about it, if there has to be an office that Biden has to have, it is the VP office. “Worthless than a bucket of spit” (Spit wasn’t the original word).

zyzzyg: Are you saying the Bush administration was planning to leave them there?

    No.

I did not specifically mention Pres Bush in my comment, though I did say that the withdrawal agreement happened before Pres Obama was sworn in. That means that the previous Administration successfully put together a withdrawal agreement.

    No.

The apprentice gets credit for wiping the paint splatters off the frame.
