Philly Flash Mobs
For “fun,” groups of amoral young thugs-in-training are roaming the streets of Philadelphia, intimidating passers-by and sometimes attacking them.
The police are trying to crack down on so-called flash mobs, marauding bands of teenage pinheads with little or non-existent parental supervision, by threatening to hold parents responsible. From the New York Times:
In the past year, at least four of the flash mobs have broken out in the city, including one on Saturday in which roving teenagers broke into fights, several onlookers were injured and at least three people were arrested.
“It was like a tsunami of kids,” said Seth Kaufman, 20, a pizza deliveryman at Olympia II Pizza & Restaurant on South Street. He lifted his shirt to show gashes along his back and arm. He also had bruises on his forehead he said were from kicks and punches he suffered while trying to keep a rowdy crowd from entering the shop, where a fight was already under way.
“By the time you could hear them yelling, they were flooding the streets and the stores and the sidewalks,” Mr. Kaufman said.
The ad hoc gangs have scared many pedestrians off the streets.
City residents are also starting to complain about the number of unsupervised children, and child advocates are asking if there are enough activities to keep young people busy after school.
Enough activities to keep young people busy after school. Give me a break.
According to media reports, the mobs began as some sort of performance art, where participants organize themselves via social networking sites. These “bored, sophisticated” fools meet up at places like malls and try to enter a store en masse for shock value.
This silliness reminds me of 1960s-era sexual liberation. Fueled by white, educated, upper- and middle-class women, the so-called sexual revolution trickled down to the lower classes, who couldn’t bounce back from sexual irresponsibility the way the higher classes could. In the same vein, when the “bored, sophisticated” flash mob idea trickled down to the lower classes, it turned violent and definitely unsophisticated.
While the police are doing their part, I recommend law-abiding residents of Philly do theirs by exercising their constitutional right to bear arms. For the record, Pennsylvania is a “shall issue” concealed carry state.

I am wondering if these people are doing this just to get people so fed up, the people actually do shoot in self defense? This would give these thugs the ‘in’ to start riots, trashing buildings, cars, stealing stuff. It has happended numerous times in our country before. First let me say I LOVE Philly! I love it’s history andI love walking thru the streets imagining the great minds walking those same streets centuries before me.
HOWEVER……Philly is a Hell Hole! I am glad I never moved there as I had planned a couple of years ago.
The police can’t possibly do “their part” there as they don’t have the numbers or the will to police their own as they will be considered raaaacist.
This is a city where drive by’s are committed on bicycles and there is a whole movement of intimidation (complete with t-shirts) to discourage any cooperation with the police in regards to crime. It’s shameful!

Didn’t we already have the overwhelmingly successful midnight basketball for these type situations? It appears looking at the photo, the crowd seems a slight bit monochromatic.
Just make sure you take your CCW permit when going out at night. In fact during the day as well. There has been an explosion of permits in our state.
Speakeasy- I hate PC too. Philly is mostly black. There are is a little area in Center City which has been revitalized and renovated and has a white population but that is surrounded by really scary ghetto. I say this as a New Yorker who lived in the projects in the 80′s during the crack epidemic. If it scared me trust me Philly is scary! Especially when the kiddies get out of school and at night. South Philly (certain parts) are still Italian but for the most part the white population is in the burbs.
The police force in Philly is super small compared to the population and the crime rate. Because of PCness they don’t wnat to admit their problem. This might have to do with their mayor dropping bombs from helicopters in the past (can’t remember the actual year) There is also the “snitches” thing where anyone cooperating with the cops ends up murdered or maimed.
Right you are, LaShawn, and remember, when you really need help now, a cop is only minutes away. Also, it’s not their job to protect you, that’s your job. It’s their job to catch the guy that killed you or beat you up, if they can find a witness and the time. Q. Why do you carry a gun? A. Because a cop’s too heavy.

I am afraid that fascism is the only answer. The trick is to make sure that the storm troopers are working for us rather than for Hillary and Obama (and I’m afraid Hillary and Obama have a big headstart on us).

For the record, open carry is also legal in Free Pennsylvania (i.e., outside of the City Of Brotherly Shove), but not in Philly. Expect to be hassled by the Philly police even when carrying legally.
These children are just misunderstood. Taxes must be raised to improve their lives so they won’t be so angry.

The idea of the peaceful flash mob is one that I think has a lot of potential for us.
Every tool in the box, plus new ones, needs to be used in resisting the tyranny we are facing.

