The ‘Catch and Wreck’ Game
When I was 11 years old way back in the day, I still wanted to play with dolls (but was too embarrassed to ask for one for Christmas), and the most dangerous activity my friends and I engaged in was falling off our bikes.
Today’s hormone-laden little monsters roam the streets like a pack of wolves, attacking anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path—and not carrying a gun.
Kids these days.
Two preteens assaulted a woman walking home through a playground as part of a violent game called “Catch and Wreck,” in which children identify targets they think are homeless and then beat and rob them for fun, police said Tuesday.
An 11-year-old boy was arrested Monday night and charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy and robbery, Philadelphia police Lt. John Walker said.
A 12-year-old girl was charged shortly after the Friday night attack in southwest Philadelphia. The victim was surrounded by children, then punched and hit with sticks, police said. She suffered minor injuries to her knee and head and delayed seeking medical attention to help police with the investigation.
Police also plan to charge the boy in an attack on a 73-year-old man who was beaten and robbed in the same area on March 13, Walker said. The victim in that assault, Vincent Poppa, suffered a heart attack and remains hospitalized.
No more ring-around-the-rosie. Maybe spending some quality time in juvvie will straighten them out. But once caught up in the criminal justice system, well…
What’s fun about hurting people, especially people you don’t know and who never did anything to you? I feel bad if I even thought I may have hurt someone’s feelings, let alone stomping the person’s head into the ground. I guess they don’t make consciences like they used to. I blame Bush.

Epic fail from thier parents, or lack of them, school and social systems they’ve already encountered, obviously requiring nor demanding personal moral accountability from them.
Well, if they survive the criminal justice system, more like the criminal learning system, they will probably find out how to improve their criminal methods and become even more cold and callous from those more experienced criminals already in the system.
There is always hope for them, but to truly reform their hearts and minds will take more than just being caught up in the criminal justice system.
Wonder how these little darling would feel if they picked on some retired military person who knew how to fight back and give to them as they gave to him?

I’ve often thought that, if I had a kid who turned out like these worthless wastes of space and human resources, I’d throw it in the river with a stone tied around its neck, go home, and start over.

But seriously, with kids not having any parental stability or control at home, regardless of the family’s income bracket, and the proliferation of violent videos and video games, I guess this is what we can expect. Any bets on whether those kids’ folks took them to church? Or going one further, do you suppose any of them ever heard the Bible story of the Good Samaritan? Our problems are cultural as well as political.
That person would then be arrested and booked for assault on minors.

This type of activity has always happened, it just wasn’t reported nationaly. Of course, it’s sexed up by use of social media and video sharing sites too.
One sign of getting old is lamenting “the kids these days.”
Where I lived growing up, the thugs (we called them rednecks at the time) beat up people of color when they could be found alone. It wasn’t reported then unless the law was called. Today it would be national “news.” I’m sure the targets vary by region, but small bands of kids have always beat up on helpless people for fun.
No mention of the race of these young attackers in this story. Anyone know the racial-makeup of “southwest Philadelphia”?

I’m sorry, I presumed that homeless were protected. Hunting season is always open on white-tailed middle class.
If an older person is attacked by kids and knows how to defend themselves, they have a ‘right’ to do so. If the law would file charges against the older person for defending his or her life, they better not try to put me on the jury! I will let the older person go free. These kids think they get a get out of jail card because they are kids.

Those kids have totally dysfunctional lives.
Kids need to be taught empathy via words and observation. I think back to the first time I saw my toddler carrying a stray cat around in our yard by the neck. I had to explain to her about caring for other things.

Since the 1930′s we’ve been headed towards a socialist utopia similar to the mad max movies. And since the 70′s we have accelerated the process, and now we are moving at warp speed towards our destruction.

“Catch and Wreck” is the least of Philadelphia’s problems. Over the weekend we had a flash mob involving near a thousands teens.
This would be the 6th one in a year.
For his part, Mayor Nutter-(D(uh)) seems to think it wasn’t that big of a deal

After reading this article, I would say that this suprises me, but after teaching in Memphis (and being forced out) nothing suprises me anymore.
I dread the day that an adult while in fear for thier life drops a child with a measure of superior force (.380 or higher).
Sadly two West Memphis police officers shot a 12 year old 3 years ago when the kid aimed and refused to drop a gun. Ultimately the kids gun was found to a toy.
I can only imagine the trouble an adult is going to face if they defend themselves against one of these “little angels”.

