Guns Don’t Kill Coyotes, Rick Perry Does
This could cost Texas Governor Rick Perry the endorsement of PETA, but to save the life of his dog, it’s worth it:
AUSTIN, Texas – Pistol-packing Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a message for wily coyotes out there: Don’t mess with my dog.
Perry told The Associated Press on Tuesday he needed just one shot from the laser-sighted pistol he sometimes carries while jogging to take down a coyote that menaced his puppy during a February run near Austin.
Perry said he will carry his .380 Ruger — loaded with hollow-point bullets — when jogging on trails because he is afraid of snakes. He’d also seen coyotes in the undeveloped area.
When one came out of the brush toward his daughter’s Labrador retriever, Perry charged.
“Don’t attack my dog or you might get shot … if you’re a coyote,” he said Tuesday.
Watch out, Governor Perry — this may prompt Larry “you kids get offa my Shawn!” King and Michael Moore to call for all coyotes to be armed so the animals can shoot back and make it fair, just like they did with Sarah Palin’s moose.
In a related story, Florida Governor Charlie Crist screamed like a woman and jumped on a chair when he saw a mouse run out from under his tanning bed.

Good for Gov Perry, he should protect his daughter’s puppy.
Must be very afraid of snakes, a bit of overkill don’t ya think? If there are snakes along the trail that can’t be killed with a .22, I ain’t jogging it. But who am I to argue? Fire!
Way to go Gov. Perry! I would do the same for my critters. It is always a good idea to carry a gun when you are out walking in some areas, snakes, or other things could do harm to you.
L
A conundrum for PETA. If the coyote lives the puppy dies. If the coyote dies the puppy lives. Where to put the compassion? Perry obviously should have sacrificed himself to the coyote so both animals could survive. Only ethical solution.
I was thinking a .380 was a bit of an overkill for snakes and four-legged coyotes too. There won’t be much left of a snake a hollow-point round. But, it is still a free country despite our current President so “smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.”
We lived with coyotes in Colorado … they can be brazen.
This from a guy who once wanted to take out a chihuahua with a .50 cal.
They make a great little gun in Texas called the snake killer. It’s made by Bond Arms in Granbury, TX. bondarms.com “Made in Texas for Texans” – Perry, how come you’re not carrying one of those?
Very same reason I have my SW .40. Walking down to the pond with my dogs – they have come after us then run -
What about the snakes? Does PETA not care about them? Or does PETA only care about fuzzy critters?
Instrumental leaders like Gov.s Rick Perry and Jan Brewer are what this country needs in all levels of elected office.
The “I feel your pain,” indecisive crew we’ve elected thus far just can’t man-up to get the job done!
The best coyote is a dead coyote hangin on the fence by the cattle guard (no, not the guy who guards the cattle, Obambam).
Depends on how you define “Snake”, some of them carry guns and rob people for a living, and certain drug/illegal alien smugglers are often referred to as coyotes. For them a .380 with HP is just the ticket (although I’m partial to a .357 FMJ Rugar Blackhawk myself).
I have a friend that uses a gatling gun to shoot coyotes on his place. Does a good job of stopping them, but the pelts aren’t much when he’s done shooting.
Who needs a firearm when you have an attack cat?
Go get ‘em Fluffy!
When I first saw the headline, I thought it was a 2-legged kind of “coyote” down by the border.
slang def. of coyote: one who smuggles human beings across the international border
If PETA complained to Obama that cattle guards were cruel to cows, he’d order Eric Holder tp prosecute them.
Rumor has it the mouse was called Marco.
I did too. The 2-legged kind deserve this kind of treatment as much, if not more, than the 4-legged variety.
On Drudge=CA Duncan Hunter said he would want to deport the U.S. born children of illegal immigrants. WOW, in CA this is said?

Sorry wrong thread.