Where is Mayor Frank Rizzo now that we need him? He wouldn’t have stood for this…..heck, since Rizzo is dead, why not bring back that other Mayor (Goode?) who bombed out those crazy child-abusing cultists a few years back.
Used to be called ‘Wilding’ and of course there is no racial component to the antics of these poor misunderstood utes.
All of this will only get worse since no one wants to do anything about it. Eventually, law abiding citizens will get fed up with it. But only those with the means will be able to do something about it. Concealed carry and protect the 2nd Amendment.
Back in the day — we are talking 1950s here — I remember my mother getting dressed up, including hat, when we went shopping “downtown” in our mid-sized Southern city. Then came the civil rights revolution, which was a badly needed correction to centuries of injustice.
Unfortunately, it did not work out very harmoniously for the total community although justice absolutely demanded that the oppression of black people — including forced segregation — end.
The downtown streets were suddenly full of black adults and teenagers, many of the badly behaved and aggressive in demonstrating that a new day had arrived. White ladies felt intimidated (they were jostled on the sidewalks) and ceased to go downtown at all. Soon there was very little downtown except the jail, the courthouse, and black teenagers and street people.
The era of stay-at-home with time-to-shop ladies was coming to an end anyway and the malls conveniently arrived. In the past few years, however, we have had several incidents of “flash mobs” (even before the texting technology) invading the malls. And I am speaking of very upscale malls with store like Saks and Bloomingdales. I would by no means say that white folks have abandoned the malls but smart people think about what day it is and what time it is and whether this is a good time to go to the mall. People want to stay out of the way of trouble.
No police force these days is going to pull out their clubs and crack the skulls of these little barbarians. Urban spaces are going to be “diverse” spaces…and dangerous and unpleasant spaces much of the time.
Personally, there is no action the police could take against the hooligans that would be violent enough to suit me. I think it is pretty obvious that seducing them into civilization with night basketball and an array of welfare benefits and social services is not going to get it done. So I’d like to see their heads cracked open. But it ain’t going to happen. Our world is just going to become more and more of an urban jungle.
70% of black kids are being born without fathers in the home. Is that a racist observation? It is what it is. It sickens me. The American black “community” is hip-deep in social pathology, failing in school and essentially unemployable. Lucky for them they have such strong champions in Washington.
It’s happening at a mall near here too. The strategy is, one or two thugs either bump into you, or, molest your wife or girlfriend. Words are exchanged. The thugs take off running with you following. You round a corner and about 12 or 14 of them are waiting for you. You hastily retreat if you can before being surrounded for a beat down.

Some of the old style flash mobs done by arts groups with dancers and/or singers were pretty neat and fun. It’s a shame the term “flash mob” might now be perceived as a bad thing no matter who is participating or what they are doing.

Enough activities to keep young people busy after schoolSome of these flash mobs happened during school hours. The most recent one occurred at 10pm in the evening. This has nothing to do with activities, it has to do with bad parenting.
My wife was in a cab 3 blocks north to the last one. The cabbie started yelling at a bunch of the kids, apparently unaware that in a previous flash mob, they pulled a taxi driver out and beat him.
Mayor Nutter recently stated that the danger was “overhyped.” I’d like him to say that to the faces of the people who’ve been assaulted by these mobs.
Would that be future SEIU members-in-training?

Though it’s not a race thing, it’s a culture thing. Too many have let this urban street culture be defined as the supreme cool, whereas learning how to read and write is something that “white people do.”

Like Timbudd said, they WERE fun, back in the day – like the group that met at the T-Rex in the NY Toys R Us and spent a few minutes bemusing/amusing the crowd by dropping to the floor, moaning and cowering in fear when it roared. Then they quickly dispersed and everybody had a funny story to tell, including the bystanders. Other have met to do improvised song and dance routines.
This lot are just criminal thugs. I do really like the idea of the tea partiers getting together as flash mobs for spontaneous, fun events – that could turn into some good PR for us if we did it right.

Whomever the “child advocate” was who asked “if there are enough activities to keep young people busy after school” didn’t get a good look at the individual who appears to be leading this mob front-and-center. Many words come to mind. “Child” isn’t one of them.
Decades ago, a young person complained to Leo Buscaglia about how boring his/her life was and how there was “nothing to do”. Buscaglia’s reaction was something like “Nothing to do? Was the world perfect when you woke up today? Nothing to do! You could sweep someone’s porch, bring food to someone who’s hungry, spend time with someone who’s lonely. Nothing to do!” These criminals aren’t looking to be busy. They’re looking for trouble. And these so-called “child advocates” are looking for taxpayer-funded entertainment.

The U.S. Army draft used to take a lot of these losers off the street and put them into uniform. I was surprised at how many of the “losers” I knew in high school had been “turned around” in the Army.

Ignatius Reilly: A mall where I live has been closed down for years now because of the gang-bangers who would roam about and even engage in blatant “crash-and-dash” (break the glass in jewelry stores and grab the loot) robberies in broad daylight. The newer mall (to the east of the closed one) is going through the same cycle, but not yet as bad. A newer “avenue’ even further east is currently a safe haven, but I imagine it will face the same problem in a few years.

