“Anger in America,” MSNBC-style

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 2, 2010 05:17 PM

Someone named Dylan Ratigan is apparently auditioning to take Keith Olbermann/Larry Scary O’Donnell/Chris Matthews’ place on MSNBC. These angry white men sure can work themselves up into a lather about angry white men. Watch him foam and hyperventilate while Tea Party activist Mark Williams sits quietly on the right:

Dude, look in the mirror:

Both of these guys need a time out.

Ratigan threw fire bombs and the premise of his questions were offensive and were meant to solicit an emotional response. This serves no one.

What are Ratigan’s expectations? To hear only ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answers?

What are William’s expectations? To go on tangents?

A higher level of sophistication is required of both individuals. They should share their expectations with one another before appearing on the air. It makes flamboyant TeeVee and is more heat than light, and it does not advance the conversation.

    It’s damned obvious to me.

They are inciting to violence, on purpose.

Went to NewsBusters to read the comments. Nobody there sees it. Nobody here sees it. It’s all “Wow, they’re stupid and crazy!”, but not “Wow, they are intentionally doing this to incite racial violence!”

The latter is the case, and folks would see it if folks would open their eyes and not treat each of these “events” as a wholly separate rant, totally unrelated and disconnected from every other similar rant.

MSNBC WANTS A RACE WAR AND THESE RANTS ARE THEIR BATTLECRIES. Every day it becomes more evident, to those with their eyes open.

Yes. Less so than Ratigan, but it would have been entirely too easy to answer the question directly.

Say, ‘No, and I will explain why. Would you like to know why? Would your audience like to know why?”

Say, ‘Yes, and I will explain why. Would you like to know why? Would your audience like to know why?”

I have the expectation that people who appear on TeeVee have a level of professionalism. It is not always the case, but I am hopeful.

Yep, it is a combination and balance of style and substance for me.

[WARNING, Sports analogy: I enjoy seeing a good cross check, but you gotta put the puck in the net to win.]

Speaking and yelling over one another accomplishes very little. Avoiding the question accomplishes little.

Ever see MM on TeeVee? Ever see Coulter on TeeVee? Well, the former gets her point across with far less venom and far more substance. The latter might be good and entertaining but solicits far too much emotion.

That adage has yet to be proven in America, and, in fact, it’s probably not true at all. Obama’s base is still Obama’s base, and they will vote for whoever the television tells them to vote for. The Democrat pitchmen have been selling junk to the inner cities and to the television-addicted for the last 30 or 40 years, and people are still watching, and still voting, and still buying the junk that’s peddled.

If the progressives are “not stupid”, well, what can I say? America, 52% of her anyway, are not even THAT smart.

I didn’t say they were rocket-scientist-philosophers, only that they are not stupid. That the “they’re so dumb” argument which you see forming the foundation of every other conservative comment on forums net-wide, doesn’t hold a drop of water when viewed against the backdrop of D.C. and the reality of the US ghettos.

He lived in fear of the inevitable and will spend the rest of his life in prison. Ultimately not too bright.

The progressive socialist agenda is a ponzi scam. You can have a utopia with universal health care, not burn any fossil fuels and have entitlements for evrybody – and it won’t cost you anything! Sorry, but this is, er, stupid.

They know that they are lying – that they will be the ones with the money and healthcare and entitlements galore, and that the common people will work and work and work and die in service to them, the priveleged class. Like always.

Regarding the posts on MM and Ann Coulter, I find Ann Coulter too much like Obermann for my liking. She is always sneeringly contemptuous of whoever she is arguing with and shouting down. It makes the conservative cause look hysterical. In contrast, I recently watched an old tape of Ronald Reagan and Booby Kennedy from 1968. Then Governor Reagan was humorous, convincing and sunny as ever. That was the measure of Ronald Reagan: Not an ounce of meanness in his body.

You can’t win with MSNBC. First, Olbermann calls out tea partiers for not being diverse enough. Then Dylan Ratigan calls them out for being too diverse. Make up your mind, MSNBC. Is the Tea Party supposed to be more inclusive or more exclusive?

The problem with doing what MSNBC wants is that no one officially runs the tea party. So, who decides who goes and who stays? If someone at a Tea Party violates the law, local law enforcement should remove them. If they are not violating any law, it becomes a free speech issue. Is Mr. Ratigan calling for an end to free speech or just an end to speech he doesn’t like?

If the Tea Party included only those MSNBC likes and excluded everyone else, it would become identical to the left-most wing of the Democratic Party.

This should be a lesson to anyone in the Tea Party. DO NOT go on MSNBC!! I think it is still safe to go on CNN and of course, FOX News. But…MSNBC??? Don’t be sucked into that again. I think the Tea Party members have already figured that out! PMSNBC is not the proper forum for our cause. They are deranged, and their few listeners are lost causes anyway.

Is MSNBC run out of the basement of a looney-bin? Where do they find these people that “host” their “shows?”

Not only is it looney, it is an old shtick. This is pretty much the “have you stopped beating your wife yet” question that is nearly as old as Moses.

If these people were so bright don’t you think they could come up with something new from time to time?

I like substance, and niether Ratigan or Williams provided any in that exchange.

Williams made three points very clear. His first point was that there are nutjobs and normal people, CLEARLY answering labeling racists as nutjobs. When you label someone as a nutjob are you aligning with them or not? CLEARLY not.

When pressed Williams gave the analogy that someone in NBC had gone on an anti-semetic rant but was promoted. The point is nutjobs exist within organizations, that doesn’t mean the entire organization is like said nutjob.

When pressed further Williams said, OF COURSE we do not condone racism.

If you that is the wrong thing to do or somehow anything close to what Ratigan did, we all need to pray for this country because we’re screwed. Rational thought is gone.

    “thefoundingfathers,”

Thank you for reminding me of that great quote! It is fitting that Rattigan be adorned with such a pretinent statement.

I also recall the saying, “It is not wise for a wise man to argue with a fool. Bystanders often cannot tell the difference.”

Which is the bigger fool, the fool, or the fool who follows him?

Not sure what to think of this.

What are the rules? Do you not get to answer questions? Are you allowed the time to formulate your thoughts? Are you allowed to change the subject, redirect and avoid? Is this how you treat your guests?

Both of these guys need a time out.

Both guys? Williams had nothing but a “time out”, as he wasn’t able to say more than three words.

Ratigan threw fire bombs and the premise of his questions were offensive and were meant to solicit an emotional response. This serves no one.

What are Ratigan’s expectations? To hear only ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answers?

What are William’s expectations? To go on tangents?

I agree with your first premise, but Williams wasn’t anywhere near “off on a tangent”. Seriously. Does a complete sentence count as a tangent? Count the number of words he was allowed to speak.

A higher level of sophistication is required of both individuals. They should share their expectations with one another before appearing on the air. It makes flamboyant TeeVee and is more heat than light, and it does not advance the conversation.

Again, your criticism is misplaced when criticizing Williams based on this “interview”.
