All of Obama’s Final Four Picks Eliminated — Update: Naturally That Won’t Keep Him From Appearing During the Final Four Telecast

By Doug Powers  •  March 28, 2010 11:40 AM

–Obama campaigned for Creigh Deeds: He lost.
–Obama campaigned for Jon Corzine: Another loss.
–Obama campaigned to get the Olympics in Chicago: Out in the first round of voting.
–Obama campaigned for Martha Coakley: Epic fail.

Michelle calls it the “Reverse Midas Touch,” (the First Lady has it too), and it’s something that is alive and well as evidenced by the fact that all of Obama’s Final Four picks are out of the tournament:

President Barack Obama went 0 for 2 in the NCAA tournament Saturday when Kentucky and Kansas State lost in the regional finals, knocking out his two remaining picks for the Final Four.

In his ESPN.com bracket, Obama predicted that Kansas, Villanova, Kentucky and Kansas State would reach the Final Four. Kansas and Villanova were upset in the second round, then Kentucky and Kansas State went down Saturday.

Believe it or not, this is the second time Kentucky has been bitten by Hope. In late January, Kentucky’s basketball team, #1 in the nation with a 19-0 record at the time, got a phone call from President Obama before the game. What happened? You guessed it, Kentucky lost to South Carolina.

Please, Mr. President, go campaign for Harry Reid again… and again… and again… And while you’re at it, please pick Tennessee to beat Michigan State today.

Update: In comments, jsmiddleton hints at something Obama might want to consider for next year’s tournament, and that’s to simply give his picks recess appointments into the Final Four and avoid the regular process.

Update II: Yessss!

Update III: If you thought for one second that the Final Four telecast next Saturday would be Obama-free, CBS has a reminder for you:

This Thursday, CBS “Early Show” co-anchor Harry Smith will go one-on-one with Pres. Barack Obama in a court-side interview. Then, Smith and his CBS Sports colleague NCAA basketball analyst Clark Kellogg will shoot hoops with Obama on the White House basketball court.

Smith’s interview and clips from the game will air on The Early Show Friday. Kellogg’s interview with the President, and the game, will air Saturday afternoon and evening during CBS’s coverage of the Final Four.

To Obama, it isn’t about winning and losing battles. It’s about the end result. If he, with help from a willing congress, can change our democratic republic to a socialist state, he will have won. That’s the only goal of his presidency, even if he loses in 2012.

I’d LOVE to see him do something the opposite of what he did here, and say something like “the Detroit Lions have no chance to win a Super Bowl” so that we can all sit back and watch a miracle happen for the Lions.

Obama handles politics like he handles basketball — he’s a trash-talking showboater:

Through hoops he acquired some of the swagger that he later carried into politics. Harvard Law School professor Charles Ogletree Jr. recalls first meeting Obama on the court at Harvard’s Hemenway Gym. He was a fierce trash talker, Ogletree says, with an awkward-looking left-handed jump shot. …Even on the campaign trail, Obama tries to squeeze in some hoops. His personal aide, Reggie Love, played for Duke’s 2001 national championship team. “There is nothing worse than losing to Barack Obama,” Love, 25, told the Chicago Tribune. “You never hear the end of it.” Obama, 46, has rarely suffered from a lack of confidence — whether on the court or in the pursuit of public office.

Seems awfully convenient to me. Keep an eye on some nutballs, some politically problematic issue come about, jam it down the throats of Johnny Public, then let loose ATF. Round up some people serious about their patriotism and claim they are too patriotic, and arrest them. And the drive by media will shortly claim they were members of some local Tea Party.

Interesting to see the amount of investigative detail in some of the articles. Such a contrast to the lack of detail in any domestic terrorism cases over the past few years.
