Obama: Make Illegals Register and Learn English
Obama has blasted the new Arizona illegal alien law that 70% of Arizona votors favor as “poorly conceived” before his justice has even finished its review (a “poorly conceived” law to the Obama administration being one that the signatory actually took the time to read). But in the same speech, Obama also said that illegals shouldn’t be harrassed with requests for papers, but rather the US should “make them register, make them pay a fine, make them learn English.”
And exactly how do we know who needs to register without checking IDs? Naturally, Obama doesn’t mean any of it — except maybe the “register” part. I have no doubt the goal is to get illegals to register… as Democrat voters.
As a Senator, Obama voted “no” on making English the official language for the US government. If Obama doesn’t care if I can understand what the clerk at the DMV is saying when I’m trying to renew my driver’s license (which I have to produce papers for, by the way), I seriously doubt he cares if a construction worker in Tuscon can speak English.
The “wink, nudge” factor from this speech yesterday in Iowa is enough to knock you off your chair — and if that doesn’t do it, you’ll fall off the chair laughing:
Help is on the way though, because according to Drudge, the Department of Homeland Security will soon have unmanned drones patrolling the Texas border, meaning that before too long we might see a drone sporting 50 legs and a sombrero running across the border while Janet Napolitano points at them as evidence that “the system is working.”
The Obama administration’s plan is for the drones to patrol the border, and if a US government official notices a threat and tries to actually do something about it, the drone will be programmed to quickly eliminate said government official.
The only remaining question is whether or not Eric Holder’s review of the Arizona law will lead to a civil trial or a military tribunal for Governor Jan Brewer.

FYI folks … the Sheriff in Pima County (Tucson area) has also never been willing to enforce the AZ Employer Laws against knowingly hiring illegal aliens … so this is not surprising …
Now … none of those “Group Class Actions Suits” … instead we need a few hundred people in those areas to file “individual” lawsuits against this sheriff, Pima county, the city of Tucson, other municipalities ignoring the new law, etc., … the pressure of a massive number of lawsuits might force their hands … not sure if that particular sheriff is up for re-election this year … but will try to find out … the more lawsuits the better …
You could amnesty every single last illegal in the country and tomorrow there would be thousands more waiting for the next one.
If you were able to get every single one of them on ‘Bambi’s Secret Registry List, would crime go down? No.
If you were able to get every single one of them set up to pay taxes, would they? No.
Would employers raise their wages and put them on the path to paying taxes on those wages? No.
Would the number of illigitimate children drop to a manageable level in order to relieve the taxpayer from footing the bill. No.
I cannot think of one single scenerio where amnesty is going to accomplish one danged thing. The Dems/Reps know this and they’re only after the vote – and you can bet they will vote for whichever party offers them the most loot.
Well, there is a certain school (An AMERICAN school) in the state of Colorado that is officially Dual Language now. Certified. by the State. No one needs to learn no stinkin’ English.

My understanding, and I’m not a lawyer, the Hatch Act bars the federal government or its officials from interfering in state government legislative matters. As they should be.
Basically, as I understand it, the Hatch Act bars federal employees from engaging in political activity at the state level, so, how can the Big Zero get away with (pre-signing) threatening AZ, and post-signing (threatening to go after the state).

as usual, urkel didn’t do his homework. mexifornia offers “english as a second language” adult ed classes for free to anyone and id checks are sometimes ignored. most illegals think the classes are an ice trap. walk into any dmv office and you face a wall of review booklets in any language you can name. of course the test can also be in a language of your choice and arrangements can be made to have your driving skills tested by someone who speaks your language. looks like the cost of it all is beyond the comprehension of most as very few question it. traffic congestion increases, roads decay, services reduced. all part of the golden state. road signs are sometimes good for a laugh, like this one.
Two or three years ago Oklahoma signed into law almost the same law as Arizona. Of course the Mexican civil rights lawyers desended on us. Did no good the law stands.
It is tough enough that I, as a 73 year old lady, accidently let my drivers license expire. Almost 6 months because I thought it expired in 2010 not 2009.
The license bureau is in a town with about 2,000 people. I have benn there many many times for my license, and car license for more than one car. They know me. But they asked for my birth certificate. I took it in, but it was a copy that didn’t have the correct seal on it, so I had to send an ID of my son in law with his picture to Oklahoma City along with a letter to vouch for me, and get a new copy of my birth certificate. The after several weeks of waiting I will be able to get my driver’s license.
Is it inconvenient as a natural born Okie. Darn right. But I’m more than willing in order to help stop illegal immigration.

