Durbin’s anti-filibuster petition

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 26, 2010 02:05 PM

“Nobody’s talking about reconciliation,” Harry Reid said yesterday at Oba-kabuki.

“Nooooooobody.”

So, er, what’s this? Why, it’s Dick “Nobody” Durbin launching an online petition to kill the filibuster and lower the threshold for cloture to a simple majority. Thunders Durbin:

It’s time to end the filibuster

The American people are sick of process blocking progress. They’re fed up with an arbitrary tradition that allows a minority of Senators to prevent popular, much-needed legislation from even coming to a vote.

Frankly, so am I.

Please sign this petition to my colleagues in the Senate, supporting the Harkin-Shaheen proposal or other similar proposals to eliminate the crippling 60-vote requirement to overcome a filibuster.

Don’t worry. “Nobody” but the nutroots are putting their names on it.

As I noted in my column today, the latest USA Today/Gallup poll shows that a majority of Americans oppose short-circuiting the legislative process through reconciliation tactics.

Be careful what you wish for DICK. You’ll be the first one complaining about no filibuster when you are the minority party. But no fear, the stupid party would allow it to be put in and taken out by the dems to suit their needs.

They wouldn’t have to worry about a filibuster or a bipartisan bill if it was good legislation.

As it stands, all this legislation is comes down to the democrats want the government to spend a crapload of money.

I think there should be a law that before any problem is solved by spending taxpayer money, we should exhaust all solutions that don’t cost a penny to enact.

The filibuster is a right of the American people. So we have a sitting Senator asking Americans to surrender that right so that the Dems can cram down an unwanted take over of our health care system. It’s not bad enough that they take rights away illegally…now they want us to surrender.

Yeah, let’s elect more Democrats in November.

Durban told a whopper yesterday about a woman who went to have a mole removed and went under general anesthiesia and an oxygen tank blew up and the lady had horrible burns and if we have “malpractice reform”, this lady would have gotten nothing from the evil insurance company except a lousy $250,000.00. Durban’s story is obviously a hoax. First, Durban has refused to provide the name of the lady or the doctors. Durban knows that he would be exposed a fibber. Then we also know that you don’t have general anesthesia for a mere removal of a mole. You would simply have a local. I have various skin cancers removed and it is no different from a mole. You just get a local. Then, if the oxygen tank suddenly blew up, that would not be the fault of the doctors or hospitals. The lady would have a products liability case against the oxygen tank manufacturer. But being the former president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, we should expect grotesque exxageration from Mr. Durbin. Obama’s St. Louis cancer story turned out to be sheer unadulterated garbage. Pure fiction. If any reporter has some ingenuity, they would confront Durbin and make him give names, years, courthouses, defendants, etc. Durbin knows that this won’t happen so he lies like a rug.

The screaming self-serving hypocrisy of these sub-human libs is beyond description.

Actually reminds me of a 4-year-old:

    “…and while I was in the kitchen, I heard a noise…and then…and then…the ground shook…and then…and then…Milton Berle rode in on a unicorn…and then…and then…he said, ‘I’m Gonad the Ruffian’…and then…and then…he swung his sword…and then…and then…he knocked over the cookie jar…and that’s what happened.”

At least that’s the way I remember saying it then.

There’s an idea! Hey, let’s have a bi-partisan summit to discuss the issue – everybody bring your ideas to the table – and we’ll see if we can find a compromise position to build a concensus. Since the present Democritter majority is in favor of repealing the filabuster, then the Democritters should not have it available to them when they are the minority. Republicans who favor keeping it may retain the procedure when they are the minority.

    There. That was easy.

If they actually cared what Americans wanted they wouldn’t be trying to figure out a way to shove the bill down our throats in the first place.

Nobody likes the bill – the Democrats see it as a handout to corporate America. They’re too caught up in the “we have to beat the Republicans!” to remember that though.

The best part about Obama becoming President is that much of the country is finally waking up to what we here all knew: that the Democrats are a bunch of lefist sleazeballs that who will do anything to get there agenda passed…the American people be damned.

This reaction never would have happened (I think) if McAmnesty had been elected. And he would have still pushed for immigration “reform” and this healthcare BS.

In 1975, the Senate reduced the number of votes necessary for cloture from two-thirds (67) to three-fifths (60) of the 100-member Senate. Some senators wanted to change the rule to require only a simple majority (51), but Majority Leader Mike Mansfield (Democrat–Montana) objected. Mansfield believed it was important to retain some way for the minority to check the majority. By then, even moderate and liberal senators had resorted to filibusters to block legislation they found offensive

Dick “Nobody” Durbin is typical of the schizophrenic democrat ruling class, they always want things both ways, when the republicans threatened to use a simple majority to move the nominations of federal judges forward the name calling democrats called it the dreaded “nuclear option”. Now, now, its for a more “noble” purpose, socialism, so the filibuster must go.

Actually, the threat of a filibuster should go, and whoever wants to do it, should do it.

Both sides – put your money where your mouth is, ante up, put up or shut up, grow a pair, stand and deliver, dance with who brung ya’, cowboy up, etc.

    I am all cliched out.

The response will be delivered in November.

If the ram it with health care, will they then ram it with Cap and Trade, then ram it with Amnesty, then ram it with card check, then ram it forever ….

Ever wonder why countries like Venezuela are unstable? Because if they ram it, then we ram it, then they ram it, then we ram it. See the unstable part? Majoritarian democracies are inherently unstable.

I think Americans need to decide if they want to destroy our Senate and become Venezuela…

Maybe a better solution would be to repeal the 17th Amendment, and get rid of the ‘Schumer seats’ for life and give back the states rights … then shrink the federal government back to it’s Constitutional size.

People’s House and the States House, how it used to be before progressives started trying to take over our country …

The nice thing about the Obamacare Bill is that it is so obscenely long, it alone could be the filibuster reading material.

So unlike old filibusters where the public would get angry with the heel-draggers reading a phone book, the public would get angry with the democrats as they hear all the garbage in the bill.

And as an added benefit, lawmakers could hear it FOR THE FIRST TIME!
