I didn’t see any of the movies that were nominated, except for the Julia one, which was cute. Apparently heads are exploding over at Huffpo for the Hurt Locker best Picture win. Sandra Bullock won for her protrayal of that mom, and I like her so I am glad she finally was nominated and won an award.
Anyone watch the nascar race today and see Carl Edwards plant one on Brad K?
I was in Austin, TX today and stayed at a hotel right across the freeway from the IRS building that the lunatic flew a plane into a couple of weeks ago. It looks pretty grim. I am surprised there were so few casualties. It is a shame that people get that unhinged and have to take others out when they want to kill themselves.
One last comment. While I was driving from Mobile to Austin, I listened to the entire audio of Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue. Wow, she was such a joy to listen to for the entire day, and her story was very compelling. For anyone who thinks she is a political lightweight, they need to listen to her disc 7 at the very least. At the most, read her book. Underestimate this woman at your peril. She could be the shining light of our future. Such a shame that McCain mismanaged his campaign and HER place on the ticket because she has to overcome all of the bad press and stereotyping which should have been unnecessary. Another reason to have disdain for McCain. Squishy rino, ineffective candidate.
Didn’t watch the Oscars. Had absolutely no desire. I did see Inglorious Basterds, but that wasn’t up for best pix. Anyway, glad to hear The Hurt Locker won. Sweet revenge for the jilted ex-wife of James Cameron. Also, nice to see Cameron’s anti-American Pocohantas lose.
Sandra Bullock actually won a Razzie for Worst Actress this year as well (for another movie). She showed up to accept that award, too. Good for her.

From my politics blog: Turkey’s premier, Tayyip Erdogan, keeps on with his antisemitism and also racism towards Armenians. Believe me, we don’t need to be buddies with horrific people like that.
From my comics blog: for those of you familiar with the Teen Titans, this is very grave news. Dan DiDio has capped his role as EIC with an abominable story where Roy Harper/Arsenal’s infant daughter has been slaughtered in a repeat of the atrocity first committed during Zero Hour with Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Do not buy the 2 miniseries they’re going to publish soon as followups to this disaster, and do not buy any of James Robinson’s output as a writer again.
And, from my game blog: Sega’s Scud Race, alias Super GT, which used the most realistic looking 3D graphics for its time.
Hmmm…Green Arrow…I haven’t read that comic since I was 10…’brings back memories…

Well, Hurt Locker won Best Picture. Isn’t that just a bunch of crap. This bogus piece of horse dung is going to be one of the primary methods the leftists in Hollywood will be indoctrinating children on what the Iraq war was about. More crazy Iraq War vets. It will do the same job that Dear Hunter, Apocalypse Now, Platoon and a few other did to brainwash kids after Vietnam.
Michelle, are you going to post anything on the female Captain Bligh the Navy just relieved? This is quite a story. I have read hundreds of comments on many sites of her abuses. Sailors that served under her are now referring to themselves as “Hollycaust Survivors”.

Spending some time unplugged is helpful in truly enjoying life and determining what’s really important.
An old schoolmate of mine-Jamie Harrold -was in ‘New Tenants’-which won best short film.
Jamie’s an uber-liberal(aren’t they all) but he’s gracious. I left a congrats on his FB wall and he wrote a thanks on my ‘wall’.
He knows my politics. We agree to disagree.
I’d like to congratulate the people of Iraq for a mostly quiet and successful election. The election organizers and workers, Iraqi and non-Iraqi, should also be congratulated. The Iraqi and US security forces also did wonderfully good jobs to minimize the violence that did occur and was threatened. “Bravo Zulu” (well done–high praise in Navy-speak) to all.
This is the start of three weeks of business travel for me. Crisscrossing both Maryland and Florida. Thank God the weather is moderating and spring is on the way.
Good to see Michelle getting some well deserved downtime … she has been on the road a lot lately …
I did something I hadn’t done in more years than I can count … I actually watched the Oscars … primarily due to a bet with my son … and I won the bet
… I also picked the big 5 correctly in the office pool … (Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Picture) …
My kids and many others are obviously very “Blue” today since Avatar didn’t sweep all the awards … haven’t seen Avatar and don’t plan on seeing it any time soon …
Very pleased to see Sandra Bullock win Best Actress … “The Blind Side” is a fantastic movie … I have been a big fan of her movies since “The Net” …
Otherwise another quiet rainy weekend in the desert … My softball league got rained out for the 3rd straight weekend … so there will be a lot of double and triple header game days to get caught up and back on schedule …

