GOP fights again: Cantor introduces privileged resolution challenging Slaughter Solution; Dems move to table the motion, 232-181
GOP Rep. Eric Cantor is on the House floor right now introducing a privileged resolution challenging the Slaughter Solution and condemning deem-and-pass. The clerk is now reading it into the record. Democrat House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer moves to table the motion. Boos break out on the House floor. Recorded vote underway. Stand by…
Here is the text:
H. RES. __
RESOLUTION
Raising a question of the privileges of the House.
Whereas at least three members of the House Democratic Leadership have endorsed a procedural tactic for the sole purpose of avoiding an up-or-down vote, by the yeas and nays, on the Senate-passed health care bill;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 Representative James Clyburn, the House Majority Whip, stated, “We will deem passed the Senate bill…”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, The Washington Post reported, “After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate’s health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it. Instead, Pelosi (D–Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand…”;
Whereas in the same Washington Post article, the Speaker declared, “…I like it because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, McClatchy Newspapers reported Representative John Larson, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, stated, “Many of our members would prefer not to have voted for the Senate bill.”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 9, U.S. News and World Report reported, “Pelosi gaffed, telling the local elected officials assembled ‘that Congress [has] to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it, away from the fog of controversy.’”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, The Washington Post editorialized, “…what is intended as a final sprint threatens to turn into something unseemly and, more important, contrary to Democrats’ promises of transparency and time for deliberation. …[I]t strikes us as a dodgy way to reform the health-care system. Democrats who vote for the package will be tagged with supporting the Senate bill in any event.”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, the Cincinnati Enquirer editorialized, “This disgusting process, which Democrats brazenly wish to bring to conclusion this week, is being done with little regard for the opinions of a clear majority of Americans who, while they may believe health care reform is necessary, think this particular approach will take our nation down the wrong economic path.”;
Whereas bipartisan members of the House and Senate have expressed their opposition to using the Slaughter Solution;
Whereas on Wednesday, March 10, Representative Joe Donnelly released the following statement, “The process over the past few months has been frustrating, including the cutting of unacceptable special deals to assure a few senators’ votes.”;
Whereas Representative Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania has characterized the exploitation of the Slaughter Solution by Democratic Leadership as “wrong” and unpopular among his constituents;
Whereas on Friday, March 12, POLITICO reported on a memo sent from Representative Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, to freshman and sophomore House Democrats that stated, “At this point, we have to just rip the band-aid off… Things like reconciliation and what the rules committee does is INSIDE BASEBALL.”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, Roll Call reported, “Hoyer argued that the American public isn’t interested in the process lawmakers use for approving reforms…”;
Whereas on Tuesday, March 16, Representative James Clyburn told Fox News, “Controversy doesn’t bother me at all.”;
Whereas the Democratic leadership of the House has conducted a calculated and coordinated attempt to willfully deceive the American people by embracing the “Slaughter Solution”;
Whereas resorting to the “Slaughter Solution” in this circumstance, is being done to intentionally hide from the American people a future vote that Members of Congress may take on the Senate-passed health care legislation;
Whereas the deceptive behavior demonstrated by the Democratic Leadership has brought discredit upon the House of Representatives; and
Whereas the Democratic leadership has willfully abused its power to chart a legislative course for the Senate health care bill that is deliberately calculated to obfuscate what the House will vote on, in an illegitimate effort to confuse the public and thereby fraudulently insulate certain Representatives from accountability for their conduct of their offices:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House disapproves of the malfeasant manner in which the Democratic Leadership has thereby discharged the duties of their offices.

Update 5:48pm Eastern. The arm-twisters are prevailing. The measure is 232-181 with 18 not voting (11 Ds and 7Rs).
So much for that courage thing…

