CBO: Covering the Backsides of Obamacare-pushers?; Update: House Ds conjure up $940 billion price tag; GOP united in opposition; Dems “giddy;” Pelosi: “I love numbers. They’re so precise.”
Scroll for updates…9:54am Eastern…Boehner vows to do “everything we can to make sure this bill never, ever passes.”…Democrat whip James Clyburn announces the majority is “giddy” over the $940 billion price tag…

The CBO scoring of the House Demcare bill that the American people have not seen will be released this morning.
The poor number-crunchers have been working overtime as Speaker Pelosi and the Dems have re-jiggered and re-jiggered to meet farcical fiscal discipline goals. It’s Enron-style accounting and everyone knows it.
James Capretta at The Corner breaks it down:
The Washington Post reports today that CBO now says the latest version of the Democratic plan will no longer cut the deficit as the Democrats have claimed. That’s not surprising. To buy votes, they are upping the subsidies in the exchanges, expanding the Medicare prescription-drug benefit, delaying the Cadillac tax, and buying off countless members with other assorted and unseen deals (where are the C-SPAN cameras when you really need them?). Little wonder that even their phony deficit-reduction claims have now evaporated.
But the game is not over. Even now, they are going back to CBO with another bag full of tricks. They will never actually impose any sort of real budget discipline, of course. That would cost them votes. But no gimmick is too shameless for them; they will do anything if allows them to claim that enactment of another runaway entitlement program will actually improve our long-term budget outlook.
Fortunately, the public is not buying it. The American people see through the smokescreen. They know full well that Congress wants to put in place another unfinanced and expensive entitlement program, even as the federal government is piling up debt at a record pace. Which is why they are telling their elected representatives in every way they can to stop the madness already — and start over.
Question for the ruling majority: What is the role of the CBO?
Note this disturbing passage from The Hill:
Rep. Robert Andrews (D-N.J.), leaving that same meeting, said that the delay is the result of numerous technical issues involved, and stressed that, despite any rumors to the contrary, the delays are not the result of policy problems.
“My understanding is this has been much more technical than substantive,” Andrews said. “It’s not like what tax has to go or what spending has to go.”
Andrews did say, though, that the CBO is also taking extra time to protect the legislation from invariable legal challenges to the reconciliation process, if not the eventual law itself.
“Protect the legislation” from legal challenges?
Is that in CBO’s mandate? Let’s check:
CBO’s mandate is to provide the Congress with:
* Objective, nonpartisan, and timely analyses to aid in economic and budgetary decisions on the wide array of programs covered by the federal budget and
* The information and estimates required for the Congressional budget process.
Nope, covering the Dems’ backsides ain’t in there.
***
Update: The number is out across the wires: $940 billion. Nothing on the CBO blog yet as of 9:30am, though. And we still haven’t seen the actual bill…
House Democrats say their plan that no one has seen yet “would cut the deficit by $130 billion over the next decade, and $1.2 trillion in the second decade of the plan’s implementation.”
Update: CBO report now posted. Director stresses that it is all “preliminary.” Read: Illusory.
Update: IBD’s Ed Carson outlines “Five Reasons The CBO Figures Are Phony.” Spread the word.
Update: At a press conference to trumpet the preliminary numbers that Dems are treating like definitive Scripture, Pelosi proclaims: “I love numbers. They’re so precise.”
So. Precisely. Bogus.

No one voting for this unconstitutional monstrosity will care one cent about the cost of it…
If this bill is so good, Ms. Pelosi, why is there so much arm-twisting, bribery and verbal assaults, to get it passed?
If this bill is so good Mr. President, why do you have to lie about every aspect of it? Liar in chief.
You are talking about the fully annointed non-partisan CBO.
As was said in the faux summit by the dems, “If you can’t trust the CBO, who can you trust?”
So the CBO recommended scrapping it? Because the only way to protect it from challenges is to not pass it in the first place.
We are f*cked. And the dems will smile and laugh at use as they grease up to pull another train on this nation.
WOW, only another 990 billion on the fire which is already 10 trillion in debt and burning.
Your economic freedom is being burned down.
So how does this Bill meet the Constitutional test that all revenue Bills must ORIGINATE in the House. I don’t think voting and passing a Senate Bill meets that hurdle.
As Obama said, the Constitution is an obstacle to tyranny.
Pelosi: “Mr. President, there appears to be a backlash against your health care proposal.”
Obama: “No need to get all wee-weed up, Nancy, that was only an earthquake in Hawaii.”
Favorite lines from the movie, The Rainmaker:
I can apply that to so many things.
