What are Pelosi and the House Democrat women up to now?; Update: Dems aim for Saturday vote, but where’s the damned bill?

The gender card is the first and last refuge of House Scoundrel Nancy Pelosi.

She’s played it since Day One of her reign of error. She wielded it last week when she surrounded herself with kiddie human shields. And it appears she may be plotting it to use it in the Demcare end game.

Via Roll Call tonight:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is asking all female Democratic Members to attend a hastily called meeting Wednesday morning but isn’t saying what the meeting is about.

Pelosi’s office sent an e-mail out Tuesday evening requesting that all female Democrats come to the Members-only meeting at 10 a.m.

An aide to one Democratic Member said Pelosi’s office said the topic of the meeting was “to be determined.”

Female House Democrats have spent the last few days playing up alleged “gender discrimination” by insurers. They’ve come prepared with dubious or irrelevant sob story anecdotes. And as I noted back in November, Democrat women have organized on the House floor before — in that case, they exploited the House resolution process to play the gender card on Demcare and eat into general debate time through unanimous consent requests.

Memo to GOP leaders and Republican women in the House: Be prepared.

Joseph Bottum at First Things adds:

At a guess, it may be the meeting where she admits that she doesn’t have the votes for the bill without an abortion ban to lure in Bart Stupak’s coalition.

At least I hope that’s what the meeting is about. There’s something weird and off-putting about inviting only women, however—since I doubt Pelosi plans to reenact the scene where Lysistrata explains her political strategy to Cleonice.

Update 3/17 11:06am Eastern – Buzz on the Hill is that Pelosi has CBO numbers in hand and wants a vote Saturday. There’s conflicting buzz on whether the phantom House bill will be released today. Rumors on both left and right that CBO will release score at around 5pm Eastern tonight.

Jon Ward at The Daily Caller reports:

Democrats are set to release a final Congressional Budget Office report on their health-care bill early this afternoon, which would put them on pace to pass a bill by Saturday, before President Obama leaves the country for a week.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn, South Carolina Democrat, told The Daily Caller he will have 216 votes by Saturday to pass a bill.

“I think so,” he said in a brief interview, when asked about the Saturday deadline. “I’m closer than I was yesterday. And I’ll be closer tomorrow than I am today.”

The release of the bill’s CBO “score” today will allow the House Rules Committee to hold a hearing on the text, likely later Wednesday, and also allow Democrats to hold a vote by Saturday, in accordance with the rule that requires a bill to be released 72 hours before a vote.

As I surmised last night, the Pelosi meeting appears to have been a simple, estrogen-fueled pep rally to reinforce the gender-based talking points on Demcare:

Female House Democrats who met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her office on Wednesday morning said the meeting was not about abortion, and that there was no discussion of changing the Senate-passed health-care bill to make it more amenable to pro-life House Democrats.

The meeting, rather, was the latest in a series of events House Democrats have been doing to prepare their caucus for a robust promotion of the bill if and when it passes. Pelosi, a California Democrat, has already done events this week promoting the benefits of the bill for seniors and for children.

Latest House whip count is here.

Premiums will rise under Demcare, contrary to what the White House claims, reports the Associated Press.
How’s that female-friendly?

Update: It’s past noon. Still no damned bill.

These liberal “women” make this conservative woman sick. They’re no better than liberal men except they got a vagina and ovaries. I think there is a propensity in liberal women (and I’ve seen it) to let their hormones mask reason. Do people want to hold Pelosi and her female co-conspirators up as the model for American women?

American women better get their act together if Pelosi and her debutantes are the new standard. Shrill, gender politics that plays on stereotypes, mistruths, and hystrionics. It makes me sick. Do liberal women think this is smart politics? Seriously… does anybody really think these empty, hollow shrews are good for our country or our Republic?

It’s a damn shame that these harpies even have the privilege of serving this country. What they’ve done is perverted their representation into something of a stageshow full of the same sacred cows, excuses, and failed policies that make liars of the Dem party.

We need more stateswomen like Margaret Thatcher than Nancy Pelosi. She didn’t falsly emote and blinkety blink lie like Shrill Nancy. Margaret Thatcher actually lead by example with a prowess and determination that puts Pelosi to shame. Thatcher is the gold standard.

I have no sympthy or tears for these liberal chicks. They’re charlatans like their liberal male counterparts. My tear ducts are saved for the countless dupes they’ve made of voters over the years who’ve slurped this crap up. Even then, I’m running out of tears for the Dem constituency who’d rather sell their citizenship so short with freebies than principles.

My tears are reserved for our Republic and the few brave souls trying to preserve it.

Good Lord, Are they seriously going to do this? They are going to claim ‘discrimination’ from health insurance companies?

They have no idea how insurance works.

Insurance is determined based on the amount of risk you have. The greater the risk of a claim, the higher the premium costs. Women go to the doctor more often than men. They use more services than men. They can have babies.

