How the Left fakes the hate: A primer
I’m still on semi-vacation, but the Left never takes a break from falsely accusing the Right of fomenting hatred and violence through political speech. The MSM never takes a break from whitewashing leftist intolerance, death threats, and extremism — and engaging in selective reporting (or rather, non-reporting) of the long history of leftists’ manufacturing of hatred for political gain. My syndicated column fills in the missing context. In related developments, Glenn Reynolds takes a look at a new dubious report of rock-throwing. Erick Erickson shreds Josh Marshall’s specious incitement accusations. Patterico reports on the latest Twitter death threats against the Palin family. (Here’s a reminder about the one a Toronto Star columnist posted about me, which was laughed off by her editor and ignored by her colleagues). Here’s Mary Katharine Ham’s reminder that 7 of the 10 violent incidents during the summer town hall protests were brought to you by Obama-bots and union thugs. And in case you need a quick refresher on the routine liberal ugliness that will never be decried by the civility police, see here here here here here here here here here here here here here here here here here here here. How the Left fakes the hate: A primer

If you can’t stand the heat, manufacture a hate crime epidemic.
After years of covering racial hoaxes on college campuses and victim sob stories in the public arena, I’ve encountered countless opportunists who live by that demented mindset. At best, the fakers are desperately seeking 15 minutes of infamy. At worst, their aim is the criminalization of political dissent.
Upon decimating the deliberative process to hand President Obama a health care “reform” victory, unpopular Beltway Democrats and their media water-carriers now claim there’s a Tea Party epidemic of racism, harassment, and violence against them. On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a tepid, obligatory statement against smearing all conservatives as national security threats. But her lieutenants had already emptied their tar buckets. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman Chris Van Hollen blamed Republican leaders of “stoking the flames.” Democrat House Whip James Clyburn accused the GOP of “aiding and abetting” what he called “terrorism.”
Yet, the claims that Tea Party activists shouted “nigger” at black House Democrats remain uncorroborated. The coffin reportedly left outside Missouri Democrat Rep. Russ Carnahan’s home was used in a prayer vigil by pro-life activists in St. Louis protesting the phony Demcare abortion funding ban in President Obama’s deal-cutting executive order. Videotape of a supposed intentional spitting incident targeting Missouri Democrat Rep. Emanuel Cleaver at the Capitol shows no such thing. Cleaver himself backed off the claim a few days later. He described his heckler to the Washington Post in more passive terms as “the man who allowed his saliva to hit my face.” Slovenliness = terrorism!
The FBI is now investigating the most serious allegation – that Tea Party activists in Virginia are somehow responsible for a cut gas line at the home of Democrat Rep. Tom Perriello’s brother. But instead of waiting for the outcome of that probe, liberal pundits have enshrined the claim as conclusive evidence of the Tea Party reign of terror.
Need more reasons to treat the latest Democrat hysteria with a grain of salt the size of their gargantuan health care bill? Remember:

*In November 2009, Kentucky Census worker Bill Sparkman was found dead in a secluded rural cemetery with the word “Fed” scrawled on his chest with a rope around his neck. The Atlantic Monthly, the Huffington Post, and liberal media hosts stampeded over themselves to blame Fox News, conservative blogs, Republicans, and right-wing radio. Federal, state, and local authorities discovered that Sparkman had killed himself and deliberately concocted a hate crime hoax as part of an insurance scam to benefit his surviving son.
*In mid-October 2008, news outlets from Scranton, Pa., to ABC News, to the Associated Press and MSNBC reported that someone at a Sarah Palin rally shouted “Kill him” when Barack Obama’s name was mentioned. In fact, the Secret Service (which was at the event in full force) couldn’t find a single person to corroborate the story – other than the local reporter for the Scranton Times-Tribune who made an international incident out of the claim. Agent Bill Slavoski “said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment,” the paper reported in a red-faced follow-up. Maybe the shouter is hiding with Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman’s real killer.
*In late October 2008, a gaggle of liberal blogs spread the rumor that a Republican supporter of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s had shouted that Barack Obama was “a nigger” during a campaign rally in Iowa. Video and first-hand accounts showed that the protester did not shout “he’s a nigger,” but “he’s a redistributor.” A lefty activist at the “progressive” Daily Kos blog confirmed the truth – but to this day, the crisis-manufacturing smear lies uncorrected and unretracted across the Internet.
*In September 2009, supporters of Colorado Democrat Rep. John Salazar falsely accused a town hall protester of hurling a death threat at the congressman. Liberal blogs again disseminated the angry Tea Party mob narrative. A week later, the local press quietly reported that Grand Junction police had investigated the incident – and determined the claim was “unfounded.” A police spokeswoman revealed that “[p]eople who witnessed the interaction between the man who made the complaint and the suspect confirmed they never heard any direct threats made regarding Congressman Salazar; the witnesses included a Grand Junction cop “in close proximity when the interaction took place.”