When our government runs amok, what recourse do we have? Because clearly, this is WAY out of control. Now we have Democrats arm twisting an office that has no role in politics or policy so that office can conjure up some report that suits Dems needs.
I’ve friggin’ had it. I hope other citizen who care about this have had enough as well.
Obama and his minions are going too far.
From the American Heritage Dictionary via Yahoo Reference:
overreach -
1. To reach or extend over or beyond
2. To miss by reaching too far or attempting too much: overreach a goal.
3. To defeat (oneself) by going too far or by doing or trying to gain too much.
4. To get the better of, especially by deceitful cleverness; outwit.
Definitions 2 and 3 seem especially suitable to the Donks.
I wonder if there is any gimmick in the Bill for people like me?
I am uninsured. I am a insulin dependent diabetic. I pay cash for my drugs. I pay cash for my testing supplies. I pay cash to my doctor and to a professional lab for diagnostic tests.
Now thru the wonders of Barakonomics they are deeming that I must also pay cash out of pocket for Obamacare. A healthcare program that requires me to pay premiums for 4 years with absolutely NO benefits.
Now under Barakonomics the government can count the same dollars twice or even three times. I can’t. I have to choose. Pay for my healthcare or pay for Obamacare, I cannot do both.
So I guess I will find out how good the inmate healthcare program is.
et, I feel for ya. Assuming you are over 26 and pay taxes, your comment needs to be sent to every undecided Dem. and all the Republicans. Maybe MM could post it too.
There is NO WAY in hell this bill can be accurately scored! The CBO pulled a number out of their butts that was under 1 trillion so the dems could claim victory on the cost. They are obviously in the pocket of the progressives. There is no other explanation for this. How can you score a bill that isn’t even completely written?
They aren’t passing it – they’re deeming it, and with the mounting monumental backlash I seriously doubt they will try that. This whole thing sounds like a coach down 17 points with 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter saying, “We’re going to win this!”
How many trillion dollar mash ups has the CBO had to score this year? These people must be brain dead by now.
I wonder how long it will be before congress decides that all diabetics need to be monitored 24/7 by recording all blood sugars, A1Cs, and diets? If it flucuates too much, they may force the patients to closer monitoring. Their rationale will be to “save money”.
Everybody knows that the actual cost will be more than double or triple whatever the government projects and savings will be less than they predict.
The actual additional toll to the deficit each year and America’s running debt total will be astronomical. The biggest cost will be the unmeasurable costs to each citizen as they will not be access the system as efficiently as they do today and their quality of care and options will be signifigantly reduced as well.
The choice many americans face is the choice between what I want (big screen t.v., new car) and what I need (home, food, insurance, clothing). When a government ALLOWS it’s citizens to even contemplate that choice by saying certain perks are rights, it has lost the battle against socialism, and may as well speed up the inevitable financial collapse so as not to prolong the suffering. NO state, country, or world can GIVE free healthcare to people by TAXING THE RICH. There simply aren’t that many of them. So surprise, if you and your spouse have an income of $50k each…YOUR RICH AND NEED TO BE TAXED AT 28%.
Sorry cbo, you have no way in this world to score this because you have no idea what the final bill will look like! I wonder if the cbo scored the student loan crud in the bill also? This whole thing is one big, big LIE!
L
When they say that, they want you to think of limos and mansions. The real “rich” will be anyone who pays taxes. Look for higher premiums coupled with higher taxes.
Mark Twain once said, “A statistic is like a woman of the night. Once you get it down you can do most anything you want with it.”
That reminder seems appropriate in this instance.
The good news is 81% of Americans think Obamacare will be woefully underestimated in terms of its total cost. The Dems have no cover with the American people with any CBO numbers.
The problem is that a lot of people choose the tv or new car instead of health insurance. That dumps the cost on the rest of us.
This fascist/socialist bill removes all the penalties for financial irresponsibility. In the real world, pain is the price for stupidity.
Figures lie and liars figure.
Does anyone really believe these numbers? What government estimate has ever come close to being accurate? And since when is spending $940 BILLION considered some sort of fiscal responsibility?
I hope they all rot. We have played by the rules. Paid our taxes, obeyed the laws. We were not out their as professional protesters like many on the left with their union thugs and ACORN criminals. Maybe it’s time to bring out the bats and tire irons and play the game their way. November elections cannot get here fast enough.
Lying and conniving are part and parcel to these people.
Puzzling Statement: Obama Says ‘Louisiana Purchase’ Will Help With the Earthquake in Hawaii
Yep, no one thought the CBO report would not be “good news” for the Marxist scumbags.