I am certain that they won’t point out that as women get older, they pay less than men for insurance. Why that is is unclear to me, but numbers are pretty clear to me. Older women pay less than older men. . . is that discrimination?

I find it hilarious when people ‘discover’ something for the first time that I’ve been dealing with for decades.

I always tell people that older women pay less than older men because older men don’t take care of themselves as well.

But essentially all the rates are determined based on numbers and risk.

Auto insurance rates are based on the risk (what car, age of driver, driver’s record, and yes, even sex). LIFE insurance also is different for Men and Women. If they are going to go after the health insurance companies for giving different risks different rates, they need to go after ALL insurances. . . but then it wouldn’t be insurance and rates for everyone but the biggest risk will go up.

It takes the Slaughter solution beyond the point of even a shred of credibility. And it was incredible to begin with.

I think they’d have to have a vote on a version of the Senate bill with amendments, which would have to go back to the Senate, if I understand correctly.

Although I still have a sneaky feeling Olympia Snowe would vote for cloture, before voting against the actual bill in the Senate, along with 9 of the 13 Dems up for election this year, and claim she opposed Marxist Medicine.

Biden would be standing by to cast the deciding vote. Or else 5 solons in the Senate would have to explain voting for hell care again to their constituents this fall.

I grew up in Baltimore at the same time as Nancy D’Alessandro Pelosi, when her father was the Mayor. While I have no personal knowledge of this, a good friend and high school schoolmate told me in the 1960s of her involvement in her father’s graft. His family company was one of seven construction companies approved to do business with the City of Baltimore. He told me that his father was angry that each year the seven companies would meet with a D’Alessandro aide to decide the split of city contracts between the seven, and the amount of graft: the number of $100 bills in plain envelopes that would be required to get those contracts. He told me that it was common knowledge that the teenage Nancy was the one who would receive the envelopes and tick off the amounts in a ledger book. Maryland has produced notably corrupt officials (remember Spiro Agnew, known in Baltimore County as Ted?), but Tommy D’Alessandro was one of the worst and his graft operation on Albemarle Street adminstered by Nancy was egregious even for Maryland. The tradition continues: the current Mayor was just indicted for theft and graft. How can we abide having so corrupt a person as Nancy Pelois the #3 in line for the Presidency?

Pelosi must really like the Senate government abortion funding and lack of a concience clause for medical workers.

Because if she allowed a new Stupak amendment, the amended Senate bill would pass.

With an amended version, the Senate would have to vote again, if they actually wanted to follow Article I Section 7, and abortion language would seem to rule out reconciliation, which is supposedly only used on spending bills where the House and Senate had already approved a budget, but does anyone really think all 41 Republicans would hold? Snowe would be my bet, but I could see Voino or Collins.

Then the defector, if running for election again (ie, not Voino) can vote against the final bill, 9 of 13 Demonrats defending seats this year can join them, and Biden can cast the 51st vote.

But I think the witch Pelosi is really married to the idea of forcing tax payers and people paying insurance premiums to have their noses rubbed in the idea of helping murder babies.

Call them now, and use their local numbers. Tell everyone you know to call them now! This is a fight for the soul and future of the United States of America; for the country we all love, and have inherited and preserved out of the blood and treasure of our forefathers.

Will the American citizens stand and fight as our great Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen, and United States Marines, past and present, always stand and fight for our sacred liberty? This is a seminole moment in American history. We will live as one nation under God, or under government? Now is the time of decision! You must act now! Now is the time to let your voices be heard as never before. Where is the march on Washington? Where is the American spirit that never quits? Where is the American spirit that says “no” and “never again” to our enemies, and backs it up at all costs? Our soldiers are willing to die for this country’s preservation. Shall we not stand up on their behalf while they face bullets and bombs so we do not have to?

If you called already, call them again! If you have e-mailed them, do it again. If you have told your relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, tell them to call and email, and fax them again! Stop what you’re doing and do it now! Our great republic is at stake!

Think of your children; and do it for them. Look into their faces; and then pick-up the phone and get on your computer, and let them know, we are still Americans, and we will not accept tyranny from anyone – foreign or domestic. We will never surrender to state control of our lives. Tell them that when you call and e-mail them. Tell them we are not socialists, and we will not live under it now or ever. Tell them like Churchill “We will fight them in the air; on the land; and on the seas. We will never surrender.” Call them now! E-mail them now! Fax them now! Let them feel the people’s power. Do it now!

I think they won’t release the bill until they think they have the votes to pass it. Then, if/when they do post the bill, you can bet that they will try to vote on it 72 hours later, and lie through their teeth saying,

“we don’t need to debate any more about this bill, we’ve been talking about this bill for 9 months. The time for talk is over.”

…even though this bill will have things like the studen loan nationalization that have NOT been part of the debate for the last 9 months.