These are the states which have horrendous problems with illegal aliens, Missouri doesn’t have that big of a problem, because to get a license you have to present a passport or an original birth certificate from a state. Also, Missouri wasn’t one of the id licenses you could buy from our friendly counterfietters in canada. But Kansas is drowning in wetbacks, and alas, you can buy a Kansas drivers license on those web sites. Perhaps Kansas needs to start worrying about the civil rights of it’s citizens AHEAD OF the civil rights of it’s CRIMINALS.
I hear ya. The funny thing about that is all the traffic signs are still in English. Passing a test with ‘special help’ is one thing, driving out in the real world under real circumstances is another.

Although there are obvious reasons to believe that someone who cannot speak English would not make a good citizen, I disagree with many of the comments here. I kind of like some of the elements Michelle listed which exist Mexican immigration policy. Essentially, I believe that in order to legally immigrate into the US, you should be able to prove that your presence in this country will be of benefit to others who already live here. If your main goal is to come here to become a drain on Wellfare, then you can stay out. I wouldn’t care if your English is rudimentary or if you are a publishec author. As long as you can establish that your presence here is benefitial to me and my neighbor’s, then we will want you here.
The criteria used to determine one’s usefullness is the heart of this problem. This is what underlies the great divide in our nation’s politics. The Democrats just want a bunch of voices to help usher in their legislation reforms. The rest of us, don’t want to keep paying someone else’s bill all the time.

The MSM let the backers of the last bill get away with the claim that illegal aliens would be “required” to pay a fine before becoming citizens. If anybody bothered to read the fine print, there was no lump sum payment, only gradual payments of tiny amounts that would take place over a period of years. It would not hurt anyone and there were even subsidies to illegal aliens. The claim that they would be required to “learn English” was a joke. There was no requirement that illegals take a college level examination in English. The only requirement was to take some kind of kindergarten level class and get a certificate saying that you sat through the class (no requirement to do more than that). It was a joke, start to finish. And to prove that you lived in the US for the requisite number of years, you only need to show a utility company bill. It was a fraud from start to finish.

All amnesties are a fraud. In 1986, it was estimated that about 1 million persons would apply for and receive an ultimate amnesty. A few years later a study was done to affix the precise number — the actual number found retroactively was about 3 million. Fraud and abuse were rampant.
Re: the fees that illegal applicants were supposed to have to pay… the bill was riddled with exclusions for a number particular situations: if they were in school, if they had not worked a certain number of hours in the previous year, if they weren’t of working age, etc. So the proposed fine/fees, really weren’t even applied in many (maybe most?) cases.
The Open Borders advocates just can’t bring themselves to say “we did something illegal, and there should be consequences for those choices”. They want their cake and be able to eat it too.
The only English letter “they” need to know is (D).

Since illegals haven’t thought much of our laws (and neither does Bho), what makes Bho think that the illegals will follow the law after he grants amnesty. Amid a national debate over Arizona’s tough new immigration law, Republican Alabama gubernatorial candidate Tim James (and son of previous Gov. Fob James) vows in a new campaign ad that if he’s elected, he’ll give the state driver’s license exam only in English, as a cost-saving measure.
“This is Alabama; we speak English,” he says in the ad. “If you want to live here, learn it.”
It’s not clear how James thinks the change would save the state money. Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic says Alabama could actually lose billions of dollars in federal funding if it enacts the measure, and he points to an Alabama political blog that runs down the legal history for why the exams are in multiple languages.
James says he’s been attacked by the left for the ad, singling out MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. A writer on her blog called the ad “just plain mean” and argued it was simply pandering to the candidate’s conservative base.
“I have come under attack and under assault by a very interesting group of far-left reporters,” he said Monday, according to the Birmingham News. He said English exams are a public safety issue, to ensure drivers can read signs. Exams are currently given in Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese, according to AOL News.
