Open-borders quote of the morning; Update: Calderon bashes Arizona

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 19, 2010 10:42 AM

From President Obama to Mexican President Felipe Calderon at this morning’s joint press conference:

“We are defined not by our borders, but by our bonds.”

The reconquista crowd gives two thumbs up.

Right on cue, with the State Department “human rights” zealots cheering on the sidelines, no doubt:

Mexican President Felipe Calderon seized the opportunity to blast Arizona’s controversial immigration law on Wednesday after President Obama welcomed him to the White House.

Arizona’s law, which takes effect in July, will call for state and local police to determine if people are in the country illegally.

At the start of Wednesday’s state visit to Washington, Calderon said the law discriminated against Mexicans and called for the two countries to work together to develop an immigration policy that did not force people to live in the shadows “with such laws as the Arizona law, which is forcing our people to face discrimination.”

Calderon, whose remarks were translated from Spanish, said “We can do so if we create a safer border — a border that will unite us instead of dividing us.

It would seem that he doesn’t understand (or wants to “fundamentally transform”) the simple concept that the purpose of a border is to divide.

The property line between your lot and your neighbors’ lots is there for a reason, and its purpose is to divide.

To suggest that your property line or our national border should “unite us instead of dividing us” is to suggest that there should be no borders at all.

That represents a desire to do away with both private property and national sovereignty. That’s called Communism.

And of course, that is exactly what Calderon and the rest of the Democratic Socialist Communists want!

From the LA Times Metro Desk, dated last night (5/18/10):

“A convicted felon who was deported to Mexico in 2007 has been arrested for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl in Santa Ana, police said Tuesday night.

Roberto Jacobo Reyes, 47, was being held without bail on suspicion of assaulting the girl after he entered her home through a window, the Santa Ana Police Department said.

Reyes was linked to the Feb. 11 attack by DNA evidence found on the window and on the girl, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

During questioning, Reyes allegedly told detectives that he had assaulted at least four other females, ages 11 to 22, while they slept, according to Bertagna.

“His M.O. was to break into unsecured windows or unsecured doors,” Bertagna said of the crimes, which began in late 2009.

Reyes was deported after serving three years of a five-year prison sentence for burglary, according to Bertagna.

Police have turned over their evidence to the Orange County district attorney.”

I wonder if Calderon can give him a lift home? It will save LA cab fare…

Please pardon my posting this a second time, but it is as relevant to this thread as it is to the “blame America first” thread.

    Pop Quiz:
Which 2008 Presidential candidate said the following?

…as conservatives, we believe that it is right to protect the sovereignty of the United States and to make sure that we never, ever, for any circumstance, under any purpose, ever yield one ounce of our sovereignty over to some international tribunal. (Cheers, applause.)

That’s why we have to fight — (continued applause) — that’s why we need to fight against the Law of the Sea Treaty and make sure that it gets a good burial at sea. That’s why we should say no to Kyoto, because it’s not giving over — (applause) — our sovereignty. And it’s why any time some United States judge who has taken an oath to the Constitution of the United States should invoke some international law as a basis upon which to make a decision, he should be summarily impeached for having done so. (Cheers, applause.)

Let me also say that it is right for our country, in believing in our sovereignty, to demand that we have something that every nation on earth accepts and, in fact, assumes would be a part of its nation’s essentials — a secure border. How we can ever believe that we can be a sovereign nation or a free nation without securing our borders is beyond me.

    Aztlan.

This US President is an idiot that simply does not understand the Mexican Presidents goal.

No, Obama fully understands and agrees with this goal.

It’s all part of the [Communist] Party Program:

Mexican Americans together with African Americans are the two largest nationally oppressed peoples in the U.S., with Mexican Americans being one of the fastest growing sections of the population. The Mexican American population is concentrated in the U.S. Southwest, land that was originally stolen from Mexico, with U.S. domination being imposed on the many Native American and Mexican American people living in those areas.

Among the problems faced by Mexican Americans are language discrimination on the job and in schools, cultural suppression, anti-immigrant laws and abuses, lack of full political representation, and inferior job and social conditions in every area of life, in addition to police brutality and hate crimes.

