Whose country is it, anyway?
A group of California students who dared to wear the American flag on Cinco de Mayo learned a hard lesson about the corruption of citizenship and sovereignty this week.
They were sent home for their show of U.S. patriotism.
Because while flying the colors of reconquista is perfectly acceptable, flying Old Glory is practically a hate crime. KTVU reports:
Five students at a South Bay high school stirred up some controversy Wednesday for wearing t-shirts depicting red, white and blue American flags on Cinco de Mayo.
School officials at Live Oak High in Morgan Hill told the students they had to go home if they wouldn’t turn the shirts inside out.
One of the students said it appeared school administrators were worried the patriotic shirts could trigger fights.
Some students at Live Oak High in Morgan Hill said others were planning to come to school Thursday wearing red, white and blue.
Four of the five students who wore American flags or patriotic colors on campus walked into a meeting with the superintendent of the Morgan Hill unified school district Wednesday night.
They were facing unexcused absences because they chose to go home early rather than take off what they were wearing.
…Some Mexican-American students KTVU spoke with said they thought wearing red, white and blue on Cinco de Mayo was disrespectful.
“It’s just kinda disrespectful that they would do that on this day,” said student Victoria Wright. “I mean, we don’t go around on 4th of July wearing red white and green and saying ‘Viva Mexico,’ because that’s disrespectful.”

Disrespected? I’m confused. Aren’t all the students Americans? Who is being disrespected by the display of our shared national flag?
Let’s pause for a moment and peel back the layers. It seems that many of the Hispanic students at Live Oak High (and probably innumerable other high schools across the country) have been so inculcated with an “identity politics” curriculum that, under the rubric of instilling pride and self-esteem, they have been convinced that they are somehow distinct from and separate from the other American students; that “we” feel disrespected when forced to perceive an American flag.
The school administration then stirs in their own toxic contribution: An assumption (typical of the “soft racism” of leftist ideology) that Hispanic students will respond with violence when they feel disrespected (“the patriotic shirts could trigger fights” is the euphemism they used). Even worse, fearing violence from Hispanic students, the administrators solve the crisis by banishing the “offensive” items, rather than warning students that any violence will be severely punished. In other words, the racist administrators insultingly assumed that their Hispanic students would erupt in violence at the sight of an American flag, and the only way to prevent this is to cower at the presumptive violence and preemptively cave in to the mob’s demands that American flags be banned from campus.
Are the United States and Mexico at war? Is May 5 some kind of “Hate America Day”? What the hell is going on here? Aren’t the U.S. and Mexico allies? Aren’t we friendly neighbors? What is the source of the friction? Isn’t the United States a melting pot where people of every ethnic heritage all live together in harmony as Americans — rather than being a collection of self-segregated ethnic enclaves seething with mutual hostility?
The left threw assimilation out the window decades ago, of course. And educators no longer teach civic pride. It’s all about assigning blame, assuaging guilt, and stoking grievances. P.C. is the death of us.

Probably not. Might be in favor of disrespected French tourists beating up US citizens wearing US flags on t-shirts on the 14th of July, though.
They have these thangs in NYC and Atlanta, and I’m sure elsewhere.
I was referring to Jamaican culture being awesome. To each his own if you want to be proud of your heritage. I guess like most of y’all, I identify more with the USA, and the South specifically, than I do any other culture. But I am also a mutt, and pretty far removed from the old countries.
No, I’m still inciting violence. The kids are a**holes and deserve to get their a**es kicked (like a lot of people), but as far as an educator is concerned, they should not be punished for exercising their First Amendment rights.

This strikes me as a case of making a statement that it’s not appropriate to celebrate one’s heritage, unless that heritage is All American. I proudly fly my American flag, but I’m not about to be a d*** about it.

What goose-stepping, book-burning morons like RSS fail to admit is that it is the Mexicans who are actively talking about “reconquista” and not simply an expression of ethnic and cultural pride.
Though somebody needs to tell me why Mexicans feel they have much to be proud of since their own country is such a hell hole that 10% to 20% of the entire Mexican labor force is now living in the USA.
If they were that proud of Mexico one would suppose they would all be there celebrating their cultural superiority over the Gringos up north rather than here telling us how racist we are when we display an American flag on an fabricated event that is not even a holiday in Mexico…
I know you don’t like questions that require a realistic answer, but I’ll ask again anyway. How can you know what these kids intended? In what way is it disrespectful or inappropriate to honor ones own flag on any day? The Irish is a good analogy. Who would be objecting to some kids honoring the American flag on St. Pats day?

I’ve responded to this alleged email on another forum, as I will here. It was attributed to a rancher before and now to a “retired” Border Patrol Agent. I think this is taking on some sort of internet life of its own.
While I understand the frustration regarding the murder, I fully reject the unfair and unwarranted attack on the Border Patrol.
The Border Patrol are in no way “afraid” of angering the cartels, afraid of starting a “war” with civilians, as the cartels view the Agents as the greater threat to their business.
The Border Patrol Agents do everything they can to stop, arrest, jail-and-throw-away-the-key of all the smuggler and illegals they can lay their hands on. The Agents all have a bounty on their head, some Agents more than others, because of what they have done in their activities related to stopping the cartels. (My son, an AZ Border Patrol Agent, has a bounty 5-times higher than the standing bounty).
The Border Patrol operate 24/7, stopping the cartels and stopping the Mexican army as it escorts the drug smugglers into the US. The Border Patrol are eager to catch them and are not afraid of any cartel, army or stupid thug wanna-be. The Border Patrol has the toughest federal law enforcement academy in the nation. They cover everything from immigration law to the basics of case management, applied law, constitutional law to immersion training in Spanish, to firearms training with higher qual scores than any other agency but the Air Marshals, do combat room clearing exercises and sophisticated shoot-don’t-shoot scenarios. Physically, they are hard as nails when they graduate, going round after round of stacking where they fight, alone, many instructors at the same time, whereas other academies have many students against one instructor. Back-up may be hours away so they have to be tough.

