Louisana Gov. Jindal blasts Obama inaction, moves on sand booms
This is leadership on the front lines, not just on the sidelines. Louisiana GOP Gov. Bobby Jindal has been working non-stop over the past month to protect his state from the BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill — and from the bureaucratic delays in the Obama administration.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said the state will not waiting for federal approval to begin building sand barriers to protect the coastline from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Oil has pushed at least 12 miles into Louisiana’s marshes, with two major pelican rookeries awash in crude.
Gov. Jindal was critical of the amount of boom his state received to ward off the oil seeping toward the coastline. But his major gripe comes at the expense of the Army Corps of Engineers, who have yet to give the go-ahead for the building of sand booms to protect the Louisiana wetlands. He used photographic evidence of oil breaking through hard booms, soft booms and another layer of protection, before being finally being corralled by a sand boom built by the National Guard.
“It is so much better for us. We don’t want oil on one inch of Louisiana’s coastline, but we’d much rather fight this oil off of a hard coast, off of an island, off of an island, off of a sandy beach on our coastal islands, rather than having to fight it inside in these wetlands,” Gov. Jindal said, making the case for sand booms.
The governor said he has been forced to protect Louisiana without the approval of the Army Corps of Engineers, which is weighing the ecological impact of the construction of more sand booms.
“We are not waiting for them. We are going to build it,” Jindal said.
At least one federal official is taking some responsibility:
The oil mass continues moving west, and as the toxic sludge begins to make landfall in Terrebonne, Capt. Edwin Stanton, who heads up the Coast Guard’s response, is taking blame.
“The governor is right. It’s too slow, and if it’s anybody’s fault, it’s mine, for not pushing (BP) hard enough perhaps,” Stanton said.“We did have a problem with getting boom down here to begin with, but there seems to be boom that is in the staging areas that needs to be put out.”
Then, in an exchange with a reporter, he went further.
Stanton: “It’s my job to direct this response in Louisiana.”
Reporter: “Why didn’t you do it?”
Stanton: “Well, the why — is that really important?”
Reporter: “Yes sir, we live here.”
Stanton: “Well, I guess I’m just slow and dumb.”
It’s a start.

Obama has sent the Justice Department to look at the oil spill. Inquiring minds want to know: Are they going there to uncover things…or cover things up?

The world markets are spiraling out of control with this Pocket Lenin at the controls. An incompetent and dangerous child with no leadership skills.
If we can’t get him impeached for criminal malfeasance (there’s enough evidence for a grand jury), we should at least be able to get a special early election to vote the fools out before thay can do any more damage to the world…. oh well I can dream…
Congress’ response to the spill? QUADRUPLING the oil tax! Yeah that’s the ticket. Now go treat yourselves to a 3-martini lunch you dolts. Call some hookers to party with you too. Have a grand time. Get Nero to bring his fiddle.
Sharp point! I guess asking them to preempt disasters by enforcing laws and regulations that are already on the books, is also totally out of the question.
I’m still waiting for them to tell us how the rig ‘exploded’.
A crisis manufactured by the useful idiots called ‘environmentalists’?
Just spit-ballin’ here, but considering oil companies have been drilling in the gulf for 40-50 years or longer, don’t you think at some point in that time, they could have designed and built some sort of giant “oil plug” device and kept it moored somewhere in the region. Don’t you think they could have just had this giant cap thingie on hand, just in case, so they could tow it out and cap the leak?
Maybe some petroleum engineer can explain why this could not have been accomplished practically.

I spent a few years riding rigs in TX, IL, CA (never offshore). I too am curious as to the failure to test their blowout preventer, but I also know that this particular accident occured on an unusually deep exploratory well, that hit a major gas pocket. So, I suspect that this is simply a useful (never waste a crisis) accident for OBambi & crew.

Is not the topic of this article how Jindal is now “fed up” and taking things into his own hands? Because that’s the article that I read.
And if it is, my question still stands: why didn’t he do the exact same thing two weeks ago? What, he expected something out of the OBAMA administration? Who are we kidding?

Does anyone find it a “little strange” all the incredible crap that has befallen this great country since shortly before the election? I’m just saying…
I understand Obozo allowing BP to try to fix the leak, they do have knowledge and expertise in oil rigs where this administration has expertise in “rent a mobs”. BUT why the hell isn’t our gubmint working on scooping the oil from the surface of the sea, or burning it from the surface while it is in the gulf. Why wait until it hits the shoreline before anyone notices it. At sea, it floats making it possible to skim or light on fire with accellerants such as BP gasoline. Forget dispersants which make it sink, fly tanker planes spraying gas or alcohol and light it up. The same in the marshes, spray it with accellerants and light it up. Yes you lose some marsh, but not all of it. Sometimes you have to sacrifice the few to save the many.