Mexican Americans have played an important in U.S. history, from resistance to U.S. imperialist annexation to struggles for full civil rights for immigrants, from resistance to cultural domination to the struggle for a holiday honoring Caesar Chavez and his ground-breaking example in organizing farmworkers, and from community battles for bilingual education to struggles for voting rights and full participation in the electoral process, among many others.

Mexican Americans mainly vote Democratic and have a major and growing impact on national elections. They have emerged as perhaps the most decisive group of voters in California and the southwestern states. Nationally, there are thousands of Mexican Americans holding public office, most elected as Democrats. The Mexican American people are overwhelmingly working-class and are a major force in the trade union movement nationally. There are also many large national, regional, and local mass organizations among the Mexican American people that have a big impact on the U.S. political scene, especially with the increase in the Mexican and Mexican American population all over the country.

And speaking of Caesar Chavez, did you know that “Yes, We Can!” originated with him?

“Yes, We Can!” –> “¡Sí se puede!” –> Alinsky Radicals –> Lucifer

This arrogant attitude should be given a loud response by our other border states, more laws similar to Arizona’s.

And, I’m wondering if Obama is willing to send a bill to Mexico for services rendered to all of those who crossed our borders illegally. The free hospitalization, education, food stamps, rent free housing, unemployment checks, and anything else they’ve finagled out of our state governments.

    Dude, get a clue already.

Ok, let’s explore your contention just a little bit in the interest of intellectual curiosity… Sure, we have SOOOO much in common, like…

    1. Language – not really.

    2. Politics/Political Development – nope, not really. A history of patron/client based processes, power via class/lineage, small cadre of highly influential and wealthy individuals and a history or corruption and violence.
We have our problems, but at least we haven’t fallen to the level of our Mexican neighbors…yet.

    3. Economy – Again, not all that much.
Government owned/controlled key industries (PEMEX), effective monopolies in some sectors (telecom, utilities, etc), lack of effective taxation system, etc. vs. large private enterprises, a large and established middle class, etc. … in short, not really

    4. Education – US has a [I know, I know] public primary school system and allows private schools to those that want to go that route. US also has a good system of public and private colleges and universities. Mexico…’not so much.’

    5. Religion – Well, some limited commonality, but overall US society is much more (here’s THAT word again…) DIVERSE than Mexican society.

    6. And then we could talk about specific areas of law such as land ownership for non-citizens, lobbying/intrusion into the domestic affairs of the other, and even things like immigration policy and actively aiding and abetting known criminal activities.

    7. Oh, yeah, there’s that CULTURE thing too.

Mr. President, we have SOOOO much in common. /sarc

Mr. Calderon, worry about fixing your own country before you come here and tell us how to deal with our problems.

Obama is giving a presser as I write on C-Span. The panderfest continues…

Who was the only Presidential candidate who pledged to build the fences on both the Northern and Southern borders by July 1, 2010?

A nice thought, but Calderon has no jobs for them, and Mexico’s economy is on the verge of collapse. Poverty level is 47%. He has no incentive whatsoever to bring people back unless the US pays him to do so. It seems our deep pocket govmint will give them money regardless.

You also have to wonder how serious Calderon really is about drug traffic. He talks a tough game, but if the $80 billion Mexican-US drug estimates are accurate, that’s almost 10% of their GDP. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

The Hispanics are saying that this is actually their land and they are taking it back. They need to look at history. Originally the land was occupied by the “Old Ones”, these became the Pueblos then the Mayans took the Southern aspect and influenced the North, in short order, the Aztecs took it from the Mayans. Aztecs likely occupied the area (not the North) for about 150 years before the Spanish came. The Spanish occupied the land and killed off most everyone for about 300 years (they were the longest of the owners). The Spanish were chased out by some bandits who were independent for about two generations when the Texans decided to take the area for their own (so that they could keep slaves which was against Mexican law). Shortly after that we had the Mexican-American war. Really a power grab by the US, but thats life. We have had the area for 150 years, only the Spanish had in longer. The fact is that it belongs to who is most powerful. Now California is full of girlie men and the Hispanics could easily take that, but I want to see them go after Texas. Of course, The One will get in the way of any expression of our defense of ourselves.

Why does the President rate more security than the average citizen? If he can demand papers and documentation of those around him, then we can as well.