*In late August 2009, as lawmakers faced citizen revolts at health care town halls nationwide, the Colorado Democratic Party decried a vandalism attack at its Denver headquarters. A hammer-wielding thug smashed 11 windows and caused $11,000 in property damage. The perpetrator, Maurice Schwenkler, turned out to be a far Left nutball/transgender activist/single-payer anarchist who had worked for a SEIU-tied 527 group and canvassed for a Democrat candidate. Nevertheless, State Democrat Party chair Pat Waak continued to blame “people opposed to health care” for the attack.
Then, as now, being a Democrat Party official means never having to say you’re sorry for smearing conservative dissent.

God bless you swede.
Re: homeschooling.
Yes — agreed with all that “currently” it’s a state issue.
But for how long? Teh Won wants to impose “national standards” and get the camel’s nose in the tent. He sold out the Opporunity scholarship program in DC to appease the teacher’s unions. The whole push to unionize the food service workers in the schools, etc.
I have NO faith that they won’t find a way to take control. Look how he uses executive orders, federal agencies to do end runs around Congress and the Constitution.
Remember, for communists …. they want the children. Indoctrination, not education. They will NOT stop, and homeschooling is a direct threat to their agenda.
I am not resting on my laurels nor feeling that I am “safe”.
FYI, we had a huge throwdown with the school at about the same time my dad had another massive heart attack. I knew I was going to have to go back and forth to Canada to help my brother with our ageing and ailing parents. My 12 yo asked if she could be homeschooled so she could go back and forth with me.
She had only been enrolled in the local school for <1mth at this point.
I informed the school I was moving to Canada and was withdrawing her. I explained I would be "back and forth" as I had to care for elderly and ill parents. They gave me a packet with her info and transcript.
When I arrived at my local school board in Ontario, I presented the "packet" the VA school had given me. They weren't interested because it was <1mth. They kindly listened to my situation, sat me down and told me my options.
My daughter does 7th grade via correspondence paid for by the Govt of Ontario. She loves it. It is just the "backbone" to our enriched curriculum we do at home. The school board gave me a letter recognizing that I was homeschooling and sent me the entire 7th grade year in a box.
I had been in Ontario, taking my parents back and forth to specialty appts in Toronto, about a 3 hr (one way) drive from where they live.
The week before American thanksgiving, the 12 year old and I came home to VA.
After a 10 hr drive and 3 hr wait to cross the border I was exhausted.
I awoke to find not ONE, but TWO police cruisers parked in front of my house.
They were there to "verify" whether or not I had "really" moved and whether or not my 12 yo was "okay".
The school had reported me, because after a month, they had, allegedly, received any "request for records" from her new school.
I was outraged and gave the two patrolmen a piece of my mind.
No phone calls. No letters. There was an easy answer — the Canadian school didn't want or need them — and I had proof that she was enrolled in school from the local school board.
Instead, they send, not ONE but TWO patrol cars to my house to harass me the day before Thanksgiving. They also made it clear that because I still own my home in VA they expect her to be in a VA school. I am beyond furious… and, yes, we will fight them.
"THIS" is what we have to look forward to. They want our kids, they want to control them, and they will do anything to achieve their need to "indoctrinate" rather than "educate".
It's beyond frightening.
Sorry, typo
Because, allegedly, they had NOT received any request for records and they were “concerned”.
Their concern mostly rests with the fact that the gifted & talented program has been decimated as we parents pull our kids out and homeschool.
Rightwingmom, I know about HSLDA.
My husband’s parish has a very vigorous homeschooling program — 450 families and growing.
In our little neighborhood of 100 homes, we have 4 homeschooling families currently. It looks like we will have 12 next Sept in a homeschooling co-op, and we intend to keep advancing the #’s.
The local school board is NOT happy, since not only are they losing their most motivated kids, but they are losing military kids and the FEDERAL IMPACT FEES $$$$$ they bring with them.
