A gaffetastic new Miss USA

She nearly tripped over her gown.
She called birth control a “controlled substance.”
She argued that contraceptives should be covered by health insurers because they are “expensive” — and then said you could get them for “free” from your OB/GYN’s office.
And now she is the new Miss USA:
Rima Fakih of Dearborn, Mich., won the pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip after swimsuit, evening gown and interview competitions. When asked how she felt about winning the crown, she said, “Ask me after I’ve had a pizza.”
Fakih nearly fell while finishing her walk in a long, strapless gown because of the length of its train, but she made it without a spill and went on to win.
During the interview portion, Fakih was asked whether she thought birth control should be paid for by health insurance, and she said she believed it should because it’s costly.
“I believe that birth control is just like every other medication even though it’s a controlled substance,” Fakih said.
Imagine if those words had come out of the mouth of Carrie Prejean or Sarah Palin.
Between the NYTimes, MSNBC, Jon Stewart, and the late night talkers, we wouldn’t hear the end of it.
Does this woman know what a “controlled substance” is?
More importantly: Does she even comprehend the concept of insurance? The purpose of insurance isn’t to cover every last medical expense. It’s supposed to cover events that are beyond your control. Should auto insurers now cover oil changes and satellite radio installations? I mean, hey, they’re “expensive,” too!
Fakih’s cheerleaders are too busy tooting the identity politics horn to care what comes out of her mouth:
Arab Americans across metro Detroit cheered as Rima Fakih of Dearborn was crowned Miss USA tonight in Las Vegas.
“This is unbelievable,” said Rami Haddad, 26 of Livonia, one of Fakih’s biggest supporters. “It’s a dream come true. I can’t express my feelings.”
Fakih, of Lebanese descent, is believed to be the first Arab American and Muslim to become Miss USA.
***
Meanwhile, Miss Oklahoma lost out after expressing support for Arizona’s immigration enforcement law and celebrating states’ rights:
Miss Oklahoma USA Morgan Elizabeth Woolard was named first runner-up after handling a question about Arizona’s new immigration law. Woolard said she supports the law, which requires police enforcing another law to verify a person’s immigration status if there’s “reasonable suspicion” that the person is in the country illegally.
She said she’s against illegal immigration but is also against racial profiling.
“I’m a huge believer in states’ rights. I think that’s what’s so wonderful about America. So I think it’s perfectly fine for Arizona to create that law.
Looks like the Miss USA pageant didn’t want to risk the wrath of the open-borders mob.
Or of that ranting, conservative woman-bashing nutball and former Miss USA judge, Perez Hilton.

This is typical.
I don’t think of beauty contestants of having the highest of IQs. I can tell you from working years selling health insurance – most people think anything that requires a presription is controlled. They do not know that controlled is more than just prescription.
On a better note – the Ginobolli’s had twins today.
On a sad note – Ronny James Dio passed away.
Gee… I thought arab-American women were supposed to be covered head to toe in cloth. Mohammed won’t be liking this…
Somehow I have a feeling that some of the Dearborn imams will not be quite so…effusive…during next Friday’s khutbah.
I would be surprised if she knew what a pizza is…
ErinF, you beat me to it.
Does the Muslim community celebrate Muslim women parading in public in swimsuits?
Hard to tell the difference between Miss USA pageants and Judiciary Committee hearings for Supreme Court. At least Miss USA contestants answer the questions.
Why are such volatile questions asked at these events to begin with? …
No matter which way the contestant responds they are going to be heavily criticized from one side or the other …
If they insist on asking questions on controversial subjects shouldn’t every contestant be asked the same set of questions … that way their answers can be compared reasonably rather than being judged on the controversy of the actual question …
There is a great deal of difference in a question regarding insurance benefits and a question regarding the Arizona Immigration Enforcement Law …
It is no wonder that these pageants have lost their impact and popularity when one considers that idiots like Perez Hilton serve as judges …
I was wondering if she was a Muslim. (Yes, I saw that she is.)
That explains the black-hole grade ignorance.
