Costa Mesa, CA: A “rule of law” community

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 20, 2010 10:19 AM

Bravo:

Striking back at so-called sanctuary cities, the Costa Mesa City Council declared itself a “Rule of Law” city, setting itself up as a lightning rod in the latest wave of debate over immigration reform, it was reported today.

The vote came last night at the urging of Mayor Allan Mansoor, who was condemned by the Orange County branch of the Anti-Defamation League in April when he called for city efforts to help enforce immigration laws.

In 2005, Mansoor proposed training Costa Mesa police to enforce federal immigration laws, and that touched off a debate that culminated in a First Amendment lawsuit. Costa Mesa prevailed in the case when a jury rejected the ACLU-backed lawsuit in December.

It would be very cool if there was a list of businesses in Costa Mesa that had some sort of online retail site that we could support by making some purchases and being vocal about that support.

I realize there’s no assurance that a particular proprietor supports this action by the City Council there, but it doesn’t matter.

It would be nice to see a news report that told of online business there booming right after this action.

This is what the liberals do not, and cannot, understand. The AZ law just tells it’s officers that they must enforce already existing federal law. Costa Mesa is just doing more of the same.

So what the liberals are fuming about is how dare anyone enforce federal law! Unless it’s a law allowing abortion.

You’re 1/3 of the way there.

A second third is to raise the punishment for employers of illegals to the point where the penalties would put them out of business.

The final third would be to put apprehended illegals into chain-gangs, building a wall (not a fence) that, when completed, will be so massive that it can be seen from orbit, will be manned by 20,000 border patrol agents so there are no unobserved segments, will go down into the ground at least 100 feet to prevent tunneling, and which will thereby persuade Paco, Pablo Juan and Manuel that if they spend 50% of the time and energy it’d take to get past it to better their situation right where they are, they could make decent lives for themselves in Mexico.

Costa Mesa was known in the early days as Goat Hill. There is a Tavern on the 55 freeway through Costa Mesa into Newport Beach called Goat Hill Tavern.

The reason it is called Goat Hill is that when famous Hollywood actors like John Wayne left Los Angeles and moved to less populous coastal areas to the south, an affluent area developed known as Newport Beach. The affluent people there, including many celebrities needed domestic help such as gardeners and maids. The bluff above Newport Beach, which is Costa Mesa (bluff on the coast) had many Mexican families there that had lived there for generations. They tended goats for a living and were farmers. While the men tended goats, the women began to take jobs as maids for the wealthy in Newport Beach. The wealthy called the area on the bluff Goat Hill.

The legacy of Goat Hill is that there are generations of Mexican families living there. It became a magnet for Mexicans moving across the border 2 hours away looking for work.

Santa Ana is just a few miles up the road and became an even larger hub of Mexican immigrants. These people worked in the strawberry fields and orange groves as migrant workers. Many just stayed.

Santa Ana developed major gang problems. The gangs began to move into Costa Mesa but the city put a quick stop to that with aggressive anti gang enforcement. That worked for them. They have never been anti immigrant because the community is based on immigrants, but are certainly anti criminal. That includes the breaking of any laws, including immigration laws. They have an INS officer in their jail to facilitate deportation of criminals. All of these efforts have been successful in keepng the city safe from the gang terror that still plagues neighboring Santa Ana. Obey the law is all they are saying. Whats wrong with that?

At least, thats my two cents worth.

Citizens of other countries illegally in our country have no right to demand anything from our government. They most certainly have the right to petition the governments of their home countries for change if they are unhappy with their home country. If they want to be Americans, we have a path to citizenship, more generous than any other nation, and it starts in their home country.

We need to insist on the equal protection, application and enforcement of the law or devolve into anarchy. Our Republic only functions if everyone follows the same rules. We should not change the laws to accomodate those breaking them.

If America annouces to the world “We can’t stop you, so come on in” with another amnesty, the deluge will be overwhelming. If 3,000 a day didn’t get your attention, then wait until it’s 10,000 a day. We cannot sustain this influx and survive as a nation. We must speak up and speak to each other about this and not let false claims of racism or bigotry be used to intimidate us into silent assent. America is not Congress’ to give away. America belongs to We the People. Speak to your neighbors, speak to your coworkers, but please speak up to your Congressmen and Senators. It’s O.K. for us to enforce our laws, no really, it is.

Bravo, Mayor Allan Mansoor and the Costa Mesa City Council!

In related news our buffoon President Blue Lips w/ears is in BIG Trouble with the ventriloquist union: he failed to register his dummy, El Presidente Cartoon Character Calderone el Toto, with the union before appearing on television. El Presidente Cartoon Character Calderone el Toto is a scab dummy!