They are not going to have the money to pay for this:
*Less jobs = less collected taxes.
*30 million more people coming into clinics for care that is free.
*Border crossings will increase due to reduced border security.
*Baby boomers are retiring and will not only start collecting Soc Security, but won’t be paying the amount in taxes they paid while working.
*More kids going to college via gov’t aid = more $$.
*Government jobs (created by stimulus $$) will run out.
*And my guess that the uber-rich will move out of the country.
to name a few …
Watched the Liar in Chief on Fox and cannot believe what has happened to the country my brother gave his life for in WWII. Grandson on way to Afghanistan soon after 3X in Iraq. Gramma may want hip replacement in a few years – a new and vastly improve surgical technique w/rapid recovery – the wonderful young orthopaedist may have gone to school for nothing because his patients will be taking pain pills.
I have an acquaintance who falls into that category. He lives in Brazil, and told me last year that the number of American millionaires fleeing the country was just incredible.
Marco, and I hate to be cynical but my gut tells me that they are the ones who have supported Democrats for many years. Sure hope I’m wrong because those people should stay here and pay for this mess!
I heard, the other day, on the radio, that the “rich” can move out of the country, but their wealth and assests have to stay here, unless they pay a huge penalty in taxes to move it. I don’t know if it is true or not, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Th CBO numbers are just for show so the Dems can say to their constituents “See? What a great deal!” Nobody in Washington believes any of these numbers which are probably off on the cost side by a factor of at least five. It will quickly bankrupt the insurance companies and/or drive premiums through the roof even faster, forcing ever higher subsidies and programs. Dems don’t care and even are gleeful at this impending disaster. Since Dems are on a suicide mission and care nothing for America this nightmare will probably become law of the land.
Still, passed by a vote or deemed into existence, it will never become fully implemented and will crumble with the rest of the welfare state entitlements within ten years. (See California for a preview) This country and many of the states are bordering on bankruptcy and there is simply no money for the programs in existence, much less another wasteful government bureaucracy and it’s dependents. Obama and Pelosi may deem otherwise but reality cannot be changed by decree.
So the CBO now scores promises? If this is the case, the CBO should be immediately shut down. They are as worthless as the promises the Democrats are making.
Steve McCroskey: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.
Steve McCroskey: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.
Steve McCroskey: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
Steve McCroskey: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines.
And how much will the deficit be reduced if this bill doesn’t pass? We will be saving a whole lot of money without this bill.
What may very well be the most important news of the day is the failure of the European Union.
The IMF will now be involved in bailing out Greece. So what is the point of having the EU? Can Europe solve it’s own problems or not? Why are the Democrats and Assistant Democrats so insistent on transforming America into Europe?
$940 billion
My rule of thumb to project the actual cost for any government program: Take their intial estimate, double it, then multiply by pi (3.14). That gets you CLOSE to the first year.
For out-year costs (within a decade), you need to start squaring numbers.
After that, all bets are off.
Because the US now rewards failure?

There still is no official CBO score!
Paging Dr Kevorkian!
Paging Dr Kevorkian!
Obviously the side-effects of Botox on the brain!
Saw on Hot Air that the CBO denies it’s put any numbers out there yet…
“Update III: Paul Ryan’s office has just released a statement saying that the CBO denies that they have completed their analysis:
The Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that there is currently no official cost estimate. “
The word I’d use is maniacal.
That’s the general rule their. Although I think the actual number will be even much higher than that. Also, how can anyone say ANY government program will ever save money?
I am assuming when they say they are saving money, they mean they will reimburse providers (doctors, hospitals, pharmacies) at a rate at which they lose money. Pharmacies are already starting to refuse new Medicaid prescriptions.
So, will this mean they will mandate providers take their patients/prescriptions at a loss? If so, the providers will just cut their losses and go out of the business entirely.
This entire fiasco is just pure insanity.
Forgot to add. Great Airplane reference Rogue.
Can someone please cite the last time the CBO estimate was either correct or more than the actual cost?
Heck, I’m expecting the 3000% reduction in the national debt to hit any time now.
And now, the MA delegation led by majority floor whip Stephen Lynch looks shaky for Obama. This is especially significant because it reminds everyone about the Scott Brown election and no one is safe in November.
Will it pass. I do not know. What I do know is that this administration and the Democratic Party are a failure. They have ignored the voice of the people and have betrayed their oath of office. It is time for a CHANGE.
The silk sows purse.
Uncle Dem wants you! Under his thumb.
Those wavering are acting like a male black widow during mating season.
Make the wrong move and you will be eaten alive.
You could fit all the courage in their caucus into a thimble and still have room for your thumb.
