Panic at the Team O: Asia jaunt delayed for Demcare

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 12, 2010 09:37 AM

The No-mentum is getting to the White House. News is breaking out all over that President Obama will be delaying his trip to Asia from Thursday to March 21. It’s also being reported that the First Lady and his daughters, who had planned to accompany him, will no longer be traveling with him. Jake Tapper writes:

“The President will delay leaving for Indonesia and Australia – will now leave Sunday – the First Lady and the girls will not be on the trip,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs sent out on twitter this morning.

Gibbs had expressed irritation yesterday with a question during the daily press briefing about this trip being something of a vacation for the family, with Sasha and Malia on spring break.

“It’s not a vacation at all,” he said back to a reporter.

Touchy, touchy.

The latest on the Demcare devolution…

NYT headline: Democrats Struggle to Finish Health Bill

Ed Morrissey reminds us what happened last time Obama went to Asia:

He doesn’t have the votes. As with Nancy Pelosi’s bravado, the deadline turned out to be a façade. If they had the votes, the bill would be on the floor now. Not only do they not have the votes now, it seems likely they won’t have the votes next week, either — which is why Obama’s pushing back his long-awaited trip to Indonesia.

This could also be a lesson learned by the White House. Last year, while Congress writhed in agony over ObamaCare, the President took time out to tour Asia — and came back with nothing for the effort but a bow to Japanese Emperor Akihito. Obama took a tremendous amount of criticism for absenting himself for a sightseeing tour while leaving Democrats in Congress to do his dirty work. If they don’t have the votes by March 21st, Obama may have to reconsider the trip altogether.

***

The open-borders caucus looks like it’s really going to bolt, via The Hill:

The healthcare bill’s immigration provisions are enough to spur Hispanic members of Congress to vote against it, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said Thursday.

Gutierrez, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) in which he serves as chairman of its Immigration Task Force, said the caucus still has concerns over the extent to which the healthcare bill excludes illegal immigrants as well as legal residents from receiving benefits in the healthcare plan.

“They are enough to say I can’t support this bill,” Gutierrez said during an appearance on MSNBC.

Gutierrez and other members of the CHC to express concerns about the immigration provisions in the bill, about which they’ve begun to speak out more forcefully as a vote on healthcare approaches.

The Illinois congressman, who was an early supporter of President Barack Obama’s run for the Oval Office, said that the immigration provisions were very unlike the president, and suggested someone in the White House had urged him to back more stringent provisions on immigration.

While the information in the aforementioned article is quite correct, what Messrs. Caddell and Schoen, along with most other “yellowdog Democrats” (they’d vote for a “yeller dawg” before they’d vote for a Republican), is that the party they are so stubbronly clinging to doesn’t exist anymore. Perhaps they should read (or reread) Zell Miller’s book, “A National Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat”, to remind themselves what happened to their party when they allowed the Marxist/Socialist/Proggressives to take control of their party starting in the late 60s/early 70s.

I’m for the Hispanic Caucus voting against healthcare but their rationale is illogical. What part of the word illegal don’t they understand. That word in and of itself would preclude coverage under any social program the U.S.A. has.

When our leaders had some backbone in the 1950s, there was a solution to the illegal immigrants – Operation Wetback -instituted under Eisenhauer.

We should unapologetically craft all of our laws so that any benefit provided by the government does not provide an incentive, no matter how small, for any person to come to the United States. We should exclude not only illegal aliens, but also recent immigrants from any and all programs that provide benefits at the expense of the people.

We should welcome those who want to come to this country, abide by our laws, and make a better life for themselves by their own effort and ingenuity. We should discourage anybody who wants to come to this country to climb aboard the gravy train.

There is no need to apologize for this. We have no obligation to provide any benefit to people who are not our own citizens. We cannot afford to support the entire World in a style to which they would like to become accustomed.

Stories say that when they saw the “Elephants” coming the Russian infantry would leap from their defensive positions and rush to the attack with shouts of joy (“Za Rodinu! Ourrah!”) that could be heard over the din of battle, because they knew they could climb all over and destroy them.

In a similar vein — if donkey-care can be delayed until the Easter recess — I expect the roar of the American People to drown out whatever lies the donks are peddling, and that ordinary folks will climb all over and destroy donkey-care at each and every townhall meeting that any donk would dare to attend.

I’ve also wondered that, especially since Congress’ approval ratings are so low, and you’d think they’d go hand in hand. Because a citizen is represented by 1/435th in the House of Representatives and 1/50th in Congress, they can easily register disgust towards the entire body of Congress as a whole, while they in many instances approve of the job their Congresscritters are doing. However, in the case of POTUS, these same citizens are probably reluctant to criticize someone who they likely voted for. I think there are still a lot of voters out there who don’t want to admit that they got suckered during the 2008 election.

    Barack Hussein Obama is the
First President of the United States
to bow before a foreign head of state.

(Obama also holds the distinction of being the first President of the United States to bow to a mayor.)

Obama bowed before the King of Saudi Arabia, “The Protector of Mecca and Medina.” His bow to the King was a profound bow from the waist.

The explanation for this is that either Obama is clueless as to proper protocol or that his reverence for Mecca and Medina overcame his sense of the dignity of the Presidency. Of course he could have just tripped.
