The death of an Arizona rancher; Updated: Cattle growers’ association offers reward; new details of the murder; suspect foot tracks into Mexico

Rob Krentz was a Cochise County, AZ cattle farmer who had battled the bloody consequences of illegal immigration for years. Over the weekend, his dead body was found on his ranch. The longtime rancher had been gunned down. Police are investigating the homicide.
The Arizona Star reports:
A longtime rancher was killed on his Douglas-area property over the weekend, and neighbors worried that his homicide was connected to increasing border-related crime in the area.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office offered little information into the late-Saturday shooting death of 58-year-old Robert Krentz, whose family began the Krentz Ranch more than 100 years ago.
Krentz’s body was found on his land, which is about 35 miles northeast of Douglas, just before midnight Saturday, said Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office, aided by the U.S. Border Patrol, had no suspects Sunday and continued to follow leads, Capas said. She declined to comment on reports from neighbors and border activists that Krentz’s death was related to smuggling in the area.
Area residents said Krentz had no enemies, and they could think of no motive for his death other than the possibility it was related to what they called the growing level of crime in the area related to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers.
Tom Tancredo, a former U.S. representative from Colorado, was visiting ranchers near Douglas to discuss border issues when he heard of Krentz’s death.
Tancredo said he and Krentz were friends and that he was “a mild-mannered guy” who was known for providing illegal immigrants with food and water.

The event has rocked the towns of Douglas and Portal, and the ranches in between, both of which have been under siege by cross-border smugglers for years.
As the Weekly has reported, the situation in the so-called Chiricahua Corridor has deteriorated lately, leaving residents fearful that an episode of this kind was inevitable. The grief is great for the Krentz family and their many friends throughout Southeast Arizona; Krentzes have been ranching in Cochise County for more than a century.
The Weekly has received word that a representative for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has placed calls to Cochise County, trying to set up a community meeting, either Monday or Tuesday at 11 a.m., possibly at the Apache School. The Giffords’ rep making the arrangements said it is possible she will ask the president to place military units in the besieged area
A source tells the Weekly the practical impact of Giffords’ actions might be small, but at least she is paying attention. The source said, “Kolbe laughed at us when we complained, and McCain worries about getting his patent leather shoes dirty when he’s down here.”

I want to thank you for posting the story about rancher Bob Krentz. You are the only credible source outside the local news that has mentioned it. As a ranching wife, my heart goes out to Bob’s family and especially his wife Susan. No one outside the ranching community knows how hard a life this is ( in terms of physical work never being done). To those of us who love it, the price is well worth the benefits. But not for Susan Krentz. I cannot imagine what she must feel, knowing they have been robbed before, vandalized and terrorized.
While Obama and his minions wax poetic about health care ( and the so called threats of not having it) there is a hardworking woman who has been pulling her own weight for decades that now faces her golden years without her beloved husband and without any security for the future of her children or herself on the ranch they love.
Ranching families work hard as teams to get everything done to care for their animals. They are usually short on help considering all that needs to be done. I hope that Susan’s loss of her husband, her partner in the business and the head of a multi generational legacy is not lost in the reporting. Her life is forever changed and helping her find a sense of peace and sanity is what we all need to think about.

Update: New details from the Arizona Republic about the crime…
A prominent southeast Arizona rancher sped away in his all-terrain vehicle after being shot, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said Monday in releasing more details into Saturday’s slaying near the Mexico border.
The body of Robert Krentz, 58, was located before midnight Saturday on his 35,000 acre ranch about 35 miles northeast of Douglas after his brother reported that he had lost radio contact with Krentz earlier in the day.
Krentz apparently came upon one person when he was shot and his dog was wounded, detectives said.
While Krentz was still in his vehicle, mortally wounded, he managed to drive the ATV away from the scene at a high rate of speed before becoming unconscious, investigators said.
Foot tracks were identified and followed approximately 20 miles south to the Mexico border by sheriff’s deputies, U.S. Border Patrol trackers and Department of Corrections dog chase teams, authorities said.
So far, there have been no suspects identified and no arrests.