Muslim President, Muslim Miss America, those French dudes have nothing on us. Ok, so maybe they got a couple a more Muslims than we do, but we’re working on it.
I don’t care! She is S-M-O-K-I-N-G hot!
GOD BLESS AMERICA! For real, what a great Miss USA!
This is why they make their women wear veils. There are a ton of amazing arab women but they aren’t allowed to show it.
So what about the health insurance question. Nobody in this country can coherently speak about health insurance anyway. If insurance covers it, you pay more in premium.
It was courageous for a Muslim woman to be OK with birth control. In many Muslim countries, the woman is the man’s property and her job is to bear him children.
She was courageous for saying birth control was a woman’s right.
What a fantastic Miss USA!
And for the record, I didn’t particularly like her gown. I’m a big fan though. What a great role model for Muslim women around the world. She can be an ambassador about how fantastic it is to be an American and what a great country it is – EVEN FOR A MUSLIM (see, they aren’t oppressed).
I’m a big fan of Rima Fakih! Well done Mr. Trump. . . another great show.
Oh don’t worry, she’ll now become an overpaid ‘personal assistant’ to some billionaire…heh, heh
Personally, the ‘Miss USA’ pagent has been going downhill since they got rid of Bert Parks as emcee…
Maybe she can make a goodwill tour to, say, Saudi Arabia or Iran to show off her glamor shots and offer her views on birth control to her fellow Muslims?
I’m sure the imams would appreciate these:

I wonder what kind of reception the “Religion of Peace” would give her?
What a P.C. load of bull this pageant has turned into.
come on, don’t PC me. Don’t hate her because she’s hot. Frankly, I thought she was a little skinny and not tall enough either.
But she got high marks in every event. When it came down to comparing the final 5, her raven hair stood out in the sea of blond. The blonds were amazingly awesome and tall. . . but they split the blond vote. She got all the brunette vote and she won.
Let’s not make more out of it than it was. There were a lot of hot women on the stage, and a really hot woman won. . . and – as the Lord said – It was good.
Thacker, you need a date…
you askin me out?
Nope, you’ve got Miss USA on your mind…I’d be no competition against that..HAHAHA
Er, the contest’s bio says that while Lebanese Muslims and Christians sometimes intermarry, she attended Catholic school. No burqas for her.
Maybe CAIR will hire her to be its new spokesmodel.
First off, Miss USA and Miss America are two different contests with the Miss America Pageant being 31 years older than the Miss USA Pageant. Bert Parks was part of the Miss America Pageant.
Secondly, this dimwit of a winner, Rima Fakih, reprtedly has close ties to Hezbollah through family members.
Maybe one of her questions should have been the question put forth by David Horowitz to the young woman at the University of California at San Diego. That would have seemed fair considering the question asked of Miss Oklahoma.
The various birth control pills and shots are controlled substances in that the government controls their distribution, but they are not Controlled Substances under the Controlled Substances Act.
It’s not available over the counter, which was her point. And it should be. Heck, it should come free with every purchase you make at Walmart.
Maybe you don’t know much about Muslims.
And you’re a horrible person.
so when is she going to be murdered to defend her families “honor” and which relative is going to do it?
does Vegas have a pool going yet?
I think she’d be considered very skinny and not too attractive by Arab standards. They like their women well upholstered.
Ahhh… the essence of Liberal discourse. Where, pray tell, did I say anything remotely resembling that I “hate” her? Hint: nowhere.
Hey Donald, Scripted outcome?
It is the new normal under the O admn. If you attempt to save lives, you get military trial under O (Black water Navy Seals or Haditha).
But, U.S. SOLDIERS GET highest German medal for bravery for saving the lives of German Soldiers.
I agree. You should pay for it.
I didn’t watch the pageant, haven’t for years. Like most of broadcast television, this event has gone downhill. Sad, it use to be a source of state pride, now, not so much.
Tripped over her gown and gave an answer that made no sense and still won? Of course political correctness won.
Miss OK and Miss ME were the only two to actually answer the questions they were given.
