Star Parker Running for Congress?

By La Shawn Barber  •  March 23, 2010 02:07 PM

Star ParkerI’ll admit my bias up front: I really dig Star Parker.

When I first met the former “welfare queen” back in 2004, it was like meeting a rock star. I shared a panel with her at a conservative student conference. I was so nervous, my voice shook. She was relaxed, funny, and informative.

In this month’s issue of World magazine, editor Marvin Olasky says Parker is running for U.S. Congress against Rep. Laura Richardson. It’s about time.

In her autobiography and in the article, Parker admits to some hard things. She’s had several abortions. She did drugs, cheated the welfare system, and committed crimes. The rough road led to a dramatic change of lifestyle and beliefs. She surrendered her life to Christ, became pro-life, and sounded the alarm against government dependency. Parker encourages those living on handouts to break the chains of poverty and find purpose and meaning in their lives.

In Uncle Sam’s Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America’s Poor and What We Can Do About It, Parker traced the shift in America’s attitude from a belief in strong families and hard work to the flawed idea that the government’s role is to solve social problems.

“Social engineers of the late 1960s told Americans that black people could not take control over the poverty in their lives due to centuries of racism and segregation,” Parker writes. The onus was now on society to “fix” poverty, and taxpayers are still pouring money into it. But poverty can’t be fixed with money, Parker asserts. Moral bankruptcy, caused by the scourge of relativism, must be overcome. Government safety nets allow people to escape the consequences of personal behavior. As a result, there is little incentive to learn from bad behavior.

A woman who thinks like that needs to run for office. Don’t miss her column at Townhall.

Here it comes we will see an onslaught of the smear campaigners from the left. I read Star religiously and she is going to be a huge threat to their agenda.A sense of purpose and morals or the 2 things they hate the most. The fact she found God and turned her life around is out of the realm of possiblity to them. What if they find out she mentors many children you just might get to see the socialists head explode. They forgot to instill in her no matter how hard they tried that she couldn’t succeed and we are the better for it.

Why wonder when you can ask a question? That is what I did in reference to Star Parker. Maybe there is someone out there who could actually answer the questions. Are you afraid of questions?

No, I do not know that law enforcement would be all over that. The Justice Department is not pursuing the Philadelphia voter intimidation case and they have dropped their investigation of the WV Congressman who had his feet in the fire. Law enforcement does not always do what we expect them to do.

Could it be that the satute of limitations have expired on any crimes she has committed? I don’t know and am not afraid of saying so. Therefore, I ask questions. In fact it is something that should have been addressed in the blurb about her.

I addressed and congratulated her on her conversion, but one line could have made it clear that her conversion included making things right.

“but I would like to know more” – buy her book.

That is a possibility, but I am more likely to use the socialist publicly funded utility recommended by Glenn Beck to educate myself, as he did . . . the public library.

Why are you afraid of having a discussion? What is exactly wrong with asking questions and getting answers? Is having a fuller understanding of the facts an anathema to you? Are you afraid of answers?

I addressed 24KLady’s response to my post, and even asked more questions. I provided additional information. Do you have a problem with that? Do you want her to shut up, too? Is that your answer to everything you may disagree with? Shut up?

Offer a logical deconstruction of my statements, a rational explanation to my questions, . . . or, don’t.

But, ‘shut up’ does not advance either of our thoughts, opinions, concerns, and/or comments.

When you are incapable of thoughtfully adding to the discussion, I can understand you . . . shutting up.

My questions are sincere, ones of curiousity, and consistent to the subject matter reported in the blurb. I have no agenda. Moreover, she is not in my Congressional District. Can’t vote for her, but I could send her money.

I would just like to know if her conversion came with consequences for her behaviour.

Avoid speculation and ask a question. You’ll get an answer.

Nothing against New York Public libraries or those who voluntarily gave their money to it. However, there are many government funded libraries across our Nation. Is that socialism? Are libraries in the Constitution?

