The Left, bogus war stories, and the NYTimes

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 18, 2010 10:41 AM

Well, it’s good to see the New York Times finally paying attention to Democrats who tell bogus war stories:

At a ceremony honoring veterans and senior citizens who sent presents to soldiers overseas, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut rose and spoke of an earlier time in his life.

“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”

There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.

The deferments allowed Mr. Blumenthal to complete his studies at Harvard; pursue a graduate fellowship in England; serve as a special assistant to The Washington Post’s publisher, Katharine Graham; and ultimately take a job in the Nixon White House.

Here’s video of Blumenthal saying he served in Vietnam.

And here’s video of him saying he didn’t:

What a total crapweasel.

As this blog has long reported, the Left has had repeated issues with telling the truth about military service.

Winter Soldier Syndrome is a chronic disease among many Democrats and their fakers.

It is worth noting that the NYTimes spilled barrels of ink attacking the Swift Boat Veterans for pointedly questioning some of John Kerry’s Vietnam war claims.

Savor the irony when bogus war story-teller Richard Blumenthal, with nothing but desperate spin for a defense, starts accusing the Swift Boat Veteran-bashing Times of… “Swift-boating.”

…”…since the days that I served in Vietnam,”….

Blumenthal didn’t say since the days that he served during (the) Vietnam (War); he said since the days that he served in Vietnam.

Too bad about that video. No doubt he hates it when that happens. People with cameras and such, what a terrible state of affairs.

Maybe there is some other meaning to the words ‘when I was in Vietnam’. Like, maybe it is all in how you define the word ‘in’. Does it mean ‘in my mind’?

I recieved a draft deferment to go to college and medical school. But in college we had to take ROTC as LSU was a land grant school. Part way through, a general told me he desired me to be an officer. I almost fainted, at that time the life expectancy for a 2nd lieutanent was about 8 minutes in country. Fortunately I went on the medical school, there I was assigned a draft designation of 1-AM
this was different from the usual 1-A in that we were expected to go into the sservice no matter what, at LSU they
were taking us immdeiately to Vietnam with 2 weeks training and the life expectancy for a doctor was a little better. Richard Nixon then came in and put a stop to the stupidity. He is thus the greatest person in this world. Vietnam was a huge mistake and the soldiers that served there deserve the highest appreciation of our country. But we must never allow anything like that to ever occur again. We are currently trying our best in the “war on terror”. Make it a war on Islam and get it done with the fewest number of Americans killed.

You’re all so mean – Nixon sent him on a secret mission during Christmas, 1968 along with Jawn Kerry…

I can think of a few missions these two could go on. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is exactly what we should expect from Connecticut- Doddgers all.

Just how did America lose the once great state of Connecticut? Connecticut was so very central in supplying food to the Continental Army several times at critical moments of the Revolution. Now it is but one more New England whore house-Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is a male castrate Lady.

Actually, I was born with a minor defect. When the doctor told me I was going to be okay he also said it was enough to keep me out of the draft. I was kinda disappointed too. That was in 1969. But I suppose I had something else planned for me.

Blumenthal told so many fibs and misleading statements at the press conference that the media should dig in, if they are smart enough to. First, Blumenthal said he “received no special treatment in the military”. He didn’t need to! He received all the special treatment in getting five deferments. Two of them were for occupational deferments. These deferments were not supposed to be for people having a cozy job with the Washington Post or a minor job in the White House. So somebody has to ask Blumenthal: Do you think that a working class kid from New Haven could get the same deferments that a Harvard preppie got? And then Blumenthal said he found the Marines through a “check in the phone book”. That is pure crap. The reserve unit he served in was a rich kids unit that had no chance of going overseas. The average guy would not know about it. And then Blumenthal says he volunteered for the military. He didn’t it! When all his other options ran out, he quickly used his Harvard ties to get into a cushy reserve unit. Finally, he says he has no idea how Slate and the Hartford Courant and ten other articles called him a “VietNam veteran”. Who else would tell these media outlets? And how many times did You Mr. Blumenthal, call the editor and ask for a correction? Blumenthal has his own full time press advisor. He reads everything about himself.

Yep Sea Dog, and he should be arrested and jailed under the Stolen Valor Act of 2006. However, the law is being challenged for “free speech”..it seems that some lawyer decided that it was…

“Such expression remains within the presumptive protection afforded pure speech by the First Amendment,” the Institute’s attorney wrote. “As such, the Stolen Valor Act is an unconstitutional restraint on the freedom of speech.”

Disgusting and another spit in the face for veterans of that time.