If this woman was born Muslim and went to a Catholic school, then that alone is worthy of a death sentence under Sharia law as practiced in many Muslim nations.
If she was allowed to live, they might show their merciful charity by only administering a public flogging.
Here, she is free to do what she wants to do. Over there, she would be wrapped up in a sack and already have had 12 children, perhaps one of those “operations” to remove all pleasure from the marriage for her, better to not stray.
This culture of the 6th century is so sick and twisted it is hard for people who were raised in freedom to even comprehend.
Here in Michigan we don’t care how or why she won the gig; we’re just happy to have one less person in the unemployment line.
You’re in Michigan? My sympathies.
Your posts here are awesome Doug.
I always enjoy your guest hosting.
Seems to me that the controversial questions such as the ones asked of Carrie Prejean and Miss Oklahoma are used to automatically eliminate someone.
This should get real good. Hope “The Donald” has enough money to provide security for her. After the next earthquake in Iran, she’ll need it.
Also, I suspect her health insurance will come in handy after she’s head butted at her first new conference …
If you saw any of the interviews of Trump’s people from the Miss USA organization about the sexy pictures taken of the contestants, they kept saying that the pictures made Miss USA “relevant” for our times.
So, now they have a “relevant” winner and add that statement to their after contest interviews.
Why are you even wasting bytes & bandwidth on this bimbo, Michelle?
…yawn.
Birth control doesn’t protect against STD. Why doesn’t anyone call people out who promote these pills to young people?
I, for one, am proud of our Miss Oklahoma.
It’s better to loose the contest because one stood on ones principles than to win the contest by giving a sensless answer.
They will be singing and swinging from the minarets in Dearborn today.
Perhaps you’ve forgotten how Islam treats women.
Compared to Islamic countries, this woman is amazingly free and well educated, but still obviously undereducated (which is what ignorant means; lacking knowledge). But even in America, Muslims still tend to treat women as second class, though not as badly as elsewhere.
Why does that make me a bad person to be disturbed by this?
That she is from Dearborn, Mich. was all it took for me to give her a second glance,& then the last name…Unreal.
No doubt a fatwa has been issued along with a burqua to cover her arms by those rascally radical Protestants who run Dearborn. (What are those two words again, Holder? You know, the terrorist types from a certain religious fanatical group?).
Why have freakin’ booty contests become political theater?
Hey Rima, shut the heck up and go make me a sandwich! And don’t be chintsy with the Colby-Jack!
I moved from Michigan back to Oklahoma. Miss Michigan vs Miss Oklahoma – just another example of why.
Why am I not surprised:
http://www.stoptheaclu.com/2010/05/17/miss-michigan-wins-miss-usa-pageant-arab-americans-excited/
WHOH! Brace yourselves in Iran!
It’s bad enough that jobs are fleeing Michigan, but it’s equally distressing that apparently all the American hotties are leaving too.
Matty, unless I am mistaken, she is an American hottie.
My first thought was that she might be a Maronite like my neighbor.
Oh, and Rogue Cheddar, have her make you a Kafta or a Kibbee. yum.
Thanks Brian! I appreciate it.
Michelle has some very talented writing connections — but fortunately for me she couldn’t convince any of them to guest-host, so here I am.
Yes, I’m in Michigan, and I still have a job. We’d move but now I’m kind of pushing the envelope to see how long I can stay employed here. It’s kind of like that episode of Seinfeld where they kept driving the car even though the gas gauge was on “E” out of sheer curiosity to see how far the thing could go.
Those who live in fear of Perez Hilton live in fear indeed.
Behind the veil Missy and pop out a lot of little Jihad Johnnys (or Mohammads) and learn to herd goats and sheep while wearing a burkha.
==
May your flocks and herds prosper
all four wives be submissive
Arab Americans across metro Detroit cheer:
Allie Oop Oop, oop oop
I wonder what her opinion of female genital mutilation and honor killings is?
I’m sure she thinks it should be covered by the new health care bill.
Apparently she has relatives in Hezbollah. Peachy.