Interesting item… In our local PRO-ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT RAG, this warranted a 2 paragraph entry on page 1 of the “B” section this AM… What may happen now is that the ranchers in southern Arizona will anticipate hostility, and go out armed to the teeth, to protect their land… Who can blame them??? The FEDS have ignored the problem in favor of the ILLEGALS forever… As a side, they also have ignored the DRUG SMUGGLERS… Now the GENIE is out of the bottle, and the FEDS will find it near impossible to get it back in… Good luck to the KRENZ family… Also, good luck to all the ranchers in southern AZ who want to protect their property…
In the years to come, Mr. Krentz may be remembered as the Crispus Attucks of the immigration issue. Will his unnecessary death spur us to FINALLY close the border? Stay tuned.
The only way Washington will make even half-hearted movements on this will be if the Tea Party and Sarah Palin use the media to call attention to it, by staging a rally or protest in Arizona.
Otherwise, as the Democrats prepare to take up immigration – aka, increase the roll of new Democrat voters – the media will continue abet the Left by ignoring the detrimental state of America’s southern border.

As a native of Tucson, AZ, I am all too familiar with the illegal immigration issues that haunt the area.
Sadly, Mr. Krentz’ pity may have led to his death – like wild animals who have become accustomed to people, illegals only become more brazen and demanding as they come to expect assistance when they cross the border; those who defy them become the victims of their hostility, vitriol and spite.
Illegals and smugglers burglarize assault and murder people (both civilian and Border Patrol agents) along the border on a regular basis. Homes in the area are regularly ransacked, burglarized and shot up.
What is far more frightening is the fact that many of the intrusions into our country are at the hands of Mexican soldiers and police, who often assist in drug, gun and human smuggling. In 2008, there were nearly 300 (documented) incursions by Mexican officers and soldiers
Mr. Obama hopes to welcome these people into our country with open arms. I predict, here and now, that illegal immigration will be one of Mr. Obama’s next big pushes, and it will be his political suicide
as Sarah campaigns for him.
And this is the thanks he gets… Speaks to the character of the people coming across methinks.
No prediction necessary, he’s already said so. Get ready…
It is widely expected that both agencies will announce later today that due to a lack of leads, the Robert Krentz death will be relegated to the cold case file.
That one to me is a head scratcher. I do not see where she has any residual obligation to him. Mind boggling thing for her to do.

Consider what you do not know that has probably gone on between them. Personal loyalty matters. Trust matters.
However, this support for McCain by all of the leading GOP Presidential prospects helps Pawlenty, since it makes Palin, Romney and Pawlenty look no different from eachother to those on the right.
If the only decision about choosing between the three is which one has the best chance of winning the general election in 2012, Pawlenty is the clear choice.
I’m sure the local ranchers are already armed to the teeth and the Feds are more prone to lock them up than the illegals. This has been an invasion on our soil for 30 years or more and we’ve no one to blame but ourselves.
We go into restaurants where it’s clear they have a non-english speaking staff in the back, gardeners/landscapers use them, drive up to Home Depot early in the morning you’ll see contractors with logos on their trucks hiring day labors, babysitters (which if that child is your treasured baby but you’ll hire someone to watch them you don’t have a clue about their background is insanity), window washers, and the list goes on. You want cheap produce and meat – well, you’ve got that too.
And, this poor rancher is dead. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
The border states need to pass the Florida law known as the “Castle Doctrine” and give those land owners the right to protect themselves, families and property.
One: It establishes, in law, the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into your home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, therefore a person may use any manner of force, including deadly force, against that person.
Two: It removes the “duty to retreat” if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. You no longer have to turn your back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Instead, you may stand your ground and fight back, meeting force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others. [This is an American right repeatedly recognized in Supreme Court gun cases.]
Three: It provides that persons using force authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such force.
It also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them.
It gives rights back to law-abiding people and forces judges and prosecutors who are prone to coddling criminals to instead focus on protecting victims.

We have lots of levees along the Rio Grande here in Texas that were in desperate need of maintenance. When the border fence was being proposed a very enterprising fellow suggested the fences be placed atop the levees to quell the few folks who objected to the fence (they typically said it was for aesthetics). It was aproved under Bush’s term and the work has been going on for about 6 months. Napalitano stripped out the fences about two months ago but the levee maintenance continues.
The weird part is that if you cross into Mexico, you can’t get back without a passport – but any Mexican can more or less just walk on in.

I kinda get why the number isn’t greater. There are at least a third who are lazy, complacent, and entitled to riches they’ve never earned. It is sad that these sort of people will use citizenship that they have so little respect for, and don’t know the history behind to get things to make their lives “easier.”
Another aspect of this problem is our education system, both public schools and our university system. Kids are only given one point of view in school and that point of view follows them throughout life. That POV is weighed more than, say, the learning of life skills such as math, language, and history.
One more aspect that people need to keep in mind is class/economic jealousy. There are people in this country who resent that there are productive, hard-working citizens who earn more than them. I’ve met such people in both the latino and black communities. These two minority groups have no accountability for their actions and are allowed to suck the rest of us dry.
These are some of the key reasons why there will always be at least a 1/3 who will never support what’s right for our country, only what’s right for them. Then there are the uninformed, bubbleheaded dopes who have no clue what’s going on in the country at all. That’s even more scary.