Okay. I am going to name the elephant in the room. White kid flash mobs equals almost frat style pranks, while these almost exclusively black flash mobs are violent and destructive. The question then becomes what is it about black culture that leads to such senseless violence and what can be done about it? GASP! Flash mob? I had no idea what they were called! Last spring sometime, my daughters and I went to a nice mall in Cincinnati and a group of these kids just sort of erupted. They were chanting and singing and walking in a large group. I could see security people running around but no one stopped them. My girls were a few doors down from where I was in the mall and I was petrified until I found them.
Also, currently in Indianapolis at a very nice mall, GIRLS are traveling in groups and asking women to use their cell phones (in the parking lots) and then stealing the women’s purses, phones, and injuring the women. We go to that mall fairly frequently, but no more.
After years of wanting to be the equal of whites in the social arena, blacks rejected white culture after the political gains of the ’60s. They invented their own pseudo-culture.
The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, et. al. have been replaced by LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, etc.
And to really jump into the boiling water, I must venture that breeding has a lot to do with it.

It’s a progressive strategy. Our country is supporting fourth and fifth generation welfare recipients. They are now convinced that this is “normal” and they have to keep voting for liberal democrats to keep their “free” money coming in.

I think the incidence of “flash mobs” is a worrying trend that is being made light of by both Dem Socialists and their media conspirators. Even the police are downplaying it. I’ve heard of the same thing going on in Denver.
There are lot of inner city, racist thugs like Latinos and Blacks who inhabit these cities, compromise public safety and quality of life and then chase out whites. That’s their whole goal. The whole thing backfires because the city loses tax revenue which can’t give freebies to these punks.
I’m sorry, but I would never live in a big city. Ever. I lived in Madrid in the late ’90′s and when school let out and at night all I saw were unattended youths, drunken madness, the homeless, and the drug addicts slumped over in allies. It was pretty disturbing to see this stuff as someone who grew up in a medium-sized town in upstate New York.
Such things are common place to these feral thugs who’ve never been socialized to be responsible citizens, have good manners, and treat people the way they would want to be treated. There are a lot of disrespectful minority youth that have been taught that they don’t have to work and if they do they can go to college for FREE and get entitlements due them.
I would love to see any of these kids exist in a rural setting, be a ranch hand, be a farm hand. I’d pay good money to see these cretins clean out a stable, feed cattle, or go haying. You’ll never see it because these kids have been taught to put a hand out and work the system like their single, multiple baby daddy mothers.

This insanity will continue until the individuals in those groups experience some consequences equal to or greater than those caused by their actions. I would suggest providing them a “significant emotional event” to alter their behavior. Skillful application of variations along the spectrum from less than lethal means to termination can create a mental recognition of the inappropriateness of their actions.

I will repeat what I said earlier today: the violence will be triggered by the government. It sure looks like that is the only way they will avoid having to explain themselves. Everything is an immediate emergency with this government and now they are petrified of us.
We need to have a ten-million-man march soon to force the issue. Will the military hold and honor their oaths?

I’m pretty sure this is not limited to Philly. I live in Mahnattan and was awakened last Sat. night at 4:30 AM by at least one hundred or more folks that looked a lot like the picture you show here (i.e. there was not a single white face). They were shouting at top of lungs, brandishing sticks, fighting with each other and stopping cars (this on quiet 7th street in East Village). Very strange. I have lived here 15 years and never seen anything like it.
One group of thugs was arguing loudly over a purported gu or shooting (his could all have been staged for effect)..
Police were undoubtedly called as it was quite a ruckus. One cop car drove slowly down the street and (probably out of fear or PCism or both) did absolutly nothing. I mean bupkus. The roaches eventually went back in their holes.
I don’t think the barrel of a 1911 is going to scare a criminal more or less than the barrel of a glock 9mm or sig .357. Besides, firearms are not for threatening, they are for shooting
(only in self defense when not at a range, of course).

Myself, my son, two daughters, son-inlaw and two granddaughters found ourselves thrust right next to this sort of mob when we arrived at our reserved motel in Virginia Beach. We soon departed for new accomodations with no incident but the situation was dangerous. My one daughter, who had previously chided me for always carrying a gun, later said she had changed her mind and was glad at the time that she knew I was armed.
Well, when the 1911 is twice the size of the Glock 9mm or the Sig, it might. also, if the shooting does happen, a greater deal of ‘obvious (visible) damage’ might be a better deterrent for the mob.
But I thought the all so knowing State was the parent these days. Why isnt the One condeming these actions.

I bet if they got free health care from those who work they would stop being mean.
This idea is clearly being allowed to go unchallenged by any judicial measures.
1) Expect it to increase rapidly and dramtically.
2) Expect it to cause government to think about martial law (if not act on it locally)
3) Expect laws to be passed against it which allow for liberal use of deadly force to subdue such crowds when they get “out of hand”
4) Expect these laws to find their way into being used on “out of hand” protests by conservative groups.