Now, notwithstanding my appreciation for the frustration, THAT is an unnecessary attack on the honor and professionalism of the Border Patrol.
The Border Patrol Agents are more skilled than the “Lone Wolf” trackers, more skilled than most when it comes to tracking because the desert is their office and they cut sign every day and night, track for hours to set-up and take-down illegals and smugglers. And the smugglers attack and fight the Border Patrol Agents daily. In fact, the other night, an agent in my son’s unit was trying to intercept in the desert a smugglers re-supply vehicle and the smuggler tried to run over the agent. Shots were fired and this lone Agent took down four smugglers.
So, to say the Border Patrol is “afraid” or not professional and somehow were unable to stop some thug muderer is wrong on many levels.
In an earlier version of this email is a statement here that said ranchers trapped the murderer and the guy got away from the Border Patrol. (See, same email but different emotive rant).
This is not the time to attack the Border Patrol as they go about their daily (and deadly business). In fact, there is no time for that at all.
Further to the above, it is not clear that ranchers tracked and trapped the murderer. I highly doubt it because if he was trapped, that would mean the murderer was seen the entire time. Eyes-on the entire time is the only way to prove the murderer was trapped.
There is no evidence that’s what those kids were saying. NONE.
Free expression can inadvertently offend. But dealing with it is a responsibility of free speech. The school’s principal was too stupid, cowardly or lazy to use this situation to teach that principal.
Oh, but why should teachers teach in a public school? /sarc
Ironically one of the five kids wearing the American flag has a father who is Mexican. And it appears that his Mexican father is supporting his son…

There’s no such thing as “West Indian” day that has nearly the reach or popularity that Cinco De Mayo does here. The point is that showing the Mexican flag isn’t a celebration of the Mexican culture, it’s a statement about the wish to achieve “reconquista.”

KTVU is also reporting that 40-50 students walked out in protest today in support… not of their fellow students or America… but in support of the teacher who wanted the shirts inside out. Seeing those shirts on Cinco de Mayo “hurts” them.

This story is not only outrageous but quite frankly scary that we have educators that have such little respect for our country not to mention our flag. I hope these families get lawyers and go after this school district. This just show’s what they are teaching to our children– what we’ve known for a long time now. Great job to those families that are teaching their boys to be proud Americans. We can only pray that the new immigrants in our country love our country and respect its flag. If they don’t (as this article shows examples of) we are in serious trouble as a country.
I’m a mother to a 3 yr old boy. It is so important as conservative mom’s that we must be involved with our children’s education and if this craziness goes on in our kid’s schools we must be a loud voice against it and not stand for it.

There was an incident at Klein Collins High School in Spring Texas (just north of Houston)yesterday as well. Some idiot of a school administrator had the brilliant idea of flying a Mexican Flag on the flagpole out front. one kid called his mom to tell her, the mother phoned the school to complain that it was inappropriate but was forced to leave a message which was not returned. The kid finally decided he’d had enough and took the flag down himself. He was suspended for three days and has to pay for a new Mexican Flag. I have written an email to the principal, the AP that gave out the punishment, and every member of the school board, and I made it crystal clear that this was inappropriate on their part and that they all will be seeking other employment if this continues.
This is still America, isn’t it…

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. Those kids look like the All-American kids of my generation. Rather innocent in the ways of the world today. They don’t realize what they are dealing with. I pray they don’t find out. It used to be that you could counter-protest the Progressives and not get killed. That has changed. They need to watch their backs and maybe even have some kind of “under the radar” protection. And ditto for Kwanza and other made-up celebrations that benefit a few, but require all of us to act enthusiastically over them. Sinko de Mayo and Kwanza mean nothing to me or a majority of Americans. Now, Independence Day, there is a holiday we can ALL celebrate!! Also, Easter, Passover, Hannakuh and Christmas. Muslums have a holy day. That is fine and I respect that. I didn’t realize that so many Mexicans had emigrated around the world; nor that locations around the world cared about Mexico enough to celeberate something to a greater degree than Mexico itself does.
I wonder;
Would Mexican school officials (or anyone else in Mexico) likewise disallow or be offended by Mexicans wearing a Mexican flag on their shirts on the 4th of July in Mexico City?

I think what the Live Oak administrators did to these students was a ‘hate crime’. A government employee singled out and punished these students for their patriotism and denied their First Amendment right to free speech.
If these students were homosexuals wearing sexually provocative/disturbing T-shirts that could have incited violence against them something tells me the school would not have said anything to them.
How long will it take Eric Holder to indict the hateful people who denied the civil rights of these students?
We will overcome….
When I see a kid suspended from a Texas school, for taking down a Mexican flag that was raised higher than the U.S. flag, I think it’s time to really start action against our school systems and the Mexican takeover of our country.
Hmmm. The silence of one called on his racist slip is tacit admission of same.

Except for one province – Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated in Mexico.