They go into his garage and outbuilding to see what is available for the taking or using. Jeez, if our gubmint worked half as hard and fast in catching criminals who kill citizens as they do in catching and executing people who kill gubmint workers, we would all be far safer. We the People of the United States of America have the right to have our borders and our laws respected and enforced.
Citizens of other countries illegally in our country have no right to demand anything from our government. They most certainly have the right to petition the governments of their home countries for change if they are unhappy with their home country. If they want to be Americans, we have a path to citizenship, more generous than any other nation, and it starts in their home country.
We need to insist on the equal protection, application and enforcement of the law or devolve into anarchy. Our Republic only functions if everyone follows the same rules. We should not change the laws to accomodate those breaking them.
If America annouces to the world “We can’t stop you, so come on in” with another amnesty, the deluge will be overwhelming. If 3,000 a day didn’t get your attention, then wait until it’s 10,000 a day. Better than a fence, move the military bases along our southern borders. It would be excellent training for the troops and any incursion would be a federal crime, if they survived the incident. There would be an initial cost but after the move the cost would be no more than maintaining our current bases. Also, developers have been after the nearly oceanfront property aboard Camp Pendleton for a long, long time. The military could get top dollar.
Every time Palin campaigns for McCain she puts herself on thin ice. The less she has anything to do with him, the better.
If anything, hopefully her arrival is only generating Palin fans, who came to see her not him,sucking the oxygen from within the McCain campaign to the point of asphyxiation of all that is McCain. Steve Schmidt will of course blame her again for whatever happens, but by then Sarahcudda can toss Johnny McCain like a wet Kleenex(TM) out the car window….

Such a tragedy to hear about this and to see that only 1 person is trying to help that community and that person isn’t McAmnesty himself. I want to send my thoughts and prayers from my family to the Krentz’s family. I don’t think McCain needs to be in the Senate anymore as he doesn’t look out for his constituents like he should be. I would like to give kudos to the Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association for being the first to offer a reward to whomever has information that leads to an arrest. I am sure that is gonna grow in a day or 2 as word gets out even more. Michelle as usual you are our news and we need to applaud you for bringing this peoples attention.
My wife’s uncle was murdered by an undocumented alien at his ranch in Cochise County 20 years ago.
He was arrested and put on trial but the incompetent district attorney’s office in the county did not secure a conviction.
He walked out of court in Bisbee Arizona.

I’ve advocated the same thing for years. Except with the Army bases in the southeast. Camp Pendleton is a Marine Corps base. Marines being amphibious creatures need bases close to the ocean for the training they require in amphibious warfare.

Pill – I live in Arkansas and can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that Huck would still be making excuses for not having a fence up. Instead, he’d be telling us why illegals are now legal.
As long as politicians, in self-interest and re-election hopes, cater to the Hispanic community for votes, we will always have a weak border and amnesty. “Mr. Congressman, if you want to pass your programs and win re-election, you need to support the Hispanic lobby.” It’s a temptation hard to resist, if you are self-interested and not country-interested.
Duncan Hunter is the name of that candidate and should have been the nominee, but everyone said he wasn’t “electable” like McAmnesty supposedly was.

The GOP was determined to not have amnesty on the ballot. They wanted an amnesty candidate. They still do. Palin, Pawlenty, Romney, and most of the frequently mentioned 2012 potentials are all beholden to the cheap labor express. Vote accordingly.

Our corrupt North Korea style media wont report this, as they would (on page 1) if this was a liberal who was gunned down. When will people realize that the corrupt media is the #1 threat to our democracy. It has already put a Marxist in the WH. And it is responsible for disseminating propaganda to tens of millions of people in this Country who are only marginally interested in politics enough to be fooled by their lies. When will the corruption and bias of our “free press”, that is supposed to be the cornerstone of a democracy, the watch dogs for the people, be given the importance it deserves?? There needs to be no less than a Congressional investigation of corruption and bias in the media, with some type of action to follow. If ever there was a true need for a “Fairness Doctrine”, it is on the public airwaves of the television news media.
“Homeland Security” was busy over in Michigan, trumping up “charges” against some Christian group. It seems the government thugs would rather persecute Christians than try to keep us safe from violent illegals from Mexico.