I didn’t watch the Oscars. I was afraid Avatar and Precious would win because of PC, etc. So I was glad to hear Sandra Bullock won for Blindside. I didn’t think Hollyweird would ever reward a movie with wholesome family values and Christian values.
Saturday I rolled my Sportster, The Phantom, out, changed the oil, and took it for a short spin. Felt like shaking hands with an old friend.
I didn’t know we weren’t allowed to like Avatar. I’m not a huge sci-fi fan, but I thought it was one of the best movies sci-fi films I’ve ever seen.
Sandra Bullock also won a Razzie on the same day. She picked it up in person, and handed out DVD copies of the movie that earned her the award, “All About Steve.” I thought that was pretty awesome.
Was burning mostly downed pine tree debris all day long. You don’t really appreciate how much wood is in a ~80 foot white pine until half of one comes down mostly on your neighbor’s property and you have to work like a draft horse, (while this song came to mind), dragging all the limbs ~200 feet through underbrush over to the fire. Call me ‘cresote nostrils’, I still smell the fire in my nose a day later. I sure slept good last night; couldn’t move very fast this morning though.
My son and I saw Avatar twice. We liked it for the sci-fi and action, and found it easy to ignore the gaia theme (Sigourney Weaver, not so much).
Didn’t get to see Blindside, but anxious to check it out on dvd some day. Other than those two, I have not much use for today’s entertainment selections.
Oscars? Last night?
Oh well, didn’t see any of the movies either.
Most of my days are spent sanding and painting an old (beloved) house – getting it ready to put on the market. Fumes – brain cells .. what!
I can’t believe either of those were considered the best picture. Avatar was like Fern Gully meets the Matrix and Hurt Locker was just plain boring, not to mention unrealistic and I’m not even ex-military.
I didn’t see the Oscars, or saw any of the films. When I was a youngster, I used to see all the possible oscar films, and watch the entire Oscar show. But, that was before it became political and a forum for everyone’s pc beliefs. Actually, it seems films, these days, are nothing more than a rehash of plots exhausted a long time ago. So, my wife and I haven’t braved the rude crowds and prices to sit in a theatre, in years.
Saw it all. It was certainly a surprise for Edwards to do that. I thought he was beyond such immature behavior, especially when you’re 156 laps back. But, he will pay for it. Look for a loss of points and a fine. Point penalty is the hardest, especially when you’re “in the hunt” for the Chase. Generally, paybacks end up hurting only the driver doing it, his owner who has to replace the car, and the rest of the team/crew who lost money in their paychecks.
Avatar and Up were the only 2 nominees I saw this year. I loved the artistry of Avatar, but not the theme, which was frankly anti-capitalist, anti-military. But you had to love the way they did that movie. Up was just a cool cartoon, and “the cone of shame” has entered the lexicon. I didn’t care to see a movie I deduced was anti-Iraq war, and I’ve seen a lot of vets complain about the portrayals. The director sounded as though she meant the film to be a tribute to them, but I’ll leave that to those who’ve seen the movie, which I haven’t. I also won’t be going out of my way to see a movie about an abused, obese black girl and her psychotic mother, and race has nothing to do with that judgment. Abuse and political correctness does. On the other hand, I loved Sandra Bullock and The Blind Side. This woman has got true grit. Did you see her toast to “queen Meryl, long may she reign” with Barbara Walters at the end of that horrific program (I just caught the toast as a tag at the end, I can’t stand Barbara Wa-Wa.)?

I didn’t watch the show, either, but I saw a clip of what is definitely my favorite moment; Kathryn Bigelow dedicating her Best Director Oscar for Hurt Locker to the military while Barbara Streisand had to stand on stage with her and listen! SWEET!
Still haven’t seen the aforementioned film but plan to; LOVE Near Dark!

You still have white pine on your property?? Wow. From what I hear, white pine is rare. They used most of it up in the early 1900′s for railroad ties. Maybe they are coming back. That would be sweet.
Didn’t watch the oscars. I spent the evening pulling out my fingernails instead and had a much better time.
We are suppposed to get clouds and rain most of the week, but it is warming up! Hitting 50′s! Now, if we can just get the sun to shine, it may even get up to 60. I know, I’m dreaming. But I live in Minnesota where we dream of summer for 8 months of the year.
No, just the opposite, white pine is about the most abundant species in these parts.
Maybe you were thinking of yellow pine,(southern)? I think it was more exploited for railroad ties than white pine. White was used more ship building, (masts, yardarms, booms), furniture and dimensional lumber.

My wife informs me that our storage unit was burgled, but the perps didn’t get much (if anything) because of my l337 packing skills. (I just threw the stuff in randomly and they couldn’t get it out through the small opening.)
Also in the news… A cop in our Sunday School class had his concealed carry weapon discharge in class. I don’t know the cause. No one was hurt, but the classroom smelled of gunpowder (and he got a hole in his pants).
I guess I was thinking of the Wisconsin White Pine, which is rare now, I believe. I had studied the lumbering industry from the 1890′s and later for the novel I have been working on. From what I understand, they used it all up for the railroad. Maybe that is only in the upper midwest.
I-70 is closed in both directions in the Glenwood Springs (Colo.) Canyon — massive rock slide.
I went through that Canyon on I-70 twice on Friday and twice yesterday. This is the time of year for hazards – Yikes. I am so grateful that it did not happen while we drove through, especially since we had the grand kids in the car going west on Friday, and coming back east on Sunday.
In the past, I have had to take the 4-5 hour detour just to get home, and have been stuck in the canyon for 5 hours one time (but it was summer and the canyon is absolutely beautiful – the Colorado River running through it).
I’m so glad you are O.K!! My husband and I were at the Grand Canyon two years ago on a road trip and it was breathtaking!! I actually cried when I saw it. I have four pages of the most amazing pictures in my scrapbook! When you see all that beauty, you don’t stop to think that there is also a lot of danger out there. Stay safe.

HI KARENHASFREEDOM–#3. I read Sarah Palin’s GOING ROGUE book and came to the same conclusions you did. A person with strong Christian and ethical values–and she “walks the walk”. Most politicians just talk a good fight. She did an excellent job for the People of Alaska when she was Governor there.

HI BABIESGRANDMA–#27. I have driven the Denver to Utah I-70 route many times in the last 40 years. Spectacular scenery–it was much better before they “fixed” the highway by putting in all the new bridges. The old road had super rest areas next to the river and forest–they looked like heaven to a “desert rat” like me.

When they were re-creating the canyon highway, they took away the slower pace – driving along the river’s edge, etc, but the Glenwood Canyon is still truly amazing. However, with the elevated bridges, it certainly does take away from slower beauty of the country… although it is still spectacular. They have nice parking / reststops now along the river, but you have to walk some distance to begin a hike up to “Hanging Lake”. Fun to raft through on the river, too!