The American people instinctively sense that there is something terrible happening, something that is antithetical to the indomitable spirit of benevolence, self-reliance, independence, and freedom that has characterized our nation from its beginning. Our government has been hijacked by collectivist radicals whose every act is designed to expand their power and chip away at our freedom.

    http://www.littlegreenfootballs2.com/2009/08/22/a-letter-to-nancy-pelosi-from-dennis-l-guthrie/

    Dear Ms. Pelosi:

I write to you out of utter disdain! You are as despicable and un-American as the traitor Jane Fonda.

I am a soon to be 65 year-old who has voted in every state and local election since 1966. I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats alike. I have worked on campaigns for both Republicans and Democrats, white and black. I served the country that I love in Vietnam, as my son did in the Middle East. I was awarded two bronze stars. I have been involved in politics since age 6 when my father was campaign manager for a truly great American Congressman, Charles Raper Jonas, who worked for his constituents and his country, and was to be admired, unlike you.

You obviously haven’t read the Constitution recently, if ever, the Federalist Papers, or even David McCullough’s book on John Adams. You ought to take the time while riding around in your government provided luxury executive jet to do just that. You represent Socialistic and even Marxist principals that our founding fathers tried to avoid when setting out the capitalistic republican form of government represented by our Constitution.

I find it interesting that you and your husband are multi-millionaires with much of your fortune being made as a result of your “public service”. You have controlled legislation that has enhanced your husband’s investments both on and off shore. At the same time you redistributed the wealth of others. Our system of a free market economy is being destroyed by the likes of you, Harry Reid, and now our President. You ride around in a Gulfstream airplane at the tax payer’s expense while criticizing the presidents of companies who produced something for the economy. You add nothing to the economy of the United States; you only subtract therefrom.

I would like to suggest that you return to the city of fruitcakes and nuts and eat your husband’s canned tuna and pineapple produced by illegal immigrants and by workers who have been excluded from the protection that 90% of the legal workers in the United States have.

I await your defeat in the next election with glee.

Don’t ever use the term “un-American” again for protesters who love this country and are exercising their rights upon which this country was founded. By the way, while I served in the Army, I was spit on by the same type of lunatics who support you and who you probably supported in the 60’s and 70’s. You are an embarrassment to all of us who served so that you would have the protected right of free speech to call us un-American. But at the same time, I have the right to write you to notify you that I consider you to be un-American, as do the majority of the people of this formerly great country. You are a true disgrace to most of the people who served this country by offering themselves for public service in the United States Congress.

I feel certain your aides will not share this letter with you, but I intend to share it with many.

    Sincerely,

    Dennis L. Guthrie

The House Republican whip team just held a conference call in which they said that the Democrats have 206 yes votes for the health care bill. They need 216 to pass it. There are currently 51 Democrats who are said to be undecided and the leadership can afford to lose 37 Democrats in all, which sounds like a pretty tough road for opponents of the bill (without the Stupak language on abortion, all Republicans are expected to vote no).

Chief Deputy Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) nevertheless said he felt this week had hurt Democratic vote-getting efforts somewhat. He argued that the Slaughter rule did not sit well with some wobbling Democrats and “will make the American people very angry” if the leadership actually tries to go through with it (McCarthy seemed to suggest they won’t). McCarthy said that usually when you talk about process, you lose but “this year, I think process does matter.” He said that the Scott Brown victory suggested that voters wanted the Democratic leadership to be more responsive than they have been during the health care debate.

Rep. Parker Griffith (R-Ala.), a recent party-switcher from the Democratic Party, talked about some of the things the Democrats will do to whip their members. Griffith said they will “know your demographics,” “know how much cash you have on hand,” “know how popular Obama is and Pelosi is in your district,” and know if you want a “road project,” “medical school,” or “have a severe Medicaid shortage that needs to be shored up.” Griffith said that as a physician and former Democrat, “I saw firsthand that the Republicans had many good ideas that were ignored.”

From Phil Klein at amspec. I don’t know if the “yeses” include leaners or are all committed ones. I find the possibility that they will have to drop Demonpass interesting.

Barron Hill is now a “yes.” Guess he doesn’t want to be a senator.

Promote all you want, Nancy. I know a sh*t sandwich when I see one and no amount of mustard is going to cover the stench of Obamacare.

And to those Democrats who insist the American public doesn’t care about the process, lay off the crack pipe. The way you are ramrodding this through with complete disregard for the rule of law will result in mayhem sooner rather than later. Any blood that results will be on your hands.

If what Obama claimed last week as ‘being in the final bill’ The it would not surprise me to find out that this bill REDUCES the deficit!

Of course, there is a catch. In this case that catch is that the house and senate will need to pass a 2nd MAJOR tax increase! This being the 2.9% tax on all ‘unearned’ income as defined by the IRS.

My guess is the CBO would score this as another 300+ billion tax increase over the next 10 years. But then, I do not think the CBO understands that higher tax rates do not necessarily mean more revenues. And of course the unintended consequence of tearing away incentive for investors, leaving ideas on the table and not in the marketplace, only shows up later.