AINO. There’s a reason it’s called Dearbornistan.
This is a pet peeve of mine…Don’t get you panties in a bunch she is there to be looked at not listened too. She is a freakin’ model not a spokesperson for anything…why are you amplifying her comments when no one else is listening..?
The previous Miss USA pageants were about beauty and the questions were usually pablum served up to create the illusion of brains and beauty. The last couple of years, and that includes this year, have a politically correct motivation and I no longer believe that the questions are just picked at random. First, Prejean was knocked out by a biased question which would have required Prejean to reject her moral values – and her values were known in advance. Now, Miss Oklahoma is knocked out by a similar hard ball question – and Oklahoma is developing an illegal alien bill that is even tougher than Arizona.
Can anyone compare the tough illegal immigration question to the silly insurance question? Trump likes the PC garbage because it creates controversy – and he has shown his love of controversy with his Victoria Secret approach to pre-pageant advertising. I am guessing that next years winner will be a lesbian.
I also wonder if Miss Oklahoma will dig into this as, once again, there is an appearance of deliberate fraud.
Wonder how the Arab-American community, wink, wink, liked her lingerie photos? Or the endorsement of birth control, or the bikini? Give me a break.
Exactly. On this one point, I give her a total pass. To most people a given drug is either controlled or it ain’t; BC is still controlled even if it isn’t listed under the Controlled Substances Act.
For crying out loud she’s Miss America. Why would anyone expect Miss America to have read and understood a law like the “Controlled Substances Act”? It isn’t as though she’s in government and has an obligation to read and understand a law before she comments about it in public or votes on it. You know, like democrats in Washington …. oh wait….
This I think is a better link to explain about what “controlled substance” is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controlled_Substances_Act
Maybe one of these is a cute cousin of hers back in Afghanistan?
Forgot to ask, does anyone even watch this show and event anymore?
Not a single person I know has since the Perez Hilton and Carrie Prejean incident and until they take politics out of the event I don’t see any hope for their future.
Well said. I think we all understand that intelligence isn’t the focus of the pageant.
I’d like to see Trump in a speedo with his flab…..ewww, never mind.
You know whose take I’d like on this? Fox News has a woman, who’s originally from the Middle East, I forget her name, but they bring her on occasionally on Middle East matters. She’s fricking gorgeous, she’s got a great accent, and she’s rabidly anti-Muslim. I hope FNC gets her on to talk about this woman.
Please remember how the “religion of peace” conducts war.
It’s OK to lie, cheat, steal…whatever it takes to further the cause against the “infidels.” Thats the problem, you CANNOT TRUST any muslim anywhere, anytime. She is a prop.
She is physically beautiful I certainly concur with that! I don’t care what her motive is for entering this contest because I don’t trust her. She also did not deserve to win. It’s all about the Donald………..
Here legally? Check.
(I doubt the Donald would present us with an illegal Miss USA — this year.)
Really, the AINO tag should be used on an individual basis, rather than a broad brush (pardon the pun) for all those who are of a hyphenated American label.
Can you prove that this young lady is an AINO?
Exactly.
Are you serious?
A Christian?
The socialist-controlled media would likely not widely broadcast that any Lebanese/Syrians/Arabs could possibly be Christians.
And, I strongly doubt that a big deal would ever be made about a Christian Lebanese gal’s winning the pageant.
Oh, please…this is merely yet one more instance of taqiyya (muslim deception).
If that is actually her own opinion, she likely runs a very serious risk of being being killed for it.
There is also the possibility that the jihadists allow statements like this to go uncriticized in order to confuse, fool, and mislead their targets of jihad….
Given your post, I am concerned that there is a chance here that their taqqiya was successful.
Wow!!
And have I got a deal for you on a bridge….
BTW, was this the pageant that Rush was a judge on? Or was that the Miss America event?
Agreed.
Somebody needs to ask her if she supports Hezbollah, some of her family and friends do. Can’t give the link, website is apparently verboten here, but there is information available that indicates that.
Miss USA approves of wiping Israel off the map? Eliminating Jews everywhere?
