Yep, it’s time again for my upside-down elephant again. Just when CT Democrat Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s Vietnam fables should be front and center political news, here’s a creepy Republican to steal the ignominious spotlight:
Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder was announcing his resignation Tuesday after admitting to an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office.
Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he “sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff.”
“I wish I could have been a better example,” he was to say. “In this poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process. … We are a committed family but the error is mine and I should bear the responsibility. Not only am I thankful for a loving family but for a loving God.”
Ick. Seriously, can these losers stop yammering about God when they’re caught?
And what is up with inserting the “part-time” qualifier about his staff mistress? And “mutual relationship?”
Hard to believe there’s any sincere remorse there when he’s engaging in Clintonesque parsing.
That is what happens to a Republican’s brain and soul after eight terms in office. Beltway-itis corrupts.
While we’re talking about the GOP Crapweasel Club, someone please tell me why John Ensign is still in office — and why no in the GOP leadership will force his corrupt backside out of office?
I’ll repeat what I said back in July 2009 about the mess:
The GOP can’t attack the Democrat culture of corruption…until it cleans its own house first.
The John Ensign mess keeps getting worse.
Stubborn, selfish, prevaricating Mark Sanford keeps embarrassing himself and conservatism.
And there’s another sex scandal on C Street.
We’ve got major battles on the Hill and fundamental principles to defend.
Show the corrupted, Beltway-infected, power-drunk Republicans the door.
And get back to work.