Interesting question you pose at the end of your story: “What’s fun about hurting people…(especially old people)?”
Some people believe that they derive their power from the act of hurting others. I see this behavior most prominently in people who have little natural ability but when they can hurt someone else, they savor such conquests. They feel vindicated in their mistaken belief in their own superiority. Same bunch of immature and small-minded criminals in Washington DC. They will hurt everyone around them to feel powerfull. Where are the responsible adults?
I don’t know her whole story, but I would be astonished if she ever did anything like this.
There is an extreme difference between swindling the system/drug use and this kind of kicks seeking, violent predatory behavior targeting the weak.
In other words, lefties offspring.
Many of these kids needed good spankings from the time they were old enough to learn that decisions have consequinces. Those on the streets should be rounded up like the little animals they are, and locked up, and the parents fined or locked up too.
I am so sick of kids doing what they want to, and adults saying oh the poor children. Give them X and Y , whatever the little monsters want.
No one is suppposed to spank anymore. (I’m not talking beating)But they say “reason with them”. You can’t reason with them. They do not have an adult brain to be reasoned with. First spank then tell them why. They learn that bad behavior brings bad results.
I’m 73 years old..these rules worked from the beginning, and would still work if liberals would stop acting like it’s a crime to spank!!
This is why I stopped teaching in public schools. I went into teaching to HELP kids learn and appreciate history only to learn that they don’t even want to learn about and appreciate themselve. Children have definitely changed and not for the better.
I’ve been accused of “racism” by a multitude of teens (Latinos and Blacks mostly) for just asking them to be quiet and behave. I’ve been harassed by these kids for setting expectations for behavior that no other adult would or could. I was just a substitute teacher for a day in some instances so I was just in these environments for a little while and these kids made my life MISERABLE.
I’ve also been threatened with violence by kids who are much bigger and taller than me. I’m a petite 5 feet, 2 inches and took these threats seriously. I had to call security in one instance to have a black male escorted out of a classroom for repeatedly harassing me, acting up, and accusing me of racism because I’m white and don’t understand blacks.
This is why I think many liberals are so passive about such behavior and the decline of the American childhood. Kids aren’t allowed to be kids anymore. Liberals are now dictating what they learn, what they eat/drink, and how much interaction and control parents have over them. Liberals like this kind of behavior and shrug it off. That’s the kind of reaction I got from school administrators when I wrote these kids up for disorderly conduct, harassmant, threatening demeanor among many things.
Tolerating this crap is just another nail in the coffin of our country. I would never allow my child to attend a public school because of my personal and professional experiences. Any liberal who thinks that public education is another right that should be preserved should take a look at the juvenile delinquents, their absentee parents, and how they rule schools today.

My wife and I like to notice, when these little sociopaths are on the evening news, how the family members interviewed by the talking heads always defend the little bastards…..”He one good boy, yeah, he wen nevah hurt nobody before, yeah?” or “He just one luving child, nevah geet in trouble, I no can believe.”
Also interesting is that waaaay too many times, the muddah has a different last name from the kid, and the foddah lives in a separate location.

I have walked the streets of MANY major cities at night. The only time I ever faced a potential threat was in Philadelphia, where this story originated.
If I see things like this occuring frequently in several places in our country, then it will get my attention. This incident as far as I am concerned is a local incident.
If we can’t teach them about God, they have no foundational sense of right and wrong.

Crimes like this happen because we as a society refuse to take common sense measures to stop it.
I lived in Philadelphia for 2 years in the 1990′s and was shocked by the politically correct attitude in that city that allowed crime to flourish.
When the newspapers reported a robbery/mugging they would provide the suspect’s gender, height and weight, but never ever would they mention the suspect’s race. How can citizens help to find a suspect based on such a generic description? Don’t they want to catch the suspect?
When we had a meeting to discuss increasing crime in the neighborhood with security officials, I suggested that it would be helpful if they would stop allowing people to intimidate shoppers by standing at the local grocery store door and begging for money as shoppers exited. The response I got from the man who was supposed to be in charge of our security was: “Scooter? You want me to get rid of Scooter? But he has been there for years.” Yes! I wanted him to get rid of Scooter!
At traffic stops, Philadelphia was filled with “Squeegee Guys” who would wash the windows of stopped cars with dirty water and then demand payment for their “service.” If I knew where these guys were on a regular basis, surely the Police could find them and stop this intimidation.
My friend’s mother taught kindergarten in Philadelphia for decades. She decided to retire when the “crack babies” arrived and made it too hard to control her KINDERGARTEN class.
If you want to stop crime, stop enabling it!
- Stop the political correctness!

An armed society is a polite society. We have always had the brute, the thug, the bully and sociopath and they did much damage. Sadly the day of the miscreant judging badly and losing big time is over. There was a time when such youths just might end up getting buried in the bottom of a canal. The crawdads make short work of any problems.
We never did eat crawdads for some reason.
If these kids are this lawless now what will it be like when they are adult? Does anyone think they will buy health insurance etc? Lotsa luck with that.

There have been thuggish teenagers for decades. What’s shocking about this is that these are elementary-to-middle school-aged kids. The thugs are getting YOUNGER. And it’s not just this incident. This is becoming more common.
Based on experience, many of these kids are not “little” 4’11″, 90 lb. punklings. I’ve seen 13-year-olds standing at 6’1″ and weighing 200 lbs.. If the girls develop sooner, they can have the appearance and strength of grown women. “Children” like that can do a lot of damage.