The interest is not what’s best for our kids, it’s in power and control.
@Swede:
God Bless you. We hope to be able to do the same for our kids.
All of our kids have stated, emphatically, that THEIR kids will be homeschooled.
When the Studmuffin and I had our family, we always expected that WE would be responsible for their shelter, clothing, food, et al, religious instruction and most importantly, education.
It’s not something we view as “someone else’s” responsibility. It’s ours. It would be nice if the public schools would at least meet conservatives half way, but I’m not holding my breath.
One of the motivations for us homeshcooling (we’re going back over twenty-five years now) was that the gifted & talented program had been eliminated, and we had an identifiably gifted child who the local school department would have placed in kindergarten with children who were just learning to write their names and count to ten (while he was already doing long division).
Don’t let them get away with this – though reading your posts, it doesn’t sound like you intend to.
As one court stated in settling a case for homeschooling, children are not creatures of the state [i.e. the government].
Please keep us posted as you can, and know that you and yours will be in our prayers.
May I add to the chorus of “God bless you”?
That was the hardest decision for us because it meant that we would be barely scraping by on my husband’s income – and extended family didn’t have the financial resources to help much beyond the occasional purchase of books or sending supplemental materials.
Your daughter-in-law is fortunate to have you in her corner.
We should never wish our lives away, but I cannot wait for November.
@Wayfaring:
I hear you. Relying on 1 income has been tough, but we put the kids and our family first.
Way back, my husband’s orders from Whidbey Island NAS kept getting delayed, and I homeschooled rather than enroll the kids for what was supposed to be 2 wks before beginning a cross-country journey.
We asked the kids what they wanted to do as we went X-country (they were in middle school) — they stated, follow the Lewis & Clark trail.
Studmuffin was able to take almost 50 days leave, and we did that. We did the whole thing. We paddled canoes. We made pemmican. We had SAT prep ala “Jeopardy”. The kids loved it.
However, back then, we always viewed homeschooling as a “temporary” solution because of our crazy lifestyle and his job. “Homeschooling” was for hippies and counterculture types. So the MSM told us.
How wrong we were. Many years later, our older three told us how they wished we had kept homeschooling, that it was the best experience in their lives.
Other young families need to know there are options.
The littlest one has never been happier since homeschooling. The local middle school reminds me of child prison– windowless classrooms, rigid management of their day, even lining up with their prison trays in the cafeteria.
And then they wonder why the creativity and entrepenurial quotient in the country has gone down.
Sigh.
First off, I have to tell you that I love your nickname for your husband.
LOL Yes, many even referred to it as un-schooling.
And too many people were totally unaware that it was legal; that was always the first question we got when we told people we were homeschooling: ‘Oh, is that legal?’
*sigh*
Indeed.
While I still worry about what I missed in schooling my kids – and what they might have missed – they both tell me that they wouldn’t have had it any other way. They’re productive, well rounded young adults who know how to think for themselves, and aren’t afraid to question authority [when necessary].
I just wish that they lived in a time when it wasn’t as necessary as it is now.
@11B #107
Finally got the time to watch the Bill Lind video you linked.
Thanks. It wasn’t “new” info, but we need to keep refreshing.
It’s important to know that the Collectivists want us to think we are isolated and alone.
We are NOT.
@Wayfaring:
Here’s a short list of some of the things they “missed” ~~
-getting beat up in the washrooms
-drugs
-learning how to put condoms on banana
-drugs
-white “privilege” and the need to feel reflexive guilt b/c of the color of your skin
-drugs
-teachers who lie and award grades based on which parents write checks to the football team and/or complain the most, not based on merit.
Did I say drugs?
You did good.