Yes, b-cat, but a laser-sighted Ruger LCP .380 is easily concealable.
Overkill is not a bad thing in my estimation.
Extremism in self defense is no vice.
I present to you the new object of envy,
the S&W 500 Magnum revolver in action.
Good for him! A varmint is a varmint, two legs or four!
I’m still waiting for the day when a person can own and carry a “Personal Flamethrower”. Get those pesky skateboarders off the sidewalk where I’m trying to walk!
It just occured to me. Obama fits the textbook definition of a city slicker.
It’s the CIIIIIIIRRRRRCLE of LIIIIIIIIFE!
“It just occured to me. Obama fits the textbook definition of a city slicker.”
While I agree, a lot of folks I know like to call him a Knob – normally it would be door knob but a door knob at least has a function.
I’m rather partial to “post turtle.”
No conundrum at all. Peta is on record as saying that all domesticated animals should be eradicated and only wild non-human bred creatures should be roaming the earth.
I guess PETA would have a fit if they knew, lol, about the bobcat I prosecuted with extreme prejudice whole trying to attack my baby goats.
Little doggie like quadrupeds aren’t the only “coyotes” or “snakes” he has to watch out for, hence the .380 – although I imagine he’s got a couple of security guys jogging with him.
Can’t he just jog with humane traps slung over his shoulder?! :0
This from the guy who said that hunting ducks with a shotgun was for sissys, and that a duck hunter should use a .338 Winchester Magnum-the clavicle breaking edition!
The bobcat must have been quite a distraction while you were attacking the goats…
In Texas I believe this would be a “moma’s boy”…
PROUD TO BE A TEXAN!!!
lol. How about a couple of security guys named Smith and Wesson?
Depends on where he’s jogging. Even on his ranch Bush had to have fellow joggers – whether he wanted them or not. I don’t know if the same applies to the guv.
PETA doesn’t care –really care, I mean– about any critters, fuzzy or otherwise.
Many members of PETA who DO care about them are misguided into thinking so, though.
King’s ex (No. 6) says King is a swinger — so no problem.
Nope not good enough. He should have taken the time to reason with the coyote and understand the coyotes feelings so they could end the day as friends just get along together in world full of rainbows…./sarc
True, Perry, the Coyote and Obama all sharing a beer while Prof gates researches the coyote’s family tree.
LOL…great now I need to call tech support I think my keyboard is ruined due to coffee….
They can’t each have one of their own?
Only if the cost of the beer is deficeit neutral.
Chap; PETA cares more about snaildarder fish than humans. They would rather put people out of work than allow fishing in the oceans.
No. They CLAIM to care, and are happy to put people out of work to perpetuate the ruse.
There is a big difference.
I bet the coyote orders Acme beer.

A co-worker sold his “in town” home and moved to a ritzier place on the side of the 8000 ft. high mountain in El Paso, Tx. The place has a 5 ft. high rock wall in back–he had his 1 year old Black Lab tied out there.
***
One night he heard the dog barking and crying–when he went outside he saw what he thought was a very big dog biting one of the Lab’s front legs. He picked up a shovel that was nearby and went out to help his dog.
***
In the darkness he hit the intruder in the head–and then noticed that it was a mountain lion! He hit the cougar a few more times–the stunned cat turned loose of the Lab’s leg. The Lab then got a bite on the puma’s leg, and a few more hits made the cat jump over the wall and leave.
***
It took about 60 stitches to patch up the Lab–who survived–and never wanted to go back outside again. Also–take a good gun with you when you go outside.

I think an Acme beer would be a bit skunky by now.
The fundamental difference between Gov. Perry and the vile folk who refer to themselves as “liberals” is that Perry doesn’t consider the coyote to be evil.
He doesn’t frame it as being anything but a coyote. This what coyote’s do. They’re hungry, they’re hunters, and they are going to try and feed themselves.
Nowhere does Perry say “I declare war on all coyotes. We will exterminate them.”
All he asked for, and received, was the right to carry a weapon to protect himself and his property, and the right to use that weapon properly when faced with a threat.
Liberals, including PETA, will tell you that the coyote had “feelings.” They’ll tell you that the coyote had “rights.” They’ll tell you that Perry was “mean.”
It’s like there’s a special classification of Stupid, just for liberals. Seriously, it’s like a mental disorder.
Anything beats “Pearl” or “Lone Star.”
RE: Rocketman’s story.
We had a lady here in CO who went to rescue her dog from a puma using a shotgun. Learn from her mistake; when you bring your gun, be sure it is loaded.
Bad idea if he did. I remember reading that, decades ago, ranchers/farmers somewhere in Arizona got tired of coyotes and mountain lions raiding their herds, so they put a bounty on them and wiped them out. It became an area overrun with rodents and destroyed a lot of the pasture lands. They learned about predator/prey relationships the hard way.
I can beat that!
A Honolulu man was playing Russian _oulette. He used a M1911A Military 45 with just ONE bullet in the clip.
Always, always use a revolver when playing Russian _oulette.
(The “R” was removed above in order to clear the filter.)
Family style…
Graysonret,
No doubt that loading the shotgun was a better idea than going in with an empty shotgun, but I do have to ask (not that I expect you to know):
What load did the owner assume she had in the gun?
Unless she was confident that she was going to get the barrel to within 6 inches or a moving puma, she was going to spray both dog and cat with lead. Yikes.
And re: exterminating coyotes, I totally agree. My point was that Perry isn’t just a visceral whiner, like liberals. He doesn’t view coyotes as something that needs to be exterminated, etc.
Yeah, bad idea getting rid of coyotes. They’re definitely a key part of the ecosystem.
Which isn’t to say that I won’t shoot one if threatened. I backpack and, believe me, there have been times when they sounded like they were right outside the tent.
And that’s when I put a round in the chamber, sit up, wait for them to clear the area, and then un-chamber the round.
I really have to write PETA and ask them
“in this situation which animal deserves to die, and how? Do we let my dog get torn to shreds and die in agony as the family watches, or is the proper liberal protocol to kill the coyote with one round?”
Please let me know…

