Not without a fight, Bobby Gibbs

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 14, 2010 10:46 AM

He wants you to sit down and shut up now.

They are getting cocky, aren’t they? Not without a fight, Bobby Gibbs:

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the healthcare bill will pass by next weekend.

“We’ll have the votes when the House votes, I think, within the next week,” Gibbs said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Gibbs added that those on next week’s Sunday talk shows “will be talking about healthcare not as a presidential proposal but I think as the law of the land.”

President Barack Obama will look to campaign on the new healthcare law in midterm elections, Gibbs said.

“We believe healthcare reform is going to pass, and once it passes we’re happy to have the 2010 elections be about the achievement of healthcare reform,” Gibbs said.

Get on message, Beltway GOP: Stop the Constitution butchers. Stop Pelosi’s Slaughter House.

Funny you should bring the Byrd thing up, because I was just reading something (found in a footnote from my last quote) that explains the reconciliation process, and I just got to part about the “Byrd rule” (page CRS-9).

I have to depart for the time being, but my research shall continue, as should everyone’s. I’ll admit that I didn’t and still don’t understand these legislative processes very well. My eyes kind of glazed over when I was hearing about reconciliation and whatnot. Wish I’d done it sooner so I knew what the heck all this deeming and reconciling stuff really meant. Like it says in the link in the previous paragraph:

The budget reconciliation process reflects a complex set of rules, procedures, and practices employed by the House and Senate.

I’ll try to come back sometime tonight if I find anything else interesting that addresses our concerns, unless some other intrepid comment-writer here addresses them first.

The big worry about the reconciliation process is that the Dems will throw out all rules and procedures. They can do this because Joe Biden can overrule and decisions by the parliamentarian on challenges by the Republicans.

Imagine a scene of Biden sitting there issuing one “overruled” ruling after another to ramrod the bill through. Of course, the Republicans would be too polite to storm out or even raise their voices. After all, just because the Constitution is being retired doesn’t mean we have to forget our good manners.

Jangar, did you see Chris Wallace defending the Dems behavior at the SOTU over the SCOTUS? He also criticized John Roberts as being out of line for his remarks last week calling for a proper time and place for criticizing the Court.

I expect that this was the last SOTU the Supreme Court will attend for a while.

I agree. Right now the tally in the House is 211 Yes / 220 No, and I can not see what could transpire this week to change that. As we are discussing, using the Slaughter solution with reconciliation will bring a constitutional challenge that would reverse the legislation.

As dogmatic socialistic shills as they may be, at the end of the day they want to keep their chushy taxpayer funded jobs, and the gold nametags on their doors. That’s priority one. That you can count on.

Happy, I have the greatest respect for you and enjoy your opinions, but if you are inferring that Cantor deserves to be elected again, I must disagree. I watched his performance with Van Hollen on Fox and it was dismal. It made my skin crawl to watch Van Hollen speak and he would reach out his hand and touch Cantor’s arm. All Cantor did was grin and giggle. He needed to tell Van Hollen to put his hands in his pockets if he felt the need to feel something. If you think Cantor is man enough to carry the colors, I believe you are not judging the man correctly.

Hannibal…Thank you for your kind words! You certainly have every right to disagree with me. In fact, I didn’t see that particular segment with Van Hollan. Perhaps it would cause me to change my mind about Cantor. What I have seen of him so far, I have liked. But RINO’s can be pretty conservative at times, and I may have only seen that side of him. I will look at him more carefully.

True, but perhaps the one thing that may hold them in check is the old MAD concept. The cold war idea of deterring the enemy from using nukes by “mutually assured destruction.”

Whatever they pull to make BaryCare happen will set a precedent that can and will be used when they are in the minority. Has to be on their minds as they plot their treachery.

Last word I heard this afternoon is Yes 211 / No 220 and I don’t see what could change that in the coming week. I’m banking that the Democritters like their jobs more than they are askeered of Big Bad Barry and his thugs. A couple of the Stupak pro life coalition are caving, but the bottom line is Nanny does not have the votes. Keep the pressure turned up high.

Maybe Nanny will confront the blue dogs naked in the shower. That would flip their noodles! Oooo dang. There’s a picture I didn’t need right before bed.