When I first posted, #50, I said that The left wants us not to paint the Muslims with one brush, but paint the tea party movement as trouble makers etc.
Later, I read something similar on American Thinker. I didn’t know this. American Thinker of course writes it much better and more acomplished. I just didn’t know I was stealing someone elses idea. (I guess great minds think alike)
I notice that Michelle does more accurate and better reporting on pertinant issues when on Vacation than the MSM does at full strength.
She probably has one hand tied behind her back like Rush as well.
TAKE THIS POLL -

Good thoughts – and here’s an update for you – Congressional approval has gone down from 16% to 10%!

There needs to be a Godwin’s Law for the “racist!” accusation.
I’ll humbly suggest the Lockstein Law.
Apparrently, being a Democrat Party Official also now means getting

Home loans work the same way.
There is a well recognized fable of the boy who cried wolf. At first, people paid attention – but in the end, even though the wolf was actually at the door, nobody paid attention. The Dems pull out the racist, sexists, etc every time they are in real trouble – it only works when people like Michael Steele do something stupid without getting the facts. As far as I am concerned, the black Congressmen deliberately tried to provoke an incident, and when they failed they did the old “cry wolf” stunt.
Since when does the president have the power to regulate mortgage payments? This guy is another Chavez. It seems a day doesn’t go by when there is another huge violation of the law and Constitution.
Liberal progressive socialists project their own inherent racism.
Liberals hate the human race.
In anticipation of an upcoming Tea Party rally, USA Today published an article headline entitled, “Te Party Rally to Draw Angry Crowds and Scrutiny”
The damn event hasn’t even occured yet, and they are already dictating false conclusions, and utilizing scare tactics and hatemongering
I still not convinced there AREN’T liberal “plants” trying to stage disruptions. SEIU members would be more than happy to “do their job” for the progressive agenda!
Looks like Sen. Baucus “spilled the beans” on being honest about the true purpose of the healthcare bill. Their whole philosophy is based on the idea of “equal income” on everyone, regardless of potential or experience. Of course, they are exempted from this, being one of the “elites”.
Why is the media can catch a whispered obscenity passed between the President and Vice President, but somehow can’t come up with audio of repeated shouted obcenities hurled by Tea Partiers at black congresspersons?
There was an editorial in our local paper today using the shouted racial slurs as an example of the hatred that personifies the Tea Party.
The game is fixed y’all. Who doesnt get that yet? Liberal politicians are master manipulators of their brain dead constituents. The main stream news outlets are corrupt, and will report almost nothing favorable about the right; and everything they deem favorable about the left. They will exploit and demagogue all things for the left. Moral bankruptcy is now the main attribute of the left. So what is a conservative to do?
Take off the gd gloves already and realize this is trench warfare. Beat them at their own game. Demagogue like they do. Blow things out of proportion for political advantage like they do. Get as nasty as they do. Call them out on their hypocrisy every chance we get. Playing it nice hasn’t exactly been working for us…just look around for crying out loud.
One of the things we need to do, and get better at is to hold them accountable, just like Alinsky advocated.
“They” are in power now; it’s their legislation and their Agenda, and we need to hold their feet to the fire.
Claire Bear McCaskill is now stating that Obamacare may have been “oversold” –yeah, no kidding, eh? — but that’s irrelevant. Many other conservative bloggers have stated the same — accept NO excuses, and hold them 100% accountable for ALL of their promises.
I have no problem “getting in the faces” of O-bots regarding his Agenda, etc and asking them to explain themselves. After all, Teh Won himself stated we need to do so.
Ridicule I think is a much better weapon than escalation of the conflict. Teh Won has a very thin skin, and ridicule drives them batty.
I guess they aren’t liking the late night show comics so much anymore.
BTW, have the oceans stopped rising and is the planet healed yet? It’s been a year already.
In no way do I advocate violence against politicians. Hate, well yes, sure, that’s what they deserve. But I have a question: Would it be legal to tar & feather them, and ride them out of town on a rail, as long as we describe it as “adding green, eco-friendly insulation material” and “providing free, human-powered transportation from the city center to the suburbs”?
Such treatment was very traumatic to the humam body and many died. Pouring hot tar all over the body results in 2nd & 3rd burns. Such burns can cause shock and cardiac arrest as well as massive infection if the person survives the inital violence I’d rather be shot; death is quicker.
The Democrats can’t stand to have their healthcare program criticized. Yesterday they announced an investigation into the claims of AT&T, Caterpillar, Deere & Co, and Verizon as to what Obamacare will cost those companies.
Remember they don’t only hate Republicans and the TEA Party, they hate private enterprise as well.
On March 27th, 2010 at 7:59 pm, graysonret said:
So, it *is* legal then, at least for politicians? Great! Do you know when the open season starts? Or are they just considered vermin and so can be taken at any time?
I still do not advocate violence against politicians. But I ask, what is the appropriate punishment for those who try to enslave us, who take our earnings “legally” because of bills they pass against our will and use them to enrich themselves and their followers, who flout the Constitution and who purposefully pervert and subvert the spirit if not the letter of the law, who do everything in their power to bend the meaning of words, who are not at all straightforward about their intentions, who respect nothing and no one except their own ambitions and raw, naked power? Is tarring and feathering too good for them? Or will we just have to settle for voting them out of office, and can we ever repair the damage they have done to our Country?
Well, I must say that the feathers seem a little gratuitous to me. We want to make sure that the tar is fully up to temperature though and is liberally applied.