My hope is that the socialism that supports my local library has a copy of Star Parker’s book so that I might have my questions answered.

Why is the assumption that she “stole” anything? “Cheating the welfare system” was the only thing remotely related to it and she didn’t specify. Why do you assume?

Isn’t the fact that she’s a productive member of society, self-supporting and reaching out to assist others like her through her organization, C.U.R.E., payment enough for her past debts? What more pound of flesh would you like to exact?

President Jug Ears Obama enumerates a variety of legal transgressions in the books that “he” wrote. Has he made amends for these or payed retribution? I wonder.

I don’t know whether he made amends or not. Though the thread is about Star Parker, yes Pres Obama should reveal if he has made amends.

If you want to know more, write her and ask or read her web site. Just curious as a black person myself why these are the first questions you ask of a black woman who has straightened her life out?

It was already suggested that I buy her book however I am more likely to go to the publicly funded (socialist) libraries as suggested by Glenn Beck to learn more.

The questions I ask are relevant because the issue of her past were prominently mentioned in the blurb and did you happen to read the title of her book? That she is black has no relevance. That you are black has no relevance.

    Are you afraid of questions?

She gets a quick “good on you..BUT…” and it’s on to trying to dig dirt up THAT SHE ALREADY CONFESSED.

Nope. Not digging up dirt. The dirt is already there. I would like to know the elements of her positive conversion, which include any amends. Amends are not dirt, but yes, having not made them can be considered dirt. Haven’t thought of it that way, but thanks for putting the thought in my mind.

Why is the assumption that she “stole” anything? “Cheating the welfare system” was the only thing remotely related to it and she didn’t specify. Why do you assume?

I assumed nothing because the blurb said she cheated the welfare system. Cheating versus stealing. How do you cheat the welfare system and not call it stealing? OK, you have difficulty with semantics and synonyms. You are welcome to press the point, I will not.

Isn’t the fact that she’s a productive member of society, self-supporting and reaching out to assist others like her through her organization, C.U.R.E., payment enough for her past debts? What more pound of flesh would you like to exact?

No. We are a nation of laws. There are rules and requirements to come back into the good graces of society. Your logic suggests that a mass murder who goes onto write successful children’s books should somehow get a pass. I don’t. Yes, good on the mass murderer for the positive contribution, but I want that societal debt paid, too.

Among the many things that are great about our country are the second chances we allow. This is a good thing.

I do not want a pound of flesh. Where Star Parker is, is where she is, and good for her. I will find out the answers to my questions since no one else has them.

Do you get the impression she’s trying to HIDE anything??

No. I have no impression of what she is trying to do. I do have the impression that the blurb is incomplete and more information should have been provided.

Would you like to know more about Obama’s birth certificate? His grades in college? His drug use?

No. I know all I need to know about Pres Obama’s birth certificate.

No. I have no interest in Pres Obama’s grades in college, and hope no one has an interest in mine. That was over twenty five years ago and why would it matter?

No. I know all I need to know about Pres Obama’s drug use.

Answering questions is easy. You should try it.

This is precisely why you come off as a jerk.

Because I ask questions? Because you assign motive to my questions? Or, is it because you are afraid of questions?

I can’t say I’d be sorry if you stopped coming to this blog for good.

    OK, that is an opinion.

My hope is that you continue to return to this blog and post your comments, opinions and questions. And, should any of that be directed towards me, I will respond.

I have no fears on this blog and I avoid throwing perjoratives, invectives, and name calling.

    I will be here.

Your observations, speculation and opinions are one thing. Cutting and pasting my words to prove your assertions is another.

Don’t be afraid of the questions. Answer them honestly. I welcome your deconstruction of my arguments. But, only if you can.

In other words the social engineers and the black pundits like Jesse Jackson are simply speaking racists, people who think blacks are inherently inferior and must be taken care of in a neat slave owner’s cocoon. They just pushed the slave ownership up to the level of government. They still worked to keep blacks relegated to a neat tidy slavery of victimhood.