This situation would never have arisen, if you were cruelly keeping a dog as a slave in the first place. Therefore, either way, it’s all your fault.
Yours Truly,
PETA
At least. . .that’s how I suspect their response would go.
It would make me extremely sad to learn that someone was harmed by a wild animal while protecting a CAT.
Yashmak…
…that was fantastic…
I was thinking that PETA might counsel me to sacrifice myself, then my wife and children, to save the dog’s life.
Even so, that was superb!
When walking in the out county enjoying the scenery and communing with Mother Gaia, respecting all of the Mother Earth Gaia’s critters I prefer to carry a .45LC Single Action Ruger Blackhawk and thus dispatch said critter to be with mama. It’s a family value thing. I would like to shoot PETA critters but have been informed it is seriously disapproved of. For Michael Moore I imagine a can of spray deodorant would be a one shot drop
Several years ago we had a man save his nephew from a mountain lion attack using a 22LR pistol. It worked THAT TIME but I prefer a little more bark and bite.We of the local Critter Gitters and Varmint Dispatchers salute the Gov and his dog, the uncle with the 22LR and good shots everywhere.
For that other species of coyote down here we plan to trap them and send them to San Francisco for rehabilitation. Let Newsome deal with it.
The article doesn’t say what specific Ruger the Gov was carrying, but Ruger makes a .380 auto, the PCP, that weighs only 9oz, empty. Add a laser sight, six rounds, and it’s still probably under a pound. For personal defense it’s probably an excellent choice, assuming it’s reliable.
And even loaded, it’s no heavier than the old Walkmans that everyone used to jog with.
Liberals have no idea that guns are tools, that they come in different sizes and shapes, etc. They’re shocked that someone could JOG with a GUN! To them every pistol is Dirty Harry’s “most powerful handgun in the world,” and every long gun is an Assault Rifle.
Their ignorance is staggering. It would be entertaining to watch them if they’d just stay home and let the adults run thing. Amazingly, however, these vacuous fools actually live amongst us, run for office and vote.
I’m still not sure when this happened. My best guess is 1967, but I’m not sure…
Ahhhhhhh…… excuse me… but my cat is every bit as precious to me as someone’s dog. More actually.
A lot of people like cats.
A lot of people put mayo on a hot dog.
You are cruel Hangfire-remember:cats taste like chicken.
My wife found a Siamese cat once. That cat lived more than 20 years bossing around one dog after another. Her name should have been taco.

I guess my mutt is safe; He certainly was not human-bred and is a bit too wild to be considered domesticated. And I would definitely shoot anyone or any animal that tried to kill him. If time permitted, I would let them pick which caliber as any one of them would do if well placed.
BTW, the Judge or Public Defender makes an excellent snake gun if loaded with .410 shells.
According to Darwin, Humans are just domesticated animals……
– Hangfire
I think there’s a bit of a difference between evolved, and domesticated.
Darwin never met our Hippies I suppose.
And who, pray tell, domesticated them? Self-domestication? Sounds a little kinky.
would nomads be considered non-domesticated animals?
I am not, nor have I ever been a Darwinist.
I was just making a sarcastic comment, as is my way.
Next time I’ll “/sarc.”
I’m proud to be a Texan right about now. A friend of mine took photos this winter of a puma (no bobcat this critter) in his neighborhood in West Plano. So, I can understand the Governor’s choice of weapon. I personally carry a Kimber .45 with 230gr. HPs. It works for snakes of all kinds including a Boone and Crockett worthy Texas Diamondback Rattler shot near Cotulla. Thing went 12 feet without its head.
Also kudos to Representative Debbie Riddle of Tomball TX who is proposing an Arizona like immigration law here in Texas.
Too bad that this POS don’t want to protect Texas from a invasion from Mexico.
a crapweasel,
Maybe Perry’ll come around given the immigration law in AZ (or at least some pressure from the people).
In the meantime, I’ll just bask in the glory of having a governor who can shoot a gun.
I’m pretty sure the late former Gov. Ann (Pothead) Richards could shoot a gun as well. Still doesn’t change the fact that Perry thinks it’s a federal issue. Juan McCain is displaying more sense about it than Perry ever will.
A mere display until the primary when he reverts to his reptilian mode.
We are armed in Texas. I carry a 38 revolver in my specially designed purse! What a different picture we have of Florida’s woosie governor!
At first I thought this thread was about illegal alien travel agents.
crapweasel,
SatAnn Richards was a gun grabber. She had some measure of cool by being an old lady who could ride a motorcycle, but that was it. Of course, since this is Texas, most of our Donks are still pretty conservative by most standards (though there are still raving looneys).
Besides, technically it is a federal issue. Since the feds are guilty of derilection of duty, I applaud the state of Arizona for doing the job the feds won’t do. I’m hoping that we can convince Rick to make it a Texas issue now that Arizona has taken the first step.
Governor Perry and Attorney General Abbot have positioned themselves as Washington fighters. We’ll see if that is accurate.