At least she shaved her armpits. I guess that shows some progress.
I try to like Donald Trump but it’s getting harder. It’s the sleaze factor.
Ditto. Never forget!
The Miss USA Pagent? It’s as relevant as last year’s bird’s nest. Why should anyone care who won, what happened, etc. etc. etc. etc.?
It must be a mighty slow news day for this to be something to post and comment on.
Has anyone ever seen Donald Trump & Jerry Springer together?
I don’t really care if she’s a muslim as long as she integrates with US culture. She was my favorite of the top 15 until she opened her mouth. Every time she said something she sounded more and more stupid. Her comments about both Ford and birth control were incoherent. The only thing missing was, “like such as, the Iraq.” I thought for sure she’d be 4th runner up. As soon as she won, I said to my wife, “this thing is rigged.” In contrast, my view of Ms. Virginia improved the more she spoke.
Also, I didn’t quite understand the purpose of the new category of lingerie / stripper photography. I have feeling that in 15 years one of the judging categories will be “onscreen performance in an adult film.”
Rush did the Miss America pageant. That is a competition for scholarships and looks and talent.
This pageant is just for looks.
I only started watching after a friend told me that Miss Maine was in the top 10.
We haven’t had anyone in the top 20 since the 1970′s.
I said that was my FIRST thought. After all, the majority of Lebanese in the US are Christian.
You’re correct, though, that the media would likely not make a deal about a Miss USA winner of Lebanese descent if she was a Maronite Christian.
The Lebanese Americans (Americans of Lebanese descent) are proud of the success of Lebanese Americans, and will be quick to tell you about Danny Thomas, Casey Kasem, Jamie Farr, Tony Shaloub, and so on.
But the real issue isn’t that she’s Lebanese, it is that she is a moslem.
The UK Daily Mail chose an interesting adjacent story to accompany this.
Actually she’s Miss USA. Trump would love you confusing the two. Trump’s pageant is 10 times better and it’s mostly because of Trump.
I watch it every time I can. It reminds me of how great it is to be American and how great this country is. We have so many beautiful women it is an embarrassment of riches.
to set the record straight, Prejean LOST to Miss NC who WON! Prejean didn’t lose because of her answer. Miss Oklahoma didn’t lose because of her answer either. The audience applauded her answer about states rights and against profiling. Oklahoma did a great job.
The question section isn’t concerned about what they answer, but how they handle themselves.
The trip was manufactured. If she didn’t win, she was hoping it would be played over and over again so she’d get more modeling contracts.
I don’t understand why people dislike her for her religion. She’s wrong, but guess what? SO ARE CATHOLICS (in my opinion). All Muslims aren’t fanatics. You aren’t going to get anywhere telling people they are terrible because of their family’s religion.
I met one other girl who called herself ‘Palestinian’ and she worked at a gym and was one of the hottest women I’ve seen. She was friendly and funny and nice.
Here’s how to win a cultural war against them. Tell them that it is great that they love God. But that God loves them too. God sent Jesus to die for their sins so that they wouldn’t be burdened by it. They need to learn who the Jesus of the Bible is and not the Jesus of the Koran.
We need to use their love of God as a positive and teach them who God is.
Instead, we have the pope defending his church (I can’t remember the last time he talked about Jesus. . . it’s always either about him or the Church). And the pope also said that Islam was a wonderful religion.
Why the guy who is supposed to be the mouthpiece for Jesus on the planet says ‘Islam is a wonderful religion’ is beyond me. I don’t see why Catholics let that go, but hey, they are told he’s infallible (not in the Bible anywhere, but that’s what they are told).
Muslim women are hot! They cover them up because the men can’t control themselves because of their beauty. Muslim women are wrong about religion, but that is just an opportunity to share the Gospel with them. Introduce them to God.
Agreed.
I had a number of schoolmates who were of Lebanese heritage.
Agree again.
They’re being “wrong” frequently involves something going, BOOM
Don’t hold back…tell us how you really feel about muslim women.
I think I lost count after the third time you told us.