Rep. Cantor and Rep. Ryan have my votes for anything. Keep fighting.
May God save America. Keep praying.
With the Coburn warning for soon to be unemployed Demonrats from the House not to expect smooth sailing to cabinet under-secretary positions or judgeships, well, I like giving the Dems another chance to really be on record as favoring hell care whether they have an up or down vote on the Senate bill or not.
Coburn/Cantor 2012…
Or Cantor/Coburn.
Just for the fun of watching the Arab world react to the US having a Jewish Commander in Chief.
Stand strong Eric we are behind you. We will not bow, nor will we forget those that try to enslave us.
Cantor/Ryan just might make a great ticket 2012.
So why are House Democrats so afraid of going on record voting for somthing so “wonderful” as Obamacare?
As kids, we had a phrase for it:
Chicken****
If I were in the House when the vote was called I would walk out.
That’s great. A silly exercise — no donk is going to go along with that language — but it sure feels good to read. Reminds me of the scene from The Outlaw Josey Wales, when the “redlegs” sucker Josey’s outfit to come in and surrender, only to massacre them:
“Alright, I want you men to raise your right hands so I can take your oath: I pledge that I will be loyal to the United States of America… that I will, uh, abide by its law… that I will never bear arms against it… and recognize that it is one nation… and I further swear that though I be murderous, verminous, lyin’ — FIRE!!”
I think a resolution barring representatives that vote for the slaughter solution from receiving pensions when they are voted out of office might be a nice touch. Once it’s tabled, it can be brought up by future congresses to be made law.
The Dems really don’t like admitting that they can’t transform the country into a dictatorship. We are learning just what they think of the public who funds their nonsense. Pathetic, Treasonous Thugs!!!!
It seems to me just issuing a “disapproval” at this point is a hollow gesture. There needs to be a constitutional challenge, and if this travesty gets through every last GOP representative needs to walk out of the chamber en masse – then immediately file a constitutional challenge.
After reviewing a lengthy definition of fascism and the behavior it exudes, I believe that it would be appropriate to add it to the definition of “Democrat”.
The House Republicans have shot all their wad, and have no more powder with which to return the Democrats’ salute.
They are trying really hard to pull it off now aren’t they….Treasonous tyrants!
It just occured to me….if Obama stays in Washington for the vote instead of going to Indonesia, the vote is doomed. This has shades of “Chicago Olympic bid” written all over it.
On the other hand, if he goes to Indonesia, he may find that he has been “replaced” when he gets back. After all, with “deem and pass”, we have offficially become a banana Republic.
This is it folks.
From the Corner National Review:
The Dems are obviously willing to fall on their swords to have this Obamanation as their legacy. Fine – let’s give them the opportunity and then proceed with Constitutional challenges.
One wonders what kind of “severance” deals were offered to these traitorous scumbags.
McCotter on the house floor today takes one minute to sum this freak show up very nicely. I think we could safely say he disapproves.
Well said Thaddeus.
***
HI BRUCE–#17 My humble suggestion for a really great “severance” deal can be found in the TALE OF TWO CITIES book. Refer to the Madame DeFarge / Marie Antoinette / King Louis XVI solution on removing traitorous rulers.

KACHUNGGGG! That’s gotta smart! I’m not a Francophile–but sometimes I like their style. Bring on the high tech.

I read on Drudge that the dems won’t rule out using the Deem bill to pass amnesty.
There is nothing they won’t stoop to.
Broken record. This is a coup. There are no rules. Expect no quarter.
The only thing we can do is reciprocate in kind until it is so painful and bloody that they stop.
FIFY
Tyranny. No longer soft tyranny just outright blatant tyranny. God help us.
Never did understand that term from Mark Levin.
soft tyranny = jumbo shrimp
Thanks!
tigerlady,
God does not help those who do not help themselves,the whole freewill thing.
With the promise of escalation to other legislation, we will know shortly what Americans are made of.
it is what it is and DC is not the front.
I agree. It’s hard to not believe that we are getting just what we’ve asked for (or deserve), only some of us haven’t asked for it. I’ve been reading the book of Jeremiah where God is laying out His plan to allow the destruction of Israel. I keep wondering if this is our Babylon?
Keep praying to the One who has the power to lower the ocean levels. It isn’t Duh Won.
McCotter said all that needs to be said. The House Repubs are fighting this as hard as they can and the Senate Repubs are AWOL. Why are they not railing against this deem passed BS.
Maybe the old adage “if you’re not with me you’re against me” might be the answer. These politicians must not be worried about their re-elections.
Makes you wonder what is really going on, doesn’t it?
Barak Obama is our national judgement for the tolerance of abortion, homosexuality and idolatry.
2 Chronicles 7:14 is the solution, but then again, we know that.
This is definitely not off topic but I urge everyone here to donate toward Mark Levin’s lawsuit against the slaughter rule. You can go onto his website and use PayPal.
Exactly Jangar.
I know the majority of Democrats are not traitors (Shuler, Baird), but why would they all continue to be part of such an onerous Party that is clearly Marxian Socialist and anti-American at its core? The Democratic Party is neither fundamentally Democratic nor American. And it is by definition NOT the party of your grandparents.
The soft tyranny Levin speaks of is that siren call that numbs the Democrat politicians and their constituencies both: You can have an easy life, just let government have the permanent power to provide it for you. In doing so, most of those gray and timid souls don’t realize that they have sold off their birthright, their freedoms, and any hope of a better life for the porridge bowl of some “free” handouts at the expense of others. Sin and foolishness are their own rewards.
I am fearful that once this passes the hard tyranny is soon to follow, and there will be huge numbers of people across the nation who will not submit to it easily.
Will not submit to it …period. Resistance by ANY means required if it came to that. They would be attacking our country. And we would be required to protect it.
But we’re not there yet. The fight to be fought is before us. Those that actively support this soft tyranny and those that allow it to happen must be purged from government. They must be exposed for what they are. A full third of the population won’t object to the tyranny. A third already does. The remaining third needs to be convinced.
Gee, now there’s a shock, the minority party in congress loses a vote. I think I heard Michelle, Hannity, Rush and others say ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES. IF YOU ELECT COMMUNISTS, OH WELL, YOU GET WHAT YOU VOTED FOR. TO ALL MY BLUE HAIRED LIBERALS, WAIT FOR THAT 4 YEARS OF TAXATION OF MEDICARE BENEFITS BEFORE THE DONUT HOLE FIX. NOW THAT’S CHANGE WE ALL CAN DIE WITH.
The section in the bill that will force citizens to buy insurance or go to jail must be immediately challenged in court.
Is any group getting ready to challenge this provision before the Supreme Court?
