I posted this perfect Oba-kabuki photoshop last week, but it’s worth re-posting as the curtains open on the Great Bogus “Bipartisan” Health Care Summit. As noted earlier this morning, everyone’s favorite GOP Senate collaborator with the big government Dems, John McCain, will in the middle of the action. God help us.

House Republicans haven’t decided whether to attend and GOP leader John Boehner wants to “crash” the party.

GOP Rep. Mike Pence was on the floor this morning blasting the White House for convening something that looks “more and more like a taxpayer-funded media event designed to set up passage of Obamacare 2.0 and the American people deserve to know.” Right on:

Someone should gather a real Kabuki troupe and have them perform outside the summit venue.

***

Boehner’s office notes that the White House is telling the GOP only members of Congress may participate in the summit. No governors, no state legislators.

***

Good idea: Why not invite pro-life Dem. Rep. Bart Stupak?

Update: Kathryn Lopez has the GOP attendance list.

Will anything resembling a real “bi-partisan” legislative proposal emerge from this? No. The sides are too far apart, and neither seems willing to budge.

The issue will be which side is better able to paint the other into a corner: donks trying to cast the Republicans as “The Party of No” in both the idea sense as well as the procedural one, vs. Republicans who should be reminding everyone that (a) they do have ideas, and (b) all the donks are offering is a re-heat of the green eggs and ham that the American People have already sent back to the kitchen with prejudice.

    We’ll see…

Characterize the event anyway you want, but go with the facts and substance presenting the best case to deal with healtcare reform.

And it isn’t up to Rep Boenher to ask on behalf of the Governors, or complain about them getting their say. The premise is entirely false.

As for the Governors, they should get their chance, too. Wasn’t there a dinner for the Governors last week? Why didn’t something happen when they were all in Wash, DC? Why didn’t one step-up and say, ‘how about a meeting on healthcare? Yeah, the legislation will come out of Wash, DC but we’re on the front lines implementing it. We need to, and should talk about it.’

Indeed, RedDog – I certainly don’t recall any requests for one Hail Mary, last minute media show in a desperate attempt to revive the government takeover of healthcare.

In fact, Republicans are still wondering what happened to all of the Obama/Dem promises of “openness, bipartisanship, transparency, full CSPAN coverage”, etc. All the American people got instead were secret meetings that Republicans were locked out of – with no CSPAN coverage of these proceedings allowed by Obama & the Dems.

You’re kidding, right? The Reps took Pres Obama to task for not having all negotiations on CSPAN. Now that is being addressed. Yes, not all the healtcare reform talks have been public, but when they are, why complain when that is what you asked for?

When Il Duce has the outcome pre-determined, it’s a pretty good bet this is a Potemkin moment. This is not only kabuki, it is bad kabuki.

Mussolini is dead and has been for a while now.

    OK, you mean Pres Obama.

The outcome has not been predetermined. Should the Reps go to the meeting with the facts and proving their position in no uncertain terms, we the people will see it, and no outcome is pre-determined.

The question I want to hear asked and answered is, if the Insurance companies can refuse treatment, why won’t the Government plan be able to refuse treatment? If current plans allow for non-treatment now, what will compell them to do so in the future after the healthcare bill passes?

There should be no fear in going to the meeting, no cause to be concerned about Kabuki or Potemkin theatrics, traps, or pre-determined outcomes. Just have your facts straight, be substantive and ask the tough questions. Then demand answers or watch them twist in the wind when they are left unanswered. Much like what happens here on this blog.

To our moderator. In the interest of accuracy, the photo you have posted is not of a Kabuki performance, but of a Geisha dance routine.

    A very big difference.

Ah, but in the dead of night and behind the waving Erkel Hand the house voted to nix the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies that has been in existance since the 40′s.

Patients were routinely neglected or left “sobbing and humiliated” by staff at an NHS trust where at least 400 deaths have been linked to appalling care. An independent inquiry found that managers at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust stopped providing safe care because they were preoccupied with government targets and cutting costs. The inquiry report, published yesterday by Robert Francis, QC, included proposals for tough new regulations that could lead to managers at failing NHS trusts being struck off.

Staff shortages at Stafford Hospital meant that patients went unwashed for weeks, were left without food or drink and were even unable to get to the lavatory. Some lay in soiled sheets that relatives had to take home to wash, others developed infections or had falls, occasionally fatal. Many staff did their best but the attitude of some nurses “left a lot to be desired”.

The report, which follows reviews by the Care Quality Commission and the Department of Health, said that “unimaginable” suffering had been caused. Regulators said last year that between 400 and 1,200 more patients than expected may have died at the hospital from 2005 to 2008.

I keep up with socialized medicine in England, to see how our care will be, if the government runs our health care. The above is not unusual. It’s interesting to note that tourists get priority in their health care. Of course, if I went back to England, I’d make arrangements, first, to fly back in case of a health problem. I may have to hang up my ‘scope if Obama gets his way, and become a Walmart greeter. I think I would be more useful and less of a threat to people.

Yet either would probably make an appropriate metaphor, no? Both are for entertainment purposes rather than any real substantive objective.

Thought about watching part of the Geisha/Kabuki today, but realized it would be somewhat more enjoyable to have sharp sticks poked in my eyes. Fortunately some pressing projects have come up today to spare me the pain. Will read your comments and catch the sound bytes when the silliness subsides. If you have the stomach to watch, Godspeed!

This is just yet-another-photo-OP. Why should the Republicans attend when Obumble has already issued his healthcare edict and Reid is going to pass it via reconciliation.

No Republicans should attend citing above. The media has already been issued their talking points.

Let them do it – let them own it.

I just saw poll results that show only 25% of Americans want ObamaCare passed. This is enscouraging but when it is broken down majorities or large minorities favor most of the individual provisions. These all include requiring Americans to purchase insurance, requiring employers to provide insurance, requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions etc…. In other words, Americans have no problem with the individual bad ideas but don’t like them grouped together. We are making progress but still have a long way to go to get Americans to understand more govt. and forcing people/companies to do things is not a good solution.

What does the large intestine of a democrat have to do with his cognitive process…Wait, never mind. “Alimentary, my dear Watson!”

    I’d rather eat lutefisk.

As would I, but deciding between lutefisk and a sharp stick in the eye might be a close call. Watching The Dear Leader Show is a no brainer.