I feel you are in for a disappointment: muslim women are not allowed to marry non-muslim men; and as for muslim women (aka property) getting up close and personal when not married…well, does “honor” killing ring any bells?
I feel you don’t appreciate how strong my faith in Jesus Christ is. I don’t believe in Him because some priest who molested me told me who He was. I don’t believe in Him because some ‘evangelical’ con artist entertained me with his ‘tongue speaking’. I don’t believe in Him because of anything but the Grace of God and the Holy Spirit that has shown me who Jesus is.
People who love Jesus want EVERYONE to know Jesus. I’m convinced that trough the power of the Truth of the Gospel, the entire world will one day confess with their tongue and bow on knee to recognize that Jesus Christ is THE Lord and Savior.
I’d just as soon celebrate Christ’s victory over the cross for me with a hot formerly Muslim woman than anyone.
You see a Muslim woman who can’t date a Christian man (something I lament every day). I see a lost sinner who needs and wants Christ. . . and I’ll be glad to tell her about the joy and victory of Christ without telling her that she’s a terrorist for believing what she was told concerning Islam.
BTW, Julie Hayek, Miss USA 1983 was also of Lebanese descent.
Ta-da!
Not a moslem, though.
Oh, and ThackerAgency, ethnically, I will agree that the women of that geographic region are, broadly, fetching. But within the religious grouping of moslem? Maybe, maybe not. The moslem religion covers a lot of territory.
(Moslem, not muslim, is deliberate.)
Re first paragraph:
OK.
I don’t recall any statements being made about why you believe,…but OK.
Re second paragraph:
Believe me, I do not disagree.
Re third paragraph:
Your hot
with whom you would be celebrating, would have a target on her back (operative words “formerly muslim”, as also would you.
Re fourth paragraph:
No one said that that gal is a terrorist.
She doesn’t have to be one in order to be part of the deception of jihad.
Telling her about the joy of Christ is terrific; but right now I’m more concerned about keeping the folks – including the kids – of New York City, Iowa, New Hampshire, Florida, Arizona, Boston, Philadelphia, California, Minnesota, etc, etc, protected against the jihadi savages.
How would I answer to God if I let innocents here in America be slaughtered?
“If we could just hold hands, no one could pick up a gun.”
(blink, blink, smile, turn)
What happen to I want to see world peace???? Why are politics involved in the pageants which take less than 1 brain cell to enter!
Good one, RWM!
Of course!
That’s all that needs to be done!
What have we been thinking up to now?
Hey, how could Joni Mitchell, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, be wrong?:
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky,
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
Lebanon tends to be socially looser than other Arab countries. That is one reason our diplomacy tries to keep it out of Syrian clutches. YouTube videos confirm that most Lebanese women do not wear burqas and tend to be voluptuous and proud of it. They also know Jack Shi’ite.
Granite:
My dad heard a pageant finalist say something VERY similar in the early ’80s. It’s been a running joke in our family ever since.
Check out TMZ. She won a pole-dancing contest in 2007. Disgusting photo, and probably not safe for work.
Rogue, I look forward to your posts. I always get a great laugh from your witty sense of humor!
I think David Horowitz should have been able to ask her a question. wink wink
Oh and same question for Barry except we know he would lie.
I can’t find the swimsuit photo.
In 2007, Miss USA 2010 won Mojo in the Morning’s “Stripper 101″ event — not that there’s anything wrong with that. Now she’ll have to grovel at Trump’s feet to keep her crown. Trump attended a recent Playboy Mansion party (naked painted ladies and all) but this will be an issue for him.
I take back my earlier statement about her not being an American. Dancing like a skank at a bar? She’s totally a young American woman.
LOL!
Papers, please. um… nevermind.
BTW, did she spend her entire school time in the Catholic school, or did she spend some time in the Michigan public school system?
This contest is about who is the hottest. I think Rima Fakih is the hottest and could care less what their answers to any questions were. I have no idea why they pretend that what comes out of their mouth matters at all. It is a BEAUTY contest. They serve no purpose other than to be gawked at.