Good.
But sadly, the public does seem to be buying into the idea that increasing government intrusion vis a vis “healthcare reform” is a good idea, when it isn’t even legal.
What should be happening is a rollback of the current level of government intrusion into this area (and others) of our lives.

Yup… RICH.. (if you’re a liberal-socialist) is any family where both husband and wife work and get paid a decent wage. It’s not uncommon to have working couples in or near major cities making $200K or more per year. That may sound like a lot… and in many places it is a lot. But in NYC for example….. it’s not a lot. Well off perhaps. But not RICH. And by the way….. this hypothetical couple likely works hard and paid their dues so to speak and earn that money. And they probably donate a lot to charity of their own free will.
But in liberal bizzaro world… they are RICH and the gov’t needs to confiscate their money to pay for entitlement programs.
“Spread the wealth around.” -Obama to Joe the Plumber.
The Democrats are trying to turn the discussion into one about their misinterpretation of the CBO report rather than the effects of 500+ Billion in NEW taxes.
With these taxes effecting EVERYONE, the Democrats do not want them to be discussed.
Garbage in garbage out. The CBO results are only as good as the fabricated numbers being fed them by Pelosi. She has apparently figured out that the
CommunistsDemocrats can achieve conquest by backing into a faked (and favorable) result. This is a common practice among Wall Street and Enron-style criminals. I’m surprised they have only now resorted to this. I assumed that was an integral part of their playbook/MO.And eventually the liberal taxaholics run out of other people’s money. And after our glorious leaders take their share, whats left will be perpetual shortages and rationing of everything but misery for those whom they make dependant on their entitlement programs.
Was there a secret deal to the director of the CBO to make sure the bill comes in under a trillion? I wouldn’t doubt that it wa scored higher than a trillion and they went back to Nancy to make a change like paying for another year before benefits kick in to keep the cost only in the BILLIONS.
Hey, no matter what, make sure it doesn’t get out of the billions. Kinda like the item that costs $9.99. Everybody says it costs $9 not $10.
Nine hundred forty billion dollars (that we don’t have) – is that all?! -why then by all means people, pass the bill! Let the euphoria ring out!
I’m sure there will be no unforeseen cost overruns, dips in revenues, excessive usages or enrollments, shortages in medical facilities or personnel, inflationary increases in pricing and material expenses, etc … you know, the kinda stuff that naturally happens in the real-world of economics.
I wish I lived in the same CBO world Obama, Pelosi and Reid seem to inhabit – money in that world appears to never run out!
Yeah, kinda like when this bill destroys our economy that same item you can now get for $9.99 will in 10 years cost $999.00, if you can get it at all, but those who can get it will say it only cost $900.00 not $1000.00.
Soooo… does the 72-hour review period start now?
Where’s the bill?
72 hours is not enough time to read 2100+ pages of legalese. That’s why our legislators don’t read the bills.
“Giddy,” hmm?
“Sell the sizzle, not the steak” has been an axiom of advertisers for decades; get the potential buyer to make an emotional decision to purchase, not a logical one. This CBO report seems to have a lot of donks salivating.
But it’s the way they operate, be it to “prove” man-caused “global warming” or to govern against the will of the majority: start with the end in mind as a fait accompli, then work backwards to “justify” how you had to screw the American People to get it.
When you’re willing to do anything to get what you want, with no regard to consequences, then anything is possible — at least in the short-term. That is why donkey-care is inevitable. The donks are prepared to do anything to have it, legal or not, true or not, ethical or not.
And once it’s in place, then unfortunately the only way to get rid of it will be for the emerging Republican majority in 2011 to be just as ruthless, just as immoral and just as unethical in finding their own gimmicks, tricks and illegalities.
The next decade or so in this country is going to be like having Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone engaged in a swordfight aboard the Titanic — each so consumed with the other that neither notices that the ship is sinking right out from underneath them.
I wonder how many people they are going to let die to cut that 130 billion out of the deficit.
Rush is reporting two Dems are saying a solid “NO” on this scam: Arcuri and Kemp.
Rush is the best. Do not give up, America.
I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s “Enron-style accounting”. I mean, Enron managed to put out financial statements that accountants actually signed off on. In contrast, nobody with even half a brain cell should believe *ANYTHING* that comes out of government when it comes to cost estimates.
House Democrats say their plan that no one has seen yet “would cut the deficit by $130 billion over the next decade, and $1.2 trillion in the second decade of the plan’s implementation.”