Only in America can extortion, accessory to murder, perjury, etc., be considered resume enhancements for public office.
Concerning posts #156,#157,#159, #162 all concerning “tar and feathering”.
Please ladies and gentlemen, realize that we are living in the enlightened 21st century. The term “tar & feathering” is a colloquialism meant to describe a desire for retribution for transgressions of great import. We now have cold applied binding media and eco friendly substitutions for feathers such as cotton, bamboo, and recycled polyester. So, with modern technology, tar and feathering can be carried out without subjecting the beneficiary to the danger of death or even long lasting disfigurement. Ridicule can be applied in a manner not inconsistent with a kinder, gentler society. Have at it!
Feathers would be “out” anyway, once PETA protests. Why go through all the fuss and bother with “hot tar”; just water-board them.
This thread is getting disturbing. I am reading more and more commenters advocating being impolite. We are inviting a serious admonishment from the King of Comity Central: John McCain.
Resistance yes, but let’s not be impolite.
Oops! How did that slip in here?
And the downside?
@YTZGal #127
You’re correct. That video is probably 15 years old, but it was new to me in the sense that I have never seen anyone put it all together like that. I’ve heard guys on the radio refer to the Frankfurt School and everyone throws out the term Political Correctness, but I’ve never seen anyone coherently bring it all together.
Lind was even referenced in an article at the SPLC as being the the one person “who has done the most to define the enemies who make up the so-called ‘cultural Marxists.’”
Being cited by them has to be a positive.

In regards to post #164.
It’s amazing how many people are NOT aware of these bozos saying what they say.
Many of the people I ask quotes like these don’t have a clue as to who stated them. Mind you a lot are younger but that is of little consolation.
The NEW media tells us who they are but the primate media gets much more coverage.
Will the population wake up in time to slow or stop this Obamanation that is being foisted on us?
I for one hope so.

These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice.”

So, this quip is okay, but Sarah’s “reload” isn’t?
I’m so, so, SO sick of it.
I haven’t watched CNN in years, let alone MSNBC. The last time I watched MSNBC, Mr. Leg Tingles-McSpittles was interviewing Zell Miller in 2004.
At least with Pravda, you know the mission.
I know this isn’t the right place but anyways, I seen news reports on Obama’s visit to the troops and I’m thinking its all a lie, if I can get confirmation on this it would be helpful. I notices some US ARMY troops in MARINE ACU camo, the rip tide green that is, I notice most if not all the “troops” had no rank insignia, in some cases the American Flag was no where to be seen, no name tags on the majority, and there was a hodgepodge of divisional patches some of whom are NOT in Afghanistan at present, zero unit and service tabs for the most. What few were around were sercive units no combat tabs at all. Can I get confirmation or speculation, after the “Garden” incident I would not be surprised if all of this was a sham, a very poorly planned one at that, or have the ROE’s and Dress code gotten so lax over there?