I have been thinking about this and I think this is the Social Security affect. I may be looking at this way to
simplistically but, I have been asking where does all the money go that is going to be stolen from everyone thats works and where will it go. The only thing I can think of is, that money will go into some void where it is supposed to stay untapped but – will actually be borrowed by the Feds and this Health care Sham will be issued IOU’s. I am almost willing to bet on that.

Wonder if those CBO numbers take in the human factor affecting management and execution of said policy, like cheating, corruption, stealing, exaggeration and incompetence. Not even NASA computer modeling is 95% accurate working with the fixed laws of the physical world. No, the sterile numbers DON’T account for the jungle of the real world.

Well, it didn’t take long for me to have an issue with the CBO report.
“Honorable Nancy Pelosi”
I’ve got a major problem with that line right there.
So what we know is the Dems crafted this in conjunction with the CBO and tweaked their data until the report said what they wanted it to say.
proof is in this statement.
At the behest of the dems.
Who’s interest does this serve? Not yours and mine.
This is not representative government. It’s tyranny. These people need to be driven from office.
James, when was the last time any entitlement program didn’t go spectacularly beyond the budget projections?
As you suspect, this is no different.
I almost wrote yesterday that Democrats love their big numbers. Michelle just tweeted that at the end of Pelosi’s press conference today, she said, “I love numbers. They’re so precise.”
Right, even as those numbers get bigger and bigger as the years/minutes drag on.
So far I see $145 billion in new taxes.
That didn’t take long.
I knew a couple of millionaires who are “out and about”. No, they’ve never supported Democrats.
Its ‘scripture’ they’ll follow when it does for them what they want;the other ‘Scripture’ they conveniently ignore.
Call them now, and use their local numbers. Tell everyone you know to call them now! This is a fight for the soul and future of the United States of America; for the country we all love, and have inherited and preserved out of the blood and treasure of our forefathers.
Will the American citizens stand and fight as our great Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen, and United States Marines, past and present, always stand and fight for our sacred liberty? This is a seminole moment in American history. We will live as one nation under God, or under government? Now is the time of decision! You must act now! Now is the time to let your voices be heard as never before. Where is the march on Washington? Where is the American spirit that never quits? Where is the American spirit that says “no” and “never again” to our enemies, and backs it up at all costs? Our soldiers are willing to die for this country’s preservation. Shall we not stand up on their behalf while they face bullets and bombs so we do not have to?
If you called already, call them again! If you have e-mailed them, do it again. If you have told your relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, tell them to call and email, and fax them again! Stop what you’re doing and do it now! Our great republic is at stake!
Think of your children; and do it for them. Look into their faces; and then pick-up the phone and get on your computer, and let them know, we are still Americans, and we will not accept tyranny from anyone – foreign or domestic. We will never surrender to state control of our lives. Tell them that when you call and email them. Tell them we are not socialists, and we will not live under it now or ever. Tell them like Churchill “We will fight them in the air; on the land; and on the seas. We will never surrender.” Tell them like John Paul Jones, “We have not yet begun to fight.” Call them now! E-mail them now! Fax them now! Let them feel the people’s power. Do it now!

Karl Marx must be laughing his long-dead @$$ off.
If this clearly unconstitutional bill passes, particularly by the clearly unconstitutional “Slaughter Solution” (sound familiar, Herr Hitler?), the streets of Washington, D.C. will run red with the blood of Democrats.
Our Constitution was written over 230 years ago…and it’s still easy to read and understand…. trying to read this bill..this is what happens when you put lawyers and such into political office, you get bills you can read with out a legal dictionary and a pile of books of laws dating back to the founding of this country, just tio find out what they’re striking through, changing, adding, or omitting.
Ah, I know where it goes and that is the underlying scam that is happening. They are redistributing wealth. Taking it from those who have earned it either by hard work or the hard work of their parents, grandparents etc to give it to the poor people without regard to who may or may not have worked hard.
They will use healthcare as one means. They already used housing and my 401k lost 20% of its value. Where did it go? To poor people who can’t afford a house. And on & on it goes until we all have lower class net incomes and the money runs out.
So…um… the Democrats are crowing that Obamacare reduces the deficit by $138 billion over ten years. They just thre that much down the deficit rat hole in the month of February alone. Just as they will every month THIS FREAKING YEAR.
Something to really be proud of Congress.
CBO is a numbers crunching arm of the Congress and doing these computations on the narrow guidelines and phony assumptions for many many years.
SO, When was the last time actual costs for any legislation were at or under CBO extimates?
CBO MUST publish their computing variables and formulas they used in coming up with their cost / deficit numbers for the socialized medicine, so that we – the nazi astro-turfing tea-baggers – can verify them.
